Hit or miss. I've been in there a dozen times in the last 8 months and I haven't had a consistent meal. I see the same people in there working but the food is unpredictable. I've had a few meals that I thought were certainly above average and I've walked away recommending people try it. But the last several visits have left me wanting. It's expensive for the type of food they are putting on your plate as well. If their portions were larger and the food was good I'd go in there more often. As of now, I only go in there when I'm in Amado and there really aren't other options.

This is solid food and drink in a place with a long history. Burgers, steaks, Mexican food and some other choices. Burgers and staeks are great. Never got to the Mexican food casue I like the steaks and burgers so much. Comfy cowboy setting with nifty placemats with all the local cattle brands from the surrounding ranches, now and in the past. Great service.

I prefer city dwelling, so my hope is that if you are reading this, you are passing by. My father retired to this God awful wasteland, so I visit on occasion. I usually DETEST anything cooked south of 79th St. in Chicago, (I used to believe the world was flat and ended at 111th St.) but The Cow Palace is quite an exception. Every steak, burger, burrito and side dish has been excellent. It is well staffed and service is always prompt. The Mexican food served is just that, not Tex-Mex shit. My father is now lost at sea, presumed dead, but my stepmom still lives there. I'm sure my next trip won't be complete without a visit to The Cow Palace.

Pretty good standard fare. Note: The map shown on here is wrong. The address is correct. Use the address on Yelp along with a google. Cow Palace is on the west side of I-19 at Exit 48. The location shown here is near Canoa Rd/Elephant Head Rd., which is a full exit north of the actual location of Cow Palace.

As I was meandering aimlessly thinking about moving for a job to Tucson, I looked up the Cow Palace. The Tucson tourist map describes it as a place that old Hollywood types would frequent, think John Wayne. I ordered a burger and fries and it was decent. The waitress was very nice but it took awhile for my food to come, although it was a slow time of day, hence one star taken away.

This place is awful!!!! I took aguest there and the chef approached our table and embarrassed my guest! I'm a fifth generation Arizonian and they have no idea of most of the history of this place and some are not true!!! The food is just OK at best combine this with the rude, sorry management and it's a no go for me and our family reunion.

Not fancy, just really good home cooking! I had liver and onions and it tasted like mom made it. The waitresses are friendly and efficient and the drinks are good. Definitely a place I'd visit again!

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Reasonably priced. Awesome bacon cheeseburger with wonderfully crisp bacon.

I ordered a medium rare Mushroom Swiss burger, my sister got a well done Mushroom Swiss also and my mom got a well done Bacon & Bleu Cheese burger , burgers were awesome, temperatures were spot and very well seasoned. As an appetizer we ordered the loaded potato skins, they are simply amazing!!! overall experience 9/10 the restrooms are a little old and still trapped in the old "cantina" style which I like but they are not well maintained. Overall a great place to enjoy burgers in family, prices a very fair can be compared with Chili's and Applebee's but with best flavors (not the frozen linear recipes from chain resturants)

This place is OK. Amado is something of a trailer park dump. "Open range" signs marked with cattle symbols are scattered throughout the area, though wild dogs are also seen to roam and pick at garbage near the haphazardly placed trailers. So Cow Palace is actually something of a nice place, considering its surroundings. I'd still choose Mr C's in Nogales over the Cow Palace, however. Or better yet, wait 30-40 minutes to make it up I-19 to the Texas Roadhouse on the outskirts of the Tucson metro area. Interior is fairly dark and kind of cold feeling, but I could imagine on a summer night, that it would be fairly crowded and a nice respite from the outdoor heat. There are actual cowboys in this restaurant, some wearing actual soiled work wear. However, most of the patrons are local retirees, suffering from many types of ailments, asking the waitress to repeat what she said. I ordered the filet, and it was a little pricey ($28 or so) for what it was. Kind of a mediocre cut, in terms of toughness (not tender at all), comparable to the steaks served at Pier du Orleans in Mesa, or some of those awful touristy places on Highway 74 in Cave Creek. Just kind of meh. The fries are from a distributor, but at least they arrived hot and fresh. The rolls are bizarre, very dense, almost cookie-like. Not that good. However the food arrived very quickly, for what it's worth. But I probably won't be visiting again. For those keeping score, the filet mignon at the Texaz Grill (16th St and Bethany Home in Phoenix) retains the title for the best--and still cheapest filet--in Arizona.

It has been a while since eating at the Cow Palace. Some of the reviews we read were not that great so we were a bit hesitant. However, we ate there for lunch and the food was good and the service was also good. Place was maintained OK, but not great. Probably could use a $100K makeover, but overall I would not hesitate to stop in again.

Excellent! Great food and extremely fast and efficient service. We had the pork chops and bistro steak. One of the best meals in this area. Staying in Green Valley, you don't have a lot of choices. It's definitely worth the 10 minute drive to dine here. Good luck to the new owners! From our experience, you are well on your way.....

They seem to have a difficult time getting you seated, after that the staff can be fine or not so good, now with new owners, they asked for support, well we been going since they took over, this sat we went for prime rib,it was good,I feel it's priced high for the portion, but you get a potato with the rib,if you want a salad it's 3.00 extra,I found that disturbing,we bought one and out comes a small 6 in plate, rewarding your loyal customers with that business model just might not cut it for most folks,$ 70.00 bucks for 2 small dinners with tip,,I. Am out!

I remember coming here a couple of times before but it had been many years so I wasn't sure what to expect when my husband and I met up with my parents and some of their friends here for dinner. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and my hubby got the T-bone steak which came with mashed potatoes and a salad. Our food was pretty good. The servers seemed pretty friendly and the prices were reasonable It seems to be a good place to go with a large group since they have the space for it (even a whole other private room that we mistakenly wandered into) and the basic, all-American menu appeals to the masses.

We have visited the Cow Palace twice now and both times it was fantastic. I really dont understand anything negative people have to say about it. Both times we had parties of 6 or more people, all of our meals were brought in together, they were all fantastic, all the right temperature, reasonably priced and the service was attentive. The portions are so large we usually take at least a quarter to half of our meal home. My extra large teen boys cannot even finish their burgers. If I was going to say anything negative.. all I would say is that they should redo their bathrooms, but I'm sure legislation and cost make that prohibitive. Other than that is a great place to eat. It's very close to Madera Canyon, which is a great place to hike or camp. It has a fantastic western atmosphere and has been around since the 1920s. If you love the Old West, this is one of the very few places in the Tucson area that still hang onto that history. So far we have tried the Reuben, barbecued burger, Mandarin chicken salad, Western dip, & a couple of other burgers and they've all been wonderful

Location: In Amado, AZ south of Tucson off of I-19, exit 48. Easy to find right off the interstate. "Quaint" little area. First Impression: Very rancher style design. Waiting area has saddle's you and such you can take photos with, etc. Very clean area. They had a lot of mounted animals on the wall which I thought was nice but if you don't like that design, this would not be the place for you. I was all about it as I am from the South. Food: The food was excellent. This review would actual encompass the second time I have been here with my family. The service was excellent with the staff being very attentive, ordering went quick and drinks were out in no time. The restaurant was about 1/4-1/2 packed when we went so it was not bad. The food was excellent. I had the "Sunday Dinner" and my wife had one of their burgers. Both of them were cooked very well and extremely tasty. The food was not over-salted like most places would do to cover up bad food. The food was very filling and was what I consider Rancher Style Comfort Food. I want to try the steaks but they are a little on the high side. Although, if the quality of the steaks are like the rest of their food...I'm sure it will be top-notch. Refill Meter (new rating for me): 1-10: 8 They did well coming back to refill me as I am bottomless pit of Ice-Tea when I go to a restaurant. Overall: Would I go back? Definitely yes. The food was excellent and service was great. They even had coloring books for the kids while we waited (not just coloring sheets, actual books). It is definitely worth a shot if you want something a little different from the regular Tucson-fare.

I'd stopped going to the Cow Palace - food was terrible and service matched. But we heard there was new management and tried it out - boy are we glad to be able to add this back to our list of local restaurants. Steak was cooked perfectly to my order and tender. Water and iced tea glasses were kept full. Service was very good without being obsequious. Prices aren't too bad for a steakhouse and we certainly thought it a value. We'll be back!

Yep, it's western in here! Our party of four ordered two burgers, a half rack of ribs, and a small sirloin. Burgers were excellent, fries not quite crispy enough. My friend said the ribs weren't quite done enough--they stuck a little too hard to the bones. The food is standard roadhouse food, nothing especially interesting or exceptional, but fresh and good, a nice break from ho-hum Tex-Mex at many nearby restaurants. Service was friendly but a bit clueless. I had to ask a couple times for water refills, and at the end the waitress asked if we wanted separate checks. We said yes, and no less than a minute later she came back with one check for the whole group. Also note Green Valley hours: they close at 8 pm.

The best Monte Cristo I've had in years. Will for sure be back next time I am in town. Service was quick and friendly, cute western theme. I'm hesitant to try anything else on the menu as this sandwich was that good!

Let me preface this by saying part of my frustration is that I move at 150 mph and sometimes I forget that small town America doesn't... This place was not what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised. What was truly pictured in my mind was a huge restaurant, burn em & turn em kind of place. Instead we found the place quaint and on the smaller side. We say ourselves and the server acknowledged us right away stating so-and-so would be right over. We waited 10 for the other server before the original one came back and took our order. I do no exaggerate the time. I checked in on yelp right when we walked in and used that as a base. The server was so friendly we couldn't be upset. We both ordered burgers: mine was the bacon & blue cheez burger. Wow! Who knew! The burgers are 1/3 pound and filling. There were 3 very large, thick pieces of bacon. No skimping here. In the meantime, the other server was wandering around aimlessly not really doing much of anything whole our server was taking care of everyone. I read some of the reviews of late. We were on the fence about trying this place after reading the more recent ones. I'm glad we did. It was worth the stop and the wait time (remember you are in small town America).

Cow Palace did not disappoint. Had Fish Fry. Lots of food for the money. Bartender Rachel super kind and helpful with menu. Great Margarita. Owner Lynn stopped by to be sure we were happy. Way to Go!

Solid cooking, friendly service. Western, relaxed atmosphere with a wide variety of choices for food. My family consists of gluten free, dairy free, palo, and meatless needs, all of which were met with no trouble and with resounding (read: delicious) success. And there are those of us with a desire for meat - cooked just to my liking (medium rare) and perfectly seasoned. Flavor profiles for many of the dishes are surprisingly sophisticated for a restaurant right off the I-19. But, really, almost everything about this place was beyond initial expectation. If you're anywhere nearby, I strongly encourage you to stop by and check it out. When I'm back in town, I look forward to spending some time in their bar - I saw a number of TVs and the cocktail I tried from my father was tasty.

My wife and I haven't been back to the Cow Palace since it changed hands a few weeks ago. Went there for dinner tonight (Saturday evening). Good food, excellent service. We ordered an appetizer of calamari, which was, by any standard, excellent. Light, very tasty and of good quantity. We both had a clam chowder soup. As we live on Cape Cod for half the year, we know clam chowder! This was a very different (in a good way) flavor from what we were used to. I regret not asking the waitress how the dish was prepared, but it was not like the creamy soups of the Cape or the other, NY style version, which is lighter. My wife had liver and I ordered prime rib. The meat was tasty and the potato that came with the dish was done properly, and served with plenty of butter and sour cream. Service was excellent, with a lot of personal attention paid to each table by the owner as well as staff. I noted that there was a goodly flow of customers coming and going into and out of the restaurant. Keep in mind, Amado is a small, rather out of the way town, so that's a good sign. We'll be going back.

Ordered the T-Bone for $17.99. Maybe the worst steak I ever had. Grizzle. Hardly any meat. Not a good cut. The cut did not contain both sides of meat. Served with baked potato and 3 onion rings. Service was very good.

We stopped here for lunch, and were the first ones in the place. The server was great with a sense of humor to match. the food was great although the special was not that great the menu items were fantastic. Looking for a reason to go back soon. I would recommend the rustic burger.

Stop at the giant cow skull for a thick, juicy burger or steak and even better ambience. The servers are genuinely friendly, quick, and honest about the fare. The burgers are big pillows of charbroiled belly heaven, ranch beans are rich and salty, and all sides are plentiful and no afterthought. The ambience is up my kitschy alley with deep, dark bar booths and dark wood tables on the restaurant side chocked full of colorful geriatric locals who are obviously happy to be regulars. And why not? The Palace doesn't set you back into next week and no better beef can be found between Tucson and Nogi.

I will never eat at the Cow Palace again. It takes a lot to earn one star from me, but this place deserved it. I went there for lunch on a Sunday with my girlfriend. The salsa was awful, with a taste that resembled soap as much as salsa (so don't bother with the chips & salsa appetizer). My salad was forgettable. My green beans seemed fresh picked and maybe even locally grown, but were poorly prepared, bland, and rubbery. The coleslaw, I swear to gawd, tasted like orange juice was a primary ingredient. It's almost like the cook was tempting us to come back to the kitchen and complain. My mashed potatoes and gravy were OK and my chicken fried steak was acceptable. The atmosphere seemed kinda run down and a little cheap. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy divey hick restaurants, but this place just looked like no one really cared. I got the feeling that the owner was milking it for whatever s/he could without investing much in it. For what they invested in the food and the place, the meal was grossly overpriced. On the plus side, the service was crazy fast! Seriously, I never thought I'd say it, but it was arguably TOO fast ... let me eat some of my meal before bringing me the next entree! Overall, it was clean and the service was prompt, but the food was awful, the meal was overpriced, and the atmosphere was depressing and dark. I might go there again if I want to get hammered at their bar and listen to local country music acts, otherwise, I'm never eating there again.

Not too bad; grilled cheese nothing special same w meat loaf. I understand it will be under new management with the people from Amado Steakhouse taking over... I guess they own the place already but they're closing down their other restaurant. Anything will be an improvement for this place. We were only there once, but I'd say don't go out of your way to try this place unless you see some really good recent reviews. There is a restaurant across the street, so if you walk in and this place isn't for you there are alternatives. Kinda.

This visit-not impressed. 25+ minutes to get drinks, sitting here waiting for my food over an hour after sitting down! Here for a benefit, the service has affected my donation! Wouldn't you think they'd be better equipped with service personnel knowing there was to be a fundraiser? Apparently not prepared... Tables served and finished before us, portions we received we're not identical to others we saw when we first arrived at the benefit - will think twice about this place before patronizing again.

I chose the Cow Palace for my birthday dinner. We arrived about an hour before closing so at seven o'clock. It was a little dark and empty so not quite the cheery feeling I had remembered but hardly the fault of the restaurant. The booths were very comfortable and there was definitely a nice ambiance to the place. We received our menus and I was pleasantly surprised by all the choices (it had been some time since I had been there). They pretty much had something for everyone, from crab cakes to steaks. My brother and I ordered an appetizer of onion rings to split and it was just the perfect size for two. I then had country fried steak with gravy and my brother ordered a steak. Both were excellent. The gravy was extremely good (and I've often found it can be hard for a restaurant to get gravy right) and my brother's steak was cooked just the right amount. Their dessert options were a little limited, but I ordered Chocolate Irish Cream Cake and it too was excellent. The waitress was very friendly, the food came fast, but not so fast that you didn't have an opportunity to sit and chat, and in the next room there was a whole other group of people celebrating a birthday, so clearly I wasn't the only person who thought it was a good birthday destination! Overall I definitely recommend it! Great food and good service. I might recommend arriving a little early if you prefer to eat with more people around but otherwise it's a great place!

I live here in Amado and eat at the Cow Palace about once a week. They are one of the best breakfast joints I've been to. Decent prices, great food, and awesome waitresses. When I order eggs over medium, they really are over medium, not crispy and not runny whites. The pancakes are huge and the Mexican food is authentic. The chicken fried steak is another favorite of mine and this place does it right. I have had supper here a few times. The burgers are excellent, but the fish fry sucks. The coleslaw looked like it had been run through a blender and their "chips" were actual potato chips, not fries like I expected and hoped for. The chips were homemade and actually quite good, but I prefer fries with my fish. The fish, by the way, was okay.

This is a quintessential roadside American stop. I first discovered it in my Roadside USA book I picked up in college. It's a diner that has total southwestern kitsch appeal. There's a huge banquet room in the back that stands monument to Elks/Lions/Shriners/Cattlemen or whatever else civic groups are in the area that use it as a hallowed meeting hall. It's just a time warp where you can get burgers & fries, the waitresses will call you hon' and the bathroom stall politely asks you via handwritten note to "Please dispose of all paper in the wastebasket". If you're going down Tumacocori way or even Tubac and want to take your kids to get some chicken strips, etc. then pop in here and relax with the local yokels a little. It's like Denny's with pizazz.
