the food at abuelos was not bad but not good either. it was very heavy so it was to finish.it is overrated. but the environment was pretty great the food quality is a 2 in terms taste...perhaps the cheese masked the flavor due to too much cheese on food. the atmosphere was nice but food is overrated. I did not really like it that much it was not so good.

Abuelo's is our absolute favorite Mexican food restaurant in the area. Superb food and excellent service are the reasons for their success. We have been many times and the servers never let us down. Fresh chips and 3 dipping sauces were placed right away. There is a super hot red salsa, a spicy salsa, and a salsa verde, my absolute favorite which I put on everything. If you want an extra special and awesome appetizer, order the jalapeno fritters which are made fresh daily. (They kind of look like a doughnut hole.) You get 10 of them with a ranch dipping sauce. I could eat them all day long. Each of us orders one of the two large combination plates. We exchange items with each other so it is perfect for us. I always ask for the flour tortilla instead of the corn tortillas. The avocado enchiladas just melt in your mouth. The chili relleno is the best I have ever eaten, including at "authentic" Mexican restaurants. The tamales are awesome as well. The guacamole is smooth and made fresh. We never have to worry about an empty water glass as we get a carafe at the table. What is really great is that there is so much food that we can take enough home for another meal. This is an amazing restaurant that you will fall in love with just like we have.

I've been here a dozen times but now can post a good review! I had excellent service, and our waiter was attentive and not hovering. I could order my dish the way I wanted it. Everything was fresh and not greasy, they have lots of gluten free and vegan options. Even the chips and salsa can come baked and not fried.

Just left Abuelo's, what an awesome restaurant! Loved everything about it. Ambience, staff and good food.

Three salsas with your chips, none of them standout. They all lacked balance and a strong base to define the profile. Chips have a pasty flavor. The Tex Mex food did not taste fresh at all, had that strange texture foods with lots of preservatives have, the meat lacked seasoning and reminded me of Taco Bell in terms of the quality of ingredients. Lackluster and would not go back for the entree. Our 3-yr old said the quesadilla had nothing on Chipotle's quesadilla. Service was nice, though management has these obtrusive tablets with a menu and POS system so you can checkout from your table. For the price point (average, but not fast food by any means), it's a little odd to not have the opportunity to wrap up your interaction with your waiter/waitress with a thank you/have a nice night. You just swipe your card and leave. So that kind of degrades any experience they are aspiring to give customers.

Pedro S is the best, professional, communicator and server . The carnitas tacos and mashed potatoes we're delicious and went well together. My husband enjoyed the Granada burrito and the hanbanero salsa and chips! We will be back!!

  • Jamie Marie O.

The food was good, not many light options if you're vegetarian. The salsas were enjoyable, but most of the food had a LOT of cheese. The service was good, I brought my family here and they seated 7 of us promptly, the server was patient as my niece and nephew were a bit indecisive. The portions were on the larger size.

  • Heather K.

This place was OK. Me & another got enchiladas with various sauces. The rice was thick with tomato paste & the cream sauce had a plastic like sheen to it. Boyfriend got the fajitas & boy was I JEALOUS! They looked amazing & came with a full selection of toppings. He also got the spicy potatos and those were quite good. Happy hour prices looked great & we were seated fairly quickly even in a rush but food came slowly. Oh well, they replenished our chips, salsas and drinks frequently.

We came to Bentonville to visit for a week and guess what, we went to this restaurant three times already. We loved their architecture and their mix drink!!! Swirl strawberry mix drink is my favorite and they even have a larger portion of it. My husband love to order shrimp tacos with strawberry cerveza Martinez, that is a really cool drink as well. Love this place. People are super nice and helpful.

  • Rob P.

Excellent food and drinks. The service was pretty good also; however, our server could have done a little bit better in answering our questions about the menu and happy hour drink specials.

Overall: Average Mexican with a nice environment. Banquet room available for groups. Pros: - Chips and salsa are pretty tasty (free). - You can sit in the bar area and choose to use an iPad to place orders and pay for your meal whenever you are ready to leave. Cons: - Not super Gluten-Friendly. - Crazy parking lot off Walton/Walnut gets a little crazy around lunch. - Less than impressive food compared to the nice-ish atmosphere.

My husband and I enjoyed our dining experience here. The three salsas they brought to the table were delicious. You could tell they were made with fresh ingredients. The manager and waiter we had were very friendly and helpful. The food was good and the atmosphere of the restaurant was very pleasant.

Looking for a nice meal and had a choice of two Mexican restaurants nearby so I asked the hotel clerk her preference. She recommended Abuelo and I couldn't have been more plessed. Great selection from Mexican to tex-mex. Great mojito. Reasonable prices. A little noisy and the service was only fair but the food was hot, good and quick for a Thursday at dinner. Oh, the salsas were the best anywhere, especially mixing the combinations.

My husband and I had the Fajita's for two. Everything, salsa, chips and meal was great.

  • Krystin B.

I am not a fan of tex-mex, and so ordered the more authentic Mexican food on the menu. It was all really good. Everything fresh, great tomatillo salsa, cheese dip wasn't anything exceptional, but when mixed with all the different salsas was better, thin delicious chips, flour tortillas are homemade, rice and refried beans are some of the best I've ever had out. I got a kind of "sampler plate." Chile relleno and tacos were definite stand-outs. Enchiladas and tamale I felt were average to good. 20 minute wait on a Friday night- totally worth it. Lovely restaurant. Huge menu full of choices. GREAT MARGARITAS. We had frozen and on the rocks, but definitely preferred to frozen one. On the rocks was stronger, but frozen had better flavor and was deliciously "fluffy." Very friendly service! We will definitely be back.

So we tried this place a while back and just thought it was ok. Last night changed our opinions. First our waitress, who just quit smoking for the new year was excellent. She answered our questions and gave us some recommendations. Everything was incredible. We both had the fajita chimichangas , one beef and one chicken which were to die for. Definitely can't wait to go here again.

When the Hostess says to you "we are extremely busy so we don't guarantee good service", the restaurant doesn't deserve more than one star.

I haven't been here in a while, however I still regard this as The Best place to get Good Mexican/Tex-Mex (besides Chuys) in NW AR. Great atmosphere and excellent staff. The food is extraordinary. This is another one I Highly Recommend if you're in the neighborhood.

  • Monika S.

Wow great Mexican style food and service!! this is a must for business travelers coming to walmart! Great margies and it's a sports bar. I enjoyed the veggie fajitas and they are not skimpy on servings- plus I happened to be there for my take out while it was happy hour!!

I would rate this a 3.5 if I could. Food was very good and reasonably priced at dinner since we ordered off the lunch menu as seniors. Tilapia Vera Cruz was quite good as was the sauteed chicken dish he ordered. It is nice to be able to order some not so heavy dishes in a Mexican restaurant. This Abuelos is like others I've visited, but they have a good product. The chips are thin and crispy. The three types of salsa are a nice variation. Be sure to check out the mural at the back of the restaurant which is a copy of a Diego Rivera painting depicting Mexican history. Our server was gracious enough to tell some of the fascinating story. The margaritas are good but the shock of the evening was the 25% tax on alcohol - wow, those were expensive drinks!

    (3)
  • Fred R.

Had a very good lunch. Tacos and enchiladas were flavorful. Margarita was good and plentiful. The salsas and chips were outstanding. We are used to California's many excellent Mexican food options. This was definitely one we will use again on a future trip.

Abuelo's is the one restaurant I always visit when in Bentonville for business. The staff is always nice, courteous, and provides great service. The food is fabulous. I have never had a bad dish. My favorite is the firecracker shrimp tacos. Their Sangria is quite good, as well. I highly recommend Abuelo's!

    (5)
  • Patrick H.

I really like the shrimp tacos at Abuelos. I've eaten there several times and by far they are my favorite. Not to crazy about the attitude I got when I asked for a cheese quesadilla.

  • Lisa B.

I'm new to the area, and can't get enough of Abuelo's! Their grilled chicken is awesome. Hand made tortillas. The menu is huge, with lots of variation in choices. One of my favorites already!

i was extremely surprised with this restaurant. We always saw how busy this place was and decided to try it as we were craving a good Mexican eatery. Initially you are given chips with a side of 3 salsas - they tasted like a chipotle habanero, sweet lime verde, and traditional roja salsa. All were delicious and the chips were crisp. I ordered the fajitas for one trio of steak, chicken, and yucatan shrimp. They came sizzling to the table and you're given a choice of what to wrap them in (flour or corn tortillas or romaine lettuce leaves - I chose one of each). The corn tortilla was the best thing I'd ever tasted and I can only assume they make them fresh. The meats and sauteed vegetables had amazing flavor and all were tender, nothing hard to bite through. The lettuce wrap left the fajitas feeling light and crisp. Along with the side plate for toppings, you could definitely make a myriad of combinations. My husband chose the Grande platter. The tamale was the highlight of the dish - again, the corn wrapper must have been made fresh. I have never liked tamales but when he let me try it, I was instantly hooked and decided I must have one (or more) on our next trip. Each enchilada was distinctive in flavor but we felt the beef was the only one that didn't hold up to the caliber of the rest of the plate - it wasn't bad but the beef was lacking in any major seasoning it seemed. The beef taco, however, tasted much nicer and didn't feel like it fell flat. The chile relleno was delicious and surprising as well, like a stuffed pepper with Mexican flare. Overall really great atmosphere in the restaurant, amazing food and service. Definitely looking forward to going back!

We eat at Abuelo's at least once a month. It's a little more upscale Mexican Food. I like the food, but service is nothing outstanding, especially when it cost $15 to $20 a person to eat there. However, the waiter tonight did a good job. He was friendly and attentive. I left him a 20%+ tip. I would recommend it.

    (4)
  • Anissa T.

A really good bet for this area, since we don't have reliable individual-owned Mexican restaurants. I like the fact you can put together your own enchilada combinations and get some different ones - the veggie enchiladas are great. Try the potatoes rather than the rice! Good bar, nice selection of Tequilas for those of us who appreciate the good stuff.

After my review, I was contacted by the General manager of this location and he asked me about my visit. I was pleasantly surprised, as the review wasn't horrible, it just mentioned some negatives. He said that he wanted to have a chance to make those things right and invited my husband and I back to try them again and I am glad we did. When we walked in we were greeted by a friendly smile and seated quickly. The waiter was fabulous, he was attentive and friendly. We ran into a small snafu that was quickly taken care of and the Assistant manager came out and greeted us. It was a very friendly experience. We both had the steak and enchilada plate. My steak was very fatty, but it was rib eye, so that cut tends to have more fat on it. My husbands was great looking and he had very little fat to take home to the dogs. The meat was tender and really good though. We also had jalapeno fritters and queso. We were stuffed by the time desert rolled around but we shared their volcano cake thing anyway and it was great. The only thing that I would change about that would be the strawberry liquid they put on the whipped cream, I would either add a sliced strawberry or leave that off altogether, as it really made no sense to the dessert. It was a great second experience and we are glad we went. They are pricey, but worth it.

Food is usually great. The green pineapple tomatillo sauce awesome! I always get the Durango burrito with papas and black beans. But, my last 2 visits haven't been great. First horrible service. The waiter was a jerk for lack of a better word. We had to track him down anytime we needed another drink, he didn't listen to our orders and we had to repeat ourselves several times each time he was around. My black beans spilled when he was serving us and they did not get me a new serving but left the half empty bowl next to my dinner with sauce on the side on table. I won't be going back anytime soon.

Some of the best in NWA! Had their Carnitas tacos lunch special today and it was fabulous. Good flavor. Fantastic atmosphere. Decent prices for the quality and quantity of food available. I'll be back again.

Waited 30 minutes for a table to then be sat at a table where the waiter didn't show up. After seeing people who were sat down after us we flagged another server. She offered to bring us drinks, but didn't bring. This place is always packed and I don't know why because the three times I have been there the service has been bad and the food is at best normal.

  • Ginny Z.

Abuelo's was delicious as always. We had Los Mejores de la Casa - and it never fails to be one of my favorite meals. Get the dip sampler if you are extra hungry or have a group of 4 or more. It's yummy!

    (4)
  • Mike R.

For starters, chips and 3 different types of salsa is a refreshing change from every other Mexican restaurant. All three were good and I definitely ate more than I should. For the main course, I ordered the shredded beef enchiladas with the papas con chile as a side. They were yummy! Again, something different than just rice and/or beans. Overall it was very good. The restaurant was crowded for Tuesday evening, which is usually a good indication.

  • Cory M.

We were trying to find something for a real nice date. My wife and I are new to the area and there is not much in the town we live in. We were told about Abuelos. We even did the research before hand. Some said they loved and a few said Abuelos was slow. We found that we loved this place. And when we have more money we are for sure coming back. Our waiter went above and beyond. They have there three sauces they offer with their chips. Our waiter took time to make a special one with the mixture of all three. We thought that it was awesome!

Not bad for a Tex-Mex chain. I was pleasantly surprised when we ducked into an Abuelo's restaurant prior to flying home from the tornado alley of the US. The four of us ordered the following - shrimp and steak fajitas, three enchiladas - three different filings, an Abuelo's dip sampler - Queso diablo, chile con queso, and avocado cream, chicken and spinach mini chimi's, and an another dish that our friend ate that disappeared before I could tell what it was! All the dishes came out hot and yummy. The table got quiet for a moment. Most of our dishes came out with many options - I could of ordered from any combination of ingredients for my fajitas - even romaine lettuce for my wrappers, the enchiladas had over sixty different combinations available, a strong selection of starters and small tapas. The salas were very good, hot and ice tea was endless, the wait staff was around but not. I will be back --

  • Cassie M.

I have frequented Abuelo's many times and have tried numerous dishes. I keep going back to the Durango burrito or Sonora. The shredded beef is always tender and tasty. I have a few tips. 1. They offer beans or papas (potatoes) for your side but you can and should substitute espinaca which is a creamed spinach dish with corn and delicious. 2. They bring their regular salsa to the table but ask for the warm salsa as in temperature (and spice) warm. I think they call it Bravo. Very good. And 3. Join the E-club. If anything, you get a buy one get one entree for your birthday.

Have been going here with the fam since they opened this location, and we keep going back for reasonably priced, decent chain Tex Mex fare. Does it taste like something from your Abuelo's kitchen? Probably not, but it's always served hot by a competent service staff, and it's usually out pretty darned fast. It's pretty much a "get what you're paying for" experience. Good value, decent atmosphere, usually great service.

    (4)
  • Stephen W.

Not your place for your standard burrito grande. Abuelo specializes in imaginative dishes from the coats and inland areas of Mexico. I found the food quite good, and a welcome change in Mexican menus. The start-off chips come with a standard salsa and a really hot chipolte version that I happened to have loved (in moderation). When you want a real change of pace with a good quality bar offering, this is a good choice.

  • Isaac C.

NWA branch of decent Mexican chain. With so many more authentic (and tasty) Mexican restaurants in the area, Abuelo's mostly stands out for its clean and spacious digs. (review based on 2 visits) Price Per Person: - $10-$20 Recommended Dishes: - Tortilla Soup Best for: - Group dining; Casual date

  • Brian R.

Great food, cheap prices. Enchiladas are good, particularly the spinach one ad the queso one. I am not a huge Mexican food fan, but like this one and service is always good. my favorite is the 4 enchiladas meal, and I like the enchilada with spinach in it. I have taken a few people here for business dinners since the food is good and can be pretty cheap, and the atmosphere is good

Not your typical Texmex like most Mexican restaurants in the area, although they do have Texmex. The food and service are very good, although usually crowded and kind of noisy.

Great service. Nicely decorated dining area. Food was much better than expected.

For the best non authentic mexican food around, this is the place. For good old Americanized Mexican Comfort food, Abuelo's is the perfect place. The only "chain" restaurant that I eat at with any kind of regularity. Giant portions for a great price. The Agave margarita is one of the best I've ever had. The Grande and the Monterey are enough to feed a small family. Fajitas are always delicious there Hot and Sizzling. Not Authentic/Not Tex-Mex but Delicious all the same. if there were a 1/2 star grading system, I'd give Abuelo's a 4 1/2 score.

This is a very good Mexican restaurant. Service was great, food was great, very clean and elegant. Decent prices. Love the fact that you get 4 different salsas when they bring out the chips and salsa. Choice from mild to very hot. And a green sauce. I will eat here again when I'm in town next time.

Kind of Tex Mex, but kind of really good. I had some corn tortillas with slowly cooked beef and the fixin's. It was really tasty. The re-fried beans were really good - kind of a bbq taste to them. I had the spicy potatoes - which were also very tasty, but probably made with lots of lard or butter. I felt like a beached whale afterwards. Service was excellent.

Had a business lucnh and the food was great, the music was not too loud, but enjoyable. The food was hot and tasy, had the carnitas tacos and they were yummy, so far the best I have tasted in Northwest Arkansas, recommend Abuelos in Rogers

Nice atmosphere and great food. The free salsa and chips were plentiful and delicious. The service was great. Our server offered suggestions and answered our questions. I ordered the mojito to drink. Nice size but average taste. Next trip I will order the ribeye. It's excellent.

The first time I ate at an Abuelo's (in Lewisville, TX), I swore I'd never be back. The food all tasted like butter and I was surrounded by assholes. I rode there with the assholes, so I can't fault the restaurant but still.... So evidently all of the restaurants in Bentonville close at 8:00 or 9:00PM, before I usually even get hungry. Except Abuelo's and a handful of others, thus I gave Abuelo's another shot and really, really liked it. It's a chain, so obviously it's not gonna be really authentic. That's not the point. Go pick up intestinal parasites from a street vendor if you feel like less of a tourist for doing so. Abuelo's has genuinely tasty food and a nice staff. It's not the best Mexican food I've ever had, but it's far from the worst. And if you're stuck in Arkansas, it may be the best within a few hours' drive. The avocado enchiladas with verde sauce are really good. So are the nachos. I've eaten there 4 or 5 times and never been disappointed. My favorite menu item is probably the flan. It's the best I've ever had (not that I've had hundreds of different variations, but it counts for something). So the verdict is consistently good food and service. Depending on who's working, you might get a free dessert if you tell them Balki sent you.

Haven't eaten at this restaurant in awhile so ended up there today. Had my favorite, the stuffed chicken breast medallions. Yummy. Service was good, chips and salsa were fresh and got out for about $12.

More tex mex then authentic but I love it. It's a bit pricey, such as the appetizer Chicken Enchilada. It was $7 or $8 and was 2 tortillas with shredded chicken and cheese maybe with some lettuce and tomato on top. Not sure but I was disappointed in the portion for the price. If you are going for atmosphere over quality and price this is a nice place to take clients or coworkers. There are better places in town if you want value and flavor. Happy hour is $3 beers and small margarita's on the rocks.

This place was pretty packed on a Thursday night and the reviews were decent. I had to wait a few minutes to be seated. I ordered nachos and beef fajita tacos. I couldn't finish both. I did ask for corn tortillas instead of flour but I got flour instead. Fajita steak was very tender and nachos were good. Didn't like the ground beef on them though. Bill came to less than $25 and I even asked for extra pico de gallo and limes and sour cream. The waitress was nice and the other dishes looked pretty good. If I had to go back to AR for business I will definitely go back to this place. Too bad I didn't discover this place earlier. Also I'm really picky with my Mexican food, this place was actually decent considering it's in the middle of nowhere.

HIgh end mexican food restaurant. Nice atmosphere, mostly business attire during lunch. Usually can get out of there for 15-20 for lunch. Their beer selection is ok but they do have some great top shelf tequila. Their queso is a little thin but that is because they have some fresh peppers they put in it. Their beef fajitas are made with a decent cut of beef instead of the cheap stuff.

This franchise happens to be one of my mates favorite Mexican restaurants. I love the one located in Lubbock, TX. I'm not so impressed by the food in this branch. The CHILE RELLENO was adequate, the rice was good, but the beans were too dry for my taste. The service was very good, and the prices are competitive. I can't remember what my mate has ordered, but he had no complaints.

The margaritas are good but the shock of the evening was the 25% tax on alcohol - wow, those were expensive drinks!

i was extremely surprised with this restaurant.

Good value, decent atmosphere, usually great service.

the food at abuelos was not bad but not good either. it was very heavy so it was to finish.it is overrated. but the environment was pretty great the food quality is a 2 in terms taste...perhaps the cheese masked the flavor due to too much cheese on food. the atmosphere was nice but food is overrated.

Waited 30 minutes for a table to then be sat at a table where the waiter didn't show up. After seeing people who were sat down after us we flagged another server. Abuelo's was delicious as always. We had Los Mejores de la Casa - and it never fails to be one of my favorite meals. Get the dip sampler if you are extra hungry or have a group of 4 or more. It's yummy!

NWA branch of decent Mexican chain. With so many more authentic (and tasty) Mexican restaurants in the area, Abuelo's mostly stands out for its clean and spacious digs.

Nice atmosphere and great food. The free salsa and chips were plentiful and delicious. The service was great. Our server offered suggestions and answered our questions. I ordered the mojito to drink. Nice size but average taste. Next trip I will order the ribeye. It's excellent.

    (5)

I really like the shrimp tacos at Abuelos. I've eaten there several times and by far they are my favorite. Not to crazy about the attitude I got when I asked for a cheese quesadilla.

  • Saif T.

the food at abuelos was not bad but not good either. it was very heavy so it was to finish.it is overrated. but the environment was pretty great the food quality is a 2 in terms taste...perhaps the cheese masked the flavor due to too much cheese on food. the atmosphere was nice but food is overrated.

Abuelo's was delicious as always. We had Los Mejores de la Casa - and it never fails to be one of my favorite meals. Get the dip sampler if you are extra hungry or have a group of 4 or more. It's yummy!

NWA branch of decent Mexican chain. With so many more authentic (and tasty) Mexican restaurants in the area, Abuelo's mostly stands out for its clean and spacious digs.
