Biscuits are very tasty - more like a minature corn muffin Ribs were hot, juicy and meaty - some of the best I've had The turkey was ok - little on the cold side, and somewhat dry - prob in a warmer

I've been coming here for years. This place is always delicious. Sweet tea, corn breads, and bbq ribs & chickens can't get any better than this. Love this place.

Jim 'n Nick's never disappoints and after planning the AL BBQ tour, this was legit the best meal we had the entire trip - so good that I went on my own before the husband landed at the airport. Their ham is beyond tender and every side dish is better than the last. My server, Chase, was super nice when I was there by myself and I was literally in and out in under 30 minutes!! I seriously wish someone would bring this to Chicago!

One of my local favorites. I'm not one to order something as simple as chicken tenders out, but with their honey-mustard... it's hard to resist! Check out the downtown location for an even better menu and experience!!

Just a warning, the "biscuits" aren't biscuits. They're mini cornbread muffins. But they're really good! I don't think they make buttermilk biscuits. And great news, they have a DRIVE THRU too. I tried a combo of ribs and chicken. I don't think the meat is dry seasoned. I believe it's all wet. The sauce was pretty good. I should have asked if they have something spicy. The mashed potatoes and Mac-n-Cheese were great. They offer white or brown gravy. I'd like to come back, try out some other dishes.

Jim 'N Nick's got my co-worker's and my business simply due to proximity to the hotel where we were staying, in town on company business. I've had bbq at other non-chain places in Birmingham that run circles around Jim 'n Nick's. But for what it is, it's not bad. I ordered the JNN Bar-B-Q plate with turkey breast, sides of baked beans and slaw. The amount of turkey was generous, sliced fairly thin but was served on the cold side, definitely not hot. The sauce was okay. I preferred the sauce bottled at the table to the stuff they dressed the meat with (it was thin and resembled ketchup). I sampled a small taste of their spicy habanero bbq sauce and it packed quite the punch. I'm too whimpy for that! Two small ramekins on the side for the beans and slaw. Beans tasted like they were from a can, slaw was okay, a bit tangy which was nice. The little corn bread muffins were tasty and plentiful. Next time I'll have to remember the bbq joint by UAB that kicks booty and take my co-workers there for some real 'que.

Great Bar-B-Q! We tried this place after a suggestion from some business associates. I'm glad they made the suggestion. I had the smoked turkey and it was awesome. Great cheddar biscuits were served before the the meal. I highly recommend!

Jim 'n Nick's is my favorite barbeque restaurant in Birmingham. I pass by this restaurant on my route to work everyday. On many mornings I can smell the wood burning smoker cooking the food for the day. The smoked pork is delicious. I usually get a pork plate or an open-faced sandwich. The signature barbeque sauce is sweet and tasty. My friend orders the Pig in the Garden salad, and she uses the sauce as the dressing. The barbeque chicken is also very good. The Baked Bean are awesome! They are baked with brown sugar seasoning and pork trimmings. The homemade cheese biscuits are also awesome. This is easily a five star rating.

After trying Jim 'n Nicks in Destin we decided to hit this one on our way home to Illinois. We are hooked. The bar b que sandwiches, sweet cheesy muffins and sweet tea hit the spot.

I'm generally not a big fan of chain restaurants but I do enjoy this one. This location is the original and flagship store so it has the best quality of all the other stores I've been to. It is hard to duplicate bbq across several stores versus burgers or something of that sort but Jim n Nicks pulls it off. This is definitely up-market bbq with cloth napkins, good silverware, etc. It is the complete opposite of a traditional style bbq joint like Dreamland's in T-Town. The sausage links, pimento cheese, and fried catfish are some of my favorite things on the menu. The homemade lemonade is terrific along with the desserts. It's a very good place to take out-of-state visitors to let them experience good BBQ while in nice surroundings.

As an old Carolina country boy, I'm as particular about my BBQ as they come. You've got to start with a hog, and you got to cook it over hickory at a low temp for a lonnnng time, and baste it continuously with a vinegar-based sauce. It better be moist, and it better have all the flavor it needs without any sauce. Jim 'n Nick's looked promising; their menu even claimed to cook BBQ in the time-honored tradition. Wish they did. Unfortunately, the pulled pork was not too much more than a roasted shoulder with some hickory flavoring. Couldn't determine if was real or bottled. The real problem was that it was dry (i.e., so much for being constantly basted over low heat). As for sauce choices, I realize that once one gets away from the Carolinas there is little hope of finding a mustard-based sauce. But, the two choices here were sort of strange- a habenero-based sauce that was hot, but without a lot of flavor. And a tomato-based sweet sauce. C'mon guys, I thought you wanted to be known for BBQ. And, while I can't recommend Jim 'n Nick's for BBQ, the Red Brick Ale was pretty good, and those cheese muffins are an absolute don't miss. They cover a whole world of shortcomings on the BBQ front. And, the service was quite good.

On the upside: great draft beer selection 420 and yazoo tasty!! Super friendly staff. Plus the free cheese muffins ooohweee!! Downside: ribs, mac, baked beans...nothin on Russell street BBQ in pdx. Expected more out of a southern BBQ joint! Bottom line, come for the atmosphere, smoky scent, bevys and muffins. But lower your expectations.

It's not the best bbq i've ever had by a long shot but it's consistent. The bbq is average the service has always been good. However, the cheese biscuits are the best thing on the menu. That alone is worth the trip

Beware of the drive thru!!!! Whenever we go in- great food! Every time we chance the drive thru- total all out nightmare! Prepare to be trapped in the line 15-20 minutes and then when you get to the window make sure the receipt has the correct items listed before they hand you your food. Do NOT leave the window before you check the bag because my husband has had to drive around and get out to get fries or sandwiches left out the last two times we've gone through. The order was wrong the time before that....

went here yesterday with a friend/colleague--had eaten at J&N's a few years ago when i had duty in B'ham too--at a downtown location. chow is very good--all of it. had the beef brisket, very tender and flavorful all the way through--just enough sauce to compliment the smoked meat which i could eat by itself. sides: had the cheese/macarroni & baked beans--cleaned both bowls and my plate. girl i was with had the 3 sides combo--like the mac/chees & baked beans but wasn't too hot on the creamed spinich. server offered her something else instead, but she didn't accept. looks like they had some good desserts, but the meal was just enough to fill me up without stuffing me. not what type of bar-be-que they do at jim & nicks--but it's the kind i like. also got a cool J&N's t-shirt--all they had was sized smalls--guess i'll have to figure sumthin out about that. like to go back evertime i'm in b'ham.

Went through the drive thru here today for my first visit. Food was very good and the cashier at the window was very nice. Took a little while for the food but that was understandable since I ordered a well done Dave burger. Their lemonade is awsome! Would like to eat here again soon.

I am going to invent BBQ incense. The smell of smoked meat is magical. It never ceases to draw me in like a bee to honey, or a bear to honey, more likely. The Comedy Club at the Stardome booked our rooms right next door to Jim 'n Nicks, meaning the smell of carnivorous heaven began to drift through my balcony window every day before noon, stirring a Pavlovian need. Needless to say, my buddy and I ate there multiple times. The first visit was put off a but by a snippy waiter, but the food was really good. I had the double stack sandwich...brisket and pulled pork. Of course, I had to order slaw as the side...no self respecting BBQ aficionado would ever dream of biting into a pulled pork sandwich without the crisp tang of slaw. And the slaw was good...the meat smokey and tender. I particularly liked the Habanero BBQ sauce (so much, my broke ass sprung for a take home bottle). I will say, it was a bit pricey, but not enough to keep us from repeat visits. They start you off with these cheddar "biscuits" that were soft and cheesy goodness. On repeat visits, I found the tacos to be disappointing, the service improved greatly, including Mr Musta Had A Bad Day from the first lunch and an incorrect order was replaced promptly and they took the charge off the bill. All in all, not too shabby for a mini-chain BBQ place. I also saw that they donated food and time to the Tuscaloosa tornado victims. I will definitely eat here again.

We visited some friends in Pelham and they had this waiting for us when we got to their house. The pork ribs were pretty good, the slaw and beans were good, but the biscuits were simply AMAZING!!!

Picked a tragic day to go out and eat. After the devastating tornadoes that we just missed we wanted to get out and decided to try Jim'n NIcks because it was so close. They are ALWAYS busy and it seemed like understaffed as well. So we waited by the door for awhile and after about 5 min got noticed. No biggie. Our server seemed to have an entire section so needless to say we didn't get to try the bread (which is amazing that i tried later and equally unhealthy!) I just ordered the Hickory Grilled Chicken Sandwich with no mayo. It was juicy and delicous. I didn't eat the bun because it's my way of not feeling guilty about eating all my chicken :) I had a side salad and it was delicious even without any cheese!! But I'm biased because I am an avid salad/ lettuce lover! My husband had the same thing and ate the whole thing and got the mashed potatoes. He loved the potatoes and he is oddly picky with mashed potatoes...really reasonably priced if you want it to be. It was a nice evening after such a natural disaster.

I recently returned to the southern US for a trip and could not wait to try some good food I've missed. Jim 'n Nicks was recommended by a friend. I was in the mood for some good down home BBQ and I was not let down. I ordered the BBQ beef brisket. Out of this world. I am headed back next week for a business trip and I will most definitely return. A+

I have traveled all over the country and usually try a BBQ place in every city I go to. And I have to say this is one of the best I have ever been too! I love the sampler meats and the BBQ sauce is just like I like it. If you are in Birmingham you must stop by this great place!

Two things distinguish a BBQ restaurant - great baked beans and amazing cole slaw. I found both of these at Jim 'n Nick's in Birmingham. I know when a restaurant passes muster because I want to visit twice during a 24-hour business trip. That would be dinner my arrival evening and lunch my departure day. The pulled pork was amazing, too, but a lot of times meat is variable based on a lot of factors. Sauce and flavorings are unique and often do make or break a restaurant. I liked this place. I thought the beans were good and spicy. The pulled pork was good. The hot sauce featuring habenero was good and kicky. The cole slaw was my favorite. Absolutely delicious and perfectly seasoned green cabbage, carrot, green pepper, black pepper, and just the right amount of dressing and salt and sugar. I could eat just this side dish at this restaurant! Very good and definitely worth a visit. Yelp was right.

If you eat at the Hoover store, do yourself a favor and go inside! The drive-thru will serve you the garbage that they wouldn't dare serve any of the dine in customers. I dont understand what's up with this location, since neither Trussville nor 280 do this. C'mon Hoover, get your act together!!!

Yeah, okay. Had stuffed potato with BBQ brisket. Not stellar really, but solid okay. A decent four star more or less.... What lost the other star was server trying to what felt like move us out since the crowd was coming in. While taking a bite she came around and asked if she could "clear" my dish; I still had a few more bites left. Lots of BBQ options. Would I go back because it tasted great, probably not. However I don't think you'd leave disappointed either.

Had dinner here last night. As I was visiting Hoover from CA, I wanted some legit BBQ. Went with a group and had a great time. Crystal was our server and she couldn't have been better. I love food and have a difficult time steering away from Brisket or Pulled Pork. When I asked Crystal what her favorite was, and she said the Turkey, I was a little thrown off. Taking her suggestion, I got the smoked turkey plate with collared greens and mac n cheese. That turkey with white sauce was damn amazing! My friends who had the brisket said the turkey was better. The cheesy cornbread rolls were phenomenal as other's have mentioned. Yelp did me right again.... One star deducted for their sweet tea.... it was pretty bad. It's obvious they use their tap water to make the sweet tea. They both tasted pretty fowl. My recommendation is get a good filter for their water and I'm sure it'll get better.

We had family in from multiple states due to a death in the family. We needed a place that could accommodate our group, including a child who needed special accommodations due to an ongoing health issue. Jim N Nicks Riverchase not only took a reservation for our large group, but they seated us on time on a busy Saturday night, and treated us like royalty! Crystal, our server, was wonderful with explaining the menu items, as this was a first time visit for all but 2 of our group. The service was prompt, and we were amazed by the team work of the staff. They work together like a well oiled machine! Among us, we tried a little bit of everything, and had nothing but wonderful things to say about the appetizers, meals and desserts. At such a stressful time, it was wonderful to be able to take a break and enjoy a meal together as a family, and have such excellent service and food. I highly recommend this location! Mike B and his staff certainly know how to run a great location. Also a shout out to Abby F, who assisted my disabled brother with any questions he had and never made him feel uncomfortable.

This is about as upscale as you can do BBQ and still have the down home feel of a "joint." As was pointed out on House of Cards, people want the authentic feel without having to leave the suburbs. Well, it is not the all the way authentic feel, but for a chain with as many menu options as JnN has, I say it cant be beat. You wont leave from here smelling like you have been tending pit for hours but the meat has all of the flavor of that low and slow cooked goodness. The sides are always quality as well. My favorite sides are fried green tomatoes (only on Monday), collard greens, and mashed potatoes (the brown gravy is GREAT). The cheddar biscuits are free when you dine in and are worth the purchase if you are getting food to go. Ask for the honey butter and slather it on baby! When eating my meat, and eating my biscuits for that matter, I like a mix of the habanero sauce and the regular sauce and I ask for sauce to be brought to me from the kitchen so it is still warm. I stick with the BBQ favorites like pulled pork (if you get the sandwich get it on sourdough bread), brisket, and baby back ribs. My wife loves the turkey club. Many of my friends recommend tacos on Tuesday, pimento cheeseburger, pig in a potato patch, and pig in a garden. The bourbon selection is outstanding! This location has a pretty good selection of local beers on draft too - five or so. I recommend the chocolate pie for desert too

Over the weekend, my in-laws were in town, and my father-in-law really wanted some ribs from Jim 'n Nick's. I guess we were in the mood for some mayhem because not only did we choose the Montgomery Hwy location, but we also selected Saturday noon as the meal time. The food was good, but we had an adventure with the service. Beware of the following service variables when you go to this location of Jim 'n Nick's: - Being seated inside the restaurant in front of the door leading to the patio. Not sure why they put a table in this high-traffic area. Blocking the door to the patio is a great place to meet new people...if you're into that sort of thing. - Having the table-of-eight in your server's section. Your table will get noticeably poorer service than the eight-person table. My father-in-law asked the server if we were going to be waited on anytime soon, and she finally wished each of the eight people well and turned her attention to us. - Having a server who wants to practice her order memorization skills at noon on Saturday. Our server asked and repeated each of our orders three times. It made us nervous about what items we would get, but by the time the food came, we didn't care what we got.

Absolutely the best bbq i have ever had! They make everything from scratch , they do not even have a freezer. Had the two meat combo-pulled pork and baby back ribs accompanied by baked beans and mac and chees(the cheesiest and creamiest ever!) The pulled pork melts in your mouth! they have a habanero barbecue sauce that is amazing. I cannot wait to visit bham again to eat this scrumptious an absolutely delicious bbq!

Drive thru snafu. Oh, think you're doing a good thing by calling ahead so that you're order is ready when you go through the drive thru? Think again. It's not possible to pick up to go in the drive thru. You heard me not possible. The whole reason I picked JnN is for cheese biscuits and a DRIVE THRU so I wouldn't have to wake my sleeping 4 year while I picked up dinner on the way home. Apparently there are 2 different computer systems. After I asked for an exception because I wasn't aware of this small but *crucial* detail, the drive thru girl offered for me to go around to a To Go parking spot and a bar staffer would come out with my order. Well, 5 minutes later here she comes with my food. As I tip and hand back the receipt she comments that she won't get to share the tip with the bar staff. Oh?! Really?! Am I supposed to do something about that? Let's talk food. It's good, not breathtaking but it is tasty. I think it's all $1-2 more than it should be, but hey they've got to pay for 2 different computer systems.

The biscuits with honey butter were yummy! I didn't like the pulled chicken nachos though my husband and friend did. I got the ribs with Mac and cheese and collard greens. All of which were ok. My husband got the brisket and he said it was ok. Our friend got the half chicken which he really likes. The waitress was ok, not the friendliest but came by a few times to refill teas and check in! There wasn't a wait on a Tuesday night at around 7.

Dinner June 9 I have eaten now at 6 Jim'n Nicks and have eaten at this regional chain at least 50 times in past 18 years and I have never had a bad meal. This is my all around favorite BBQ restaurant period. Why? 1) they raise their own hogs that they serve -- who does that? 2) they make all their sides, no one makes better baked beans 3) homemade cheese biscuits 4) homemade desserts 5) they even make their own pickles Nothing frozen or microwaved here folks! Don't believe fat ole me, Ask to see the mgr and have them tell you how honest their kitchen is.

I am not a big BBQ lover, but the fam bam is, so of course we had to sample some local grub during their visit. We stopped in on Saturday evening and were seated immediately - it was pretty crowded and the vibe was good. Tables and booths are packed into the space - there is also a patio and several bar stools. Our waitress was really awesome - super personable, knew the menu really well and provided us with great service even when we became a bit high maintenance (ie, asked for more napkins, unsweetend lemonade and just had a ton of questions..lol). The cheese biscuits to start are delish... they are warm and yummy, no butter needed! I probably could just eat these as my meal. Ladies ordered margaritas and they were just okay and the men sipped on iced-tea and lemonade. We then shared two 3-meat plates so we could essentially try all the meat they were offering. They were out of brisket so that was a bummer, but we were able to try everything else. My favs were the sausage and the smoked chicken. Everything was cooked well, not greasy and not as smoky as some other BBQ I have had. The ribs were a little too messy for me, but they had good flavor. Homemade pickles are also included on the plate and they were so good - crunchy and tangy; a perfect add to the smoked meat. We chose mac & cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, and BBQ chips for our sides. Everything was freshly prepared and worth every bite! I am obsessed with baked potatoes so my dad and I shared... the skin was crunchy and perfectly salted... add some chicken on top with BBQ sauce and wa-la.. a perfect meal for me! The menu offers many things such as salads, sandwiches, a handful of apps & small plates, etc.. There is certainly something for everyone here including non BBQ lovers.

Food is fantastic. Service is good. I'm a big fan of their coleslaw and baked beans. I should try their other sides, but it's too good to deviate. As for the meats, I enjoyed the pulled pork and ribs; I did not enjoy the hot links. "Secrets in the sauce" - this is what makes it all good! Oh, the cheese biscuits are addictive. For a chain, this is good BBQ! I'll be back to try the chicken and beef brisket.

I really like the cheese biscuits. They are maybe one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth. But the barbeque is not very good. Some dry. Some with unchewable parts.

I only allot 2 stars for fair pricing, kind service/speed of service. Do not eat here unless someone drags you or offers you a small dowery. Good ambience, kind people, delicious rolls: but THE BBQ IS NOT GOOD BBQ. I am in no way a BBQ expert; I just like food. The house sauce tastes like catsup and water. I suppose you have to order the ribs to get a good plate. The chicken is not good because of the sauce. I would not recommend this place to anyone except my worst enemy.

I took my parents to Jim 'n Nick's after being told it's one of the better local BBQ restaurant chains. Even if it isn't the most amazing BBQ I've had in your life, I know I'd never have bad BBQ here either. The service is helpful and efficient. Our waitress, Macy, did a fantastic job of making decisions as this was our first visit. The Baby Back Ribs are pink because it's been smoked for 12 hours. We had to ask Macy about this because my mom refused to touch any 'raw' meat although it obviously wasn't raw at all. I don't like ribs but I ate 2 so there is something about this place. The Brisket was delicious, soft, and tender. The slices are thin but large. We ordered the half-pound and the three of us could barely finish it. The Sweet Potato Casserole was our vegetable side of the day. It's sweet and crispy on the outside, and mushy on the inside. The Slow-Cooked Collard Greens was easily my favorite side with soft chunks of delicious meat The Coleslaw and potato salad was average. The complimentary cheese muffins are tempting but try to eat only one. The Southern Pecan beer tasted like liquid dessert.

Really, y'all, this is the south. Lemon with tea is the rule of the land. Clearly the management are Yankee interlopers determined to wreck our culture. Also, if the menu says an item comes with scallions, serve it with scallions. Little details make or break it for me. Back to that tea, it should be a medium brown color and not taste like dish water. The meat was very good but dropped details killed it.

Stopped by Jim N Nicks while visiting family in Hoover. Even as a vegetarian I've been to the one on South Cobb drive in Smyrna several times in the past and usually found myself eating side dishes for a meal. But I was a bit surprised by my visit to this Jim N Nicks... I wasn't sure how much the menu had changed, but some of the side dishes I use to order were no longer there. Anyway we were immediately sat on a Sunday evening. They weren't super busy, but it wasn't slow either. Our server was fast, courteous, and very nice...he definitely helped bump the experience to a three... and could've been a four if everyone's food hadn't been so mediocre. My aunt only ordered coconut pie and she said it was just okay... My mom and sister both ordered pulled chicken sandwiches and this is the fun part... Neither one liked the bbq sauces. The sauces that came with the food were rather blah... The white sauce, being a vinegar based sauce was just too vinegary and had no other flavor to speak of and no one cared for it. The regular bbq sauce couldn't have stopped traffic even if I had thrown it in the middle of the street... it just seemed like a thinner version of a better sauce it could've been. Also the sauces that were sitting on the table were definitely not liked either...the habernero bbq sauce and the other red sauce were tasted and put back on the end of the table. Which brings me back to the pulled chicken sandwiches... My mom ate the chicken off her sandwich buns and stated she would've enjoyed it better if she had actual bbq sauce to put on it (she did like her side of collard greens)and my sister only ate half her sandwich and would've preferred bbq sauce as well, as the only part of her meal she enjoyed were her fries... I ended up choosing the bbq nachos appetizer with no meat, our server was funny when I said no meat... He looked at me and was like no meat and I said no meat... He said none at all and I was like yes no meat at all... I bet that was the first time anyone had said that to him. Anyway, it didn't take long for anyone to get their food as what everyone had ordered was already prepped I'm sure. My nachos were okay... They weren't anything to cheer about but it just opened my eyes to the fact that bbq sauce on nachos could be good if the sauce actually had a taste to it. The chips were on the bottom of a small amount of queso, topped with a small amount of bbq sauce, lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, and a small amount of "smoked salsa"... which didn't taste smokey at all. In all...I can assume meat is what actually makes the nachos worth anything... Overall... everything was just meh... Even the lemonade was too sweet and barely tasted like lemons... I had to squeeze more lemons into it.... sad ain't it. Oh well, maybe it was just a really off night, I'm just glad the service was great... I don't darken the doors of bbq joints often as there aren't many options for non-meat-eating folks... But I would atleast like my family to enjoy their meals.

I really like/love most of the food, including the atmosphere, and service in house. My only beef is that the drive-thru service needs tweaking. The drive-thru servers are nice, polite, and good workers. What's my beef? I have gone through the drive-thru twice in one month and both times I have gotten someone else's food order. The drive-thru staff should be trained to verify that they are giving you the correct food when you get to the window. The blame for this rests solely on management for not training their staff to review the order with the customer at the pick-up window.

Love this place! Went for a Sunday lunch with my family of four (beware it's packed but with the wait). The wait was a harmless 20 mins. We got sat in Shannon's section. She was prompt to greet us and get drinks. It looked like every server was busy and its a tight fit in there and she politely warned us it'd take a couple minutes to get back with our drinks. She cAme back with drinks and took our order. My kids got the chicken drug and rubs off of the kids menu and my boyfriend and I shared the baby back ribs plate and a 2 combo plate (turkey, sausage).... Everything was amazing including sides... AND CHEESE ROLLS ARE SO GOOD I BOUGHT THE BAG OF MIX THEY SELL. Kudos to Shannon: I've been a restaurant and bar manager for 6 years and she was awesome in such a balls to the wall lunch crowd. Ask for her! Definitely going back!

My take-out order was incorrect. After waiting for way too long, I got home with the wrong food which was over cooked and cold. If you order take-out be sure to review your order and check everything before you leave this restaurant. I've dined here for years, however the last few times I have eaten here the service and food has declined while the prices increased dramatically several months ago.

Ok, so we just moved here from TX back in January.... suffice it to say, we know good BBQ. Jim n Nicks..... good BBQ. The service was fast, professional, and friendly. The food was fast and delicious. We will deffinitely be coming back!

I still think about their Collard Greens. The best I've ever had. Loaded with meat (pork? turkey? I couldn't tell you), and utter perfection with a sprinkle of hot pepper vinegar. Ohhhh collards, I miss you. Tons of tasty menu options caught my eye, but I finally decided on the Pick 2 Combo with 2 trimmings (collards!!) for $17. I upcharged $2 for the ribs, and picked pork hot links for my 2nd meat (other options were pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket and turkey). I wouldn't have gotten the greens if not for my waitress, so thank you! My 2nd trimming was mac and cheese, also a waitress recommendation. Jeeze Louise, this was a TON of food. I obviously cannot control myself at these damn BBQ places! The biscuits that everyone screams about... meh. Oh, I still ate about 4 of them (they're little, and sitting in front of me, what can I do?). But, eh, and I LOVE bread. Little corn muffins without much flavor. I'll pass to make room for an app... and the collards... and a stuffed baked potato... and the pimento cheese burger... and... damn BBQ places!!!! Large place. Large parking lot. Drive thru (?!). Table of screaming kids next to me, so this is an OK place to bring the fam.

Got here about 645pm on saturday the parking lot was packed. Was promptly seated and waited on by Adam. i started off with cheese muffins they were awesome. I had barbecue combo w/ ribs and brisket.. it was very good.. not too heavy , I felt great after leaving.. will definently come back here when I visit Bham again... Adam was a good server.

The BBQ at Jim 'n Nick's is good, but knowing that I can get in and out of the drive through with my order in about five minutes is a huge plus when I NEED BBQ and when you only have thirty minutes for a lunch break. The #4 combo meal, the Pig in a Potato Patch, is my go-to. This giant baked potato is jam-packed with BBQ pork, BBQ sauce, sour cream, cheese, butter, and green onions. Two (sometimes three if you're lucky) of those addictive cheese biscuits comes with this combo along with a massive drink. All this food is more than one meal, but trust me when I say this BBQ potato is awesome left over. The baked beans and potato salad are decent, fries and coleslaw are very meh, and the onion rings are consistently disappointing. The wonderful service really earned the fourth star on this review. While Jim 'n Nick's isn't my favorite BBQ in Birmingham, they are definitely at the top of my list for service. Whether eating in the restaurant or going through the drive-through, I've never been met with a less than stellar experience. Which, to me, is different for a "chain" but it keeps me coming back on my lunch breaks!

Always great service and good food. Get there early, at least on Sunday anyway, because they get crowded fast. But if you have to wait, it is usually very quick and worth it.

I know it's a chain, I'm sure there's better options in the area, yada yada yada but still...as someone from Philly, a city that has been trying to open a good BBQ place for years despite a great food scene in general, Jim 'n Nick is still leagues above what we have up North. I can't claim to know a ton about BBQ...but I know being tender, simple, and full of flavor are non-negotiable. This place hit all those out of the park. Had the sandwich with brisket and pulled pork (couldn't decide on just one) one a triple-layered roll. Awesome. Warm pecan pie? Oh lawd. Tried a couple local beers too...what they say about Brimingham having the purest tap water must be true. Well done down there. One star off for spotty service and trying to rush us out early. We wanted pie dammit, and I'm sure whatever it was you do on a Tuesday night in Birmingham was cool waiting 10 more minutes for you, dear.

I don't come here for BBQ (it's decent, but in Bham there are plenty of better options) but I love plenty of the other menu items. Cheese biscuits (duh), tacos on Tuesdays, or the pimento cheeseburger any time, any day. Love it. Good beer selection too (this visit had Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan for $4/pint).

You knew that you had made a good choice when the parking lot was full of pickup trucks. :) I went with the beef brisket with sides of mac-n-cheese and sweet potato casserole (VERY GOOD!). The best part of the meal, though, is probably the complimentary cheddar biscuits that come straight from the oven to melt in your mouth. My table of four must have eaten 24 of them. So good! Just glad I was going to work it off later.

A great place to enjoy some good BBQ and southern style food. I have never been disappointed with any location in Birmingham area; but this Hoover one is my favorite. I think the atmosphere/decor is a cross between the vintage farm look of Cracker Barrel and sleek, clean modern look of Michael's. They have a commitment to freshness and claim there is not freezer for food onsite. That could be why the meals are always tasty and flavorful! The BISCUITS are awesome! Unfortunately I could eat several baskets of them...so I have to have discipline when eating them. My favorite thing on the menu is the Pig in the Garden Salad with pulled chicken and for dressing pour half BBQ sauce and half ranch! The Hickory Smoked Turkey Plate is also a favorite dish of mine. The onion rings are a must order when very hungry! And the Hamburger Dave is a good choice when not in the mood for bbq. All in all this is a great choice for a variety of eaters. I even prefer this restaurant over Dreamland when I am wanting BBQ.

I can't say enough about our visit to the location on Montgomery Hwy! Being transplants from TN, we missed BBQ so we have tried pretty much all of the bbq restaurants in B'ham since our arrival 4 months ago. I never take the time to write reviews but this deserves one. Our waitress, Crystal, was nothing short of amazing! She didn't hover but kept a close eye on our drinks so they were never empty and happily answered any questions we had. She should get a raise! We had the pulled pork which was tasty but the sides made it an overall great plate! We both had the baked beans which were superb and had my SO still eating after we were so full we couldn't move! He also had the coleslaw (it's his go to side every time) that he claimed was YUM! We split the deviled eggs and I'm ashamed to report that they were almost better than my grandma's.This will be my top pick here when craving bbq! The interior was clean, friendly staff, and priced reasonably. Ask for Crystal and you won't be disappointed!

I would seriously go here JUST for the cheese biscuits. They're that good, and for this northeasterner, I don't know when I'm going to have anything half as good ever again! Seriously though, all the BBQ here is amazing, you're not going to get anything bad off the menu. I really liked a lot of their chicken actually and wish we'd gotten more! We were in a group of 5 so we got the sampler, but if I came back by myself, I'm going for a chicken

Fast to get in. Great service (Sasha). Wonderful chicken plate and rib plate. Muffins were soft and sweet. Mac and cheese was yummy, green beans spicey, potato salad and baked beans almost as good as what I make No room in tummy for more! Loved it overall!

A little bit of a wait on a Friday night, but the food was great. I heard others grumbling about the parking, but I was staying in a hotel next door, so it wasn't an issue for me. Our server was quick with drinks and a delight to adapt to my special requests. My beef brisket was tender and tasty. My friend's pulled pork was great. The sides were plenty and very, very good. Overall a great restaurant experience.

WOW! This is some of the best BBQ I have ever eaten. The meat was moist and well smoked. The sauce was a little sweet, but perfect. Sides were also great. The collard greens and cheese muffins were out of this world good. I also had cinnamon apples which were good, but not outstanding. The service was lightning fast and the waitress was very nice. The place was a little loud because it was packed in a Monday night.

Being from NYC, I really felt like I was getting a legit southern experience coming to Jim 'n Nicks. It was a nice day, not too hot, not too cold, so we sat outside with no problem at about 7:30 on a tuesday. They started us off with these fantastic cheesy corn muffins. I've never seen such a thing so I couldn't resist. Seemed like they were fresh out of the oven, they were fluffy and delicious. I had a feeling I'd be eating a lot so I tried not to fill up. At the time, they had a $2 dos equis special going on, so I had to order one. For my main course, I went with the little baby sized baby back ribs, with mac n cheese and fries. I didn't want to eat too much, and this was the perfect portion. the ribs were tender and delicious, the mac n cheese was creamy, and the fries weren't bad either. Our waitress was sweet and checked up on us regularly for drinks and everything. It was a great southern experience!

Always a treat when we go to Jim n Nicks. They have bbq down! You are good to eat in or go through the drive thru and be well satisfied. We visited this location in Hoover, AL after church Sunday night and were really happy to get some good bbq. The cheese biscuits are out of this world and match the quality of the bbq. We ordered their new number one which is kinda like a combo option. I can tell they are really trying to compete with the fast food restaurants in making it easy to order a drink, fries, and a sandwich and stay close to 5 bucks. Theirs was 6.79, but the food is sooooo much better than any fast food place you would go to. We did wait a little longer on this visit than usual, but the food was spot on and we endured with crying babies in our car, but were satisfied when we finally opened up the food and ate. So happy to always be able to get great bbq at JIM n NICK'S!!

Good but not great. I preferred Dreamland Ribs to Jim n Nicks. I also thought that it was a bit pricey.

Great barbecue and great service! Some of the best barbecue I've ever had, served by really friendly staff.

Excellent BBQ! Great staff! Please please fix your address problem on YELP! I had the Piggy Salad with pulled pork - great! My husband thoroughly enjoyed the combo platter with pulled pork and beef brisket. Pork was excellent, beef just okay.

Being from Texas a prefer brisket for my BBQ over pork and it took me years to finally go to Jim N Nicks because I didn't know they had brisket. Their brisket rivals any in Texas and that's saying something and those rolls. Oh yeah baby.

Biscuits are very tasty - more like a minature corn muffin Ribs were hot, juicy and meaty - some of the best I've had The turkey was ok - little on the cold side, and somewhat dry - prob in a warmer

It's not the best bbq i've ever had by a long shot but it's consistent. The bbq is average the service has always been good. However, the cheese biscuits are the best thing on the menu. That alone is worth the trip
