Excellent food! I had the fried seafood combo with shrimp and grouper. Food came out exactly how I ordered it, and everything was fresh and hot! I had a side of gumbo which was as good as I've had in Birmingham.. My server was Randy. He was very knowledgable about the menu and their specialties, and did not steer me wrong. I give the service 5 stars as well as the food. I will definitely be back soon!

Incredibly casual strip mall spot...handful of dining tables and a very small bar. Loads of seafood options (fried, boiled, grilled, blackened, etc..) including a full bar. Not sure why, but the full bar surprised me. The ambiance is lame, so don't go here and expect a wildly good time! But go here if you want to enjoy some delish seafood. We started with oysters on the half shelf and not only were they reasonably priced they were tasty - fab way to start the meal. I would consider these as my own meal next time - no sharing ;-) Our party of four ordered a variety of things as entrees.. soft shell crab po'boy, stuffed shrimp special, crab cake platter and the 5 meat seafood combo (so we could try it all) Between the four of us, we ate most of the seafood combo, but for me personally I enjoyed it all except the oysters (included; gator bites, calamari, grouper, craw fish and oysters). I like oysters, but I guess I just don't enjoy them fried. Others at the table enjoyed them though. All the food was fresh and well prepared. Po'boy was good ,but likely not to be ordered again, stuffed shrimp was a hit as were the crab cakes. All portions were good size and the price point was reasonable for fresh seafood - we prob won't rush back, but wouldn't hesitate to go back.

My husband and I ate here tonight for the first time. I can't say enough how amazing it was!! How did we not know about this place before now!? We had the shrimp quesadilla for an appetizer which was awesome! For dinner I had the snapper special and my husband had the stuffed grouper. Both were delicious and prepared to perfection! The portions were hearty. The presentation beautiful. The service was as good as the food. Our waiter was so friendly and extremely informative about the menu choices. We will definitely be going back!!

Long wait... But the food is really good. I have been here numerous times but this is my first time on Valentines day! The fried green tomatoes stack is very good. Crawfish étouffée is very good but I think mine is better, lol. This is a very small place so you need to be prepared for the wait. When you go make sure that you allow at lest a minimum of 30 minutes. They really need more tables or a larger location for the current service demand. If the used their patio service during the winter it would make the wait time shorter. They could add a couple of gas patio heaters and increase their service by 30%. All in all it is very clean and the servers are a little frazzled but friendly. They really need to solve their size and staffing but it is very good Cajun food. A little pricey for the portion sizes but you pay for fresh seafood. You won't go wrong with the crawfish étouffée, red beans and rice or the jambalaya.

This review is for SERVICE ONLY The manager is not particularly nice, approachable or friendly. I wanted to watch the SEC baseball tournament on the SEC Network - when I asked if they could put it on the waitress politely told me they did not get that network. I overheard the manager say "We're not concerned with that until football season." I get it. Just thought that was a bit tacky within earshot of the customer asking. I ordered the grilled oysters and they were really good. However, when I told the waitress the crackers were stale, she replied "Yeah. We've had a cracker problem lately." Ha! I guess so. Not sure I'll come back but the food is pretty good. It's just not ALL about the food.

Wow. Let me tell you. Read the reviews while in town and came here. Got the grouper bites as appetizer, and very good. Got the fried oyster (Bayou Oyster) platter, with coleslaw and seafood gumbo as the sides. Oysters delicious, coleslaw very good, and seafood gumbo will buckle your knees. Buddy with me got the cream cheese pudding for dessert and said it was awesome. I got another Hurricane for dessert, and it was great. Waitress we had, had such a great personality and was on top of everything. Highly recommend this place.

Tried this place for a date night and it was awesome. I can't remember the name of my huge platter but it was great. It had crab legs, shrimp, and crawfish all perfectly seasoned. My husband had grouper and it too was perfectly cooked. He also had the chicken gumbo which got rave reviews. The grouper finger app was also a do over, they were so tender. We will be back for sure.

Best Seafood Around We went with friends who have been urging us to dine here for months. It was everything they described it to be and more. The oysters were exactly the right size and quick fried, crunchy, and delicious. Crab bisque was wonderful, not too rich, just right. Fried green tomato appetizer was crunchy with a little crabmeat on top and a delicious sauce. Red beans and rice was delicious, with plenty of sausage and flavor. Hush puppies were delicious with little kernels of corn inside. Great service, good atmosphere. Don't let the strip center fool you. This place is top notch! Great menu with only seafood plus chicken. Crawfish, crab legs, boiled shrimp, etc...... We will be back.

One word can describe my experience at this restaurant, DISAPPOINTING. Traveled all the way from the Roebuck end of town to try Jubilee Joe's after reading the reviews. I am a seafood lover and I always enjoy chargrilled oysters and good crab cakes. Well, not the case here. First of all, it's very important to greet customers when entering your establishment, didn't happen, I had to make several employees speak. Second, hire more experienced bartenders, who actually know how to make a margarita. Third, our oysters were way overcooked, teeny tiny, and not that tasty. However, the crab cakes were actually pretty good, thank goodness something was! Service mediocre, server appeared nervous for some reason. Didn't seem like a friendly, diverse environment in my opinion. Seating is a little cramped. Just overall disappointing. Won't be back anytime soon, if ever.

Absolutely fantastic!!!!! Everything about the meal was fabulous. I had the stuffed grouper and my wife had the crab cakes. Cheddar potatoes are unbelievable....... Definitely a hidden gem!!!!!

The food was great! Except the portions were tiny for the price you pay. The presentation of the food was lacking. If I'm going to pay $20 for a plate of food I would at least like to see it dressed properly. My family ate there yesterday ,Mothers Day, and the server acted like he was on something. Bouncing from table to table, rushing our order, sweating, and being very forgetful. Now, I understand he was busy, I have been a server before, but it was very distracting. He did not have any safe tred shoes on, therefore he almost fell a handful of times. The busboy was taking played and drinks from the table when we weren't even finished with the meal yet. Needless to say I will be spending my money elsewhere. The food was awesome, yet small, but the prices were too high for what you get.

Love it love it love it!! Should have been wrote a review for them I've been eating here for years and have never had a bad meal or service. They truly have the best gumbo in Birmingham. Great chowder, great alligator, great blackened - anything , great pastas, shrimp and organic grits. You can close your eyes and pick anything on the menu and I am absolutely sure you will enjoy it.

Pretty good! Service was fast and attentive, however I went when the place was not busy. The establishment was clean. The atmosphere was pleasant. The food was good. I'm not a Cajun food expert, but it was good. I loved the red beans and rice - plenty of sausage, flavorful, and delicious. The hushpuppies had kernels of corn inside, which is fantastic. The boiled shrimp with the cocktail sauce was a hit. I'll be back.

The food was pretty good. We tried the fried green tomatoes (4/5), Not so Crazy boil (3/5), and wild shrimp platter (3/5). We weren't crazy about it, but we might come back for the tomatoes and cheddar mash potatoes.

I checked in the other day while dining at Jubilee Joe's and when I next logged on to Yelp, I was surprised to find I've never written a review for this place. You know, if you haven't tried Jubilee Joe's, please do. It's really very good. They recently added a few more tables which is great because let me tell you, if you haven't eaten here, you're in the minority. It stays pretty packed. I'm a big fan of the grouper but everything I've had has been very nice. Often we'll share an app and have a couple of beers. it's the perfect neighborhood joint for something like that. Friday and Saturday nights the whole little shopping center is hopping so bring the kids, bring a date, whatever, but give it a try, you'll like it.

Perfect evening for all involved! It was not divulged that it was my birthday until the end of the meal yet service was like family! Fresh, sizzling, well seasoned charbroiled oysters as an appetizer. Ice cold draft beer to cool it down. Oh, let's not forget the crawfish is available in 1,2, or 3 lb. servings! They were neverending and well seasoned / cooked. Stuffed shrimp are delicious too. I'll let you visit yourself to find out what was for desert ;) You won't be disappointed!

We love this place! The shrimp and grits are the best, but they are only served as an appetizer, wish they would make a meal of it. The fried shrimp is good, and so is the shrimp bisque! My husband loves the gumbo and has had the fried oysters and gator tail. Always a great meal and a great experience! We highly recommend it!

Good food is emotional and this place taps all the right senses. From top to bottom a class act and the best Cajun seafood ur gonna find around here. It's not over hyped, it's earned stellar reviews for a reason and after u eat here u will find out why.

If you can put up with the inconsistent service, you are rewarded with good, fresh seafood. Their shrimp an grits has been a standout. Very casual place. I would trade some of the friendlyness of the service for speed and accuracy. On various ocassions it has been weak service.

I'm a cajun/seafood fanatic. Crawfish season is highly anticipated by my tastebuds. Needless to say, I was pretty excited to see that Jubilee Joe's was near the house and served all of my favorites. We arrived at around 6:45pm on a Sunday and were greeted by a very sweet, yet frazzled hostess. She informed us that there was a wait, even though there were clearly open tables. At some point, there was mention of them being short staffed. We were eventually seated and taken care of by our overly nice, yet very frazzled waitress. The whole process took a short while and we finally got our food a few minutes before eight. No big deal. In comparison, that amount of time was not abnormal for a busy restaurant. Then... Even though the door was unlocked, the hostess began informing new customers that the restaurant closed at eight. Minutes later, the background music came to a halt and any extra lights came up. This was a bit awkward, because we had just started our meal. At this point, the manager came to the cash register at the front of the shop and began handling a credit card issue on the phone with a rep (LOUDLY). It was really awkward. What made it extra awkward, is that he was telling the credit card rep how bad members of his staff were. He was oblivious to the fact there were still customers around, attempting to enjoy a delicious meal. I'm not easily offended and wasn't, but I must point out that he was also cussing and us the ol' "GD." Feeling like we were the drunk college kids that wouldn't leave a bar after last call, we scarfed down our wonderful food. The food really was fantastic, so I hate that we didn't have a chance to enjoy it. The manager should note that the employees he was publicly throwing under the bus, were some of the good points about Jubilee Joe's. His behavior was the reason for my, very rare, bad review.

I went in at 11:30a on August 9th with a party of TEN! The entire table was handled by a single waiter and the service was just fine, now granted we were there early and the lunch crowd had not begun to build but for my first visit I was 100% satisfied. I had the Crab cakes with the Crab Bisque (yeah i was feeling crabby) About three others had the crab cakes as well. Usually when sitting in a large group, if there is someone who doesn't like something they will speak up. No one did, everyone had nothing but nice things to say. Many, like myself had never been to JJ's in the past and we were happy our host suggested it. The Bisque was wonderful, not just a sprinkling of fresh crab, it was in every single bite. Well made and presentation was great. I don't know how the crab cakes held together being so jammed with fresh crab meat, I would expect that with so little binder and so much yummy crab they would have fallen apart but they fared well. All the food was absolutely delicious, if you had to put a gun to my head for a negative comment, there were some small crab shell pieces in the crab cakes, which to me is just a sign of the real deal. I have had worse crab cakes with no shell and if I had to decide, I will take a few bits of shell and a yummy crab cake over a bland "shell free" cake anytime of the day!! Now that I know this place is here and so close to my office, I expect to be back once a week because the prices are very reasonable. Like $12 for the crab cakes and the bisque! Awesome value!

ORDERED: Seafood Extravaganza + Hush Puppy Side. VERDICT: YUMMY. MAIN DISH: The pasta/seafood dish is great. Shrimp + sausage + maybe crawfish tail? The portion is just right. I didnt leave bloated. Comes with two pieces of french toast. Yum. SIDE: I ate the hush puppies. Best Hush Puppies... maybe ever. Smaller than normal, crunchy. I dipped them in the ranch-like sauce that came with my father's "Joe's Chips," so you might have to ask for that. I haven't had such delicious food in a while, especially around Hoover. There's not much around this area compared to Birmingham, let alone a cajun place. PRICE: I think it was like $12.99 or $13.99 for the dish/toast/one side. Worth it!

The food is delicious here, but this time the service was terrible. I called in a to go order, and arrived 15 minutes later to pick it up. I waited over 45 minutes and never got my food. They were short staffed and the computers were down, but they should have said something to us.

OMG! Not only was my fish fantastic, their Bread Pudding in purely sinful! I could have it everyday and be a happy woman! The service was excellent, too! Enjoy!

Jubilee Joe's is a local restaurant that specializes in fresh seafood dishes. It has been opened for only a couple of years, but has quickly become a popular Hoover restaurant. The restaurant is small and crowded. On a recent visit it appears they have closed the seafood market and are making room for additional dining tables. The seafood dishes have a Cajun style. They offer a variety of fried seafood, pastas, and boiled seafood (including crawfish when in season). My last visit I had the Blackened Talapia. A large fillet is served on a bed of fettuccini that is cooked in a spicy crawfish sauce. This dish was very good, and I would not hesitate to order it again. I also recommend the Bob's chips that are served with many of the dishes. These are homemade potato chips, and they are very delicious. Service can be somewhat slow, but the food is good. Jubilee Joe's location is a little off the beaten path, but is definitely worth the trip.

We went to Jubilee Joe's Sunday after church. We were afraid it was going to be busy but surprisingly enough it wasn't. This is not the first time we've been and just like the previous times, we were not disappointed in our food. We got the gator bites appetizer and I wanted to fight hubby for the last bite. The meat is tender, the breading crispy and the dipping sauces are awesome. I had the Chilean Seabass and thoroughly enjoyed it. It comes piled on top of mashed potatoes and spinach. The spices were just right and the fish was flaky and tender. Hubby had the fried shrimp and as always, they were cooked to perfection. If you haven't tried this place I most definitely recommend it. I can't imagine that you will be disappointed.

I am not a seafood fan at all but my husband is crazy for it and we have been on the hunt for good seafood in the Birmingham area for a while. Well, it does not get any better than Jubilee Joe's and add to that it is actual Cajun cooking not just wanna be Cajun cooking. My husband was thrilled best meal he has had since we've been here. The food looked and smelled so delicious even I a non-seafood eater was impressed. I loved the chicken Marsalis that I had perfectly seasoned and cooked. Finally, a restaurant that is not afraid of FLAVOR! Loved it...loved it...loved it!!!!

Food and service were great and the prices where reasonable. I had some great snow crab for $13.99. The atmosphere isn't the best as it's more like a sandwhich shop but everything else was great.

  • Ken C.

If fresh crawfish is what your looking for this is the place to be (in season). Prepare yourself though the service is suspect most of the time. Prices are fair. Hands down though, this is the best in Birmingham. They cook your crawfish fresh to order unlike other places who cook large pots once or twice a day.

My wife loves spicy food, so we decided to go here for a late lunch. It was not that busy so that was a good thing. Atmosphere is a bit different, you have tables and booths to sit at. We sat a table close to the tiny bar area, The time we were there they had some sort of beverage issue. The wife had the tea, which was ok at best... i had the sweet tea.. again it was ok.. I had the seafood gumbo and my wife had the jumbalaya... mine was good but not great. It did taste authentic, grit and all :) To me the food was a bit overpriced, but there is no lunch menu. Over all i would say this would be as close to authentic cajun food as you will find around... It is worth at least one try and you decide.

  • Michael H.

I eat here often. It is not high end seafood, or really Cajun, but it is a good replica. There are lots of choices and the service is usually good. Try the gumbo!

    (4)
  • Cheryl M.

I went for lunch, which maybe was a mistake because there really is no lunch menu so portions are dinner sized and so are the prices. We had the gator bites for an appetizer, which were good but not the best we ever had. I had the jambalaya for lunch and my husband had the seafood gumbo. Both were good, but nothing to write home about. We will probably eat here again for dinner at some point but no rush.
