Best Mexican food I've had. Great service, great atmosphere. I never leave disappointed!

Stopped over after a trip to the Biosphere for a quick late lunch. We were excited for some local cuisine. The place is family run and has good home recipes. Food was decent but average. Their homemade salsa was the highlight of the meal.

Decent stop with warm and welcoming service, dishing up average Gringo-Mex, for when you're cruising Oro Valley. This little mom n pop joynt has been here for at least 10 years, so they must be doing something right. Don't bother visiting nearby B2 and instead, just go straight to the top of Mt. Lemmon for gorgeous views. Good times in the Sonoran Desert!!!

This is a nice place if you are traveling north of Tucson taking Oracle. I have only been there once, but the food and the service was good. I had no complaints. I actually finished my entire plate, which is not common in a Mexican restaurant for me. Another patron stopped and looked at the plates at our table and commented on how the food must me good because both my plate and my friends were cleared. I would be happy to go here again when I'm driving by.

Food is good. Super friendly and attentive service. Portions are big enough to fill you up. I ate a combination plate with chile relleno, enchiladas and beef taco. Quite tasty. If visiting the Biosphere this is a great place to eat before hitting the road. My son had and horchata drink and it was delicious, not too sweet and with plenty of flavor

Stopped here on our way back from visiting the Biosphere 2. Our server was very friendly, and brought out some flour chips to help distract my hangry daughter. Good portions, and we all thought it was really good. Their green chili is delicious, and went well with the bean burrito (they didn't come together, I was just experimenting). Would definitely recommend this place to someone else.

The service here is excellent and the food looks very good. I had the green chili burrito and it had nice chucks of chilies and the sauce was not salty at all. Great place.

All food at Lupes is hand made by family, you can't go wrong with any choice, if you like chilli rellanos these are the best, l Lupe won't show any one how she makes them, damn...

Great food, great atmosphere, great service! We were a big group at the lunch rush, and hardly had to wait. The green chile was wonderful.

Wow! This was amazing food! Everything was homemade from the salsa and guacamole to the machaca tacos! The rice and beans were amazing, as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Great AZMex food! Solid menu and food. Service is a little slow, even when hardly any customers in the place, usually a sign of insufficient training. Once they get that down, they could be 5 stars.

Found this Desert Gem on Yelp and it delivered true Mexican food! I had the muchacho tacos and a margarita and it was so good. Also the chips and salsa were spot on! Thanks Yelp peeps for finding this one.

After we went to the Biosphere 2, my husband and I got hungry and decided to join the friends we went with for lunch here. The food was good, and the service was all right. I still prefer La Casita if I'm in this area, but I'm okay with this place. If La Casita is closed during the summer, this is comparable and will be a decent substitute for it.

Lupe's, ahh those were the days. I used to look forward to a quick stop at Lupe's when hunger struck after a hike in the area. The pink building, sadly, has seen better days. Maybe the owners are going for a rustic feel with the crumbling plyboard façade, but it seems more likely that lassitude has set in. Still, Lupe's used to be a diamond of Mexican cuisine in a rough crossroads. Now the food is mediocre at best and the ambience teeters precariously toward tawdry. The chimichangas are still melt-in-your mouth tender and crispy, but the green chili is thin and undefined, the salsa is bland and watery, and the chips are tough, flavorless, and ice cold. Keep rolling - ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Our Mexican food eatery north of Tucson. Many excellent menu choices. My favorite is a the Machaca Burro, followers closely by the enchilada plate. Their new building much nicer than the one they recently moved out of., but just next door.

The menu has a good selection, don't go if you are in a rush. The food is tasty.

After a visit to Biosphere 2, my friends and I had lunch here. The food was very good and not expensive at all. I had chicken enchiladas with beans and rice. It was a healthly portion and I ate all of it. I liked the older pink building where they used to work out of sitting next to the brand new building where they now serve. I would definitely recommend this place.

The "Old Pink Building" is no more. It's still standing (barely) and Lupes has moved next door to what used to be Jaspers. Much newer and nicer building. Still the same great service and very tasty food.

The food is so delicious! It never lets you down. When you get it however, can be frustrating. Service is poor and very, very slow even if you're the only one there. The menu is WAY overpriced for what you get. Its worth going one time just for the red chile.

i arrived early for a caving trip in oracle. since it was still breakfast time, i headed inside and was so so pleased to see they had huevos rancheros. i'm very picky with this plate (after the best one i've ever eaten at The Flying Star in albq, nm), so i wasn't expecting greatness. although surprised, not overwhelmingly impressed. standard egg, tortilla, beans, peppers. the refried beans were just canned (or tasted as much), and the chilles weren't the sweet, hot, and savory green chilles. just a standar, average plate of juevos rancheros. it was a tad greasy and bland, but you know, this place is in the middle of nowhere. it's not like they can jet down to the local trader joe's or local organic farmers market to pick up fresh ingredients. so it sufficed for a rib sticking breakfast. cute inside and thank goodness they were playing mexican music...i hate to go in an ethnic restaurant and they are playing hip-hop. service was friendly and succinct. plus they knew everyone that walked in so i assumed it was pretty good. i paid 9 bucks for my meal.

Hands down, the best breakfast burrito we have ever had. Every time we come down from phoenix we stop here for breakfast. Ask for the breakfast burrito with churrizo, eggs, potatoes, cheese, and tomatoes- you will be in for a real treat!

Bleh. We went here right after my folks moved to Saddlebrooke and I immediately became concerned with their decision to leave Orange County! I thought for sure Mexican food in Arizona would be authentic and good. This place was awful. First, the ambience. We ate at glorified outdoor picnic tables. My drink came in a can. I had to ask for a glass with ice. It seemed like a foreign concept to the staff. Dinner was greasy and poor quality. Even though there was no one in the restaurant, service was horribly slow. I couldn't wait to go home and take a shower. Wouldn't go back if you paid me.

The outside of Lupes looks like a ptomaine palace, but the inside is far nicer. It isn't elegant, but it is clean. The staff are friendly, and the service is usually quick. Nonetheless, the food is why the locals come to Lupes. It is good, down-home style Mexican food. Nothing fancy, but what they do, they do well. The portions are generous, and the flavors are good. Not too hot, not too bland. And cheap! I dare you to find better food for a better price.

Past Catalina and Saddle Brook, just before the turnoff to the back way to Phoenix, highway 79 is a little Mexican place that we discovered several years ago. We usually order the 3 taco plate, $9, served with beans and rice. They prepare them the old fashion way, fill the corn tortilla with the meat and deep fry it, then top it with shredded lettuce. Nice and crispy with a good crunch. Salsa, beans, and rice are good. We have tried other items, but seem to go back for the taco's only. Service is very good if they aren't super busy.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
