Big portions. Friendly servers and kitchen staff. Not a lot of vegetarian options but I enjoyed the experience.

This roadside saloon and cafe brings all of Heber-Overgaards\'s quiet mountain funk to the table. We were lucky to be after rush diners on a sleepy Tuesday night and had attentive, earnest, friendly service from whomever happened to be available. No *not my station* junk happening here. And it is always refreshing to see cooking and not just finishing. The Sysco truck did not just back up to their door. I had a plain BLT with generous amounts of thick, curly, smoked bacon done *just sandwich right* a couple of romaine leaves and tomatoes that actually tasted like something on lightly turned texas toast. One has to assemble one's own sandwich because fresh homemade condiments are delivered to your table in a bright red bucket. This is truly "have it your way." My wife had the most tender, hand battered fried shrimp...to die for. Who knew? They were light, fluffy and juicy, with a batter that was near tempura in nature and not greasy at all. So the walls are festooned with animal parts. If this offends, why did you stop in Heber? We'll be back again for another dose of Red Onions. Feed the mountain lion. He looks kinda lean.

Funky old bar and restaurant. But, if you want good food, great meats, then there is nowhere else to go than the Red Onion. I love the place, even with its quirky dated look. A must stop by and eat place when in Heber-Overgaard!

I love you Red Onion. I know this is true because if Al and Diane ever decided to throw in the towel I would not be a happy camper. I find her quirks charming, you might find them annoying at first, but she will grow on you. Service: If the restaurant is busy the service will be slow. This is because your server is also your bartender, cashier and busboy. These folks work their butts off. Sit down order your beverage and tell your server you would like to order when she brings your drinks back. This way you get in the que. Wendy is the head server. She is a sweetheart. If you are lucky enough to get her, enjoy. You will probably add another star onto your review. Food: This could be the worlds smallest kitchen. How they crank out that much food is a marvel. Matthew, the head chef is amazing. He cuts his own steaks, trims the Prime rib and grinds the meat for the burgers. They run a great deep fryer and change the oil regularly. Because the kitchen is so small they take a few short cuts. Onion Rings are frozen but the deep fryer skills make them above average. If your meal comes with a vegetable it won't be fresh. They don't have the room to do it all. The potato that comes with the Prime Rib is a little funky. So go back to the salad bar and grab more butter and sour cream. The fish fry on Friday's is pretty darn good. You can order just the dinner instead of the all you can eat meal if you have an average appetite. This will give you more money for another adult beverage. They are known for their burgers and they are good. You can have them cooked to order. The steak sandwich is a hidden gem. Remember, the salad bar is only included in the dinners and only on Friday and Saturday nights. So grab a tabletop near the kitchen, stick a couple bucks in the Jukebox and watch four or five cooks in an area the size of your bathroom go to work. It's the best show in town.

Burgers aren't bad. Service is usually pretty lousy. Fries are horrible. Ambiance is what you would expect. Place survives and does what it does because there are no real alternatives in the immediate area. Competition usually makes service and offerings much better. Worth stopping for if your appetite will not allow you to wait until you get to Holbrook or Show Low.

It was Friday night, we were on our way up to Show Low from the Valley and we were hungry. We wanted something quick but good and on the way to our destination. But where would that be? So we stepped into Al and Diane's to help us fill our tummies. I read the yelp reviews and these alleged phenomenal burgers. Based on the reviews, I expected an amazing burger and one that was equivalent to the best out there; preferably also one that had something to it that made it stand out. What I actually got was a decent burger, but nothing to really write home about. It was good, it was quick, it hit the spot and it was about one step above a BBQ burger off a backyard grill. The burgers aren't very large either, just average size. They also come a la carte, so if you want a side you'll have to order it. The restaurant itself is pretty cool. I could tell that it's definitely a local hangout and a nice and clean one at that. They have a jukebox, good drink specials, plenty of seating in the dining room and bar, and nice wait staff. In summary, this is a good spot to stop at if you're hungry and in the area, it's definitely tasty for a small town eatery but it's not a place I'd seek out as a destination unless I am passing through.

Since we live in the White Mountain's of Arizona about 30 minutes east of Heber we drive thru the area all the time going to and from places. We have eaten here numerous times through out the years, normaly because it is one of the few if not only places to grab a bite in Heber/Overgaard. 10 years ago this place had great food, the fries were fantastic and the drinks were great. The food has sliped in the last few yearsand the service is hit or miss. The food is ok, it does what food is supposed to do, fill you. It isn't anything to rave about and the pricing is a bit too steep for being what it is. If you order a burger, you get just that a burger, NO Sides as they are an additional charge. Soda is $2.50 a pop, and burgers start at 7 bucks, want a cheese burger add $$. So if your passing through Heber and it's later in the evening you can stop in a get a bite and something cold to drink. Just don't expect quick service, and decent, family friendly pricing.

Had dinner with the family on a busy Friday night. The hubby had Al's Monster Burger, which he really enjoyed. My son really enjoyed his bacon cheeseburger and my daughter loved her chicken club. I had the best grilled chicken sandwich, seasoned just right and grilled to perfection. I would recommend this place if you are in the area. We visited while on vacation. Service was fast on a busy Friday night, even though a sign said it may take up to a hour, during busy times. Fries could be better but aside from that food was great.

I ate at the Red Onion on my way from the valley to Pinetop. It ended up being a fulfilling pit stop. I came through on a Friday so how could I resist the all you can eat fish fry. It included the famous salad bar that has about 40 different things. The salad bar is nothing fancy and looks a little ghetto to be honest but, it was super tasty. My girlfriend tried the fried shrimp and loved it. They were a little busy and the waitress had many tables so there were some times without complete service however our waitress could not have been friendlier which makes up the difference in my book. I am excited to try one of the burgers next time that I roll through. We were all pretty surprised about the quality put out by the Red Onion in this sleepy little town. A tip would be to get the normal fried fish plate for half the price of the all you can eat fish. The normal plate provides more than enough and includes the salad bar as well. However me being the true man's man that I am will always get the all you can eat.

Stop the press, fantastic food in HEBER? Yes, it's true. Red Onion would fit in so well in Tempe, somewhere near campus. Make no mistake, this is a sports bar in every way. Plenty of TV sets and a gigantic projector in the back dining room showing Nascar seemingly non stop. One might look around here and think total dive bar, but we're traveling so it's ok. If you judged it like that, you'd only partially be right. The burgers at Red Onion are amongst the best I've ever had. They aren't organic grass fed hipster yuppie burgers. These are greasy full flavor burgers with all the toppings. My favorite is the Western Burger with cheddar, BBQ sauce, and onion rings. They make AMAZING buffalo wings and are a bunch of small town nice people who work there. This place has become an absolute mainstay for me and I cannot make the drive to the white mountains without stopping here.

  • Mike E.

The burger might be good but expensive. They charge a buck for a take out box, 1 Western Burger cost me $10 bucks.

I really liked this place. My hubby thought the burger could have been larger but I had the smaller version and it was fine for me. I had the mushroom burger and it was great. The waitress was really nice and joked around with us. The place had a fun vibe to it. Good place to go for a beer with friends or have a casual dinner. I would definitely go back if in the area.

My Parents have a cabin in High Country Pines, my girfriend and I frequent this place every time we are there. The chef at this joint should be working at a 5 star restaurant in Phx. He rules. I have never had primerib anywhere like the way he cooks it. All of his sandwiches especially the French Dip, his burgers, everything this dude cooks is the bomb. I live out in Ahwatukee down in Phx and cannot find anywhere thats a burger and steak joint that can touch this guys food. If I was gay I would make the sweet sweet man luvin to his Prime Rib, as well as Al's double bacon burger. :(

I would not recommend this place. Visited this burger place because I was staying the weekend with wife at the family cabin in Heber and there is not much to choose from in this small town. I was expecting more, and take into account my above statement, my expectations were not that high. We walked into to get a to-go order, the sign said "seat yourself" so we sat by the door to keep an eye on our vehicle as we decided what we would want. After about 10 minutes I started to get anxious because no one had so much as acknowledged us yet so we decided to move closer to the bar. We stood by the bar waiting for another 10 minutes at least, often in the way of passing waitresses and still could not get them to stop and take our order. Now before I go on it was not that busy even for a Saturday night, there was so much coverage on the tables that a small group of waitresses had the time to chat in the corner the entire time we were in the restaurant, even looking over at us at one point before going back to their conversation. Not an impressive first impression. We finally flagged down a waitress to take our order and the best way I could describe her, and the staff I had contact with, would be uptight. As we waited to receive our food, and for the waitress to take our money, my wife noticed that not only was the main cook's hair not secured in a hairnet (he had a floppy ponytail that was just resting on his shoulder) he was also handling all of the food barehanded. Now that was not standard operating procedure back when I was a cook and that almost had me out the door without the food and taking my cash with me. I decided to suck it up and get our food and enjoy it, I mean we already made it to this point. The entire experience took close to an hour from walk in to walk out and the food was not bad though my wife compared her burger to Carl's Jr. and I thought that the onion rings were very good. My final judgement is that the food is decent, nothing to rave about, but the service and cooking methods are terrible. I would not recommend this place to any but the most desperate travelers. I will not go back.

Ugh. The service is so rotten! We had to call the waitress over, she ignored us the rest of the time while chatting to locals and we had to stand up to get the bill. My burger was raw, not rare, and our appetizer came at the same time as the meal. Never again--we'll tough it out to burger king in show low.

I was passing thru today and have enjoyed this place in the past so I thought I'd give it a try. The green chili Philly sandwich was very good and so were the onion rings. With the tip it cost $23.00 for lunch, that's pretty steep. The fries or onion rings are extras, the burger or sandwich is ala carte!!! Can't complain about the food or service they were both very good. Will eat there again.

Took a day trip to Heber for father's day to escape the heat. Very good food. My in-laws used to have a cabin in town, and I can't believe we hadn't been here before. Everything was fresh and the server was attentive. I do have a compliant that they only have 2 high chairs, being used by a family with twins, so I had to keep my 1 1/2 year old in the booth with me (not an easy task) until that family was done with their meal.

Walked in around 8 pm with a teen and a six year old on a rainy Sunday night and we were "hangry." No, that is not a misspell. I was really glad to see a restaurant open, but was a little nervous about the food judging by the ambiance when we walked in. Yikes. Everything seemed old and greasy; felt like I needed shower upon exit. Our booth had a curtain blocking the pool tables and a giant taxidermy animal above us. Oh boy. I checked out Yelp reviews while we waited and the reviews were good.... So, we went ahead with our order. We were pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food really was! I ordered a French Dip and it was one of the best I've had. My children ordered burgers and onion rings and were equally impressed with quality of their food. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and we ended up staying until almost ten pm enjoying ourselves. This is definitely as case where you cannot judge the book by the cover. Would highly recommend to anyone traveling in area to consider this a top choice.

This was my first trip to Heber. My hosts said this was the best place to grab a burger or sandwich. My friend had the Little Red Burger and said it was delicious. I had the French Dip (made from prime rib supposedly) and it was good, but not great. The onion rings had an odd flavor--I would not order them again. And, the fries were just so-so. This is a small town America restaurant. It needs business. Would definitely return!

Fabulous service!!! Cold beer, okay food. The burger patties are way too thin and overcooked to be $8-$9 a la cart. The french fries were house cut and delicious but definitely not worth the $3. Could have used more seasoning but it is a small town so I understand that some of the older crowd may not enjoy that. Nothing a little extra salt at the table could fix. They should rework the menu to be more like "Cheese Burger and Fries for $8..." instead of trying to rob you by being one of the only places in town.

1st time here: Sunday night dinner around 8pm with my boyfriend and 8 year old son. Really welcome vibe when you first get in, although there were no employees around to greet us, there was a "seat yourself" sign. Never being here before, we sat at one of the closest to the door tables. Roughly 4 min later a waitress approached, letting us know we weren't allowed to sit in this area... (it's a bar apparently); she did however let us sit in one if the big booths that are usually only reserved for a party of 5 or up. Our waitress was very attentive, except regarding refills. Onion rings were amazing! I had Al's monster burger. It was delicious right at the table, but didn't make for good left overs. My boyfriend had the chili size, which he devoured. They were out of take home boxes, so foil was provided. We'll go back to try more of the menu. This time of the week seems to suit us. Somewhat pricey, but their food is not at all over priced. Oh, and the bucket of condiments were genius!

Awesome burger and real hand cut french fries. Beer selection needs some help though. Craft beer isn't a fad.

  • Chris R.

My hubby and I tried the Western Burger and mushroom Swiss burger. The mushroom burger was good and cooked well. The western burger was supposed to have BBQ sauce on it, and what little sauce was on it tasted good, it could have used more if it. The patties were on the thin side. The onion rings were average, not much flavor. Seemed a little pricy, but the service was very good. The place could use a good cleaning and updating. Please clean the antlers on the walls they are dusty!!

  • Kelly N.

Love, love, love their burgers! So delicious!! A tad pricey, however, but it's a small town, so it's a bit more than what you'd pay from a chain, but WORTH IT!!! My only disappointment was that they didn't have any sort of kid's menu for my children. So I had my two boys split an adult size meal instead. Definitely worth a visit!! You won't be disappointed in the quality of their burgers.

I've been stopping here for lunch for the past ten or so years and I'm finally getting around to reviewing it. They are known for their burgers which are surely not to be missed. Their homemade onion rings are a must try too! They've always been consistent with the food over the past ten years. During the summer there can be a wait so plan ahead. The service this last time was the best I've ever had there. Our waitress Sharon (or Shannon?) was so nice and attentive. Otherwise the service can be hit or miss because it's a sit yourself down kind in place and can be very busy. But definitely try it for the burger and fries.

Good food, nice involved waitress, had a good experience here. Very family friendly and nice staff. Came when it wasn't crowded however, it suppovely gets crowded in 'crowded season' as it's the best restaurant in town.

Awesome local spot with a fun juke box and pool table. Angie was our server/bartender awesome service and was extremely accommodating while we finished watching the football game, our beers and playing pool... Would definitely go back again!

Service is not that great and food is so expensive for not being exceptional. Many other places in Heber that are better. I heard everything about the Red Onion was better 5-10 years ago.

What can I say? After driving past this place numerous times, I stopped in! I went for the jugular, ordering a double bacon cheeze burger and ice tea. And boy o boy, what a tasty burger! And now I can hardly move! The bill was just under 16$ though, so they aren't giving them away. Good burgers, nice interior and friendly service! 4 solid stars

Pretty good place. The decor is a little outdated and there are hunting trophies which didn't bother me a bit, it was a nice refreshing change from the city polish a lot of places have. We read that they were famous for burgers so that is what we went with & weren't disappointed in the least. Great meat! You get to assemble yourself and they don't get all crazy with fussy toppings here. Best part of the event was a bucket of condiments (mayo, ketchup, mustard and Ranch!) and the soda cups that require 2 hands! Our server was just sassy enough not to be boring and a couple of others checked on us too. The low point was the onion rings - they were passable but nothing special. Prices were reasonable but the food takes awhile (they were not busy but door warns of 45 minute cook times during peak)

You come to this place for the burgers. Period. They are amazing. This restaurant is a no frills place to eat where you can get dinner and an adult beverage. I would not go as far as to say it's a dive but it is certainly not fancy. You have to remember it's in a small town eatery. However, the 2 times we have been here for dinner, it's packed. That tells me the place should be somewhat acceptable to eat at. We also ordered French fries and zucchini sticks. The fries were natural cut with the skins still on and were really good. All the food came out cooked perfectly and hot. The order was accurate all the way around. Our server was very friendly and kept our drinks full. She checked on is multiple times to make sure we didn't need anything. I also like how they give you a bucket of condiment bottles- ranch, mayo, mustard and ketchup. We are going to make this place a tradition and stop for dinner here on our way back home to the valley after visiting up North.

For a small town the prices may be a tad high but it is oh so worth it! You have to pay for the burger and fries separately, but who cares when the food is this good. Super juicy, perfectly cooked burger and the fries...they look and taste fresh! What? Could it be? Real unfrozen slices of potato fried to perfection? I almost forgot what real fries taste like.

They lose a point for having heads of dead animals on the walls, but I'm guessing the locals don't mind that. Because of yelp reviews and the fact that the menu said their burgers are "famous", that's what 3 of us ordered. They really were very good and meat tasted fresh as promised. Two of us ordered bacon burgers and were impressed by the quality and amount of bacon. We also ordered a salad and were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't just iceberg and cucumbers. It contained a nice variety of good stuff, including green peppers and broccoli. We didn't hang out at the bar, but there was a good crowd in there considering it was 2 PM. Looked like a mixture of locals and bikers. The decor around the bar was pretty interesting. I wish the dining area had a little more personality--and less dead animals!

Great burgers! Coming out of the mountains leaving Phoenix. Friendly and quick service. Cold beer. I didn't mind a bit having to put pickles and onions on myself! Worth the stop!

Outstanding battered cod dinner! The place was crazy busy, but the service was prompt, with all smiles. Their prices are reasonable, and food quality excellent. My husband's grilled chicken sandwich was delicious too! 5 stars for sure!!

This was one of my highlight stops on my spontaneous road trip to Show Low. My family and I all ordered a cheeseburger, along with an order of fries for us to share. After which a bucket of condiments was quickly brought to our table, which I thought was cute. I liked my burger a lot. I had to put it together myself if that sort of thing bothers you, but I don't mind, since it saves me the trouble of ordering it without onions. Apparently the beef is never frozen and it shows. This was a high quality burger, and the prices and portions were very fair. One order of fries was more than enough for us, but quantity aside they were a disappointing greasy mess. I didn't have any complaints with the atmosphere or the service, so yeah, the place seems pretty legit for being out in the middle on nowhere if you can forgive me for saying so. I'd be happy to go again, but I think I'll skip the fries next time.

One of the dirtiest kitchens I've seen lately. No gloves, no personal hygiene from cooks, never switched cooking utensils, get condiments from dipping in huge jugs with their hands and microwave their frozen meats before dropping them into a fryer.

Western Burger was yummy! Loved the beer battered onion rings. Sorry no pics. I was too hungry to take the time for a pic, LOL!!

Whether the Red Onion is busy or empty, prepare to wait. Is this a strategy to sell more beer? :-) The wait never varies! Everything is grilled or fried, and the grilled items are tasty. Condiments are fresh, although sloppily cut. Don't put the 1/4-inch thick onion slice on your burger if you're on a date! This isn't the best eatery in Heber, but often has a full parking lot. Location and exterior signage are worth the investment. :-)

There is so little to be excited about in Heber. If you're not careful you might even drive right through Heber without knowing you were there (but at least it's not Rye, AZ). Thankfully, Heber has the Red Onion!! I thoroughly enjoyed our visit on our way back from Pinetop-Lakeside. The Red Onion had a nice wood-burning fire in the corner when we walked in and the smell of burgers and french fries filled the air. The service was pretty slow {but I was also really hungry and impatient}. I ordered The Chili Burger and a corn dog and Thomas got the Western and a side of real-potato fries {which sound much better than they were}. I LOVED my burger!! The chili, onions, burger...everything was delicious! The corn dog was super tasty too. Unfortunately, the fries were less to be desired {soggy and under cooked}, I will forever skip the fry experience here - if you want fries from real potatoes go to In 'n Out. The Red Onion is now a new tradition that we will always do on the way home from Pinetop-Lakeside.

Whenever I'm takin' my rig through the Mogollon Rim, I stop off and fill up my tank. The Bacon Cheeseburger is a sure thing. If the roads are icy in the winter, do yourself a favor and wait it out here.

We often pass through Heber on our way down to the Valley never stopping but always taking notice to the Red Onion billboards. We finally decided to stop this time and I'm glad we did. The onion rings are delicious and I don't even eat onion rings. All items come separately and generously. We had one of their famous burgers and their homemade fries. Ask to have you burger patty to be cooked a little more thoroughly if you don't like your meat red, all burgers are cooked medium. Aside from our thirty-five dollar ticket (for 2) at a burger joint it was good. A game of pool was a plus.

  • Jennifer C.

The Red Onion has a decent size lounge area with two pool tables, a long bar, and a few dining tables. Children are not allowed in this area, so we headed up to the dining area. The dining area is full of antlers and deer heads mounted on the wall, so if you're startled by this sort of stuff, you've been warned. We sat in a booth next to a curtain. I'd avoid this spot in the future because years of cigarette smoke still cling to it, and if you're sitting next to it, that will be all you can smell until your food comes. We tried the green chili burger, the chicken sandwich, fried shrimp basket, and a green salad. Maybe most surprising was the small green salad which was not small and chock-full of fresh veggies, including everything from broccoli to carrots. They serve your burgers/sandwiches with a six-pack holder full of condiments which was nice. The fries were good, and it was a fight until the last one. I'd stop here again while passing through.

We were lucky enough to have Wendy serve us and had the awesome experience we were treated to the first time we ate here. I still think the bar service is much better than the dining area. So my tip is to go without the kids.

We recently had lunch at the Red Onion grill. I was very dissapointed not only by the service, but also by the food itself. Probably due to the fact that the quality of the food did not warrant the outrageous cost. Drinks are $2.50 each, and we actually had to go up to the bar to get a refill. Once our waitress took our order, we never saw her again until food was delivered. And then not again until our bill arrived. Food is also alacart. We had ordered burgers, and had to order french fries and onions seperately. For $5.99 we received 10 (ONLY 10!!) cold onion rings. We have cabin in Heber and have been to Red Onion a number of times. The poor economy has caused other resturants in town to go to seasonal schedules or close. It's unfortunately that the Red Onion is sacrificing customer service, while also gouging customers "because they can".

Seriously? Why is it that some of the best places to get food are the random stops you happen to make because you just happened to drive by it? We were on a road trip from Michigan and felt like if we had any more drive thru we would kill someone. I saw a billboard for the Red Onion Lounge boasting the best burgers around and decided we should check it out. The inside of this place rocks, it's so rustic and cozy, they had a fire going in the corner too which was nice. The booths are all wood carved and really comfortable, or maybe I was just glad to be out of the car! I ordered the green chile burger with pepperjack cheese. My bf got their version of the french dip. My burger was amazing, the beef was fresh and grilled perfectly and tasted like a backyard bbq style patty. The green chile was perfect and spicy with the right texture. The bun was also fluffy and delicious and brought the whole thing together. Bf's french dip was so delicious you didn't even need to dip it in the sauce. We also got a side of onion rings and I usually don't care for them but these were amazing I couldn't stop myself from having more than a few! We were so happy to have such a delicious meal, and almost felt like taking a nap before getting back on the road for the rest of our drive! Too bad we live near the city, it'd be a few hours just to drive back here for another meal. But if we are driving past it in the future you better be sure we are stopping in!

After a long hunting trip the family wanted some good fresh cooked food and the Red Onion did not fail. I had the Chicken Club sandwich n Beer Battered Mushrooms, really really good. My brother asked the waitress who was really nice what she recommends n she said the Al's Monster Burger or Al's Big Burger or something like that. Anyway she said that it was the best burger she ever ate and it did not fail to live up to the hype. Got 3 words for ya Green Chile & Bacon on a Burger! In all we had good food n a good time @ the Red Onion so if u r in the need for some good food stop in n have a bit u won't b disappointed.

OK to start off I like the rustic look. With that said we sat down and the waitress look at us said nothing and walked by a couple of time saying nothing. It was like we did not exist. After 15 minutes we got up and was putting on our coat then another waitress stopped by and said where are you going. My reply was after 15 minutes of being ignored you lost my business. And we left. Went down the road about 4 miles to the Wild Woman Bar and Grill. Great service so far. Will write more on their site.

I've been meaning to review this place for a while. We have a place up in Heber and get up there 12-15 times a year. The first time I went to the Red Onion, it was actually pretty alright, The service was slow and I was really surprised that everything was alacarte AND over priced. I've been 7 or 8 times since. I don't know WHY we get roped into it. The burgers are actually pretty good, and the fries are generally pretty OK as well... So some of my complaints. 1.) Slow Service or totally ignored except to take orders, bring initial drinks, food, and check. (even then paying the check and getting your credit card back could take you a good half an hour, there is no excuse for this) 2.)I've never complained about anything and had the waitress actually fix it. (A few examples... weak over priced drinks with juice that smelled/tasted "off" or "turned", grease pooled under the fries, cold food, flies, wilted dirty salad bar, which looks like no one tends it at all) 3.) Its dirty 4.) They get really upset with you if you only have 2 or 3 people and want to sit in a booth, since thier booths are meant for 6 people, they prefer you have 4-6. They are downright rude about it when you insist too. Even when the place is dead they get upset about it. I understand that its remote, so I understand the prices, but charge more and include a side, LIKE PRETTY MUCH EVERYWHERE ELSE. When you mess something up, you cop to it and you fix it. This is not something they don't ever do for us, and tend to be fairly rude about anything but you taking thier bad service. There are so many other places to eat breakfast and lunch at up there, but in the evening the choices become bleak, this is why, I think, we end up at the Red Onion, knowing we will be irritated with the meal, the service, or the bill in the end. I never recommend this place, and its not even really about the food, to me, the food issues can easily be changed, the place COULD BE cleaned up, even the alacarte style menu can be changed. But the management/wait staffs attitude wont be changing.

The hamburgers were delicious! The fries were pretty greasy. The service was TERRIBLE!!! First time I've left no tip at all. If you don't mind being ignored, but would love a magical burger....I would suggest it for sure!

My stepdaughter and I went to the Red Onion last summer to get take out for the family. When we entered, the waitress looked at us and walked by - so we went to the bar area. The bartender standing where we sat looked at us and walked to the other end of the bar and talked to customers. My stepdaughter called her over and without even looking at me took our order and walked away. We had to call her over again to get drinks while we waited for the food. Our family spends many weekends, summer and winter, in the beautiful family community of Heber-Overgaard; we own homes there, shop and dine there. It was a sad day for our family to experience such blatant racism in a town that we all consider our home away from home. I am retired after 52 years of work, I am a husband, father, grampa and friend, I am a good honest man - and I happen to be black - and my sweet stepdaughter is white. I haven't been so disrespected in years - and even sadder was for my stepdaughter to have to witness the ignorance that so many have struggled to leave behind. The Red Onion has definitely left a bad taste in this family's experience.

During a motorcycle road trip from Phoenix to Santa Fe in 2008, I popped into this joint to wet my whistle and silence the rumble in my stomach. Great ambiance, great service, ice cold beers and delicious burgers in a local setting. This place is a must stop for any biker cruising through this region. Looking forward to my next visit.

Oh Heber, how I've passed through you many times, and there really isn't a reason to stop except for gas...or a damn good burger. I frequent this place usually after a long day at Sunrise going back to Phx, and want a high-caloric meal after skiing all day. I always go with the Green Chile chzburger+bacon and onion rings on the side to nourish my energy starved body. All my bros usually get something along those lines, and we've never been let down. Kinda set back by the other reviews. I can't believe how high of standards these people have for a roadside restaurant and I've never had anything but great service here. This might be because I'm a nice talkative person who doesn't act like they're better than this place, therefore Red Onion's staff reciprocates this with attentive service.

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat on our way to Show Low. I ordered the prime rib French dip and it was very good. They really piled on the meat and the au jus that was served with it had a really good flavor. Hubby had a bacon cheeseburger and again the bacon was piled high on it. Both of us went through several napkins each which in my book means that it's a really good sandwich. The sandwiches come al a carte so we ordered one side of french fries to share. They are sliced fresh with the skins left on and they were very tasty. Service was good and it was nice listening to the jukebox sitting next to us.

Stopped here for lunch during the long drive from Phoenix to Albuquerque. The place doesn't look like much from the outside (or the inside) but the food was actually okay. I tried the barbecue burger and my boyfriend had the green chile burger. Both were decent, especially considering the other options in the area. The fries were too oily but the burgers are good.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
