Finally got a chance to check this place out and was pleasantly surprised! My initial thought was that it was odd to open an ice cream shop in the same location as the last one (which closed up), but this is actually a much different concept than the store it replaced. The biggest difference, which you'll notice as soon as you walk up, is that it's window service only. A tad overwhelming for the uninitiated, but I have to give them props for having such a verbose breakout of the options. Layout could probably be a bit more intuitive and easier to decipher, but the information is all there once you get your bearings. Normally it wouldn't be an issue, but when there's a crowd of people and probably a line in most cases, the last thing you want to do as a new customer is embarrass yourself by getting lost in all the options and needing help to decrypt the menu of their offerings, all the while having people behind you rolling their eyes at the fledgling holding up the line. To that end, if you're not sure what you want to get or want some time to get educated by the super friendly staff, my suggest is to go off peak when you can take your time and/or try some samples without anyone else in line getting butt-hurt over the holdup. So on to the food, what's the verdict? I have to admit that I am impressed. I had gotten a flyer that extolled the virtues of the Misto shakes and, while intrigued by Italian ice coupled with frozen custard, part of me also thought it sounded odd. Still, as the old adage goes, no risk and no reward, so I took a chance on the vanilla custard and watermelon ice combination and had my first Misto. In a word: "Wow!" Definitely not something you can compare to either plain frozen custard or shaved ice type drinks, this is definitely a different experience. You get the cool, brain-freeze inducing, shaved-ice, but coupled with the creaminess and richness of the custard. The texture is somewhere between a milkshake and the frosty drinks you can get at most convenience stores, but much more appealing than either one. It's not as thick or difficult to drink as a milkshake, but not as liquid-sugar/super sweet as the frosty gas station drinks. Just a quick note on service, as I must call attention to how patient and friendly both staffers were with us during our visit. It was nearly closing time (by about 10 minutes) and we were literally the last customers of the night, but they treated us fantastic. All smiles, super helpful and courteous and made it a great first experience. If you're feeling adventurous and enjoy both frozen custard and frosty / shaved ice / Italian ice types of drinks, I highly recommend you give this place a try and take the Misto plunge. They are ridiculously good, and the service at this location is top notch.

Nice summer spot on the arrowhead side of town. Their italian ice offerings change daily, the gelati is so good. Ice cream (no custard right now due to egg shortage) and their italian ice...YUMMO! I hope their custard comes back soon, it is so darn good!

Really small location that only has outdoor seating, so be forewarned. The woman working was so nice and offered samples of the ice. I fell in love with the Pumpkin Cheesecake, plus it's fitting for the season! Pumpkin flavor with slight spice and refreshing! Always smooth, good tasting ice at Rita's without the overly artificial flavor of shaved ice. Lovely service from the woman and great ice/custard!

The gelato ice cream's are actually pretty legit. But that custard is something else. It's a good thing to get a good combination of both just so it balances themselves out. There about like anywhere from 3 to 4 dollars it's worth trying if you guys like Ice cream

Went to Rita's for the first time today and was greeted warmly by staff. I explained that this was my first visit. The employee took time to explain the different options available and then offered me a few samples. Once I made my choice, the employee I was working with made my treat and gave it to me as I moved down the line of customers. Other employees were equally as friendly as they assisted in the sale. I had chosen a mango/custard drink. The large size was more than enough to drink. It was very yummy! I felt that the price was quite fair for what I received. The store was clean, bright, and cheerful. All in all, it was a great experience. It was a nice alternative to it's next door neighbor which is where I typically go for beverage treats! I will definitely go back again. It was a great experience! (Oops!! This review is for my visit at their location on Union Hills/and the 101, The Arrowhead Union Hills South Shopping Center) :-)

Rita's is truly amazing, especially during the hot summers here in Phoenix. My boyfriend and I can't help but go almost every weekend to get their "gelati" treat with is frozen custard with Italian ice on top. They are have a great variety of ice flavors that changes regularly. Great place to stop with family, friends, and even pets! My girlfriends and I call it a near obsession.

Smaller location with limited flavors but still very good. Nice to have a local Rita's to go to.

What's not to love anything that starts with ice in AZ. The staff was super nice offering samples. Always greeted with a smile. I'm a big fan of the Italian ice.

Love this new store. Reminds me of eating Italian ice as a kid in Philly. Great flavors including green apple, Florida orange, strawberry colada, sour patch kids, and so many more. The frozen lemonade drink is my new favorite.

I was thrown back at first since this is technically not an indoor location. They have a variety of flavors which I was told changes daily. They gave us the suggestion to combine different flavors to make like peanut butter and jelly. The employees are very friendly and helpful especially if it's your first time there. There is plenty of outdoor seating and shade if you would like to stay and enjoy your custard/ice concoction.

Unique little place! The mango ice is really good and live the amount of flavor put in! Definitely a must try especially in a hot place like AZ!

I have only been twice but both times the service has been excellent as well as the lemonade italian ice.

What's not to love?! The always offer to give you samples of flavors that might interest you and the flavors never disappoint. I love that there are so many combinations of custard and ice. The locations in AZ don't have even a fraction of the flavors I have seen in Rita's locations in New Jersey, but I still love what they've got. I usually get vanilla custard with lemonade and raspberry, which is an amazing flavor combo!

Love this place! We come here after taking the fur kids to the dog park around the corner. It's so great that they have "pup cups" for our babies. Customer service is always fantastic.

Limited flavors on custard and italian ice... =( I did not find my blue raspberry... Got the cream coconut ice with vanilla frozen custard. It was way too sweet.

It was hot out so I thought I would give this place a shot. The frozen custard is something different for me, but I found it very refreshing. For me it was a cross between shaved ice and ice cream and you can't really go wring with either. We tried the flavor of the moth which was the watermelon chocolate. It was different but good. It was hard to taste the watermelon over all the little bits of actual chocolate they put in it but it did hit the spot.
