Good Food. Good Service. Visited today with my family for Saturday Brunch. Ordered the Chicken & Waffle, Chicken & Pancakes, & 2-egg Omelette. Had the Homemade Lemonade & Homemade Tropical Splash to drink. The Homemade Syrup is awesome according to my oldest daughter. We all agree with her assessment.

My co-workers and I decided to go to lunch here today. I like the decor, motif and music of the restaurant and feel that it's trendy but intimate at the same time. I love the fact that they didn't skimp on putting their brand on the cups and the wrappings. Little things like that are impressive to me. Because I don't eat wings and I'm not a fish lover, I ordered the BBQ Burger. Overall, the sandwich was good, but nothing to write home about. My coworkers enjoyed their plates, especially the one that ordered the shrimp and grits. I was deeply disappointed because they were out of peach cobbler, even though it was advertised. I would like to go back to try one of the meal of the day specials next time. Maybe I'll have better luck with those dishes. I'll also go back for brunch one Saturday when it's offered.

The food and the service are just amazing! We had the special of the day- gouda and bacon stuffed pork chops... PHENOMENAL! So tender! And the price was beyond reasonable. Will definitely be back any time we're in Birmingham :)

Friendly, family atmosphere with great service & food. We loved the fried shrimp, fried fish & shrimp tacos. A must try in Birmingham!

The vibrant colors drew me inside but the sweet southern aroma of my Big Mama's Sunday cooking kept me there. The first time I went I had the tilapia dinner which was breaded and fried perfectly, and I went into a different realm with the first and last bite. Today I had the Chicken and waffles and my reaction was the same as the first time I went. I highly recommend this place! Oh wait they have this punch that is so delicious!!!!!!

Such a cute place. Love the food. Love the atmosphere, so homely. This place was packed during lunch time. I ordered the grilled shrimp tacos, and they were awesome! So much flavor. The tacos came with rice and beans, also very delicious. The serving size was perfect. They also have a daily special, so would definitely try that next time. Will definitely go back!

I had the meal of the day: fried pork chops, green beans, macaroni & cheese. The flavors were solid, and the mac & cheese was on point. The pork chop tasted great, and I loved the seasoning on the breading; however, the meat was slightly overlooked and chewy. The homemade lemonade, sweet tea, and tropical splash drinks were all strong choices. The decor and the location are authentic. Service is good. My buddy ordered the bbq burger and he thought it was great. I was there at 10:30 AM when they opened. I was disappointed they hadn't yet made the cobbler which was featured on the menu. I was also disappointed the meal of the day advertised collard greens, but I had to settle for green beans. Nonetheless, for a short order kitchen, they did pretty well. 30 minutes after opening the doors, nearly all of the tables were full. The other critiques notwithstanding, if my pork chop had been cooked to the right temperature, I would have given 5 stars. This is a good place.

Great food. Stopped here after flying in from Florida. I love how they used all of the original textures of the building in the design of the floor space. Simple but pleasant decor. The shrimp tacos were my favorite. Great flavor. Everything homemade from scratch. If i had to do it again i would go for the chicken and waffles. They kept coming by me and they looked fantastic. You can tell this is a family owned and run restaurant. They take pride in their work and strive to make sure you are enjoying your meal. When it's hard to find a seat at a restaurant you know they are doing something right. Only reason for 4 stars was the sweet tea was a little too sweet for this Michigan/Florida boy. It was almost like drinking log cabin pancake syrup but i know this is how they do it in the South so its my fault. Yo' Mama -- Kudo's to you and your team!!!

Crystal was such a fantastic host. She made me feel like I was eating food at her house and even told me that she had their incredible chocolate as her birthday cake this May. Do not step outside their doors without trying it. My mind was blown.

I was in Birmingham on a layover and found this place in the historic district on Yelp. The Chicken and Waffles are great!!!! Great service ( Crystal ) and great atmosphere! I'll be back.

I was looking around for some chicken and waffles and I think I found the best ones I've ever had. The cheese grits were also really good. The staff was very friendly and came by and talked to us. I highly recommend this place!

arrived about 12:30pm Nice and clean. Not real big but big enough for a lunch crowd aiming to get in and out. Pretty good crowd on hand to check out this new spot. Order your food at the register and then seat yourself. There were no tables available when I ordered but as I waited for the food a table became available. It was a small two seater for two of us, but it was the only open spot. Ordered the shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles. Asked for the wings to be buffalo. We waited. A four top table became available so we switched tables and still waited. Ordered sweet tea and the house punch, both come with free refills. Once I went to the drink station they were out of tea so we both drank the punch. The punch was extremely sweet so be prepared. As we waited, the waitress came to let us know they were out of shrimp and grits, so i went with the chicken and waffles also. the syrup arrived first and it wasn't your typical syrup. Homeade and was actually quite tasty. 6 plump wingettes atop a fluffy waffle looked amazing. he taste was just as delightful. Seasoned, hot, crisp chicken. But it was not buffalo. I was not about to wait for it to be corrected. Drawbacks : the wait time, being out of dishes offered on the limited menu during peak time, no sweet tea, running out punch while we were there so no refills, not recognizing the order was incorrect, limited hours. Buuuuut, the food was excellent so i will be back

Had the signature Chicken and Waffels - fantastic. The waffels with perfect, served with fresh fruit. The syrup they use was perfect for the waffles. The chicken wings were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of breading and seasoned just right! Can't wait to go back to this little Gem! Go Mama!

Great food! I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf with cheesy mashed potatoes. I still had some left to finish it off tonight. Great menu... Great space and Mamma is actually the one cooking in the kitchen! I will be back and next time I'm getting deserts.

Lunch with coworkers here was great. Fast and very friendly counter style service. Hot wing's I ordered were fried crispy with a mildly spicy and tangy sauce with fresh cut fries. Get there early for lunch because it fills up fast!

Came here for lunch and the food was served promptly. The tacos were good, but I thought the rice and black beans could've been more flavorful. I added the cumin sauce that came with the tacos and it was all good. The service is amazing. Not to pushy and not to distant. Overall I'm impressed and will return.

Cute place. You order at the counter and they provide table service. Place was packed with lots of people ordering the take out. There are a few tables outdoors but the turn around was fairly reasonable. We managed to grab a table for 4 before our food was ready. Their gluten-free waffle is the BEST...and the syrup was sweet and buttery. Wings are good too and their fried shrimp. Drinks were overly sweet though and staff seemed a bit overwhelmed by the constant flow of people. Wish we had the place in Atlanta.

Only been here for Saturday breakfast which they only do twice a month but it is a must go. Everything is made to order. The chicken and waffles are amazing. Can't imagine any better. The chicken wings are perfectly fried and moist. Waffle is crispy on the outside and melt in your mouth I the middle. And the house made syrup is to die for. I even put some on the cheese grits which were excellent. Atmosphere is great and relaxing. Love the place.

Off the hook. I came to the soft opening last week and everybody was so nice. There were a couple of mistakes (my food took a long time to be prepared and came out with the wrong tortillas) BUT today they are firing on all cylinders. The BBQ burger was delicious and came out before I was expecting it. But best of all the people are so nice and welcoming that you'll feel like Crystal's Mama is YO Mama too.

Mediocre at best. The service was extremely poor, the food came over the course of 45 mins, the fries were soggy, the shrimp was overlooked and the batter wasn't great.

Delicious lunch!!! My husband and I stopped here unexpectedly and ordered the bar-b-que burger for him and the shrimp and grits for me. Both were fantastic. My husband, a confirmed grits hater, kept saying how wonderful the grits were and finished off my large bowl. He said, "I wish Yo' Mama, was my mama!"

During art walk a couple of months ago Yo' Mama's was handing out free pound cake, I was hooked the moment I ate it and I couldn't wait for the official opening. I finally went for lunch today and it looks like everyone else had the same idea. I have to say they handled the crowd really well since they have only officially been open 4 days. We got our food in a reasonable amount of time and everything was good. My boyfriend got the shrimp and grits which he said was good. They could have used a little more seasoning but they devein their shrimp so that makes up for it. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. I wasn't able to try the fresh squeezed lemonade since they were out, that's my only complaint!

You can go healthy (grilled shrimp or fish tacos) or for the gusto (fried chicken and waffle). Either way you will not be disappointed. Friendly professional staff to boot!

Found this great little family-owned spot while visiting Birmingham. I had the chicken and waffles - amazing! It came with a Belgian waffle and 6 pieces of chicken - a mixture of wings and drummetes. There was also an option to add fresh berries and house made whipped cream. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and complimented by a delicious syrup with a little something extra in it that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Of course, I asked what was in it and as expected they declined to tell me the secret ingredient. (I was simply told, "I don't know. My mom makes it." ) Overall, great food and fast, friendly service. If ever in Birmingham, I'll definitely come here again!

I had the privilege to preview the awesome chicken and waffles on Friday morning. This will definitely be a signature of this establishment. And the homemade syrup is to live for. Chicken seasoned to perfection.

Not only was the staff incredibly nice, the food was the best I've had in a while. You can taste the love in every bite and it is a great addition to 2nd Ave. Keep up the good work, guys. I'll definitely be back.

Delicious food, uber friendly staff, well-designed space. My husband, a chef, is equally as excited about their glutinous food as I am about their gluten-free options. We were drawn to the burgers, which are amazing! The gluten free bun is crazy good. My hubby got to sample my son's waffle and said he wishes he had their recipe and wants to know how they make their syrup. They let us sample chicken wings, and yum! I look forward to going back for chicken and waffles!

Our first time eating here we were blown away. The food is wonderful and fresh. I could say the same thing about the staff. Everyone was so nice. The only reason for 4 stars was the wait for our food took a little longer than we had hoped, but it was probably because everything was so freshly prepared. Can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu!

I've never been more happy to wait for food. Every chance I get, I'm coming to Yo Mama's for lunch. I'm going to try the whole menu. That's if I ever can get beyond the chicken and waffles. Those wings may be the best I've ever eaten.

It is rare to find gluten free restaurants in Birmingham. Yo' Mama's is a fantastic new option! We had the GF chicken and waffles and it was delicious. We will be coming back to try the rest of the GF menu while we are in town!
