The staff at Mary's is friendly and always helpful. They'll answer any questions you have and make suggestions. If you come in after they've made an newer item or just cut portions, you will probably end up with a sample. Mary's offers a daily lunch special which includes a drink, dessert, and sandwich/salad/entree for approximately $5. I love their short bread cookies. Not only are they tasty, they are always beautifully decorated. Mary's has also come to be my go to for any celebration cakes. They have yet to disappoint for flavor or decoration.

This is an hidden gem, I just happen to stumble upon this place and it decided to give it a shot. The Bite Size Nutella Pecan Cake was amazing, the strawberry truffle was crunchy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. Everything was amazing and I'll definitely be going back!!!

I was married in Tuscaloosa in May and Mary's Cakes created beautiful mini cakes for my guests. I was planning the wedding from San Diego, so I was never able to come by and see any of their work, but they came highly recommended, so I went with them. I sent them an internet link of the mini cakes I wanted and, when we showed up on the wedding day, they were perfect! Exactly what we had envisioned. I highly recommend Mary's Cakes!

I cannot possibly rate this place highly enough. I always enjoy stopping in here when I'm in the Tuscaloosa area. Just one point off because they rarely have the French macaroons I love so much. But that's just a personal star, and this may not be an issue for you. :-) (Granted, the problem is I'm always in on Saturdays, and they make the macaroons early in the week.) There are always wonderful things in the case when I go in, and I never really know what I'm going to find. When I went this weekend, they had a German stollen, and I could not pass that up. My bride to be picked up two loaves of bread that were given out free, as they were a day or two old. They were made with spent grains from a local brewery, which is a trend I like to see in small local bakeries. Mary is a joy to speak with, and tells us lots of interesting information about all of the baked goods- like the intricacies of making the macaroons, and what sort of pastry dough and technique goes into the stollen. I always look forward to a chat with her when I go into the bakery. Off to the right side, there is a little second hand shop that has kitchen gadgets and cook books. If you're someone who enjoys cooking, do not pass up wandering through here.

My entire family loves Mary's. Not only can we get great cookies and pastries, but the cakes are some of the best. The designs never fail to disappoint and they taste as good as they look. My 12 year old has attended "cooking camp" for several years and has loved every one of the different sessions. My favorite part about Mary's is the staff and their commitment to their customers and their community. Mary gives back and that is why I will continue to support this locally owned small business.

The cake shots were really good. I particularly liked the lemon cake shot -- like a marriage between a lemon donut and a lemon cupcake. Excellent. The strawberry cake shot was good, too -- like strawberry shortcake topped in strawberry icing. The chocolate was good but very rich and dense. The shortbread cookies were good -- they were shaped like pies the day I came for National Pi Day. I highly suggest you get something to drink as this stuff is pretty rich. Also, check out the bakery consignment shop, where they have pie pans and the usual things, along with a table of "weird" gadgets. Great place, great employees, and they make beautiful cakes, too.

I think I've sampled everything in Mary's bakery since I moved to Tuscaloosa a few years ago. And everything I've sampled has been divine. Of course I have my favorites, like her Bread Pudding (served at special events) and the Gelato. The cookies are tasty, the cakes are tasty and beautiful. Tuscaloosa/Northport is lucky to have this great little bakery in our midst.
