This place has a great vibe, friendly staff, and good seafood. The fried pickles were great, and HUGE! They have a good selection of beer, including Tallgrass. Sit outside for a river view if the weather is nice. Well worth the drive. You'll be glad you stopped by.

Waitress was very nice - but they seemed short staffed. Food was very good. They had Biker parker which was great because rest of parking lot was gravel. Wish they did a biker night and used the advertising for such. outside area was good for family and friends. will def go back!

I had the combination sandwich with soft shell crab and crawfish tails. Either half would have been a whole meal. The crabs were the largest I have ever seen and extremely tasty. A side order of fried okra and a Jack Daniel's and I was in seafood heaven. Good bands there too on the weekend . The location is a little out of the way, but perfect for relaxing and watching the river. I love this place!

Crab claws are excellent and blackened shrimp outstanding. I don't travel 2500 miles from Oakland to Alabama every Thanksgiving to eat bad food and Big Daddy's doesn't serve it! The river setting is beautiful and you can't even hear the kids in the sand when you eat inside! Keep up the good work Big Daddy.

Wow! So delicious & the waitstaff quick, staying on top of our table's needs & wants. It was great dining outside Sunday for lunch. My friends & I could not find anything to gripe about. It is worth the drive!

Recently visited a buddy on the Redneck Riviera. He recommended a trip to Big Daddys Grill. We sat outside, pretty masochistic thing to do in LA(Lower Alabama) in August.Heat and humidity wasn't as bad as I remember. The kids played in the sand area designed just for that purpose. Our server was quick to greet us and take drink orders and even faster getting them to us.The Yeungleng draft was cold and welcomed. She offered to take the food orders but we weren't ready. She returned quickly, but not too soon to make us feel rushed, and in perfect time to get food order and another round of beers. Our food came out promptly and everyone's burgers were cooked to order from medium rare to well.I like the fact you can can split sides as in half fries and half onion rings. The kids just had fries, dessert, and pink lemonade. They enjoyed them, but had a hard time staying out of the sand. The place offers live music on weekend nights. It offers what they do best in Alabama, friendly laid back good times.

Being on the river is awesome. The seafood is excellent either fried or blackened.

Update: I've updated my review based on the fact that any restaurant that managed to handle so many youngsters and communicate so well, while succeeding at all aspects of the food service industry truly deserves 5 stars!! We came in with a soccer team consisting of boys 8-10 years old, their older and younger siblings and the parents and friends, 25 or so in total. Service was exceptional, especially considering the fact that only one person took care of all us. The ambiance was incredible as the restaurant backs right up to a lake and is hidden among a canopy of trees and moss. What I ate was unexceptional, but in no way bad. The blackened chicken was less zesty than anticipated and the salad basic but very fresh. Pricing was decent and all the kid's meal were 6 dollars each including drinks.

We stopped in here for a quick bite to hold us over for an early dinner, and Big Daddy's was a perfect place to visit along Fish River. You can come by boat or car. It's casual with good food and good service. No complaints! We split a pound of fried crab claws to start. They were okay, but not the best I've had. It was hard to get the meat off the claw for most of them. I ordered a grilled shrimp wrap and it was pretty good. I just indulge on local seafood while I'm here. It came with sweet potato fries, which were too soggy for J's liking, but i liked them. My parents-in-law split a patty melt and it was also good. No frills, but made well. That's the general theme of Big Daddy's. We had some drinks, but I can't remember the names. They have a full bar inside. If you're looking for a simple but good place to eat, Big Daddy's is it. And, it has a nice view of the river, too! Also, if you're coming by boat, you can't bring your dog, and you need to have clothes and shoes on in order to eat there!

Really?! Dinner at Big Daddy's was awesome! Can't wait to go back. The crab claws were good. The fried shrimp were great as were the oysters. The hush puppies were some of the best I've had -- maybe as good as Grandma's. The view over the river was very nice. Make no mistake Big Daddy's ain't fine dining, but it is damn good eatin'!

We have been Lovin on Big Daddy's for many years! When I crave good old Gulf Coast Oyster PoBoys, Big Daddy's is my go to. Beautiful setting on the Fish River. Indoor and outdoor seating make it easy to enjoy the mystique of the river. Most recently I ordered the 1/2 oyster/// 1/2 soft shell crab PoBoy- so great! For a healthier option try their Gumbo, it's perfect just like my mamma would make! I finished off my meal with a Bushwacker... It's the holiday season a time for splurging! Never ever had a bad meal at Big Daddy's Grill!

Had lunch here today which consisted of one of the best hamburgers that I have had in quite awhile. Not sure why Big Daddy's burgers haven't been ranked among the best in Alabama by all of the so called food editors. Beef was excellent, cooked to perfection and fries couldn't have been any better. Oh yeh, and the beer was very cold on the hottest day of the summer.

At first glance, this might appear to be your standard waterside fried seafood dive. I was pleased to find a fun and lively place with really solid food. The blackened shrimp and fried okra that I tried were both fantastic. Our waitress did awesome. The kids had fun in the huge sandbox, and I had fun with a cold beer. The band playing the patio was a nice touch. This place is not fancy, but it sure was fun.

This is our go-to place when we have visitors from out of town. It's a little hard to find, but that just adds to the experience. Great seafood and burgers. Good selection of beverages. Great place to bring the kids!!!! There are sand areas for them to play in and they don't have to keep super quiet and still. Waitstaff is always attentive and friendly. Not cheap, but you do get what you pay for.

What a great local and off the beaten path spot Big Daddy's is! Casual. Perfect if you have young children. Sit outside near the sand play area and your kids can play while you wait. Pretty view of the water. Service was great. Smoked tuna dip was awesome as was the fried okra for starters. Oysters were huge and delicious on the po boy. We will definitely be back.

Big Daddy's Grill is your local riverside Burger Joint. Great fried, Blackened and grill seafood. Well known for the Big Daddy Burger and the Big Daddy Basket including enough fried fish, shirmp, crab claws, oysters and fries. (enough for 2). They have TVs for football season and live music on Friday and Saturdays most of the year. If the weather is nice sit outside on the covered deck and watch the boaters on fish river. Overall a great place friendly service and calm atmosphere for all guest.

Excellent service. A lot of food. Fresh catch was excellent. Hush puppies were my favorite of anywhere I have had them. Lava cake, well it didn't last long. It was delish!

This place was great! Some of the best service we have ever had, quick and friendly. The food was served hot and was delicious. I had the crawfish Po'boy and my husband had the lunch shrimp basket. The onion rings were very good and he had fries and coleslaw which he though was not over dressed and very tasty. We bought home a piece of pie which we have not eaten yet as we are still too full from lunch. Everything we had was fried, this is not health food but next time I will have the shrimp salad without the fried good.

Casual but very good food. This place is "off" the beaten path outside Fairhope. If you are out for a fun drive or craving views and a laid back afternoon, this should be one of your stops. The service is very casual so don't go if you are in a hurry, but everyone is friendly and the food is truly excellent. Portions are huge, prices are low and quality is very good.

Once on a while you have the craving for fried food and this place had it . I had the fried shrimp and catfish, fried green beans and fried pickles... All good , not greasy. The place is by the river so it's pretty nice to sit outside. There's a great sand area for the kids to hang out. The best were the fresh baked pies...peanut butter yum !

Excellent atmosphere. A little out of the way, but that's part of the charm. Great setting right on the water. Food was very good for fried seafood. Oysters tasted fresh and are fried just right. Catfish was delicious. Portions are large which makes up for the slightly higher than average prices. Great place. Can't wait to return.

Good fresh gulf shrimp, barbecued along with fried local oysters. Accompanied by amazing sweet potato fries and onion rings. The lunch.special was enjoyed by both of us. Seafood gumbo not so much. Lacking flavor. The view from the dining room over the water was appreciated on a cold day where we could not seat on their spacious deck by the water. Fast courteous service and samples if the draft beer helped our visit to be wonderful.

Another successful nutrient heaven experience at big daddies with the smoke tune dip for an appetizer and the blackened fish wrap with sweet potato fries not to mention the chocolate whip pie. Fat man heaven!

Twice in the past 2 weeks we traveled to the Fish River looking forward to the consistently good - above average- seafood. We noticed new menus, then we noticed a significant price increase. We ordered our beverages and meals... service was good during both visits (a Sunday afternoon busy crowd and a weeknight not-so-busy evening.) Sunday's meals were as tasty as always but with the price increase came less food. When this was mentioned as we paid our bill, we were repeatedly told that each serving is weighed.... that was the response to smaller portions. Tonight, our meals were a blackened shrimp poboy and a Greek Salad with grilled shrimp. The salad was pricey but appealed based on what we are used to. What I expected to be a substantial entrée salad was in reality a side salad-sized portion (i.e., small) with 5 large, very salty grilled shrimp. Iceberg lettuce, 2 thin slices of tomato, 2 thin rings of onion, the usual Greek additions (mediocre Feta, pitted olives, tasteless artichoke hearts) and over-salted grilled shrimp. The poboy was tasty but skimpy on the shrimp. The portion sizes of the sides is noticeably smaller - weighing it must mean "smaller." In a community where above-average seafood restaurants are located, I cannot understand why management would impose both substantial price increases PLUS offer smaller portions. One or the other maybe, but both???? Big disappointment. 'nuff said.

Great big portions to share and take your family. Right on the water you can dock your boat, fill up, & eat and pay for it all on one bill. Margaritas & mixed drinks are not a disappointment. Picnic style benches with plenty of outdoor seating.

Wow. Best fried shrimp I have ever had. Everything was incredible crab claws, cole slaw, fries and hush puppies. Sat outside by the river and watched the Pelicans. Fabulous!

I was in Fairhope for a job interview, and rather than spending a night alone in a hotel, I opted for a seafood outing. Sunday nights, however, are not very conducive to providing choice in this department. Enters Yelp. Turns out the only seafood place within miles of Fairhope that's open Sunday night at 7 is Bid Daddy's. Why not, I told myself. I've got nothing else going except the tv in the hotel room, and wow if that's not depressing after a breakup. So I made the drive, and man was it worth it. Normally, I go for healthier fair, but the fried baskets sounded wonderful. (We all know there's nothing like going through a personal crisis to make you leave the high horse on which you sit and head for a fried food feast. Admit it, fellow food snobs. We've all done it.) I'm not a huge eater, either, so I followed another Yelper's advice and ordered a child's basket. Okay, so I got two of them, but it was still smaller than one regular basket.he fried crab claws and blackened fish (I'm not a true foodie; I can't remember what kind.) THIS is the way to order food here. You'll save a couple of bucks, and unless you like a suitcase full of food, you'll be more than full with this route. The crab claws were excellent. The blackened fish, extremely flavorful. Slaw was decent. Onion rings were fine but not spectacular. I'd get the whole thing again, though, in a heartbeat. In short, if you're in Fairhope and are up for seafood, this is a great choice. Particularly if you need to medicate with fried food.

We shared a basket of blue crab claws and they were delicious. It came with cole slaw, sweet potato fries and onion rings which were great. The mile high pie was wonderful as a finish. The view of Fish River out of the windows and from the deck was spectacular. We will be back!

Great food and great ambiance. We came on a Sunday afternoon, when they were playing live music. The ingredients were fresh and the flavors were pretty good. We'll definitely be back!

Very relaxing riverfront dining! Great service. .. indoors or outdoor seating. Food is plentiful! My husband and I ordered the Big Daddy's seafood basket and it was plenty for the 2 of us. We also ordered the fried Dill pickles, yum! We will be back!

  • Emily H.

The only bad thing I have to say is that anything fried tasted way over salted. I had the fried catfish that came with hush puppies. My husband had the fried crab claws. Service was good and the view was pretty. I might go back again but probably not anytime soon.

  • Craig R.

Wicked Awesome! (If you're from New England, like me, that is a very good thing.) Service was great and the food was excellent and plentiful. Unfortunately, neither of us had room for desert. We both loved the Hush Puppies. Many restaurants treat Hush Puppies as something to just fill a hole on your plate. Big Daddy's pays them just as much attention as their fabulous Blackened Shrimp and Fried Oysters. We truly enjoyed our meal and will return before we move on down the road.

To be perfectly honest, I fount this place on Yelp after exhausting nearly every other possibility (other places had waaay too long of a wait). During this past 4th of July, I wanted to find some local sea-food in a place with great atmosphere, good pricing, and a little off the beaten path. Big Daddy's Grill met all of those expectations. My wife and I made a party of 2, and they were able to sit us immediately, although right by the kitchen entrance/exit. This actually worked to our advantage, as every single passing waitress/server continued to ask us if we needed anything and offered genuine interest with smiles galore. It should be noted that their interest in our dining experience did not become annoying or bothersome. They seemed to know how often each other had talked with us, and were careful to not annoy us with their inquiries. My wife and I both ordered split po' boys. She had the shrimp and soft-shell crab, while I opted for the crawfish and softshell variety. She had the onion rings and I went with the fries. We also ordered the fried crab claw appetizer (1/4 lb), which was absolutely delicious, and in retrospect, made me glad I had not ordered the 1/2 lb, which would have been way too much for 2 people. As it were, the portions were huge (though my wife's half with the shrimp could have used more qty) They had live music playing, as they do on the weekends, I guess, and while it was quality, it was entirely too loud for the space they had. This is pretty much the sole reason to keep them from a 5-star review. I often couldn't hear my wife speaking at all, even though we were practically shouting. Thankfully, the duo took multiple breaks, which allowed us a chance to converse without the need for a bull-horn. Overall, the quality of the food was fantastic (though the foodie in me would have liked a less 'peppery' batter for the fried food, which every source-food shares-LET THE FOOD SPEAK FOR ITSELF!) and the portions were well in alignment with the prices being asked. I know this review is lengthy, but it deserves a reading just as the experience at Big Daddy's Grill deserves a chance.

Very good food, quick service and generous potions. I definitely should have taken them up on the adult ordering a kids portion! My husband said it was one of his best PO-boys since New Orleans. I had the fried shrimp which were big and not over breaded. The kids had fish and chicken which were also good. Definitely casual and kid friendly. Kids menu included drinks which rarely happens these days. We came early because of hungry kids, it was getting much more crowded by the time we left at 6. Would come back again.

Stopped by on tip from near by friends. Really enjoyed the shrimp basket. Best I've had. Came back several times over month of November. Ask Jack about their Pumpkin Turtle Pie too. The best ever. We'll be back in spring for more great food and drink. Thanks to your whole crew.

It was your basic fried food basket place. Great crab claws! Service was friendly but oysters were fried to hard.

I was staying at the Point Clear Grand Marriott and this restaurant was recommended by a friend of my wife. She recommended this place based on the sandbox to keep the kiddos busy while the adults enjoyed a few cold beverages. So, I'll be honest and say that I don't think my review is indicative of the normal dining experience at Big Daddy's. Early afternoon in late July on the Gulf Coast is normally above 90 degrees and 100% humidity. Luckily for us, a high pressure system had moved in, bringing historic low temps and humidity levels. This weather phenomena created an ideal setting for outside dining in the cool, crisp summer air overlooking the Fish River. I ordered the Half Gumbo, Half Blackened Shrimp Po Boy. The meal was good not great and I thought the portions were a little on the small side for the price. My wife ordered the grilled Mahi and I had entree envy for the entirety of the meal. Her meal was perfection and I highly recommend this dish to other diners. The kids had a grilled cheese and fried shrimp. Their meals were very reasonably priced and included a drink. All told, I walked away about $50 lighter in wallet but satisfied with the venue and the experience.

Been coming to the coast for years and just found this place. Well worth the drive! Grilled shrimp and crab cakes were awesome! Although I was full I was "persuaded" to do dessert...the blueberry pie was incredible!

Loved this place! I travel for my job all over the world. I use Yelp all the time, but this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review. When first arriving, I asked the host if I could sit outside on the stools facing the water. For parties of 1 or 2, this is an ideal location. You feel the breeze of the air, smell the familiar scent of boat gasoline, and enjoy beautiful views of the lake filled with happy families. Now let me tell you, I live in St. Louis, and this place truly makes me want to move to a lake and feel this happy everyday. I ordered the fried pickles and the kids portion of the crab claws. The fried pickles were tasty, addictive in fact, but the portion was so huge I had to fill up a whole box with my leftovers! The crab claws were amazing. Anyone who doesn't know what this is, they crack the shell off of smaller crab claws, batter the claw, then fry it! Yum! I loved the spicy cocktail sauce it came with. The tarter sauce was also great! I'm leaving here with a full tummy and a big smile. Please give this place a chance! Yes it's in the middle of no where, but the drive to this place from downtown Fairhope is actually beautiful. Whether you're into nature or huge mansions, it really is a nice drive here. So go get an adult size of those amazing crab claws! Right now!! Oh, and it should be noted that my waitress, Jessica P, was a delight. She was polite, warm, and made me feel right at home. Thanks for having such a great restaurant!!!

First experience here was excellent! Walked in the back and they treated us like we were home. Said, "if you want to be seated inside the hostess stand is that way and if you want to hang outside here with us then pick a table and we will bring you some menus!" Drinks are fair prices. Food is fairly well priced and the server had suggestions on what to order and her choices were excellent! We will be back for sure for the atmosphere. Live music, great view, great drinks and food... What else could you want???

Great down south river front dining for the whole family. There is an indoor seating section seperate from the indoor bar area which features a sitting area with couches & a big screen. There are 2 outdoor sitting sections. 1 has a huge fireplace for winter nights & the other sits right next to the sand box for the kids. On game nights, the football game will be playing & the atmosphere is great. There also is a band playing on a good night. There is a marina as well as a dock to pull up to for quick pick ups. The service is great & always friendly. The food is good & similar to most all other places in the area. The owner will sometimes come sit & talk & he seems to be a pretty cool fellow. Drinks are a little pricey but that seems to be everywhere now.

I miss the French fries you used to serve! Crab claws are excellent. The new fries are a step backwards though. Still like to go here a few times a month. Tia place has a good vibe to it.

We went to Big Daddy's several weeks ago on a dreary and rainy week night -- even so, we enjoyed being seated by the window with a view of the river. I had a Big Daddy Burger with onion rings and my husband had a soft shell crab po' boy with fries. We both enjoyed our meals and the portions were huge! We'll definitely return to enjoy the cozy ambience, friendly service and great food.
