Now this is a pretty neat place! Yes, I, the one who does not care for fried foods, will not turn away a piece of Champ's chicken. Think Gus' in Memphis but in a better environment and with more options. There is a full bar. The location is easy to access and leave. The tamales - good try! Nothing can beat a Clarksdale, MS or Helena, AR tamale, but these are as close as I have found and the sauce is just right. The sides and apps are good, plentiful and memorable. This is the sort of place I will take my out-of-town guests to get a break from our daily seafood routine and get a taste of the local life here on the Eastern Shore.

Hadn't been in a while so I stopped by late on a Saturday night. Chicken was served piping hot and it was pretty good. It could have used a little more seasoning but it was still very good.

I've been here 3 times and each time they were consistent with food and service. Food is cooked to order, so it's always fresh and hot. Reasonable prices. It's not a huge place, but you can always find a seat. If you like blues, you'll hear always playing.

Wow. The chicken is cooked to perfection with a great blend of spices. Top notch all the way. Will definitely come back. We had the sides of beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. They were both done perfectly. Yum.

This place is awesome! I love their fried chicken. I ate at the famous Willie May's Scotch House in New Orleans last week and I like Champy's chicken better! I love how they turned a relatively new building into what feels like a cool dive. I love the blues and classic rock that they play coupled with sports on all the tv's. The girls that wait on you are sweet and very attentive; not to mention easy on the eyes. Champy's has a grown up feel to it but I see plenty of children accompany their parents there. On Sunday you better get their early or after 2:00 PM. The Eastern Shore folks like their fried chicken after church. The tamales are real good as well. I like the coleslaw because it's not to sweet tasting. Brew, Blues and Bird! This place rocks!!!!

Service was excellent! Food was fresh and made to order which is always a plus! The Tamales are amazing! We ordered a dozen to take with us! Chicken strips are meaty, I liked the breaking and they were piping hot. Baked beans have three different beans and homemade, a little sweet but tasty! I loved the coleslaw and was a perfect side for the chicken and for the tamales. Terry had two piece data snack with french fries, he really liked the fried chicken, wasn't over greasy, it was crispy and perfect amount of seasoning! Really impressed, we will be back the next time we are coming through Daphne!! Hint: if you have a hard time finding Champy's it is beside Little Cesar's

Some of the best fried chicken you'll find anywhere, at prices that will leave you and your wallet satisfied. Yes, Champy's fried chicken rivals the world-famous Willie Mae's in New Orleans, at a fraction of the price. The sides are equally as good, especially the mashed potatoes and green beans. What they lack in atmosphere (strip mall location & plastic cutlery), they more than make up for with quality. The coating on this chicken is seriously over-the-top amazing!

Oh, just order a family platter....It's a dive-y, little place that has amazing food, nothing I have ordered there has been boring. The chicken is cooked to order, flavorful, fresh and tender..The sides, just pick anything, you can't go wrong. I have no idea about dessert, I've never made it that far the grease bread is dessert enough.

Champy's has the best fried chicken on the ES. Hand's down. Their chicken fingers are excellent and never dry. The batter on their fried chicken is the bomb. Love the coleslaw and baked beans, too.

This place is awesome. Amazing food. Wish they would get in to the football season a little more. TV are quiet. Other wise must try place for chicken!

Great food and service. Atmosphere is cool and the drink selection is big. Sausage, cheese, and pickle plate is great to start with and we always get the family meals to go with it. Great place.

I can cook anything except fried chicken. Thankfully, Champy's is right down the road so I don't have to. They serve up three of my favorite things: brew, bird and the blues (in that order). Although I don't think the chicken is as good as my favorite fried chicken in my hometown, it's still very good, juicy and crispy, and I don't have to go traipsing through the hood to get it. The sides, on the other hand - oh em gee! Champy's has the best sides! The baked beans are not your typical baked beans, and they're worth letting my husband eat beans before we go to bed. The mashed potatoes and potato salad are great too. The tamales are small but on point. The service is friendly and quick, and the prices are reasonable. There's a cool little bar in there with bottles and draft. It fits right in with the laid back atmosphere. It goes without saying that I've found my favorite chicken joint on the Alabama coast!

Chicken was moist and good. Fried jalapenos were also good. Everything was a bit greasy but that's kinda expected with fried foods. Lovely service, though. Good atmosphere.

The best fried chicken I have ever had. The mash potatoes and green beans are to die for. My only suggestion would be for them to use real silverware instead of plastic.

It was really good chicken, not spicy, average size pieces ( unlike other review stated ) beans were good as were the fries. $2.00 PBR Draught beer was ice cold. My meal was $9.95. It was the 3 pc white and 2 sides. It took exactly 19 minutes from time of order to table. I knew they cooked to order and was fine with this. We were practically the only people ordering too, so I assume this is a best case scenario. I prefer Popeye's spicy over this, but I enjoyed having an adult beverage with my meal. Service was good while we had full glasses, but not so much when I needed a refill. Seems another couple had the waitstaff's attention at the bar with their amusing tales. Not complaining mind you, as all I had to do would have been to turn around and get her attention. Wifey had fried chicken salad ($7.95) and said it was good. Nothing to hype about, but good. It was all very fresh and hot. Had to open the chicken up to let it cool down for a minute. One thing that I would recommend to the management is to have your table hops wipe down all the condiment containers, as everyone that handles them has some form of sticky biz on their hands. This was a major turn off to grab something with your clean hands and feel the stickiness from prior patrons. Four stars for freshness, taste, cold brew-sky.

They do it well Not much of a menu but what they do they do very well. The chicken is as good as any you will find and the tamales are an unexpected treat. Great service as well.

Delicious, hot, fresh fried chicken. Warning: it will take a short bit to get your food as they cook it fresh when you order it. No old, dry chicken that's been sitting around for hours. But it's totally worth it. Seating is a bunch of random tables and chairs, but it makes for a cozy, laid back atmosphere.

There is nothing like a fried chicken craving. And nothing satisfies it like Champy's in Daphne, AL. Some days my car just knows it's fried chicken day and without any direction from me, it pulls into the parking lot. I almost always order just a breast and a side because every piece is huge! It's also made to order, so pull up a stool at the bar or a seat on the patio and enjoy a draft beer and some conversation while you're waiting. All the sides are great, but especially the mashed potatoes and gravy. Oh, and the cole slaw. It's just like Mom's.

I've had lots of fried chicken from lots of different people and restaurants, but this is the best ever. Tamales were surprisingly good too.

If you know fried chicken, you know Gus' in Memphis. This place is EVERY BIT AS GOOD AND MORE. WOW! It is worth the drive from Mobile. The chicken is hot!!! Tasty!!! And service was friendly. More importantly, they serve the chicken like its supposed to be served: On white bread. Sides were good. And beer is available in tall-boys. Don't miss this place.

Champy's has great fried chicken. I always get the same thing when I go and it's always consistently great. It sometimes takes a while since they fry the chicken fresh, but it's well worth the wait. The breading is always nice and crispy. The pieces of chicken are always fairly large and you'll definitely leave full.

Contrary to your beliefs.. I do not eat a lot of fried chicken..but holy #^@&$!!!! That is some good chicken. I had the two piece dinner with slaw and baked beans and sweet tea. You can't get any more southern than that. Def worth a try if you are ever in Daphne, AL.. (I don't eat watermelon either)

my favorite place to eat in Balwin County. The service is outstanding and the food is even better. It is fresh never frozen, they put som emajor love into the food. The wings are OMG good. I also had their tamales and they are again OMG good. The prices are great for the portions you get and the Champys brew.... you cant beat $2 pints of ice cold goodness. This place is a MUST. GO PATRIOTS

Probably the best fried chicken I've had. Don't expect to get it as fast as KFC but if you catch a peak in the kitchen you can actually see them breading and fying your chicken... doesn't get much more fresh than that!

Needing to get away from the Fat Tuesday parades we decided to try this place out. That being said I'm not a big fried chicken fan but my wife is and finding out that they served Tamales I didn't put up a fight. I ordered the Tamales and they were great! Certainly not the best I have ever had but the best around Mobile and Baldwin counties that I've had. The fried chicken that my wife got was delicious and she thought so as well. The chicken was fresh, juicy, crispy and hot. We also ordered some of the fried jalapeno rings, they were lightly dusted in flour and not over battered which I loved because you got more of the jalapeno flavor. They have a full bar about 4 or 5 tap beers and a wide variety of bottled beer. After we finished our meal I asked my wife what she thought and she said it was great. I know she loves popeyes spicy chicken which is her favorite , so I asked her which she liked better and this is what she said : she liked the taste of Popeyes better but preferred the atmosphere at Champy's. In conclusion, I would highly recommend Champy's so you could form your own opinion on the chicken as it's a nice change from Popeyes and kentucky fried chicken. Champy's is also moderately priced and causal. We will definitely be returning to eat here, Maybe even when they are boiling up crawfish. Not sure of the day or price on when that happens..

My brother told me about this place and I am so glad that he did! The fried chicken here is TO DIE FOR and their tamales are awesome, too. It is a very friendly, casual, and family friendly place. Try it! You will not be disappointed!

My family and I recently moved from San Francisco to Daphne, AL. Because we are in the south now, we decided we needed to try to find REAL southern fried chicken - and this is the place! We've been to several chicken restaurants in the last month, including Lambert's, and have not found food or service of the quality we found at Champy's. We started out with the fried pickle spears and a couple drinks from the bar - AH-mazing pickles! The batter was fantastic and the pickle spears taste homemade! And for $5 a drink, the rum and Coke's were large, cold, and spot on. Our kids had chicken strips baskets with fries and said that they had never had fries so crispy and perfect - chicken had the same fantastic batter as the pickles, too! I had the two-piece white meal with mashed potatoes (REAL mashed potatoes!) and green beans (they had onions and bacon in them - delish!) and my husband had the same with cole slaw and baked beans. He said the cole slaw was pretty average for cole slaw, but the baked beans were great. Above all else, the service was amazing. Real, true, southern hospitality. Our waitress was quick to smile and laugh with us, super helpful, and completely on top of refills and anything else we needed. Overall, this place is pretty special and we plan on making this one of our usual dining spots. Check it out -you won't be disappointed!

The best chicken on the Gulf Coast. Sides were excellent as well. The tamales stole the show, though. Service was friendly and all set in a cool atmosphere. Nice selection of beer and liquor available in multiple sizes. Nice job!!

It wasn't what I had expected. I drove 8 miles to get some southern fry chicken and its just like popeyes. I'm from SoCal and I eat the same type of chicken at Churches fried chicken. Same taste same batter. This place is over rated.

My husband and I love this place! They fry the chicken when you order it..so you are not getting chicken that has been sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long. It's always juicy, hot (sometimes too hot) and delicious! The batter isnt heavy but light and crisp. The french fries are crispy and spiced just right. I always get the three piece dark meal with mashed potatoes and green beans. Their green beans remind me of the green beans my grandmother made with bacon pieces and onion. The mashed potatoes are freshly made and the brown gravy is good. I have heard the tamales are good but I have yet to try them. We also enjoy the conecuh sausage, cheese, and pickle appetizer. They sprinkle it with a cayenne pepper spice that adds a nice kick to the cheese and sausage..make sure you request crackers..they dont give them to you unless you ask. The wait staff is always fast and courteous and the blues are always playing on the jukebox. Never a disappointing experience.

We go to Champy's every Sunday for lunch. The atmosphere is great with blues in the background (not too loud!), so we don't mind waiting the extra time it takes for our chicken to be prepared from scratch and then served fresh and piping hot. I always eat half my meal and save half for lunch on Monday. The portions are enormous. I don't know where they find the chickens, but the pieces are HUGE. The sides and appetizers are also great. Awesome baked beans, and to die for fried jalapeños.
