Another Florence favorite! Newbern's has been around for many years now. I can remember going here often with my Granddad (E.G. Butler) years ago. The whole fried catfish is probably the best in North AL! While the decor is rather dated, the food and service is great!

Love catfish. Love that it's not so heavily breaded & greasy. Sides are average tasting, catfish is where it's at!

Catfish! This is the place to go for fried catfish, coleslaw and sweet tea in The Shoals area. My family and I cannot visit relatives here in Florence without at least one trip for whole pond caught catfish. My daughter swears that the coleslaw is her favorite from any place she has ever eaten.. Price is right, and for what the place is, it is spot on. To be fair, I only eat the Catfish here, and my rating is based solely on that. I cannot speak for any other dish on the menu.

Gross. The hushpuppies are undersized, the fish is over-battered, and absolutely everything is dry. The southern basket-style seafood joint is a good concept, but the execution is absolutely horrible. Comparable to elementary school cafeteria food.

Catfish. Sweet sweet southern fried extra greasy catfish It's a quaint Restaurant with a friendly staff and good service. If your a fan of country cookin than this could be your new favorite place. They will fry you some fish that will make your pet cat hate you forever because you ate it all. I don't know what else to say about Newberns, its your typical country food restaurant that does something very well (yep, you guessed it.... catfish) Prices are very reasonable. Why don't you just give it a try... hush puppies, fried catfish, cole slaw and tarter sauce, its hard to beat.

This catfish is the best I've had at a restaurant! When it's fresh, it's awesome and it's fresh most of the time. Portions are good. Prices around $10 per person.

Anyone who doesn't at least like something about Newberns is talking out of their a$$. They tend to overcook the whole catfish but the fillets are great. Great tasting slaw and hush puppies and portions are always sizable.
