I'm visiting from San Francisco and Stobys is an old favorite from my college days. Anytime I come to conway, a trip to Stobys is a must. Today I came in for an old favorite... A slice of wedding cake. They were out but the kind staff went over to Patty Cakes next door to get me a slice. The crowded, cramped environment just adds to the charm. The whole town of Conway can't be wrong

For the most part I truly love eating here. I haven't had the pleasure to try a lot of their meals yet, I am so spoiled on their burgers and fries that I usually order the same thing every time I eat here. But I love the friendly staff, and I love the delicious food.

Stoby's is a classic Conway establishment. If you grew up here, chances are you you've been on a date or two at this small venue. The restaurant has changed little over the years and even a few of the staff have been there for as long as I can remember. There's really nothing on the menu that you can go wrong ordering, but whatever you do, make sure to get the cheese dip as that is what Stoby's is really known for.

I am not sure how anyone rates this place other than 5 star. I graduated Conway High School in 1992. Went here in high school. Went here in college while attending UCA. Continued to eat here after going to UAMS. Now I live in Ohio. But every time I visit my parents in Conway, Stoby's is a MUST stop.

Turkey croissant, crispy chicken salad, Clawson burger, french fries...my usual rotation. Breakfast is good and a fun atmosphere. If you live in Conway, you're likely to see people you know in Stoby's. It's not ideal for large groups, but it's fun for lunch with a few friends.

This Conway institution has a loyal following. My husband's grandparents, who are locals, visit regularly for breakfast and lunch. We came for dinner. It was fairly busy but we found both a parking spot and a table. Their famous cheese dip is good. Nothing extraordinary. But after a day of airplane travel and barely eating, a pot of cheese is good temptation. The chips are the bland kind you can buy by the massive bag at a restaurant supply store--no homemade chips here, but they do the job and convey cheese to mouth. My husband had a hamburger and really enjoyed it. Good meat, toasted bun. It even looked pretty. I snagged one of his fries--it was perfectly fried and quite good. I ate the grilled chicken and strawberry salad. It hit the spot. Perfect mix of flavors, perfect size. To counter the goodness of the salad, we ordered a bread pudding to share. I am on a quest to find the best bread puddings in the country. Stoby's boasts that theirs is the ultimate. Um. It needs a major ego check. I was very disappointed. This was the most mediocre bread pudding I have encountered in my quest. The joy of this dish should be in the bread--good bread, with good texture and chunks. There were no discernible chunks here. It could have easily passed for a glazed cake. I can only imagine that it soaked in the milk mix for way too long. Plus, it was microwaved. The positive is that it came out to the table fast. The bad is that it's a thick hunk of breadiness and the middle was still cold. However, I was not going to give up on Stoby's desserts. Folks at a neighboring table were eating possum pie, and I vowed to return for a slice. I read up on possum pie online and KNEW I had to try it. I had my chance the next day. Tip: Call ahead and use the drive through! We ordered one slice of possum pie and had it waiting for us. It was a THICK slice of perfection. I'm happy to state that the possum pie made up for the lackluster bread pudding. That pie is a glorious thing, truly. No wonder it's a regional delicacy. (No possums were harmed in the making of this pie; according to the internet, it's dubbed so because the pie is "playing possum" and hiding its goodness in layers.)

I have eaten at stobys since opened. My daughter and I drove from Little Rock for breakfast and were very disappointed. When I ordered my eggs over easy our waitress said I would not like them and should get them medium. They came out hard. Since my waitress never returned to our table I could not send them back. She also never refilled my coffee. We will not be making that drive again.

This review is for lunch menu. I went here for brunch on weekdays with a friend just because it was closer to where we were going to meet, plus it is local. I ordered Chicken Fried Chicken (came with 2 sides and a piece of cornbread). It was nothing special, small portion compare to the price ($ 7.80 ish). I've experienced better and there are other places that provides better quality & quantity food for better price. Although it was packed, the service was good. There are restaurants that make me think I should have gone to a franchise restaurant and this was one of them. Food Quality: Mediocre Price: Overpriced compared to quality and quantity Service: Good Will I come back: No

We visited Stoby's on Saturday, August 9, 2014, arriving sometime near 3:00 p.m. On the way there, I told my partner that at Stoby's it's all about the cheese dip. Everything else is ancillary. After we had enjoyed a few very ordinary chips dipped into the tasty cheesiness, my partner asked, "What makes this dip so special for you?" Frankly, that stumped me a bit Upon reflection, I decided it was its uniqueness. This dip likely isn't available anywhere else, and I do enjoy the flavor. But her point was well taken. I suppose its greatness resides more in my mind than in culinary achievement. On this occasion, my partner ordered the Petit Jean Peppered-Bacon Cheeseburger and Fries. Idiotically, I ordered the Chef Salad Supreme. As one might expect, I got the fuzzy end of that lollipop. Her burger was very good, and her fries were excellent. My salad, however, was well below average--at best. Instead of the bacon bits promised by the menu, my salad was liberally covered with textured vegetable protein, chemically altered to resemble bits of bacon. Suffice it to say that no hogs were killed in the creation of these horrible little irritants. I spent the first five minutes of my meal in an attempt to pick off as many of these tiny pieces as I could before they dropped out of sight into my salad. Other salad ingredients also failed to live up to expectations. The mushrooms were canned, and the ham was nothing more than a few cut-up slices of below average lunch meat. On the positive side, the Smoked Honey Dijon dressing was very good, but it wasn't nearly enough to make me feel less like an imbecile for not ordering one of the cheeseburger and fries plates. I'll wrap up this review with a couple of recommendations. First, avoid selecting a table by the window. The flies like it, and we had to be ever-vigilant in shooing them away from our food and drinks. Second, arrange your personal schedule to avoid visiting the restroom. It's located in back of the kitchen, right next to the kitchen sink. Fortunately, my visit was exclusively for the purpose of washing my hands, so I didn't have to close the door to this tiny room. My partner, however, was forced to close the door, and she reports that the apparently unventilated room smelled like urine. In short, if one orders cheeseburgers, fries, and cheese dip, avoids the restroom, and sits away from the flies, then Stoby's is a four-star establishment. Unfortunately, this visit rates only three.

Stoby's was a favorite in college, a treat for diverting from campus meal plan. I like the cheese dip and their sweet tea- consistency delicious and fresh. Breakfast is good! Best value and not too busy. Service could be faster, but it's understandable with a small kitchen and a drive thru.

You cannot beat the prices here. I moved from Montana and I have not paid under 10 dollars for a burger and fries in a while. Ambiance: it's a small restaurant so they are often on a wait. I love how it has a old time feel. They don't have a wait list you just wait your turn and when their is a clean table you seat yourself. The food: I have had the Blue cheese Cajun burger. It's served on brioche which adds to the taste/quality. They use beer battered fries and they are very good. I also really like their chilly cheese omelet Service: great, friendly staff.

Well been eating at Stobys since 84 but have never been told the grill was closed at 945 when they close at 10??? Was absolutely refused service??? Perhaps sign should be changed to "We're open til 10pm but only serve til 945"

Everyone raves about Stobys, so when I got a coupon for free cheese dip I decided to try it out. I wasnt thrilled with their cheese dip at all. It tasted like the stuff you make at home and was not restaurant quality and I never ordered it again. I decided to give it another try and wasn't happy. I ordered a quesadilla and asked if I could get it without bacon. The server told me that they came frozen and already had bacon in them. Dude, even taco bell makes their quesadillas fresh! Since then I've eaten there a few time, but only on the request of my friends, and haven't had anything that I liked at all. I will not go back. I really dont see what all the fuss is about. The food is ok at best and not worth the price.

For tourist visiting colleges I do not recommend. It is an average cafe that needs more employers. I felt rush when trying to decide what to order. Their burgers where big, salad was ok, but the cheese dip wasn't great.

My service was fine, but the food I ordered tasted mediocre and made me lose my appetite. The experience I had came from ordering off the dinner menu though so maybe the breakfast items taste a-lot better. Still not going there for dinner again though.

Love the veggie omelets! This is my absolute favorite spot to get a hearty breakfast, and I adore all the vegetarian options. The service itself varies depending on the waitress you get (one time our food was forgotten and we ended up taking it to go), but overall the food is well worth the wait! Good coffee as well.

My husband and I have heard nothing but praise for Stoby's. We moved here from out of state and finally gave it a try on this random February night. The place is small, with only 10 booths and 6 tables. We got there a little after 5 before the busy dinner hours and we're glad we did. It filled up pretty quickly when we were there. It took a long time to get our food. Way longer then it should have been. But our food was delicious, so it was redeeming of the time we waited. My guess is that they bank on customers getting their famous cheese dip for an appetizer. We didn't get it but everyone else that came in did. We're not from the south but it didn't take us long to figure out cheese dip is a big thing down here. Maybe next time we'll give the cheese dip a try. I got the Bacon Cheeseburger. It was very good and came with delicious fries with a crispy outside and soft inside. My husband got the Tuna Pita. He enjoyed it and said it was very good too. Overall, it was a good experience. A little slow, but the food was excellent. And cheap! It was $15.00 for our meals. Not too bad. We'll be coming back for sure.

This is a genuinely unique place to eat and while funky on the space and decor, it is worth it. The breakfast is fantastic and the superhot Jamaican jerk burger with cheddar is to die for. The strawberry yogurt and banana based smoothie is fantastic. I worked there 20+ years ago and it is the only restaurant that i worked at where I was still pleased to eat there after seeing how the kitchen worked. The stoby is a great sandwich. I am not a fan of the cheese dip, but i dislike that style of cheese dip entirely so you might like it. It aint fast-ever. Get over it. Conway has plenty of fast crap if you are in a hurry.

Not sure what to think about a place that serves lunch, but does not start cooking until 12 noon. We wasted an hour out of a vacation trip to get there at 11 o'clock, since most restaurants start lunch at about that time. We were quite disappointed to find that unless we wanted cold cuts, we would have to wait another hour. We decided to go ahead and eat the cold cuts anyway, which were not that good and a good bit over priced. We did try their "famous" cheese dip - I have had better out of a jar, to be honest. The dining area is very cramped and has that grimy, Waffle House atmosphere to it. In addition, the booths were uncomfortable and hard to get in and out of. I still do not see what the great attraction is to this place. It is difficult to get to. It is dirty, grimy, and cramped. They have a weird lunch schedule. Their overpriced food is not that good. The service is really dull and unhelpful. I really wish we had went somewhere else. There is no need to return to Stoby's for another try.

All the locals seem to love this place, but I was less than impressed. I'm not giving a lower star rating, because I was the idiot who ordered a salad, not a burger...I was trying to watch the calories! The burgers were highly recommended and everyone in my party who ordered them were pleased. The sweet tea is awful! Seriously, yuck. The salad was fresh, but nothing reinvented. I'm not from Conway, so probably won't be back, but it's a local favorite and was packed with lots of fat, white folks...always a good sign.

I frequent this place often considering it is right down from the college and they have nothing less than amazing food and wonderful staff. Love being able to go in here and have a great lunch and be comfortable in a restaurant without feeling out of place. Highly recommend this place to everyone!!! If you haven't tried it you really must!! They have great prices on their food and you can tell its made with lots of southern love!!!

I was not impressed. Service was just okay. The cheese dip was good- not great. And the "small stoby" sandwich was the plainest sandwich I have had in a long time. Nothing particularly memorable for me.

Average, run of the mill, overpriced food. Nothing really spectacular except for the cheese dip and even that's a little overrated.

hope im not killed by any locals, for ii am one, but i think stobys is just pretty good. My wife likes to go here, but the only nights she can talk me into going is monday or tuesday nights, bc kids eat free!! The cheese dip is waaaaay over rated to me!!!

I went to stobys for the first time today. I wasn't impressed. The food was very pretty, but I didn't care for anything but the waffle and coffee. And I had the big breakfast with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and biscuit&gravy. I was happy I got the waffle for my little girl cause it ended up feeding both of us. I might try out dinner sometime, but never again breakfast.

My sister dragged us here one day after visiting my grandma. I wasn't expecting much, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I liked the cheese dip, but like everyone else has said, it's not Mexican, but it goes down great just the same. The three things I loved about Stobys : 1. Sweet tea, ( it's my favorite thing about eating in the South). 2. The fried chicken sandwich, it is the juiciest, best fried chicken sandwich I have ever had in my life! and 3. The Italian Creme cake. Wow! I have never had that before, but it was the cake that I imagined that I would have at my wedding. move over red velvet cake, you have been replaced. I have to give this cake 4 stars because it was something that I was not expecting and it hit the spot perfectly at the time. Maybe if I went back and ate there again it wouldn't hold up, but it earned a nice space in my heart for the meantime.

Stobys is my favorite place in town to get a hearty breakfast or delicious lunch anywhere from pancakes, gourmet sandwiches, smoothies, milkshakes, chicken tenders, juicy burgers and ofcourse you can't forget to try their famous CHEESE DIP! even sold in the local walmarts. this place is quaint and cute and a great atmosphere! All the waiters are so nice and friendly and great service! Good prices too!

Tried the breakfast..got the Stoby's Breakfast for $7.99 which had two eggs, toast, two sausage patties and a side of grits. Each day has a special. Tuesday's it's $4.99 Omelette day. I can't say it's the best I've had but it filled me up...

This was a go-to my college years. The cheese dip, which is raved about and sold locally in Walmart and other groceries isn't a "Mexican" cheese dip-so don't expect that. It is decent though. I always appreciated the ol' standby of grilled cheese and chips. The place is crowded though--that little lookin house is little.

  • Eli F.

The cheese dip is just okay. Not great. Restaurant is too small and wait time is long if you're there for dinner. Food is okay, at times bland. Breakfast is better than lunch/dinner offerings.

  • AJ S.

No its not a trendy coffee shop and no its not vegan friendly, but who honestly expects these things of a non chain restaurant in the south. The sweet tea is great, if you like your food spicy the Jamaican Jerk Burger is phenomenal, and the fries have got to be my favorite part. It is almost like the fries are breaded, everything you would want from a fried potato. The breakfast is amazing as well, deliciously fluffy pancakes and thick salty bacon. Stoby's is way better than any other burger place in conway. count yourself lucky you have the choice.

How can I live in Conway and not review Stoby's? As others have previously state, it's a Conway favorite. The cheese dip is it's claim to fame, and is pretty good but not worth a trip just to have it. The menu is chock full of different items, ranging from salads, soups, quesadillas, burgers, sandwiches, and desserts. I usually order the BBQ chicken quesadilla (hold the green onions, please). It's always delicious, even if it is a little too spicy for my taste. The burgers are tasty, but I definitely wouldn't consider it a burger joint. The homemade pies are always tasty, especially the chocolate! And the Mexican Punch is definitely a staple for me, and anyone who enjoys a fruity beverage with their meal. I was going to give the review 3 stars, but the breakfast here bumped it up an extra one. Fabulous. Tasty pancakes, biscuits & gravy, sausage patties & grits! My friends love the omelets, but eggs have never been my taste. The only drawbacks are the tiny, overcrowded space that is the restaurant, which is why I avoid peak times & rushes - and the prices. They charge a bit too much for the product, mainly because of the restaurant's popularity. All in all, it's a tasty place to go, especially for breakfast!

  • Kellie M.

Positive - great cheese dip. Negatives - expensive usually have to wait for a seat and the past 3 cokes I've bought there and brought home have had a gnat in them. I'm sorry I realize it's summer and sometimes this is going to happen but 3 times? That's disgusts me.

The food at Stoby's is very good. They have basic sandwiches for lunch and dinner and a separate grill menu at other hours. Items on the grill menu are also very good. Their cheese dip is awesome. No other restaurant cheese dip comes anywhere close to Stoby's cheese dip. They also have great desserts, such as chocolate cheesecake. The pricing is very reasonable, and the service is usually very good. Some of the "associates" have been there for multiple decades! My only complaints are the small parking lot and small restaurant (with a small waiting area). These issues are why I gave Stoby's 3 stars instead of 4.

Stoby's is a local favorite, and it is always packed. This is a small restaurant, and you'll be hard pressed to find a time to visit when there's more than one booth available. The parking lot is also small; it seems like Stoby's has outgrown their space. The food there is actually very good. The steak grinders are always made well, and they are different than your average Philly Cheesesteak, perhaps because they make their own cheese. The only problem that I have with this restaurant is the service. The waitresses are always extremely busy because it is packed, but to compound the problem, it seems like every single one of them moves in slow motion. The restaurant and workers all seem to have the "hippie mentality," in both their actions and choice of attire. The food is good here, but the help is lackluster, allowing us to make Stromboli's our go-to restaurant in Conway. The food is equal quality, but Stromboli's also offers pizza (which Stoby's doesn't), and they do not seem to pick their employees up from Haight Ashbury, which is a plus for me.

If you want long lines and average food at average prices then this is your place. As many of the Yelpers stated, it's known for it's cheese. Well, color me surprised. I have had better cheese from much worse places. Add some hotsauce and some chocolate Yohoo at 2 am after a long night of drinking and it is awesome. Other than that, make your own. If you are one of those types that must visit local well known mom and pop places and experience the lure of what once was, then make your way here.

  • Laurie G.

It's not a place to go if you're in a hurry but Stoby's quality is always wonderful! The menu is pretty diverse for a place that size...and unlike some...I love the size of Stoby's...If it was bigger it wouldn't have the same feel.... It has good atmosphere!
