Blue Coffee Pot

First time in, I had a great experience and the service was quick!
There aren't many options in Kayenta. This is a very basic, very low priced place that was clean and efficient. The menu has a few Navajo and Mexican options, but is basically just your usual diner fare. Chicken fried steak was excellent, but cold mashed potatoes, corned can and canned chicken rice soup could have stayed in the kitchen. Cash only and no alcohol. Go if you are hungry and broke.
This review is for breakfast. Fabulous. Blue corn pancakes are amazing - my son and I had them, and we know our way around pancakes! Locals joint - parking lot full, and very friendly and fast service.

Food is as expected, and staff do a good job. The place is a trip for the traveler to eat in because it's a big mix of National Park travelers, including all the Euros, and many of the local Navajo. Worlds collide. Has a nice display about the code talkers as well.
It seems odd that a Burger King would have an exhibit on the Navajo Code Talkers ('Windtalkers') until you learn that the family that owns the BK franchise are also proudly the family of one of the Navajo Code Talkers that came from Kayenta. There is a very interesting display with some history, amusing stories (Mrs Mike & the flags is worth a read) and memorabilia. It's just a wall in the BK but you can come in and check it out without needing to buy anything. Also in the car park is a small museum of 'cultural centre'. It's free to visit and also interesting with more on the Code Talkers as well as the general history of Kayenta and the Navajo Nation. There are some souvenirs for sale but you are under no pressure to buy. The displays inside BK and the small museum can fill an hour or so and give you both a leg stretch and some background before you head to Monument Valley or Canyon de Chelly. When you drive from or to Monument Valley, you'll pass through Kayenta and will see the giant Burger King sign like a giant beacon, well before you get there.
I'm not a BK fan, I associate it with airport food. However, this BK is worth stopping for. The Navajo Code Talker display, plus a display on weaving, are excellent. The Navajo music makes for a very nice atmosphere. Facility is very clean, service is friendly and efficient.

Like another patron, I rarely ever would think to review a McDonalds. This place deserves a special non-place among McDonalds. We waited over ten minutes to have someone take out order. While waiting for my food, I observed an employee order her food and then go get it. I get that employees get the privilage of not having to wait. After giving the food to her boyfriend, she walks to the back and grabs four mor burgers (emptying the tray of burgers) and walks back out to the boyfriend - giving them to him. Besides the possible theft, my concern was waiting even longer for my burger. Approximatel fifteen - twenty minutes after placing my order I finally was served.....ALMOST! Low and behold no double cheeseburger...I wait another five minutes while watching double cheeseburgers being placed in others bags. Not cool. There is a major need for improvement in it's cleanliness. I had stopped a couple of hours earlier in Cortez, CO at their MD's....quite a different experience there. Extremely efficient, clean and friendly. I had my iced coffee in less than two minutes - with an apology for my needing to wait. Corporate should take note and send their manager here for a few weeks. I have a feeling there would be a whole different set of employees within the time they could hire & train a new staff.
This has to be the slowest McDonalds on the planet!! Went through the drive through just to get drinks and it took 15 minutes with only 4 cars ahead of us... If your passing through Keyenta and that's all people do is pass through.. Then skip this place and head to Sonic
Stopped here for lunch on the way to Cortez. 20 minutes after eating, up came lunch along the side of the road. Then severe intestine.. uh....problems.....Made it to Cortez, sick all night.....Normally I have a cast iron stomach....but there was something wrong with this shit.
