Amazing find on a recent drive around AZ. We happened upon the Randall House on a drive. We stopped in for lunch with or puppy. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the cool air and ice breeze. For being I a small town the menu has enough to accommodate any taste. The homemade buttermilk herb dressing was yummy and the fresh lemonade was very refreshing.

I stopped by Randall House on a motorcycle ride. One of the members called ahead and told them we were coming, so they had tables all ready for us - that was really nice. It took a while for the food, because they were totally swamped with customers. I thought the endless refills of coffee and tea were very nice and the breakfast was very good. I will definitely stop by again on my next ride through Pine.

We were staying in Pine, AZ for the weekend and decided to get breakfast here. The first table we were brought to was literally infested with ants. They were all over the chairs and table, literally thousands. The waitress put the menus on the table and began to walk away before we even sat down. She noticed that we weren't sitting and came back to the table, saw the ants and tried to brush the ones on the table away with the menus. We just blankly stared at her. She just stared back at us and said nothing. Finally, I asked if we could sit at a different table, she replied "oh..OK..umm". and I pointed to a couple other empty tables, with fewer ants. It took the waitress about 20 minutes to take our order and then almost another half hour to get our food. They bring you toast-without butter or jelly, so you have to ask for it. It was pretty warm out so I finished my tiny jug of water fairly quickly and the waitress came by to deliver our food and didn't say anything about my empty glass, before she walked away I asked for more, she said OK. 15 minutes go by and I asked a different waitress for more water, she said OK. another 15 minutes nothing, both of us were out of water at this point and I have been out for almost 45 minutes. Finally I walk inside to ask for more water because I stopped seeing the waitresses. All 3 employees were staring at the register poking it, and said nothing to me. I stood in front of them for almost 5 minutes without them even acknowledging me being there, and finally said excuse me, and after saying it 4 times they asked what I wanted. I asked if I could have some water, they told me to go sit down and they would bring it...RUDE. 2 of these 3 employees were the ones I had asked for water from before. I sat down and FINALLY after 10 more minutes someone brought me some freakin water! I literally was timing this because it was so outrageous. Also,It was hard to have a conversation because we were right off the street and people were flying by with very loud motorcycles and AT V's. This is not their fault, but something to keep in mind. Oh, we found out why the ants were everywhere. The waitresses take the food and drink leftovers and DUMP THEM IN THE BUSHES! RIGHT NEXT TO WHERE PEOPLE SIT! Overall, their food was mediocre, I've had better elsewhere for much less money. If you go there, don't sit outside unless you want ants crawling all over and biting you. The service is extremely poor, and to top it off the bathroom doesn't lock. A man walked into the bathroom while I was washing my hands and began to unzip his pants..AWKWARD!

This place might be the worst service I have ever experienced. Don't waste your money here. They are rude. RUDE. Be sure to read all the reviews here, long waits and rude servers are the main complaint. Just take your business elsewhere.

I wish there was a negative star because one star is too much for this place. Our third trip to the Randall house on a Sunday morning was an awful experience. From our first two visits we knew that service was bit slow but this time we waited over 55 minutes and still no food....we ordered only eggs and toast and had been served a cup of coffee...no water. when we inquired after 55 minutes how much longer it would take we were told that our food was just put on the grill! Another customer walked by us and said she had waited over an hour to get her food. We were so frustrated and hungry at this point we just got up and left. As we were getting into our car a blonde hair woman .....who we had not seen at all during our 55 minutes of sitting at the table....came yelling after us, thinking that perhaps she was coming to apologize but instead she was screaming that we needed to pay for the bill. We pulled away as she was still yelling, causing a scene in front of the restaurant. We were Astonished at such unprofessional behavior. We had only two cups of black coffee and returned a few minutes later after getting cash at the local store with $5, handing it to the blonde woman who was now behind the register behind the register, she didn't say a word. After reading reviews on yelp and urbanspoon we realized the slow and rude service is a common occurrence at the randall house. Needless to say this will be for us our last visit to the randall house and we will be sure to let everyone we know of our awful experience.

The Randall House is a great location, in a historic old home with a lot of charm. When the weather is right you can sit outside or inside. It is open for breakfast and lunch. They make great specialty pancakes and gourmet burgers, everything I have had was delicious. Severs sometimes are local students, not bad not the best. If it is a festival day it can be super busy, the normal atmosphere is casual/comfortable. I think it is the best place to eat in Pine, a real treat.

Looked so cute on the outside, had to stop in and try it during a Festival weekend. Loved it! Reminded us of a Rim version of the Farm at South Mountain....historic home turned into great breakfast/lunch spot. It is "slow food" and not McDonalds so you should not be in a hurry. We recommend the grilled chess or tuna salad....soups were awesome. Will be back!

Love this place! Spur of the moment stop to eat kind of place! We parked at the post office and walked (sorry if we weren't suppose to!). The house definitely had charm since it was built in the 1880's. The workers are really nice and friendly. All the food here looked/was delicious (I went during breakfast). The hot chocolate is nothing short of amazing and I got the French toast with turkey sausage, but I was eyeing my best friend's dish that she let me try and the whole time I was regretting my order because her's was so darn good! It was salmon, scrambled eggs and potato! Yummy! Love Randall and his house :)

We attended the Pine strawberry festival and the weather/drive/day/kids were wonderful after getting there we walked around the festival and there was the usual food but was there a lot of crap selling that people made in their homes real junk. After walking around the kids were hungry and we settled on the Randall House its a great place too bad its staffed by bad cooks and even worse wait staff that will not return to your table for the entire duration of your meal. It also took an hour for the food to come out because they were busy, well you should have thought ahead for that hired more staff for the two days that this event was going on. This was Saturday I'm glad we didn't visit on Sunday. The food was cold when it came to the table they said we are out of ice tea and walked away not asking if we would like something else. I believe the wait staff were hired for being pretty and not on the customer service skills. Would I ever eat there again, not under current ownership or staff. I could have been a great meal if only they tried with the food and service. Avoid this place.

Great food, friendly service. You will wait for your food but as others have said it is worth the wait as they make it from scratch so it is not fast food and shouldn't be.

Great omelet. Service was faster, lots of servers around to make sure we had everything we needed.

Like everyone...love the charm and for us it is a nice change from the Early Bird up the road every once in awhile. We have a cabin strawberry so not many food options. I agree the service is just okay....never make me feel very welcome but we think the food is really good and their coffee is the best around (even better than what we can find in Payson). My biggest complaint is really the price. We leave there with two Americanos and two breakfasts and it is almost $50 including tip (exaggerating....it's probably $46 so I rounded up). That's a bit for Sunday morning breakfast so save it as a special treat.

The Randall House is an absolutely charming little place that, clearly due to that charm, continues to draw people despite its staff. Despite one strange experience there after another, we too return, always hoping that maybe this time the service will have improved, the food will be better. Indeed, the food was better the last time we visited: the ingredients notably fresh and flavors pleasing (at least as to the entrees; the desserts are consistently bland). Having visited on several occasions, I can confidently suggest you choose a classic, predictable dish from the menu; the more adventurous plates are not worth the risk. Most notably, unfortunately, is the service (or lack thereof): it is so scathingly unwelcoming that even if the food were to fall directly from heaven and into the Randall House kitchen, it would not go down well by the time it was served to you. Those that have generously granted this establishment four or even five stars admonish those of us who have been less than pleased, saying that this is due to a need for "fast food" and lack of patience, that this is a small town that operates at a slow pace, and that real food takes time to make. The pace, in my experience, has never been the problem; we have taken day trips to Pine specifically for the unhurried atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. And regardless, in my experience, the wait for a table or for our food at the Randall House has not been especially long or out of the ordinary. Nonetheless, we generally leave shaking our heads and asking ourselves: what makes inhospitable people go into the hospitality industry? If only the staff would go out and find work that truly makes them happy and leave this little gem in the hands of people who actually want to welcome and serve; the world (and little Pine, Arizona) would be a better place.

7/5/15 They said the kitchen was backed up but it actually took 65 minutes for a salad and a sandwich. If I had know that it was that backed up I would have driven to Payson and still got my food sooner. They brought the wrong flavor tea, messed up my skimpy curry chicken salad order and the waitress never checked back with us before the food came to give us an update. Then it took so long for them to come back for payment I had to take it inside myself. The turkey reuben was good but they also ran out of soup before noon. Thank goodness the weather at the outside table was nice. Charming but sad.

Food is consistently delicious. The service is always good even when they are slammed busy. Sit outside and enjoy the view! I recommend the Yoga Scramble with an Iced Americano! Reading the other reviews complaining about slow service or bad food are ridiculous. The food is always good and it's an INCREDIBLY SMALL TOWN. Busy weekends you should expect a little wait. You're not eating at the Four Seasons people. Humble yourself and enjoy the unique beauty that this town and restaurant has to offer.

I have been coming here since 2000. I am a part time resident but I make it a point to stop by and support this restaurant. She makes delicious and healthy selections for the health conscious eaters; even vegetarian dishes are available. The home made desserts and pastries are not too sweet and I could not resist ordering her coconut cream pie for takeout so I can eat it at home while enjoying the natural beauty that surrounds this town. If you are from the valley and are used to fast service and SAD (Standard American Diet) food, you will not like this place as you can read from the other bad reviews. I am fine with the long wait, good things take awhile to prepare. Maybe if less of you haters show up I can get my food quicker, LOL. Just kidding, peace and harmony always!!!

This is a great little place. I have yet to have a bad meal from here. My own and only qualm is that the prices are a little steep. If two people are going to eat here then you are almost always going to spend 30$. But you can tell they use really nice quality ingredients and everything always tastes fresh. The deserts are a little hit and miss in my opinion, some of them just aren't as decadent as I would like them to be, a little on the bland side, like the kind of deserts my diabetic grandmother would have at her house. The brownies are really good. The have fresh brewed tea that is always very nice and good coffee. I'd eat here more if they weren't so expensive. The service CAN be slow but that is only because this place gets PACKED. If you see cars lined up and down the street and the back lot is full, chances are you will be waiting awhile. We try to go when it looks like it isn't too busy. Overall they have amazing food and a great atmosphere if you have the bucks to blow.

A must stop for breakfast or lunch when in town! Sit in a room in an old house and have a great breakfast. I don't know how these people on here had bad food? I have been here many times and its always good. Eggs have always been done as I wanted. Eggs Benedict was perfect. Wonderful Hollandaise sauce. I agree the pace in this place is slow. It is suppose to be that way! Enjoy your visit..If you want a quick bite...go somewhere else. If you want to enjoy yourself and the atmosphere...this is the place!

I hate to speak badly about a local business, having a mountain cabin in Pine. But this place has horrible service and mediocre food. We'd always wanted to try this place and finally got in on a wait on a Saturday morning. We waited for over an hour for the food, it came out cold, never got drink refills and they did bring us the incorrect check when it was time to pay. Save your money and go elsewhere, this place just isn't worth it. Sadly, I too would have given less than one star if possible just based on the service. I could make an omelet at home, and of course dining out is about the service and quality of food.

Im not going to lie and say Ive never had a less than amazing experience here, but fact is 99% of the time it has been WONDERFUL. This place brings me to a place of old-timey elegance and calm. The world just seems to turn slower while you sit in what was once someone's living room, reading a newspaper, sipping your iced tea from a mason jar. The food here is equally at a slow pace. Slow doesn't mean bad, people...it means FLAVOR! You may only be ordering a grilled tuna salad sandwich, but these people put more care into it than would your grandmother. Yes, the food takes a little while to get to the table, but for me, I just get so caught up in the atmosphere and enjoying the slow pace with the people Im conversing with at the moment. This place feels like Pine to me. No trip longer than 2 days goes by without a visit to the Randall House. This place does both breakfast and Lunch, but Lunch is where its at for me. Both menus are great, dont get me wrong...it just feels a bit more lunchy too me, and I guess the feeling of being able to sit back and relax and take my time while out for lunch really adds to the feeling for me that Im on vacation. Gotta love that feeling...

This is not the place to go if you are looking for in and out. But if you have time to relax and enjoy the ambiance of one of the historic local buildings, the Randall House has more charm than you can soak in. The service is slow not by plan, but because of their lean staff and taking time to make everything from scratch! It's best in Spring and summer when you can sit outside. The breakfast omelets are divine- I love the french toast too. And for lunch, I aim for the fish tacos unless there is a special that steals my stomach away. Take the time and enjoy an original and unique place (I live nearby and eat breakfast every Saturday I am town)

I wish that there was a negative stars option. one star is far too much credit. Being that I work in the food/ service industry I am EXTREMELY lenient when it comes to slow service, and food preparation time, that being said.. We came in on a Sunday around 1015 am.. we had a semi large party ( 5 ) and the larger tables were occupied by 2 tops ( should have seen this as strike one) so we had to wait a few minutes for a table , most of the tables were finished eating and just hanging out chatting on this nice sunday day ..so the few minute wait was no big deal. when seated we waited for 5 or so minutes before the busser finally came by to take our drink order. and said the server would be right there.. now I know things move a little slower in small towns.. but we waited 10 more minutes for that server to show up.. at that point our drinks were already empty. She took our order. pretty straight forward stuff here.. 2 omelets, scrambled eggs, and a veggie burger. nothing which takes more than 10 minutes ( and thats being gratious) to prepare. And didnt ask about our drinks, I thought to myself.. well, hopefully the busser will come w/ refills. NEVER HAPPENED. we waited, and waited, and waited for our food to come.. the party next to us, came, sat, ordered, ate, and finished their meal in this time. like I said.. im lenient, I gave them time.. and time.. and even hoped for the server to come by and atleast check on us, give us an update on what was going on.. AT THE VERY LEAST RE FILL OUR WATERS! and nothing.. when it had taken a full hour. I went inside to check on things myself and ask the server what happened.. She went in asked the cook ( who i later found out was the manager) what the status was.. the cook dropped a ticket on the range to which there were 4 tickets hanging ( that is NOT a sign of a busy kitchen) , and sloppily put it back in the rack.. in a different spot to where it had fell ( un organized kitchen and ticket placements could explain our wait) the cook says.. " yeah yeah, they are next. and hastily returns to moving things around ( there wasnt anything even cooking on said range) the server comes over and says that we were indeed up next, and I asked her if this was a normal occurrence at this place, she answered . " no, your ticket just got put up in the wrong place" to which I replied.. ok, will you have your manager come speak to me when she has a minute. 10 more minutes go by, to which, STILL no refills had been made. and the manager comes out. .. I have NEVER been treated so rudely by someone, EVER, especially not in a restaurant. and even more-so not by a manager!!! I asked her if there was a reason for our food taking so long and to why we dont have refills, She says " were busy" I responded that I understand the busy excuse, but over an hour for eggs is a little obsessive, where she quickly responded with " well I can go make your food, or we can sit and talk about how busy it is" ARE YOU $*(*$@# kidding me?! its called the service industry for a reason. at this point this place was such a joke, and became even more comical when said manager went inside to grab our check for our drinks and brought the WRONG ONE!! haha we paid for our drinks and left. PRONTO a few tips for the manager. the " its busy" excuse is YOUR failure. You as the manager have failed to properly staff your restaurant for the day. Thats not the customers fault. EVER. you could benefit from some communication lessons.. and then pass those on to your staff. In our case, if we were told " hey were a little understaffed and a bit busy back there please be understanding that your food is going to take a few more minutes than usual today" we would have been completely fine, even w/ the lack of service. on top of communication issues.. you could definitely use some organizational skills. Dropping tickets in the kitchen, putting them back in a different order, running the wrong tickets to tables, etc all EASY problems to fix. and helps in expediting food orders. I absolutely hate chain restaurants and will give every benefit of the doubt to a local eatery, but in this situation, Id recommend going to dennys in Payson above this place.( but there are other fine local restaurants to try first) this dining experience was so terrible for me that id rather eat the envelopes at the post office next door ! and if this review even keeps even ONE customer from coming here.. mission accomplished.

When we first "discovered" this place a few years ago, we thought we had fallen upon something special and unique. Following subsequent visits to RH we have become increasingly disappointed and have not been back for some time now. RH baked goods are quite good, if you arrive in time to buy some. The owner/baker is aloof and distant and not the least bit interested in accomodating visitors' requests. When I first tasted her coconut cream pie, I thought it was the best ever. We even drove up there just to purchase a full pie after that. We have also dined there several times for lunch and breakfast and even stayed a couple of nights in the cottage adjacent to the restaurant which was nice. The wait service during all of our dining experiences has been terrible. Long delays between ordering and getting our meals. The food quality is sketchy - sometimes excellent, other times mediocre - including cold hot dishes. It is not the friendliest of places so if that matters to you, RH is NOT a place you'll want to visit. We thought we would become loyal fans of RH and we tried but our effort was met with lack of interest and poor service. The owner is not a good candidate for operating a restaurant, especially one in a small town close to other small towns where word spreads quickly.
