This particular restaurant has been plagued with variation....in an industry that demands consistency. When the manager is there it is a 5 star place. His surrogates vary a lot. My best advice is check at the door. Is the head manager around?... If not... Find another place. If he is there it will be superb...

Decent restaurant, but if you are not an Italian fan, this isn't the place for you. Out of 6 times, fully half of the meals were sub standard. Try it once, but I can't recommend this as a regular eatery...food just isn't that good and its not consistent. Rather costly too for the quality..

Staff members are amazing. Portion sizes are huge. Unbelievable value for the price. The restaurant is always clean and inviting. They have an opera singer that will sing happy birthday in Italian. I'm told the new Romano's Kitchen Counter (Fast Casual lunch option) will be available very soon. I love this restaurant so much I'm going to have them cater my wedding!

I was looking forward to eating here as I've eaten at a Macaroni Grill before and remember it being very good. This time the food did not disappoint however the service was mediocre at best. I don't understand how a restaurant can be nearly empty and the service be horrible? And since when is ground pepper with olive oil a dipping garnish for bread? The entree was delicious. I had the Sausage Vesuvio and it was very good. A touch on the spicy side but not enough that you're reaching for your drink after every bite. The food was good but doesn't compare to the Carraba's down the street.

Great lasagna, chicken Marsala cooked well but could have more flavor. Service was excellent.

This is a decent Italian chain place. Bread is provided at every table (sometimes even when you ask not to have any), and the food is good but what you'd expect for a mid-scale American chain restaurant. Lunch entrees will run you $12-$25 or so. If you get a seat in the bar area or by a window on a sunny day, you should get decent lighting, but otherwise it's a little bit dark in here. My mother-in-law hates how dim the lighting can be in here, even complaining to the wait staff about it (As a side note, she's a dietitian, who says that "ambient" dim lighting is a trick some restaurants will play to be able to provide lower-quality food, so I think that explains why she complains so much when the lighting gets too "cozy" to easily read the menu.). For those of us with younger eyes, though, there's really nothing to complain about other than the noise level when the place is full.

One of the worse restaurant I've ever been in Mobile. The food was cold and took ages to arrive. The appetizer never arrived and the waitress was very busy running back and forward; every time she passes to our table she says "It is coming..." Honestly I think it was not her fault but upper management's. I will never come back to that place

Great customer service. Lady who worked the bar was very attentive and pleasant. Flatbread pizza was really good...which os expected for a Macaroni Grill!

This place makes me want to cry. Went there for a friends birthday and the food was just pretty awful tasting. Plasticy, watery sauces and overcooked pasta. Whatever you do don't get the lobster ravioli thing. Or the chocolate cake. Also the manager came and sang happy birthday all by himself, which was so awkward I nearly died. I don't understand why all the food was cold. Every last plate. I didn't have high (or really any) hopes for this place, but it was even more lackluster than I anticipated. 2 stars for the service which was actually very good, they even offered to reheat our food and take some of the most offending items off our bill, but we declined both offers. It's not really their fault. Macaroni grill in mobile is just blaaaaah.

I've eaten here several times. Each experience has been consistent. Service is great, food comes out in timely fashion, and waiters not hiding out. I've have several dishes: penne rustica, chicken parm, pizzas, etc. Each dish has been great. This place has nice seating areas and bar area. I've never seen extremely large crowds where your wait time is over 15 mins. Overall, this is a nice place for a decent meal.

My husband and I had dinner here about 2 weeks ago. We have been here before and dinner was outstanding. But this time, not so. First they wanted to seat us right by the kitchen door and we asked if we could sit somewhere else. Well I can tell you that they had an attitude about this. Out waiter acted like he was doing us a favor to wait on us. Had to wait about 15 min to get tea, then the waiter got mad because we asked for out tea! What a jerk. Our food was horrid. I got the Italian nachos and the chips were stale and the ravioli was so hard, I could not eat it. My husband go the meatloaf and he said it was just okay. The waiter saw I didn't eat my meal, and said not a word, just took my plate. Never will I go here again.

I've eaten here a handful of times so I haven't had all of these dishes in one sitting. They bring a loaf of Rosemary flavored bread to each table with Olive oil and freshly ground black pepper as a dipping sauce. The Goat Cheese Peppadew Peppers are wonderful little bites to pop into your mouth. The Spicy Herb-Roasted Mussels are wonderful and could be a meal unto themselves, a bit hard to share this appetizer. :-D Make sure you save some of the rosemary bread to eat with the mussels, the crostini they serve with them is good but I find that I prefer the rosemary bread. The Mushroom Ravioli and yummy and rich in a cream sauce. The homemade chocolate cake is criminal it is so good and rich.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews for this place. I have been here twice I'm the past 6 months and both times were great! Our waiters and waitresses were very friendly and very attentive. The food is delicious and it was a great atmosphere. Our waiter Tony was great this last time! Funny guy and we felt like we were his only table. Great place!

Had a recent family dinner here and we all enjoyed our food choices. I had the Chicken under a brick. There is a photo of it on this site. It was very good. DH had the Chicken Marsala that I tried that was very good too. One of our guest ordered a salad as their meal and had to wait for it. It did not come our until we were all mostly through with our our food. We felt bad for her. The bread and oil and pepper kept her busy but...still.

When it comes to Italian food we love coming here. My family and I decided to spend our last evening with my oldest son, who was moving to Salina, KS the next day, at one of our favorite restaurants. It was a Friday night and unusually very low volume. Normally, you drive by this restaurant and the parking lot is packed with cars, but this night was not at all. Anyhow, for the most part the food was very good. At least we were not disappointed in that area. However, the one the that we always enjoyed about Macaroni Gill was that the staff was always so friendly, helpful, and attentive. Even on a busy night. the wait staff has always been outstanding, however, on this particular night our waiter acted as if we were an annoyance than customers. He barely came around even when my husband showed up late. His tone wasn't at all friendly and he didn't even suggest much which is something I enjoyed as well. I still give them a 3 despite the service we were given because they do have excellent food that I recommend you try.

So I was on business to Mobile, AL last year, and expected it to be pretty dull. Go in, handle work, fly out in a few days. From the airport to the hotel, I couldn't help but notice that Mobile was a pretty bustling little place. I mean, Airport Blvd pretty much looked like a strip mall with shops EVERYWHERE. I think there were like 2 or 3 malls on one strip? hahaah..I pulled up to the hotel and snickered because directly across the street was the strip club. Tha's when I knew that Mobile would be an alright place. HAHAH. On my 2nd night, me and a bunch of the fellas went out across the street. NOT to the strip club you pervs, but to Macaroni Grill. Now I'mm HUGE pasta fan, but I do know good pasta when I taste it, and trust me folks, IT'S HERE. First we started off with the Romano sampler. It had mozarella fritta (mozzarella sticks) and calamari all with a marinera dipping sauce. The calamari was fried perfctly and the sauce served with it was creamy and decious! They're fettucine alfredo? MAD GOOD! Cramy sauce with a good consistency. Tender noodles and w/ trips of white meat chicken. Plus the waiter walked around with a cheese grater kinda of thing and drowned my plate in mozarella cheese. OOOOH-WEEE! I was loving it! My friend had the penne rustica w/ shrimp. The prosciutto was all up in the penne pasta and made the thing ridicolously good! we both ordered 2 to plates to go so we could enjoy it later again, but with chicken instead. My other homie had the Seafood Linguine which was OK, but a tad bit too salty for our taste. But the veggies on the side were cooked just right so all was not lost. He ordered the Penne w/ Oven Roasted Chicken to go. This was also an amazing dish, and he pretty much eneded up eating that instead of the shrimp plate. No desert, we were stuffed already. BUt this was definitely one of the better italian spots that I've ever eatne at, and Ive been to spots in Boston, Cambridge, Chicago, SF. So a solid 5, and if you ever find yourself in the south, try out here! Good Eatin!

OK Ok.... I will say that I did love this place once upon a time. The day started off bad. I would say that there was about 30% occupied, but my family of five was given a table right next to the glass kitchen wall, right near the entry and exit from the kitchen. Also, the table was lopsided. After being ignored for around 20 mins, a waitress asked if we wanted to order drinks. We declined. The wait person assigned to our table placed a bottle of water on our table, and at this time I ordered drinks for my children. After 10 mins they were on our table. This would be the only time that we would receive anymore drinks......not one refill was offered to our table. We placed our order and about 20 mins later the fried mac and cheese appetizer was on the table. I will admit that it was very tasty, but our other appetizer didn't arrive for an additional 15 mins. So here we are an hour into our meal....with no meal.... The manager is barking orders behind the glass trying to get the over worked cook staff to comply, to no avail. We keep getting bumped by the wait staff coming in and out of the kitchen.... with no food. Our waitress is more involved in conversation than in checking on our order... and did I mention that it was my BIRTHDAY. Macaroni Grill offers nothing for this inconvenience. Ok so after another 20 mins, our order starts to come out in portions, and after 10 mins everyone has their food. My sons $6 pizza has seven or eight piece of cheese, and four pieces of meat, which I would not let him eat because the cook blew the flour off the pizza with his mouth....WTF....ugggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I ordered the trio plate....and everything tasted like VOMIT... it was green and burnt and completely dried out from being under the warmer for 10 mins.... my daughter nor I touched our food, and my husband choked his plate down. The waitress asked if the food was good, I said no... it is nasty, and she said sorry, and kept talking to coworkers. After getting a $60.00 I paid and left a $1.99 tip for the poor service and horrid food. After this I will NEVER return to this place again.

I made a reservation for Romano's Macaroni Grill for a Friday night date with my wife. We both love Italian, and for a chain they have it down! I had the mushroom ravioli which was very tasty and very rich. My wife opted for the 3 course chef's meal, included salad, entree and desert. Her salad was good, her entree was Chicken Cannelloni which she loved, and we shared her desert, Smothered Chocolate Cake They also serve a nice warm loaf of bread with olive oil to start the meal, and even on a very busy Friday night, they got us out in plenty of time to make our movie time!

We'd heard good things and decided to check it out. It wasn't busy at 4:30 pm when we arrived, and it took a moment or two for the girl to notice we were there. She was pleasant and seated us right away, bringing us our drinks, a loaf of fresh bread, and poured out some olive oil and herbs onto the dipping plate. We placed our orders and the salads soon arrived. They looked quite fresh and nice, and I was pleased until I found a long blond hair in mine. I showed it to the girl, and she fetched away the bowl and brought the manager. He was very pleasant and concerned. I wasn't interested in salad anymore, and so they removed it from our bill and brought more really fresh bread. It was good. My entre was the eggplant parmesan. The large hot plate was brimful with several thick, meaty slices of eggplant, covered with a nice marinara and cheese, and a helping of pasta. It was quite good, and worth the $10.99 they were charging. On the whole, I would say it was a good dining experience, and despite the faux pas of the hair in the salad, we'd be willing to try them again.

Josh was a great waiter. This was our first visit. The food was amazing. I had the chicken parmigian and my wife had chicken fettuccine Alfredo. The angel hair pasta they used with the parm was superb. My wife's chicken fettuccine was seasoned perfectly. We got our kids a cheese pizza and some mac and cheese. They ate it quick.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
