I didn't expect the food here to be as good as it was. The cheeseburger wasn't too greasy and was so filling! Fries were piping hot and yummy. It's the first and maybe only burger joint I'll go to in T-Town.

    Great gyros!

Nice place. Went there twice. First day I had Falafel plate, second day I had Falafel Sandwich. (I'm a vegetarian). Good food. Reasonable prices. I would recommend giving it a try for sure.

    Ribeye wrap. Nuff said.

Let's get the basics out of the way first. Nothing in particular is excellent here, the décor is basic at best and there is not a whole lot on the menu that is good for the waistline. Nonetheless, Hooligans is one of our favorite places. They are open late (a rarity in this town), the service is quick, and the food is fairly reliable. Stick with the loaded potatoes, the bottom half of the wrap menu (big yes on the falafel and the gyro wrap, big no on the turkey), the plate menu and the baba ganoush and you will probably end up pretty happy. They do take out, so call ahead when you get the tummy grumblies at 10 PM.

One of the only restaurants serving late near campus (save Quick Grill, which just I'd rather not). A few definite items of note: of course, you'll be getting the mint sweet tea, a sort of unholy union of Southern and Middle Eastern refreshment sensibilities; falafel to french fries (with a heavy dose of that seasoned salt) are usually well-crisped; the plates, with such proteins as gyro or chicken kabob, come with salad, rice, tzatziki, pita, orange slices--a pretty solid meal. They just "expanded," which involves tables back by the bathroom, but I've remarkably never had a problem, even at their busiest, finding a seat in the small dining room. If you're a fan of quick Mediterranean, there's no reason not to dine there.

My husband and I were in Tuscaloosa visiting my sister, and the three of us had lunch at Hooligan's. It was just okay. The restaurant itself was small, and a little on the dingy side. That's not necessarily a bad thing exactly, as it gave the place personality. The atmosphere was pleasant, and we beat the lunch rush, so it was okay in that regard. My sister and I had the gyro combo, and hubby had the cheeseburger combo. Food portions were huge, and they make it right when you order, so it was fresh. We probably only had a 5 minute wait before the food was brought to our table. However, my biggest complaint was the food itself. It just wasn't all that great. The meat and sauce in my gyro was just kind of gross. I've had delicious gyros elsewhere, so I was disappointed in Hooligan's version. Hubby's burger was burned too. I think I'd like to try other places in Tuscaloosa before I ventured back for another visit.

One of my absolute favorite restaurants in T-town! Family owned and are usually working there cooking the food and are always pleasant. Everything I've eaten here has been great. No complaints. I love their falafel plate, wraps, tabbouleh, fries, hummus, and of course their mint tea.

Food is alright. Nothing to die for. I wish I could give higher rating but the Service is unacceptably rude and the owner/CHEF is complete prick!!! Note of advice, good business is all 90% how you treat your customers

Great mix of American and other traditional food. I love the owner, the guy always hooks me up with fries and a drink. Their sweet mint tea is exceptional. Philly wrap is to die for.

For a little hole-in-the-wall Greek place, it was delicious! The gyro wrap was great. And the stuffed grape leaves appetizer was amazing! The tzaziki was one of the best I've had. Would go back.

Four stars because Hooligans is more than a great diner-type joint (love red formica booths) serving great burgers and crispy crinkle-cut fries. They also serve tasty Mediterranean fare including gyros, baba ganough, dolmades, felafel, and more. The service is friendly, the prices are right, and the food comes out quickly. What's not to love? Oh, don't judge its size by the front room. There's seating in the long corridor that leads to a large dining room at the back. Looking forward to a return visit soon.

I worked at this place from about 2005-2008 while I was at Bama, so let me say I've eaten a bit of food from this place. As much of the food as can be is made on site - the baba ghanoush, hummus, chicken marinades, falafel, and so on are all made right on premises by the same people serving you. They go through a ton of food, so absolutely nothing has any time to get old. As far as kitchen cleanliness goes, the place is washed off with bleach every single night, and by the time the staff leaves, everything is sparkling. For those who have been to the mediterranean claiming they've had better......no shit, huh? It's an awesome joint to grab a bite to eat before hitting the bars or taking a final, not an exploration of Mediterranean culture and cuisine. If you want something fancier, be prepared to pay fancier prices. The whole goal of this place is to be a straightforward place to grab some food. They're open all day and well into the night, the staff work hard to make food that's tasty and reasonably priced, and get it to you fast. It's a bit of a dive, but every time I go back to T-town, I absolutely have to swing by.

One of my faves in Ttown. The wraps are great and the price isn't too high. I recommend this.

Hooligans is a bit of an anomaly as this quickly prepared, greasy Mediterranean restaurant seems better suited for the Bronx than downtown Tuscaloosa, but all the better, as Hooligans is nothing short of delicious. As the preceding paragraph (and some other reviews) suggests, Hooligans is not a "proper" Mediterranean experience, but instead a delicious, spice-heavy guilty pleasure featuring everything from burgers to gyros and baklava (a wonderful Mediterranean sweet best eaten for desert.) Surprisingly, the burger really is one of the best in town and, despite my proclivity for a ketchup and mustard only sandwich, I ordered my burger with everything as per advice of the owner. I was not disappointed. As for the gyros, I find some much better than others, but that's more a matter of preference than an indictment of the offerings in this category, I'm sure one can find a favorite without too much struggle. An important aside: The prices have been steadily creeping the last few years, hopefully they've found a price-point they find sustainable as I'm personally not willing to have my price-sensitivity tested any further, no matter how delicious the spice-coated fries.

Pretty good Mediterranean place. They have a lot of variety, going far beyond your standard gyro or cheese burger with seasoned fries. Overall I like their food a lot, and if you like places like Purple Onion, or Al's in Birmingham, this place is very similar. Only issue is that most Mediterranean places (or at least the majority of ones I've been to) are open late or even 24 hours. This would be a perfect late night munchies/drunk food place. But then again, considering all the s**t-shows that stumble down the streets of Tuscaloosa after closing down their respective bars (guilty as charged) I wouldn't want to run a 24 hour business either. If I could give it 3.5 stars I would. Good food, good service, nice people. Try 'em out.

You won't regret it! Burgers with no ketchup and it tastes grand! Fried Okra! Delicious!

I had a bf that loved this place which is why I went to it more than once...I remember they over season their fries and the food is blah. Nothing special. I was unable to find a satisfactory mediterranean place in the state of Alabama. I was looked but never found anything.

Grabbed a quick double bacon cheeseburger and fries here on a Monday night. Quick, easy, and a decent burger. Good fries too. Nothing special but an easy diner stop in Tuscaloosa.

This place is one of my "must go" places whenever I'm in Tuscaloosa. They have a lot of hidden gems on the menu (BBQ chicken potato, greek salad with chicken, ribeye wrap) but you really can't beat their cheeseburger with fries. The burgers are big and greasy (in a good way, of course) and the fries are crisp and seasoned just right. Other highlights include the sauteed mushrooms, falafel, and definitely the hummus. SO MUCH GOOD. Just go already.

No better place in Tuscaloosa for Mediterranean food. Everything here is sure to please, though first time eaters may need a few visits to find just the right dish for them. I've had falafel at many a restaurant in the state and I have to say Hooligan's has the best by far. It's almost like an addiction and you need another hit. The prices are really good and you get a fair amount of food for it. I've found most of the staff to be very friendly as well. Though they don't deliver, they're just a short walk from campus. If you're too lazy to make the effort, then you don't deserve the good food.

Dirty restaurant with gross food. I don't understand the hype over this place. I've gone a few times and ended up hugging the toilet the rest of the night.

Thoroughly enjoyed this place. The pita club wrap was good - I would have substituted Swiss cheese if I had it to do again though. My husband's gyro was yummy. Kids fare was the standard chicken fingers and grilled cheese, but it fit the bill and was very well prepared. Price was super reasonable!

Pros: -Excellent food all around (the gyros are my favorite) -Generous portions -Friendly, fast service -Great outdoor seating Cons: -Location is a bit small -Doesn't deliver Bottom Line: Hooligan's is an excellent place to grab a quick and tasty bite to eat for a great price.

$4.50 for a cheeseburger and fries....and a very delicious loaded cheeseburger at that. Prices here are awesome and designed with the student in mind. Its cheap, the gyro's are amazing, and the staff is super nice. What more can you want?

I've never had anything here that was swimming in grease and I eat here regularly since it is the only restaurant close to where I work. They have good burgers and gyros. The gyro plate is my favorite and is gyro meat with rice, a small salad, and tzatziki. Very crowded at lunch, especially when the university is in session. Call ahead for takeout!

The food here was so great! My husband had the Turbo Gyro.... He ate every bite! Their Lentil soup was so yummy and Vegan! Their hummus was wonderful and they accommodated my request of veggies instead of pita! Definitely a place to try!

Good food and great prices. Best Cheeseburger in town. I know that sounds weird but it really is. It has caramelized onions and add some bacon (yes it's turkey bacon) you won't be sorry you did. The Gyros are good to if you want some good spit roasted meat and a cool refreshing tahini sauce with crunchy onions and tomatoes.

We had falafel and gyro wraps. His with fries, mine with baklava. Fries were crisp. Baklava was crisp with a nice amount of honey. Yummy, fresh, reasonable prices.

I had an enjoyable lunch at Hooligan's. I ordered the Kafta Kabob Plate which comes with Greek Salad, Hummus/Pita Bread, rice and Kafta. The Kafta was very salty, the rice seemed a bit tough and maybe undercooked, the salad was mostly iceburg lettuce, the Hummus was good. That being said, I really like the atmosphere and attitude of the restaurant. It seems like almost everybody else was ordering burgers...So, I am totally going back for a burger...who knows I might just bump up to 4 stars
