One of the best steakhouses in the Birmingham area! It's adjacent to the hotel Aloft (also fabulous!) and in the downtown area of Homewood. Service was amazing - we were seated immediately and had no less than 3 people asking if they could get us drinks (we were being indecisive). We went with a decent bottle of pinot and started with the panko breaded fried artichoke hearts. They were so amazing - a must for anyone who likes artichokes! We split a filet for dinner -- cooked perfectly and one of the best steaks I've ever had - top 5 at least. I ordered the feta vinagrette for the salad that comes with it. Fabulous! A great dressing on a great salad! (It had some dried cranberries and walnuts on a great mix of greens) With our steak came parmesan mashed potatoes - very yummy with real chunks of potato! Also got the grilled asparagus. Cooked perfectly! The mushrooms were not a hit - had a sort of Marsala sauce that I was not expecting. Oh and the bread that cam6e to the table was great! They usually have cinnamon buns but didn't have any ready until our meal was over (we got 2 to go in our leftover box) but gave the bread an enticing cinnamon hint. Overall a fantastic meal! Everything came out so fast it was like we had a personal chef! The bar area had great seating with several big hdtvs showing the current football games. Great atmosphere, great food, and great service! Too bad I'm not staying at the hotel next door! But at least we could take our bottle of wine to the chic lobby and take our time drinking it. Highly recommend! And across the street is awesome frozen yogurt for dessert from Tutti Frutti.

Convenient because I was staying in the Aloft, to which the restaurant is attached. Food was beyond expectation, the grilled chicken Caesar salad, fried green tomatoes and 'Mikes' wings were fantastic! I was fortunate to be served by a bartender called Amy - cheerful, attentive and a mine of local information. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

My first experience was mixed. The place had a decent vibe. The menu was diverse to cover beef and seafood tastes. the Delmonico steak that I ordered was prepared to my liking. medium rare was just that. Medium rare. The meal was derailed with inattentive service. Initially the server was friendly and talkative. This faded through the meal and ended up waiting too long on everything. Ordered wine with the steak, after nearly 10 minutes after my steak was brought to the table, another sever finally brought the wine to the table. No water was provided and the server was absent throughout the meal. Under normal circumstances, I would return to this restaurant because the food was pretty good, however with a variety of other restaurants in the area, it may be some time before I would go back.

Food excellent Service is marginal Wine prices extreme Flemings prices with McDonald's service Corkage fee went up from $10 to $20 Mr. Matsos needs to realize that increasing your prices doesn't make you a better Restuarant You should go in the opposite order Connie Kanakis residency at lunch and Friday night is a shining star and makes tolerating the rest of the atmosphere tolerable If you decide to visit. Go at lunch or on Friday night. Enjoy your greeting from Mr Kanakis but do not drink the kool-aid or the wine.

When I arrived I asked for the best cabernet they had by the glass and was brought a very mediocre $23 that was not very drinkable. But the best they had. We had a meal with dry chicken scaloppini and a $40 filet that outside of the cut of meat itself had no flavor. I took about 3 bites and thought if I took it home and doctored it up I might could make a meal the next day with it. So I had the waiter box the filet up to go for me. Even thought we had to find the waiter a few times I tipped $140 on $109... I good tip. Since I was at a business dinner I got into a conversation when I left talking to an associate and forgot my go box. Got in the car and left. Called back and they acted like I was stupid for even calling them and telling them I was coming back for it. - Told me they threw it away. ?? I asked why the waiter I just tipped $31 for 2 people would have done that. Surely he would have thought I'd be back for my $40 steak - right? Nope... Literally acted like I was stupid for thinking they might have held it for me. I spoke to the GM and a young kid got on the phone - He said he was GM and started reciting health code on why they can't hold to go food. And all these reasons why they wouldn't have looked in the box.. I said "MY WAITER should have held it for me!" (Don't all restaurants hold go food THAT IS PAID FOR so the customers can come get it?) Just really put out by the whole threw my food away thing. Then acting like I was some idiot calling up there looking for it. So my review is mediocre food and service and poor customer service by management.

I was staying at the Aloft next door and I was pleasantly surprised at the food quality. I live in Minneapolis which is a foodie's dream so I had high expectations and was not disappointed! The salmon was phenomenal and the creme fraiche on it made it perfect. The asparagus was salted and cooked to perfection. Give the tuna tartar with wasabi salad dressing a try too. It's got some kick but not too much. Wait staff is very friendly as well.

Bar tender completely lost, She was on the phone when we entered taking what sounded like a personal call for 10 mins. Came in for a lunch time drink on 8/14/2015. It took her and the manager to figure out an N.C. license, meanwhile keeping my son's beer on the counter for at least 15 mins. so eventually would serve it to him luke warm. I had ordered a bloody mary. I am a grandmother and did not require an ID Check and she still made me wait...I emphasized 4 times that I could not have horseradish, she and the manager said they would not add it....and what did I get? Horseradish!! Very allergic. Staying at the Aloft, I would stick to that bar for a great experience and a bartender with a personality, Thanks Garrett!

This was my first experience in the SOHU district of Homewood. The service was fastastic. There 6 of us and we ended up being seated in the Homewood Room where we had our own TV and were secluded. The food was wondering. I am not a salad lover, but the salad was the best salad I have ever had in my life...bar none! I will be back just for the salad. I had the Chicken Kabob, the chicken was seasoned to perfection which is very unusual in such a swanky place. Everyone enjoyed their meals which the exception of my 7 year old son, but he is picky eater and didn't enjoy the kid's meal chicken tenders. This is a must visit place!

We were disappointed in our meal at this restaurant. It was recommended to us because it was close to the resort where we were staying. The location was safe and well lit. Parking was convenient. Decor was upbeat and clean. Although the televisions made it feel like a sports bar. The drink orders were taken upon being seated and took 20 min to be completed. Our food was served and the steak and fish was room temp to cold. The salad was limp. However the sids were good, hot and very tastey. We understand that a group can throw off a server, but the staff here was slow and didn't seem to have a sense of urgency when even helping find a solution to the slow turn around in the kitchen or the bar.

Apparently, this restaurant is under new management and they are trying hard to implement some changes. During a visit last weekend, I had one of the best restaurant experiences of my life. The food was good, but the service was impeccable and entertaining. I wish I could remember the server's name. A bald guy with a beard. We were going back and forth on what cocktail to order and he just stopped us and brought over a very knowledgable bartender who just made up phenomenal drinks for the table. Server made excellent suggestions for the food.

I can't say I have had a bad visit here. Steer butt was tender and cooked medium rare as I asked with a warm center. Hickory flavor and seasoning were well balanced. Service was on point and all 7 of us had a wonderful meal. Look forward to the next visit.

Nice decent atmosphere. We had great service both times we have been. You can go casual or dress up some - don't expect everyone to be wearing a tie. I had a filet the first time - no complaints - a good steak cooked as ordered. Second time I tried shrimp and grits. Again no complaints. Excellent salad ahead of this. We ordered an appetizer... again no complaints. Here is the distinction between 4 and 5 stars; we cant remember what the appetizer was! It wasn't bad, but it just didn't pop enough to push it into the memory banks.

I never write reviews, but I feel strongly enough to write a review on our terrible experience last night. We decided to try Michael's for Birmingham restaurant week. I would figure with a set menu the service should be fairly quick. Unfortunately, our experience was everything but. There were probably only 30 people in the entire restaurant and our meal for 6 people took 2.5 hours. The kitchen ran out of several options that was also on their set menu. Our waitress was more occupied with her friends at the bar instead of serving our food. The food was mediocre at best. I enjoy a good steak and by the time ours got to the table it was tasteless and lukewarm. The French onion soup was comparable to panera (good but could get elsewhere for cheaper). I wanted the lobster bisque and was told they ran out. I also ordered the torte for dessert and it apparently fell apart in the kitchen and was not edible. By the time 2 hours had passed, we decided to order dessert to go. Everyone else got their order of dessert and were finished. I had to remind the waitress several times about my to go order before finally getting up from my table and approaching her at the bar while she was talking to friends before she got it from the kitchen. She did comp our table of 6 one bottle of wine, however this was too little, too late. I will not be back.

After eating here at the old location next to the Galleria, I was anxious to get a taste of the new Michael's. As I recall, my first visit was amazing. Truly great steaks. I wish I could say the same for my latest visit. In a word? Disappointed. I've had much better steaks for much less even though I wanted to like it. We got the Steer Butt and the filet, which seemed to be at the high range, so it was not that we picked cheap steaks, just a mediocre restaurant. Some may disagree, but I won't be going back to Michael's. I can find much better and tastier ways to blow $75 on date night.

Great food and location in a hotel downtown Homewood. The prices are not very reasonable compared to Firebird. But you pay for what you get. Is a nice restaurant to show off your wallet. But all and all is a must try.

I gave Michael's one star because there is no option for a lower ranking. If you like dry steak, watered-downed drinks, and slow service - this is your place. You are much better off going to Flemings or Ruth Chris. My wife suggested we go in for a steak. The restaurant was FREEZING, but we were told that if they warmed up the empty dinning area, the chef would get hot. OK, I will freeze through a $100+ terrible meal for the chef's comfort. If you want a better steak, go elsewhere.

My husband & I went here during Birmingham Restaurant Week. I've lived here all my life, but this was our first time. We both ordered the same thing. We started out halving one of their cinnamon rolls, which was very tasty. We got the lobster bisque for appetizer, Bleu Cheese Crustedsteak Medallio served with braised potatoes and bacon for entree and White Macadamia Nut Bread Pudding for dessert. It was ALL very tasty! And our waitress was very nice. We will go again, I'm sure.

Pretty good atmosphere. Our waitress was fun to interact with. We had prime seating location - not too close to the door or the kitchen but we could see all the food that left the kitchen counter. Ordered the Steer Butt - unfortunately, I was not impressed. As soon as it arrived, my medium ordered tenderloin looked dried and burnt. My sister's Delmonico (ribeye) was good, hefty size. It was cooked a bit uneven so part of it was medium with lots of red and medium that was dark. Steak fries were pretty good. For the size of the portion, I definitely believe they are overpriced. $4 for 6 skinny stalks of asparagus... most of us could inhale that asparagus in 1 bite and I'm paying $4 for that? Attached to the Aloft - we went over and shot a game of pool for a few minutes.

Yum! This is a great steakhouse. It's a tweak below Flemings and Ruth's Chris in terms of price but nearly as good. It is a great place to go for any kind of special occasion or to entertain some fine folks, but you can actually be fairly casual. I pushed the edge of that envelope when I went for a quick early dinner mid-week after a (humid sweaty) run at the Trak Shak Wed. night group run.

Great menu selection including lots of seafood and reasonable prices. Came her for a Wednesday night dinner. The place was not crowded, not so great to see and be seen but solid food and service. Started with fried calamari. Texture was great, not rubbery, could have been seasoned better and a little less breading for my taste. I like my calamari with lots of lemon. The portion is large enough to be shared between 3-4 people. For dinner, I had the grilled scallops with wild rice and veggies. The portion size was perfect, not too much, not too little. Ordered the white chocolate macadamia nut bread pudding for dessert and loved it. The portion is large enough to be shared between 3-4 people as well. It's not your typical bread pudding, the consistency is more dense and more like a cake but I really enjoyed it. I'd say this is a great place to take a date or for a girl's night out.

Food was mediocre, at best. Definitely overpriced for what the quality. The bartender didn't know how to make our drinks and instead of problem solving, like using your smart phone to look it up, sent our poor waiter running back and forth. He was the only redeeming quality of our meal. Wes was sweet and adorable, and clearly overwhelmed. I feel certain that you can do better in the area for the money.

We got to the restaurant right when they opened, and were the first customers inside. I immediately went to the restroom to freshen up and was greeted by turd floating in the toilet. Really? I certainly wasn't expecting that from this caliber of restaurant. The restroom was clearly neglected, or perhaps an employee used that restroom before the restaurant opened and didn't bother to fix the mess they made. The motion operated sink is a pain in the butt as well. Overall the restaurant was clean and the waitress was very nice and attentive. I ordered the ribeye steak with grilled asparagus which was very tasty. What I like about this restaurant are the fresh cinnamon buns that are brought out hot. Definitely worth trying.

Pretty good restaurant in Homewood, AL (part of Birmingham). My wife and I were staying overnight at the Aloft (which is attached) on the way home to Dallas from NC. Service is very attentive and waiters are friendly. Food is good, but not terribly exceptional. My wife ordered the Shrimp & Grits which she enjoyed. I had the Ahi Tuna appetizer and the Philly Cheese Steak. Both were fairly decent, although I would still never recommend getting Shrimp & Grits anywhere but Charleston, SC...this restaurant did a fine job, but only Charlestonians can truly get it right. Michael's is a nice restaurant to grab a bite if you're staying in the Soho area of Homewood. I can't say whether this is a place worth venturing to if you live in the Birmingham area since I've had very little experience in that city.

A Carnivore's dream come true. Michael's steak house is a new addition to the SoHo area in downtown Homewood. I have been two times recently. The first was to have dessert with my daughter. Then to lunch with my wife. The dessert was a chocolate decadence cake. It was about 200 layers of chocolate cake with a chocolate mousse icing between each layer. I think that the slice of cake was about 18 inches thick. Well, maybe a slight exaggeration but, it was a BIG delicious hunk of cake. For lunch my wife had the seafood gumbo. When we discovered that it was waaaayyy to salty the server had the chef taste it and he agreed and said that he was re-working the entire batch of gumbo...good style points there. I had the burger. WOW, what a treat. 12 oz of freshly ground chuck, hand-patted served with all the trimmings. I cannot describe just how good this burger is. I cannot wait to get back again for a steak. Great stylish decor, very attentive service, a cool upscale place. Give this one a try!

For a steak place, they really don't know how to cook a steak. Three of us at our table ordered the filet kabob, which we each ordered medium. The first time our plates arrived, all three of them were well done. The second time they arrived, they were all raw. We got a visit from the executive chef, who offered another dish in return. My husband chose the DelMonico steak, medium. Got it home, cut into it, and it was extremely raw. Very disappointed. However, their side dishes, bread & soups are good. Try the lobster Mac & cheese. Very rich and nice chunks of lobster in it. I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants a good steak. There are a lot of other steak places in town that can actually cook a steak to a customer's liking the first time.

We were very disappointed with our dinner experience and won't be going back. We had reservations but were seated at one of the tables in the bar area for our dinner-not impressed. My partner ordered salmon and rice, but the rice appeared to have been cooked the day before. I ordered the Greek snapper and a baked potato. The fish was very thin with a gloppy topping and my baked potato was very tiny and microwaved. The only positive aspect of our dinner was the salad.

It was ok... nothing special about this food and I was underwhelmed. It wasn't terrible.. but the decor makes it look like a high class place but has average food. Service was pretty decent though which is good.
