Just finished dinner at El Patron, nice surprise in a town that suffers terribly from mediocre restaurants with 4 star reviews. Service was attentive and pleasant, decor was old school small town Mexican. Chips and salsa were hot and fresh, carnitas were very well seasoned and crispy, shredded beef taco was awesome. Rice and beans are homemade and taste that way. I will be back in the summertime hope it's not too crowded. Prices are great $3.25 for a Corona rocks.

Usually I am leery of Mexican restaurants in small towns. This place has great salsa and the entree which was shrimp enchiladas was spot on. The price was just right for what you receive. Will definitely stop in again when passing through Pinetop.

We ordered the ceviche tostada and chicken burrito, both had good flavor. Service was good and fast. The chips and salsa were very delicious. Will definitely visit again when we are in the area.

A solid one star, only because it's the lowest possible rating. Maybe I was spoiled in the Salinas, CA, area, where places like Trejos in Watsonville or Carnitas Michoacan in Gilroy serve food that often sells out. At any rate I wouldn't bother to rate this place but really want to spare others the ordeal.

You can always tell how good a Mexican restaurant is by the chips and salsa - theirs is AWESOME. Tried 3 different Mexican restaurants here in Pinetop and this was our FAVORITE. Very authentic. This hidden gem isn't going to stay hidden for long

Finally!! Delicious Mexican food in Pinetop!! I can't say enough great things about this place. Food is fantastic, service is on point and the atmosphere tops it all off. We sat on the patio, and I literally felt like I was in a cute Mexican restaurant in Mexico!! Can't wait to come back.

We had the chicken and steak fajitas. They were great with well done vegetables. Margaritas had a good kick and beer was cold. Servers we all friendly. We would definitely recommend El Patron and would go back next time we're in pinetop.

We decided to try the new place in Pinetop "El Patron". We loved it! The margarita was perfect. We had tacos and they were exceptional. I would recommend this place.

What an amazing dinner. Authentic Mexican cuisine. My husband and I both had fajitas. So. Good. And the margaritas were awesome! Great service. Food came out quickly. Great decor. Clean. We left in a food coma. (Ok, really just my hubby did). We got churros to go, but haven't been able to eat them yet. A must try if you're in the area!

I sat outside, where the seating is an eclectic mixture of chairs and tables. I had the pork carnitas with rice and beans. The carnitas was terrific - very savory and tender. The rice and beans were the usual and didn't stand out. I also had the sopapilla with what I thought was honey. Unfortunately it turned out to be "honey flavored syrup", which is to say - high fructose corn syrup with a little bit of honey. It was the only disappointment of the meal. The service was good. I would definitely go back.

Wow! What a great place! My boys and I ate lunch here today and had a great experience. Amazingly friendly and fast service. The food was really great too! We had the beef fajitas and pork carnitas. Both were delicious, but the carnitas were excellent! As other reviewers mentioned, you will want to try these!

Busy summer Fridays! Arrived at ~6pm and the parking lot was FULL. Managed to find parking as other guests were leaving. Seated immediately. Restaurant had live band playing '60s pop music. Lively environment. Service was friendly, but seemingly rushed. Dinner arrived in good time, considering those busy they were. Dinner was hot & freshly prepared. I will dine here again...

What a great place to eat and the waiter was great. My sister and I just ordered the sampler app and it was more than enough food for out lunch. When he asked what we would like to drink I ask if they had coke and he explained they only had pepsi so I just ordered water a few minutes later he came back with a coke in a bottle. I thought that was great, I have never had a restaurant get me a coke when their products are pepsi. We will be going back

We are happy to have a new Mexican restaurant close to the country club areas. It's small and cozy and looks like it was formerly a house. They have an outdoor patio which is always a plus in my book during the summer months. They have a full bar and good food. The margaritas are really good (strong!) and huge! The salsa and chips are hot and fresh and service is fast and attentive. Love it!

Mexican Restaurants saturate the Pinetop-Lakeside area and all too often fall short of my expectations. El Patron was a pleasant surprise! Cute patio and interior are welcoming. The service was phenomenal, with our server, (who also served as our Bartender, and I suspect may be the owner or Manager) and bus boys going all out to make sure our basket was full of chips and our TALL Margaritas replenished. I had the Carnitas plate-more than enough food-and my hubby had the Chicken Flautas -clearly homemade-in a flour tortilla-and while they initially looked rather plain-they were creamy and full of lots of white meat chicken. We can't wait for our next cocktail and meal there!

I read the reviews on this resturant most had them at 4 and 5 stars. I have no idea how, that is remotely, possible. First we were only 1 of 2 tables. Our chips were hard and not fresh at all. Second of all I was 2 moments delayed to my table of three and was never asked if I wanted a drink. When placing our order we mentioned several times we wanted "no beans" yet we recived beans. The food itself was lacking flavor. The fajatas trio was missing the chorizo and cheese and the steak was significanly overcooked!! The salsa was watery and lacking veggies other than onion. The cheese crisp was over cooked so much the flour tortilla looked like it was wheat when it was flour and full of grease. I will say it was a clean and quaint place but not somewhere we will ever revisit

What a great surprise. We normally do not review on yelp. We walked in just to look at the menu and we were offered beans and chips to try. Their great service and food made us stay. Truly a gem in Pinetop. Great seafood entrées. The beans are delightful. The service is outstanding. An entire red snapper grilled to perfection. Fantastic rice with shrimp and beef fajitas. The food was so good that we forgot to take a picture before eating it.

A happy table of six! It isn't always easy to please a large group, but El Patron's definitely "hit the spot" with everyone. The service was consistent -- nothing over the top, but we got out food quickly without any mistakes. The food itself was authentic and appeared to be pretty fresh. The only complaint was that the carnitas was a little dry.

Yummy! Writing this review as I end my meal. I'm in Pinetop for work and looked on yelp for a good dinner spot. I hit the jackpot! Ordered the pork carnitas and they are some of the best I've had - the tenderness, the flavor - just delicious. Also enjoyed the chips and salsa, the latter which has a nice kick to it. And the bonus? Large pours of wine. :) Would come back here in a heart beat. Nice work El Patron.

We love this place. The pork carnitas are a work of art. Fernando treats us Gringos like family. Here's a tip. Order the pork carnitas, since it's a generous portion, eat half. Safe the rest of the pork to mix with your eggs in the morning. Mmm mmmm mmmmmm!

Best Mexican food on the mountain! Seriously! No joke. Great salsa! Perfect refried beans! Tacos are great. Mole is good too.

Looking for good Mexican food in the mountains? Forget the other places. El Patron is where you need to go. Awesome carnitas, tasty carne asada, fresh salsa and guacamole. Oh, and the margaritas? Killer!!!

Its a brand new place when we vaca at Pinetop. They dont even have a "real" signage when we were there. I am no expert of Mexican food but my friend took a bite of their beans and said...this is homemade and my Fajita showed up, boy that was lots of (good) food. Its has good solid menu and I'm hoping they can stay open and doing well so we can go back again!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
