Tony’s Italian Delicatessen

This place is authentic and delicious. When you walk in you feel like you stepped into a grocery store in Italy. The aroma of cheese, olives, and cured meats greet your nose and make your tummy rumble. The Italian gelato is superb and tastes fresh. My new favorite flavor is spumoni. Try this place out. You will not be disappointed with their sandwiches!
"OLD SCHOOL" shouldn't mean just old. Have a look at the grocery items: pickles, peppers, any grocery item in liquid: SO OLD THE FLUID IS GRAY! So how would "old groceries" impact my sandwich? I don't know, but I'm not gonna try... Tony's been at this corner forever, just not with my business.
This is a small Italian grocery store, not a restaurant so some of the survey questions don't apply such as "waiter service" which is really "counter service" in this case. The Pros: I stopped in for a sub sandwich. I ordered the hot pastrami sub, with extra meat. The guy behind the counter asked if I wanted it hot...."yes." The sandwich was large, so full of meat it was difficult to eat. The meat was really tender and juicy...the way you want it. The Cons: After I ordered, he disappeared into the back, returned and asked if I wanted mustard. Yes, but I didn't realize that there weren't any condiments or condiment packages out, you had to trust that he would put on the amount you wanted in the back. The sandwich was "hot" but not because it was "toasty hot" it was because it was microwaved. The roll was so soggy that it wasn't easy to keep the sandwich together. Recommendation to owner: get a commercial toaster oven or alert your customers that "hot sandwich" means "microwaved." This sandwich would have be extraordinarily good had I been able to add my own condiments and had it been heated in a toaster oven.

I'm sorry, but the fact is that the smell of sewer permeating the dining area is just to much to say we had a pleasant first experience here. The pizza may be good but the smell put a damper of the excellent pizza & wings we ordered. The wings were your standard hot wing and the meat was a bit tough; and I'm not sure why that is. I guess I'd order them again and see if it was just that particular batch. I would order to-go till they have that whole hellishous fragrance problem under control. The young lady taking our order must have taken offense when asked about it and replied with slight attitude, I can overlook that slip since she must hear it a million times a day, and the fact she herself has to work in it. But a simple "the owner is in the process of fixing it, and this is not normally the case"; goes a long way. In her defense, she warmed up once the subject was dropped. We'll be back and try again in a few weeks perhaps. Our order consisted of a small double pepperoni pizza, a medium Barro's special, 24-wings, and a few beers. Both pizza's had a wonderful crust and plenty of toppings. I don't know how a feel about the Pizza Hut like diced onions and I'd frankly rather they'd been slices, but I guess different can be good sometimes, and that's minor. I look forward to trying some of the other pizza combinations once a more appetizing scent exists. They would be probably earn 4 solid stars at that point in my opinion.
This is my favorite delivery pizza! Every pizza has been a success!
Yummy Barro's goodness as always. Great Barro's price (check out online for more discounts) Staff has personality, always a plus.

Another Lunch Dive near work . . . and again . . . pleasently surprized. Located in a non-descript old strip center located behind a seven-eleven. Had the Gyro Pita Sandwich with Fries and a Drink . . . the Gyro was tasty, but could have used a little more meat and tomatoes . . . the Fries were somewhere between a regular sized fry and a steak fry. Very hot and crispy, just the way I like my Fries. Lots of the lunch crowd was having the pizza, and the smell was . . . well lets just say . . . if I wasn't already full, or was waiting to order . . . it would have been pizza for me also . . . NEXT TIME. And yes . . . This place is definately on my return list.
Some people might be scared of the surrounding business or the looks but this place is great for a quick lunch. I review things for what they are not comparing to other restaurants that are in different prices ranges and experiences. I work nearby and walked over for a slice and salad. It was quick, crispy with some old fashioned over burns like I want it. It's clean and the clientele were all normal people just like me. The owner seemed to know people by name and by eating here I'm supporting the local economy and a small family owned business. Very affordable combos starting at around $5.
This place has yummy pizza and salads! Haven't tried the subs but they look delish! You will not be disappointed :) Cheesy hot pizza by the slice made just for you! Friendly staff :)

OMG this is my new favorite place to pick up dinner to go. The dinners, pizza and sub's are amazing. Great customer service. Everyone is friendly. As soon as I walk in the door I get this feeling of happiness and start smiling. I love that the counter employees say Hi with a big smile, then you hear a Hi for the guys cooking. Go check it out and ENJOY!
We live around the corner and come here for pizza and beer couple times a month. this one is a little family owned one with the same people always working which is nice. The pizza is always delicious, fresh, and crispy! The booths and chairs are outdated but other than that it's cute on the inside.
Conveniently located, good food good prices friendly staff what more could one ask for

A little late in writing a review of this place after having attended the event organized by Chrissy P. The location was nice for the Happy Hour we all attended because it was a short drive from work. Parking was adequate as well. Everyone was out on the cool patio enjoying drinks that they have a couple bucks off of at this time. They had Peroni on tap which was a plus. The pizza I had was only so-so. I love and know pizza and have had some fabulous pizza in my day. This one, not so much. The potential is there, but something was missing. Not sure if it needed to be cooked longer or what, but it was a little soggy. The mushrooms were fresh which was nice, as opposed to canned. The only other thing I had was the bread and pesto dip. I should have and could have eaten this all night! The bread was warm and crusty on the outside and soft inside. The "Green Goo", which I called it all night, was awesome! I would like to go back and try some different dishes to get a better sense of the food. Very cool patio with a neat sand fire pit. Perfect for the nights we are all enjoying right now. 3 stars for now...
The staff was great and the atmosphere is awesome. There's a great variety of menu items and on my visit it was pretty busy but the food came fast after I ordered it. Definitely worth passing by if you're in the area. It's perfect for a date.
I had such a great time at Il Posto! We came here for dinner. The weather was nice so we sat on the patio. I love the ambience of their outdoor space. It's like you're at a cafe in Little Italy. They start you off with warm crusty bread and served with the most delicious dipping sauce. It was olive oil with pesto and garlic. So good! For appetizers we ordered calamari and the seafood fra diavolo. If you can handle a little heat I highly recommend the seafood fra diavolo. It's calamari and shrimp in a spicy marinara sauce. It's served with grilled bread for dipping. It's out of this world! For my main dish I had the cheese manicotti. It was good, but I could barely touch it because it was so full from the appetizers. I did take it home and I ate it for lunch the next day. They were very generous on the cheese. That's awesome because I really love cheese! My husband ordered the chicken marsala. I didn't try it all, but I snuck in a taste of the mushroom sauce. Mmm! Our server was so attentive the entire night. We were there with our Aunt and Uncle and between the four of us we devoured 3 baskets of their crusty bread. (I told you it's good.). I loved how the servers were so willing to bring out more for us. Excellent customer service. Generous food portions. Flavorful comfort food. Il Posto has it all.

Love this place! Simple and solid pies! Get the best yogurt next door after at Zoyo! :)
Similar to Sauce pizza. Pretty damn good, especially the new chicken pizza (no olives of course)
I hate giving poor reviews. Hate it, but I must warn others. We tried this place on a whim. We should have done more research before going in. The tables are dirty and the lack of attention to details like the Parmesan cheese containers on every table being empty should have warned us off, but... like many explorers before us, we forged ahead. The pizza was bland, greasy, and undercooked. The salad was a mix of very old lettuce served in a plastic container. As the only people in the place, we could hear the two staff members talking about the lack of lettuce and other ingredients. ( why let us order something when all the ingredients are not in house?! ) Perhaps the botox place nearby will take the space over.

Food - 5.0 Service - 7.0 Management - 0.0 A big disappointment. I brought my wife and kids here knowing I had a Groupon for $40. It's Mother's Day. We hadn't eaten here before, so a Groupon is a great incentive to try something new. When we arrived it was less than half full at around 6pm. Atmosphere was ordinary, but it appeared that they were professional. Cloth napkins and table clothes and well dressed staff. We ordered our food, which included wine, and rang up at tab just over $100. The food was nothing to write home to mom about, but it wasn't terrible. The quality didn't match the prices, however we knew we had our Groupon, so it made it all palatable. That is until we tried to pay and explained we had a Groupon, but I let him know I would still be tipping on the pre-Groupon total. He frowned and said that they don't take Groupon's on holidays. Having used many Groupons prior at other places, I always check the Fine Print before going. The only restriction it showed was that it couldn't be used during happy hour or in conjunction with other coupons. I showed the waiter this and he still gave me the heisman pose. I asked to speak to the manager, thinking this must be a mistake, and to my great surprise, the manager held his ground stating this was Groupon's policy in the Fine Print. I showed him that it said nothing about "holidays," and he too stood his ground. I decided to take the high ground and save myself and my family further embarrassment and paid the tab (still tipped the waiter well since it wasn't his fault, per se), and here I write. Long story short, what a hustle and great disappointment. Not a great way to get a return customer who racks up $100 tabs for pasta. I've never seen a manager who would choose not only a battle that was wrong, but knowing that we would never return. I do not suggest supporting this establishment. This is my first YELP writeup.
If you want to sit at the bar and have some drinks while watching live music, this place will not disappoint. It's cute, quaint and their bar service is decent. Only at the bar though! I've had dinner here (or tried to), a handful of times now in the bar area, and the one thing that is consistent is the slow service. The most recent time was a week or ten days ago - 10/18/14. We stopped in at Arrivederci and the bar side of the restaurant was quiet. There was one four-top, one two-top and two separate individual people at the bar. We just wanted to have a glass of wine and decide on where to head for dinner. The bartender seemed to be buried, although we didn't understand why considering there were only 8 or so people in the entire bar area. It was ALL he could do to take our drink order. We laughed about it when he arrived breathless at our table to see what we wanted. The four-top was right next to us and they had food delivered and were complaining about how long it took. Also, it took them three requests for water to actually get the water. Well, it smelled GOOD and we were hungry so we figured we weren't in a hurry, why not eat here? However, the bartender never came back. Once he asked us from across the bar if we wanted more wine then brought it over, set the wine down and went on his way, didn't ask us if we wanted menus or an appetizer or anything. We laughed it off and gave up, paid the tab by bringing our credit card to the bar and then went on our way.
We decided to have dinner on a Friday evening. It was pretty busy but then again it was Friday evening and coupled with the GroupOn fervor it does brings people in. They do have a Happy Hour from 5 to 7 and live music certain days of the week, but there is separate section devoted to the Happy Hour crowd. We ordered the Melenzana Arrivederci (Rolled Eggplant filled with spinach & four cheese, served with tomato sauce and pasta). The eggplant was ok but lacked flavor and the pasta was very inferior with the tomato sauce that was meh.... Also at $16, I would expect alot better. We also ordered the Penne Alla Pepe e Nero, which was Penne in a lemon black pepper cream sauce with sausage, chicken and eggplant. Pretty big portion but at $18 it was a fair price. However, the sauce lacked a fresh lemon flavor and seemed more like a mustard in it for some reason or might have been overpowered with the pepper. I understand all the pasta and sauce is made in house but the quality seemed like out of a box. For dessert we ordered the cheese cake which was nothing great to write about either. Giving it two starts because the service was good and so was our server, otherwise it deserves only a single star. Even with a GroupOn, there are many good choices around for good Italian Food and will not return.

VEGETARIAN DISHES are tasty! Cheese ravioli, manicotti, and cheese pizza are all excellent dishes. They have the best pizza. Belfiore is also a bakery so the pizza dough is perfection! Beverly is the sweetest waitress ever! She makes you feel like family. Tiramisu is a tasty dessert.
Friendly staff. Yummy pizza and calzones. Spurge on the chicken sorrento ... Chicken, ham, eggplant, cheese. Yum!
Unfortunately, not what I expected. I went with 2 other friends a little more than an hour before they close(9pm). We walked in and the first lady looked at my like I was from another planet and I awkwardly said, umm we'd like to eat dinner? She then told the chef that it's going to be a long night..right in front of me! If your open for another hour, there should be no problem serving a customer. The décor is extremely outdated and the vibe is not comfortable at all. The portions are huge but food is bland. The carbanara had way to much sauce, no vegetables and very little bacon. The lasagna was ok, mine is better. The vodka sauce however was very delicious. The food was extremely overpriced I couldn't believe it! I really wanted to like this place since it's a family owned restaurant but I will not be back.

Food was good. We order Italian subs and fries. Ingredients were fresh! The person working was very friendly, BUT it absolutely took forever to get our food. After a long morning of hiking we may have been a little famished, so I tried not to exaggerate, but after waiting over 40 minutes for a sandwich we were justified in feeling a bit frustrated. We were the only people there and there were three people working. Overall I saw one or two people stopping for pizza pick-up so maybe that's the way to go?
Not really that impressed with this place. I ordered a large pizza and some cherry chipotle BBQ wings. The wings were disappointing - the sauce, which I was hoping would at least be interesting, was pretty bland, and the meat didn't have much flavor. They forgot to cut the pizza, which was kind of annoying. I tried a few toppings, half sausage and roasted red peppers, and half ham and olives. The sausage was pretty much just sliced hot dogs, and the rest of the toppings were not noteworthy. The rest of the pizza was equally not noteworthy. Overall, just overpriced and not that great.
Bottom line: best pizza at the best price. My boyfriend and I stop in and get their lunch special (2 pieces of pizza w/ a drink for $3.99). I like that the slices for the lunch special are larger than the slices you get if you just order a whole pizza from them (although their whole pizzas are a great deal too). So basically you're getting 4 slices when you get 2 for the lunch special. All for $8 for the two of us. As far as dining-in, I don't usually like to. The place is run-down and not so cute. But I love supporting local businesses and this is a great one. Beats Domino's or the recently stingy Papa John's any day.

Since I moved to Phoenix I'd been looking for a good little italian place with some authenticity, like a place I loved in my hometown. Nicks totally fits the bill, the food is good and the staff is friendly. One of my favorite foods is Caprese, and I especially love finding places that make it well, which Nick's does. The Mozzarella en Carozza is very good too, though I'll admit it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I can't remark on the pasta because I don't eat pasta these days, but it looks and smells amazing. It is a little pricey for my tastes, but so was the place in my hometown, so no surprise there.
We frequently travel to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area and often find ourselves at Nick's to get some Italian food to take back to the hotel (it's only a short distance from where we stay). This particular Nick's is near the intersection of N Tatum and E Shea. It's on the small side and dimly lit, but provides a nice, intimate atmosphere. There is some bar seating, which is great if you're just looking to grab a couple drinks there and dinner to go. The food has been hit and miss for me. Their lasagna is fantastic, as are some of their other dishes. That said, the last time we went I was very disappointed with their calamari fettuccine (I got it with the white sauce). Given that the sauce was being paired with seafood, I expected a light, but flavorful sauce. Although light, this sauce was far from flavorful. It was essentially a bland, light cream sauce--no garlic, wine, or any other hint of flavor to be found. The calamari itself was tender enough, but overall, I was not very satisfied with the dish. The service can be hot and cold as well. A couple trips ago, we came in about half an hour before closing, and we were constantly reminded that the kitchen would be closing soon and we needed to hurry up and make up our minds. This past time, we sat at the bar and the bartender was extremely charming and attentive. It just depends on the day you catch them, I guess. We may stop into Nick's again in the future, but given our mix of experiences, we'll be trying out some new Italian places in the area to see if we can find a new regular place to grab dinner.
I work next door to Nicks and frequently get food at this location. Last night after paying and picking up my food I noticed that on my CC statement it had two charges for that evening. When I went next door to find out why the hostess told me that she had not charged me enough for my chicken breast and that her manager charged my CC after I had left and SIGNED only one slip. I was not called, she didn't walk next door to inform me and when I told her this was illegal she said she would speak to her manager. Very pissed off and never eating there again. I will contest the erroneous charge with Chase. You cannot run a persons CC just because you made a mistake with your food billing. It would have to be a signed slip and there was none. I will not recommend this place to anyone EVER again.
