I don't understand the negative comments posted here at all. Glad I did not rely totally on those opinions. The food was fantastic...some of the best seafood dishes ever. The crab cakes were pretty much all crab with very little filler at all and the seasonings were right on the mark. All three of us had different dishes and each was spectacular. Our waitress was happy and loads of fun. Maybe the staff responds to happy customers better than negative ones. One of the best places in town to eat in my opinion.

Great service. Excellent food at a fantastic price point. Lovely outdoor seating area. We recommend the sauteed soft shell crab sandwhich and fried green tomato with crab cakes dish. Perfect pre_shopping lunch.

We were on a house hunting trip to Fairhope over the weekend and friends tooks us here for dinner Saturday night. Loved the ambience and warmth of the place. It was crowded but the service was good. The wedge and Italian salads were tasty, as were all of the entrees (pasta with seafood which two of us had; prime rib and crab cakes which the other two in our party had). It's a a nice place to bring friends and we'd definitely go there again.

This place, in theory, should be a great idea. Downtown Fairhope needs a fine dining area; I just don't think this place meets the needs of that requirement. The problem with this restaurant--and the issue that I think will eventually be it's downfall unless it's addressed now--is the service. I've eaten here twice while in town visiting my father and both times the service was absolutely dismal. I've worked in restaurants since I was 16 years old and service is my "make it or break it" when it comes to trying restaurants. If the service is poor, it's just really hard for me to have a good dining experience. It's not just that the service here is slow (which can be forgivable), but it is also inattentive and borderline rude. My most recent visit to Tamara's Downtown was Friday, March 2nd. This is the night of Art Walk in Downtown Fairhope, so the restaurant was busy. I joined a party of about 12 people, which included my father and his foreign business associates that he was entertaining. The lady waiting on us seemed flustered and awkward. I did feel bad for her because it seemed that she was waiting on almost every table in the busy restaurant. I fault the management for either understaffing on a busy night or assigning sections that are too large for a server to handle. She did not check on the table enough and let a table of 12 people sit with empty glasses for a considerable amount of time. I ordered the filet and specifically told her that I wanted it medium rare, but more on the side of rare since the last time I ordered the filet there it was overcooked. The filet was supposed to come with asparagus and potatoes. I told her that I did not want asparagus and asked for the cauliflower mash instead. From the time we ordered our dinner to the time it was placed in front of us, almost 40 minutes elapsed. Every time we'd inquire about our entrees, she'd brush us off by telling us "It's okay, they will be out soon." No one helped her bring out plates and she literally walked back and forth from the kitchen to our table to bring out all 12 plates. She didn't remember what anyone had ordered so she'd stand at the head of the table auctioning off whatever plate she had in her hand at the time. When she brought out my plate and the first thing I noticed is that there was asparagus on it. I cut into my steak and it was completely brown all the way through (i.e.-not medium rare.) I normally never send my food back, but this was a $33 filet that they had grossly overcooked after I had been super specific about how I wanted it done after they'd screwed it up last time. I told her I wanted it sent back to the kitchen and she tried to blame me for not being clear when I was ordering. A few other people had their orders screwed up in some fashion but just decided to bite their tongue since we'd already waited so long to eat and our out-of-town guests were exhausted. Our bill was over $500, which I thought was a lot of money to spend on an experience that turned out to be pretty damn disappointing. The bathrooms seemed like a white-trash version of what should have been a restroom attendant set-up. There were aerosol cans of deodorant and cheap hairspray on the counters along with big pump bottles of Suave lotion. I was so confused by that. They did have some really nice sea-salt scrub to use by the sink, but it was strange how they had advertisements for it plastered up encouraging you to buy some. I will NEVER return to Tamara's and wouldn't encourage anyone else to try it.

This is a great place to have a really special meal. Service was wonderful. Great variety on the menu.

Great brunch atmosphere with awesome live music and $5 bottomless mimosas. Our server Snow was probably the best server we've had in a long time.

Took friends there for Christmas lunch. Service was slow. I had a vegetarian with me and not much on the menu for them. Portobello mushroom appettizer with veggies made an entre for her. I had the grilled catch of the day which was supposed to be grouper. The fish arrived cold and looked and tasted like it had been grilled, frozen then microwaved. And for $26 it was way overpriced for the small portion. Portobello mushroom had way to much fiberous artichoke pieces. I'll try to eat at home next year.

Delicious, had the lobster ravioli and a tiramisu martini. Only negative was the prices.

I visit Tamara's when I am in Fairhope (a town that I adore). I love the atmosphere of this restaurant. This time around wasn't the best visit, and I learned a few lessons. As a vegan, I have previously asked for the chef to create a dish for me, which has always been very good. Usually it is a dish of fresh veggies over linguine. This time, I felt like a salad and ordered the Greek Salad. Wow. Meh. My first clue that this would be not-so-good is that my totally inexperienced waitress said that they always serve Italian Dressing on the Greek Salad. Huh?? Is it so hard to come up with a fresh Greek dressing if you have this GREEK salad on your menu as an entree salad? Besides that, this salad had those yucky canned-type olives & pepperocini. Just blah. This was a salad you would find at Olive Garden. The highlight was the fried green tomatoes, which I love there. Low point of that dish was that this vegan had to scrape off the Parmesan cheese off of the top, but I wasn't about to send it back, as that would have been too wasteful. As a vegan, I have to remember that sometimes food comes with a bit of sauce or cheese that is not mentioned on the menu. It happens. The waitress I had on this trip wouldn't have been noticing something like that, or anticipated it. (I always mention that I am vegan, but sometimes get a blank stare, like this time). Will I go back? Sure. I will ask to sit in one of the more experienced wait staff's section (I know who they are, they are long term employees). And I will go back to asking for a special made vegan dish.

Went last night for dinner. Never been, I'm from out of town. This place was horrible. First, it was 7pm and the place was empty. That should have been my first clue not to go here. Seated fast, no problems. But I would finish my water and would have to ask to get a refill...several times. I asked several times for more lemons before they brought me some. The food took forever to come out. I got the Greek pasta which was not very good and everything is overpriced. I don't foresee this place staying open for very long. For is overpriced for what I can get at an Olive Garden. Disappointing.

Well, after almost 5 years, I have tried this place again. And once again, I am rating Tamara's Downtown somewhere around 2.5 stars. The restaurant is clean and well maintained, clean silverware, linen napkins, clean menus - no complaints there. Service was ok but it is odd to be served by a bunch of kids working a couple hours after school; it just felt very amateurish. Food -- the quality of products used was good, no limp lettuce or unripe tomatoes, and that was expected given the prices - a salad with a protein added will run you around $15+. The execution was seriously lacking -- the kitchen staff need to be taught the difference between rare, medium rare and medium ( all of the meats ordered by our table were undercooked). All in all, the food is neither great nor bad, just overpriced, very average and unimaginative. I can skip this restaurant for another 5 years and I won't miss a thing.

We like to pick local establishments over chains, but this one was a poor choice for us. The service was very very slow and the food we had was mediocre. We were seated for several minutes before the server came to get our drink order. Wait, wait, wait. Ice tea was delivered by someone else. Wait, wait and finally see our waitress again. Ordered the shrimp stack appetizer (which someone on Yelp mentioned as tasty). She left to put in the order for the appetizer. Eventually the appetizer was delivered and we had completely finished eating it by the time the waitress returned to take our order. By this time, we had "had it" with the whole thing. We asked for our check, waited for it then left. Oh, for the record, the shrimp stack was not that tasty either. We were looking for some good, fresh fried shrimp from the Gulf. I bet these were frozen from a box. Our last meal was about 10 miles north near Spanish Fort. The shrimp on the bay up there were great!

I was in Fairhope with my family for the afternoon and we were starving. Tamara's was recommended to us by a few locals so we decided to stop in. When we got there around 12:30 there wasn't another customer in the restaurant and we were all a bit concerned. There was no reason for worry. Our server could not have been more pleasant and the food was delicious! I had the special shrimp stack and it was so tasty. My family all requested second bites of my food! This was the perfect spot for a quick and tasty lunch.

Had dinner. Service was uneven and the server seemed a bit off. The caprese salad is a huge mound of basil with 6 cherry tomatoes and six small buffalo mozzarella balls. Seriously? Shrimp grits good but too much bacon. Promising place but needs work.

Had lunch for our daughters birthday! it was perfect and the service was great! Nice variety on the lunch menu - I had the fried Soft Shelled Crab Sandwich and it was very good!

My wife and I started with the shrimp stack which was really good. The sauce on the bottom was tasty but rich. My wife got the wedge lettuce - soaked in this sweet chili glaze. Not good at all. I had the crawfish elegante soup. It was good but again, very rich. For our entrees, we got the ahi tuna - Horrible! It had that same chili glaze and the tuna had was definitely not fresh. I had the scallops which were not good at all and the risotto underneath was under cooked. We were definitely disappointed because of the quality for the high price. The restaurant really has a lot of potential being in a great building and all but needs work.

Food was delicious. Upscale feel in a small town! Seafood au gratin was delicious and so was the lobster ravioli! Well be going back again!

This was really a 3.5 star experience but I have been so mean lately I decided to bump it up because of the great service. If you ever read my reviews you will know I am a fan of "shared" plates and our waiter did an excellent job with our requests. The wine list seemed to please my date and his choice of a Malbec was excellent. The bread with the olive oils is tasty, but the plates were over-filled with liquid, which made enjoying it a bit awkward. We had reservations and were seated promptly, but I was not crazy about how we were seated. For the purpose of room, I am sure, the tables were turned so that the longest part of the table was between us, which made conversation a tad difficult. The Oysters Rockefeller were spot-on. We also shared a salad and a grilled shrimp dish that were enjoyable. The salad was way over-dressed (heavy hands seem to work here). The location is convenient and the staff did an excellent job. If the atmosphere were a bit more intimate and the served more simply it would have been a lovely event.

I went there for lunch a few months back and it was by far the worst meal I have had in a long time. The tuna appetizer tasted foul. We couldn't even eat it. My boyfriend got the shrimp and grits and I am not sure why they would classify them as that. There was an inch of melted butter on top of a mound of grits with thick sliced peppers and onions. They described the shrimp as "large fresh gulf shrimp" but they were frozen popcorn sized shrimp. I am not exaggerating. I got the stuffed grouper. Stuffing tasted like bread crumbs, but the mashed potatoes were decent. I usually do not complain, but I had to say something and the owner reluctantly took off the shrimp and grits.

Have had wine and cocktails a couple of times, just out of convenience. They make an adequate burger, but the atmosphere is just strange, and the vibe seems to be very harsh, and the employees seem to always seem unhappy. Their knowledge of cocktails is crude, and does not fit what could be such a nice space. The owner is extremely unfriendly, and has strange ideas all over the place, from the menu to the bathrooms, which are filled with such classics as aerosol hairspray and Brut cologne. Spare no expense for the guests! I think that I can find the energy to venture out further the next time I want to have a cocktail.

I liked the atmosphere/environment. It was quiet and relaxing. Our party had the filet, shrimp with grits, and scallops. The filet and shrimp were ecxellent. "One of the best steaks I've had in a while". The shrimp was spicey but very good and the grits were even better. The scallops were ok, but prepared with special dietary needs as requested which was appreciated. The sweet potato fries were amazing, cut very thick and crunchy, with the pecan bourban sauce. The entrees come with 2 sides, one of which can be a salad. Our dinner was $65 for 3. Our waitress was very helpful, patient, and pleasant. The only downside was it took a little while to get our food. It was an enjoyable experience. I would definitely go back.

I've been here a few times despite the fact that I am not going to be extremely enthusiastic for or against in this review. The ambiance is nice. The seats have cushions, I like that. The colors on the walls, the exposed brick, all pretty. There is artwork all over the walls, even overhead next to the lighting on the ceiling. Cool. Service is either great or just AOK. The food is good, it's not amazing or interesting. I like the rosemary and lavender infused olive oil to dip my bread in. The waitress I had last night was pleasant enough, but there was a lot of time in between her service and order taking. We waited an extremely long time for our drinks after she took the order for them. And that is just starting you off.. Anyhoo...it's hit or miss. A huge miss for me is the fact that they serve Tiramisu which states on the menu that it has espresso in it. Our waitress told us they made their desserts on the premises, yet they don't have an espresso maker. They only offer coffee. The Tiramisu doesn't taste so great. Definitely not espresso in it. Not even coffee. It also came with whipped cream on top and chocolate chips (weird). The creme brulee was salty while the top was sweet. I've never had a salty creme brulee. My husband said his bread pudding was good, just that it was a little on the dry end. This particular evening nothing on the menu spoke to me so I just had the sweet potato chili soup. I was a little surprised when it arrived with no grated cheddar on it...boo hoo. I feel like they are always busy and packed..so their location and the fact that they have a nice space will eventually keep working for them. The menu is OK. I've had their lamb, sauteed veggies, pasta with chicken, been there for brunch. Nothing was bad but I wish I liked this place. OH, my husband is deathly allergic to fish and we had to leave the restaurant once because even though he had steak, there was clearly some cross-contamination in the kitchen. We felt like we should have warned the waiter. We did last night and there was no incident but he was still worried. When I called to make reservations, the person answering the phone could be a little friendlier and pay attention to me on the phone as opposed to talking to guests walking in while I sat hanging...Just a thought. I know, i'm being hard on them. I can't help but want to root for them, eh? I may wind up back in there..just because I might give em another try.

Dropped in during the recent rainy Saturday Art show. Terrific bartender named "Sno" The Bloody Mary's are awesome. They have a build your own condiments bar. Try the Border burger with avocado and pineapple salsa. Fun visit. I recommend.

I have been to this place several times. The first time I ordered the Chicken Alfredo and it was not that good. The sauce was off. The second time I went and I ordered the Club Sandwich which is to die for!!!!! The waiters are extremely nice and I love how they share person stories and such. The only thing that somewhat annoyed me was the guy singing. He sang good and all but I could never hear what he was singing and it highly annoyed me. Overall this place is excellent.
