We were looking for a more authentic Mexican restaurant near Sierra Vista and you can literally see the lights in Mexico from Ricardo's at night. Might as well have gone to Taco Bell. The service was slow and the food seemed microwaved. The authenticity was like that of a sinking Don Pablo's in upstate New York. At least we can say we tried it. We will not be going back.

The food and service was rather disappointing. We expected the food and service to be excellent. Our food was covered in cheese and when we told the waitress she gave us attitude. The only perks about this place are the ambiance and the portions.

The BEST Carne Asada Burrito anywhere!!! I this place. You gotta try it. My favorite Mexican food restaurant. Wish they were open for lunch as well as open in Sunday.

I go to Ricardos every time I visit Sierra Vista. If you want authentic Mexican food this is the place to go. Staff is very friendly and they're always on top of things. The only negative thing I have to say is when they run out of real tortillas they give you the store bought kind (yuck) but that has only happened once thankfully. Try the carne machaca and the beef tacos!

We've eaten from Ricardo's the last two weekends. Last weekend I ordered chili relleno with rice and beans. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL! Greasy and nasty and the seeds weren't cleaned from the chili. We thought we would give them an another chance. Last night I ordered A chicken topopo salad with strict instructions for NO GUACAMOLE since I am very allergic. We had this order as take out. When we got home, there was guacamole on both orders! It is a 30 minute drive to the restaurant..this is just unacceptable. We will never go there again.

I love the red chili (#4 combination plate), very authentic. My husband always gets the Thursday night special. It's our neighborhood-go-to- restaurant!

Have eaten there before for lunch. I give the food a C at best. I want say it is Taco Bell but nothing they do in food preparation makes it just the place to eat Mexican food. In Sierra Vista. It is just average. The low rating comes from the service. I went there for dinner on 2/7/2015. It took 30 minutes to get seated after the manager said it would be 15 minutes. Then once seated, it took another 15 minutes to get a waiter to the table. Then one hour after ordering our food, we still had not been served. The manager came to the table and said they were just extremely busy and our food would be ready in 5 minutes. We waited another 10 and just got up and left still without being served. The manager's attitude was "oh well, sorry." The food is not that good that I would wait that long again.

Ricardo's burned to the ground today in the Monument Fire. Firefighters had to abandon the scene due to fears of the propane tank exploding. Image above. Hurry back Ricardo's.

Good food nice atmosphere and great margaritas. Need I say more? Butterfly shrimp is worth a try and very good.

Tonight was our first time to eat at Ricardo's. The hostess was polite and the server was knowledgable and quick. My husband got the carnitas platter. The pork was seasoned perfectly. I got nachos off the appetizer menu. They have so much stuff that halfway through I had to start using a fork. This is a great thing. There's nothing worse than empty chips. We will be back often.

I love this place. The food, the people - this truly is the best place to eat in Sierra vista. And the margaritas are amazing!

The food and service is very good here. I enjoyed the shredded beef tacos with beans and rice. Hubby had their cheeses enchiladas and liked them very much.

FINALLY some good mexican food down here. Ricardos burned down in the summer of 2011, and this is its rebuilt version. The layout of the restaurant is really weird, and the waiting area is pretty small. The food, however, is really the best Mexican food you will find in sierra vista/hereford. I ordered a combo plate, and hubby got a steak and tacos. The chile relleno in my combo plate was one of the best I have ever eaten. light crispy batter, and delicious gooey cheese. Everything I ate I was happy with. my husbands steak was grilled to perfection and delicious. I also had a cadillac margarita, which was strong, just how I like them. My only real gripe was how long we waited for our food. It was a busy night, and apparently we had a large group ahead of us, but no one told us until we said something about the wait.

Staff is very nice, but the food, as yelp says, "methinks not". The enchilada's were dried out as was the Mexican sausage.

So most of you all know by now that Ricardo's burnt down in the 2010 Monument Fires and they have rebuilt and reopened. So like many people before and after us, we had to go and check it out. The experience was not the same. The new layout of the restaurant is very weird open and loud. The bar is way in the back and not visible from the front of the restaurant and is also very small. The staff seemed overworked and disorganized. We waited 30 minutes for a table and it was about 7:30-8:00pm. We had several servers come by and offer the same things. It was getting annoying. Our food took almost an hour to arrive. They kept bringing baskets of chips and salsa to make up for the timing of the entrees. Note they charge for the first basket of chips-so beware. Everything seemed dry and overcooked and not as tasty as I remember it. I told my husband that I'm in no hurry to return. Sorry Ricardo's; maybe it's the new wait staff or chefs that you had to hire, but for a family owned business who's been doing it for years, I would think it would be a no brainer to pick up where you left off.

So, Ricardo's has reopened. I decided to stop by tonight. I was a fan previously. I'm not liking the new layout. The dining room is a large open room and the tables don't have any privacy, unlike the old place. Maybe it was because the old place was always really dark and this new place isn't. Overall, the service was bad. The waiter was inattentive, forgetful and seemed to not know what he was doing. I had to ask for straws 3 times. When the waiter finally gave me straws, he only gave me 2, even though there were 3 people. I had to ask for chips 3 times before I received my basket of stale chips. The busboy refilled our drinks and he switched glasses on us, so I was drinking out of my son's and he was drinking out of mine. The food was slow coming out. Nobody enjoyed their food. My sirloin was bland and boring. And finally, you now have to stand in line to pay for your food at the front of the restaurant. What is this, Denny's? Lame.

My husband and I were huge fans of Ricardos and we used to love going there before the rebuild. The food is still great - much better than La Casita - but the atmosphere just isn't the same. It's too open and loud, and it truly sucks when you get a table in the middle of the dining area when it's busy. You have to yell at each to talk - it's just not as relaxing and enjoyable as it used to be.

This is an outstanding Mexican restaurant, and for the kind of restaurant it is, it is about as good as you are going to get. I took my wife here once when we were in Sierra Vista and looking for a good Mexican place. The locals all recommended it, and we now know why. The food is outstanding, the drinks are well mixed, the service is nice, and the atmosphere is one of a friendly local watering hole. It's out of the way, but quite worth the trip.

Ricardo's is a landmark of the SIerra Vista / Herford community. There food is amazing. They still have the same vibe just updated after they reopened. Great family run business. My favorite is the tacos and chili relleno. Not to mention the margaritas.

I decided to give Ricardo's another try. -Out of school early and stoked for some Mexican food, we walk in just minutes after 8pm on a Wednesday night. Half the chairs were put up on the tables and it looked like they were closing up. I asked if they were open and a couple of the servers yelled to each other "I'll get 'em", "No, I'll get 'em", "You sure?"...great. We had a seat, but as the only cutomers, felt rushed as the staff cleaned the restaurant. Our food was ready quickly and it was alright but our server might as well have stood by the table looking at his watch, waiting to close-he hovered feet from the table, waiting for us to finish. I'm pretty sure I'm done with this place. What a disappointment.

Pretty good food. I had the cheese enchiladas with extra chicken on top and two eggs over easy. Sounds weird right? Delicious. Service was friendly but the the food was slooooow. They kept the chips and salsa coming until the food came though. I'd go back.

Better than La Casita but not without its flaws. If you go while they're not so busy, you'll have a great experience. If you go while they're busy, you'll spend more time wondering where your waitress/food/drink/anything is. The kids running around getting chips and water are always on it but not the wait staff. Food wise, its one of my favorite places in town. The steaks and carne asada is always good and the drinks are fair. As long as you stay away on a Friday or Saturday night, you'll have a good time. (Review written during my 45 min plus wait for appetizers)

Ehh....kind of expensive for a child's handful of steak wrapped small tortilla . Carne Asada was okay, nothing super awesome. It was $10 and came with NO sides. What gives? Maybe I should have ordered the tacos. My friend ordered a margarita. She wasn't too impressed with it. The complimentary chips and salsa was strangely addictive though.

This place is a bit of a drive out of Sierra Vista but that is not necessarily a bad thing. A barber in town actually recommended Ricardo's and after doing my homework on Yelp, I decided the word of mouth reached a point where I had to give it a try. The salsa and chips aren't bad. The ingredients are fresh but there just wasn't enough heat in it for me. I plead guilty to enjoying spicy foods way beyond the level that normal people do so I can't really ding Ricardo's for this. My other standard for judging the quality of a Mexican place is how well they do rice and beans. You know...the basics that most places can't get right to save their souls. I guess its just too easy to scrape refried beans out of a can and then microwave them to serve alongside rice that has been sitting around all day. But this is where Ricardo's stands out. Their arroz y frijoles were off the chart! The rice was soft and flavorful and you could taste the loving care that went into the scratch made beans. There was probably lard in them but I could not care less. If that is what it takes to make them taste this good then lard me up! The #1 Combo platter had a great stuffed taco along with a chile relleno and an enchilada. All were good compared to local standards but nothing to scream about. All in all the taco was the star of the plate. I can't ever recall seeing one quite like that. And I certainly liked the $10 price tag. Its a lot of good food for the money. The bartender was terrific and very attentive without being overbearing. The only thing I didn't like is that the frozen margaritas come out of a machine. I am sure that helps out the staff on a busy night but those kinds of shortcuts will always steer me away from those items. I had a Dos Equis Amber in a super frosty mug instead and it was delicious.

Good tacos. The enchiladas had little flavor. Small bar with a limited beer selection and no draft beer at all. During busy periods expect to wait a while if paying with a credit card since it seems they only have one machine to process them.

Listen, I know the rebuilt. They went through a lot. I was never a real fan, but tried it again. I ordered a steak and potatoe. This took over an HOUR to receive, and they were not THAT busy. Also, the steak: I could have just thrown it on the grill. There was no seasoning. I did however, like the strawberry margaritas. Those are strong on an empty stomach, so get some chips in that system before you down two!

I had their Chili Con Carne and it was terrific - blazing hot! If you love spice, try the chili.

Went after they re opened. Food was bland. Chips were stale. atmosphere was very uncomfortable. Got the chile rellenos and it tasted like it came out of a freezer.... The beans and rice were good though! Thanks but no thanks.

New York Steak is great. You must try the whole beans. We come here often, usually get the tacos, best in Sierra Vista. Service is also great. Pleasant and fast waiters & waitresses.

We are long standing customers of Ricardo's Restaurant, and always loved eating there. We very much like Ricardo, the individual, on a personal basis. This is why this review pains me to write. After the burn down and rebuild, I have to say we don't like it any more for the following reasons; Too loud. The rebuilt restaurant is institutional architecture at it's extreme. An ersatz adobe structure of all hard surfaces and resembling little more Mexican charm than a doctor's office, the restaurant lost more than it's original charm: it lost it's soul. The service sucks. Long wait lines are often the signature of good restaurant. But excessive lines with little to show for the wait is arrogance, Nothing sends the message to a customer that their time is worthless than to be forgotten for 30 minutes without an order even being taken. Customer interaction. Previous to the fire (about two years ago) one could make reservations for a group of two or more persons. This ensured a table reservation with little waiting for the party when they arrived. The policy for reservations is now changed. For less than a group of two there are no more reservations taken. Long waiting periods to be seated are now the norm. Why a business made such a paradigm shift to a system proven to work so well before so is troubling. It's with a heavy heart we say goodbye to a local icon and institution we've come to love.

One random Friday night my wife and I decided to visit Ricardo's because we wanted to try a restaurant off the beaten path. Since we are both new to the area we allowed Google maps to direct our paths which turned out to be a disaster to say the least. Google has the restaurant placed in the complete opposite of where it is actually located. Google has a track record of providing accurate directions and since we are transplants who are unfamiliar with the area, we continued to circle the block looking like an out-of-state Bonnie and Clyde couple about to do a drive-by! After what seemed like 20mins of casing the joint, we decided to call for directions which were accurate enough to direct us right to the front door.....albeit late! Now for the review.......... Our initial thoughts upon pulling into the parking lot was very poor lighting and limited parking. After parallel parking in the grass we walked across the dark parking lot to a well lit entrance. The inside of the place was.....lets say.....very Arizonian with all things southwest on the walls. The ambient lighting was brownish yellow which may have been caused by the paneling wood like texture of the walls. The restaurant seemed to be split up into two sections because servers were going between the two. I couldn't see or hear into the other section so I am not sure what goes on back there. We were promptly seated and greeted by our server who brought out chips and salsa and took our drink orders. Although the salsa had a black peppery taste that caught me off guard, I thought it was damn good and by the end of the night had consumed 3 helpings! My wife ordered enchiladas, beans and rice and I had carne asada steak with beans and rice. Both were good but neither left a lasting impression that would make this our first choice if in the mood for Mexican cuisine.

Typical Mexican food, nothing special. Service was okay. We went on a Saturday night and had reservations for 5:15PM, but they weren't needed. The crowd started to arrive as we left around 6:30PM. Food seemed to take a long time to be served for the amount of people in the eatery when we were there. I had a combo plate. I like onion or beef in my enchilada. These were just cheese wrapped in a corn tortilla with sauce over the top. Taco was small, beef did not appear to be shredded and it was not too tasty. My chile relleno was small, with not much cheese and the egg was over done. I finished mine, but my sister-in-law, who ordered the same thing, left about half on her plate. My brother ordered the Machaca. All meals came with the standard refried beans and rice, neither of which were very flavorful. My wife had the pan seared trout with baked potato. The best part of her meal was the vegetable. The fish was not fresh, seasoned or tasty. Drinks were four coffees and one red wine. Total bill for the four of us was just under $60, plus tip. We went there because it was recommended by the folks where my brother lives in Sierra Vista. I'm hoping we just had an off night, but I would not go back again.

When in Sierra Vista, don't go to the chains, take the drive down 90. It's great food at a great cost. I had the Tepequnea it was awesome, The chile relenio, which i normally don't eat, was omg good!

I've been to this restaurant twice now and there is neither nothing terrible nor wonderful about this place. If you're looking for something that is "okay" then you can go to Ricardo's. The thing I do like about this place is the fact that they have both Mexican food and it's also a steakhouse. I was told by my friend that they cut their own steaks in the kitchen, and based on the steak that I had last night, I would say that I believe him. They also have nightly specials. Last night, a Thursday, was apparently their big plate special which included, a petit sirloin, a shredded beef taco, a chili relleno, and I think a tamale? Oh yeah, it comes with a margarita too! All of that was $13.95, and I had to ask for a to-go box. I think my opinion on Mexican restaurants relies a lot on the salsa that comes to the table with their chips. I think if you have people making great tasting salsa then you have the potential to have great tasting Mexican food. So how does Ricardo's salsa rate? Eh... it was okay. I think the first time I went they asked if we wanted the "hot" salsa and that one was a lot better than the one they regularly have.

This is every bit as good as any review I've read about it and more. Prices are reasonable, quantities are generous, margaritas are decent, and the food is INCREDIBLE.

Wednesday night special: Chicken, steak, or chicken and steak fajitas. The restaurant has a lot of tables and it does get busy. If traveling in a group of 5 or more, make a reservation. I only go here on Wednesdays. Sometimes the food comes out a little bland but it's easily fixed with a pinch or less of salt. Wait staff are friendly and bus personnel are always around to help.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
