The food is ok, not stellar. But who are you kidding, you don't come here for the food as much as the view. It is serene and peaceful. I will admit thought the 2 guys that are running the place are more than helpful and friendly. This is a place that you will come back many times for the view.

Really basic menu with decent food but the view is awesome. Order from a counter then carry outside to eat.

It's a hilltop diner. Burgers, dogs, corn dogs, chicken tenders and fries. It's not fancy, but the view is amazing, the staff is very friendly and the view is amazing. Looking out over the valley, we watched a hawk below us. If you want a fun little stop and a quick bite, it's definitely worth a visit.

The food is basic but well done. And you really can't beat the view. I must say though that the place needs a deep cleaning. The kitchen is clean and service is quick but it's hard to get past the filth of the dining areas. Mustard and ketchup bottles are crusty and greasy. The napkin dispensers are rarely filled and try not to look down. The floors seem to be shellacked with food.

Great price and great views. Nothing fancy but an easy cheap and good breakfast / lunch spot.

Great little spot to grab a bite. We were on our way through town and thanks to yelp we found this place with great views, above average inexpensive food and a patio where we could sit with our pups! That's an all around win for our needs this morning. The sandwiches are a little small but really yummy. I had the BLT and the hubs had a ham egg and cheese. We also split a small biscuit and gravy. It was the perfect amount of food. The b& gravy was $1.95 and the sandwiches were about 3 to 4 bucks. The sandwiches are only about the size of the palm of your hand so I recommend the additional side. The BLT had a lot of crispy crunchy salty perfect bacon and the lettuce was romaine instead of boring old iceberg. Big plus right there. They open early for breakfast and are open till 7pm. It would be a great place to grab a burger and watch the sunset. Come by here. It is worth it.

Most people flock to this place for the amazing view and ample outdoor seating but the food is also some great classic Americana standards. There a multiple hot dog options such as chili, kraut, and plain old fashioned mustard. The hamburgers are not to be missed either. You don't want to skip out on this place.

View was a 5, food was a 2 There was really nothing special about the burgers or the fries and the menu was very limited. We enjoyed the view, but not really worth going back.

Great place for a quick lunch. Burgers, hotdogs and chicken fingers. Breakfast isn't bad either. Can't beat the view of the valley.

So good. I go here nearly every time I drive past on my way to or from Boulder Fields. The food is tasty and greasy like a hole-in-the-wall burger place should be. Relatively well priced, but if anything go by there since they've extended their hours to 7 pm. That way you can catch a sunset and dinner from Shades Crest even in the summer. The view is what makes this place special. When I bring friends here, they always can't believe they've never been before. Don't be that friend. Go and eat here and enjoy the view of the valley and the food from a small local restaurant in an old converted gas station.

Tip Top Grill is the best! The menu is very basic, but sometimes that's just what I'm looking for. Located in the heart of Bluff Park right beside Lover's Leap, this one time gas station now serves up hot dogs, burgers, fries, and apparently soon to be more (hopefully not too much more!). The view from Tip Top is enough to want to go there, but the food is great as well. My favorite is the slaw dog, but the regular hot dog (with whatever fixins you desire) is delicious as well. You also can't beat the price - lunch under $5 in Birmingham seems to be unheard of.

Even though I've been here a hundred times, I was waiting on them to earn that fifth star before I wrote a review. Today was my introduction to $1 Hot dog Monday, so they did. Bluff Park is a beautiful, historic area anyway. Throw in an old converted gas station, the best views in Birmingham, and some all-American food, and you've got the reasons that Tip Top is a must see. It's the kind of view that you could stare at for hours and wish you had hours more. If it wasn't all good enough, they apparently have a new owner that's about to freshen the whole place up and ad some healthy menu items. I put this spot on my top five places to see in Birmingham.

Good burgers at a great price. It's a Bluff Park staple and one of those places that the locals support and love. Parking can be difficult but it's worth it!

We visited Tip Top Grill for lunch today at about 2:00 P.M. We were the only ones there and service was very fast. This place has a wonderful view and should be visited by everyone in Birmingham at least once. Inside was not very clean, but the grill area was and the health rating was 96 on this day. Counter help/grill attendants were very pleasant. We both had cheeseburgers, drinks and fries. The cheeseburgers were good, but not spectacular. Fries were the crinkle cut, mass-produced frozen variety and had way too much salt, but were freshly prepared. Drink mix is average, but has enough syrup and CO2. We would go back here again. I most liked the view and the unique atmosphere. I least liked the overall uncleanliness, especially the floor. But, overall I was pleased with the restaurant.

What an awesome little spot. The view alone is worth the trip. Food is super cheap, great for a quick family stop. Sit outside on a sunny day and even bring the pup, they're very dog friendly!! From time to time they have live music on Friday afternoons--great spot to enjoy the sunset. Staff is friendly, food is quick--nothing to complain about. This is a place you need to experience.

Great little spot to eat. Good service and the view is awesome. Totally worth the detour on my roadtrip...

I love repurposed buildings, and gas stations turned restaurants are high on that list. A former gas station serving dogs, burgers, and fries at bargain prices? That would be enough to get my business and 4 stars, but add in the epic panoramic sunset views of the Shannon/Oxmoor Valley/Ross Bridge area and this is a Birmingham must.

I've lived in bluff park ever since preschool and going to Tip Top has always been one of my favorite things. The views are wonderful, the employees are always so nice and it's just a great hang out spot. I would highly recommend it to anyone of any age.

Awesome view and super people. Breakfast was inexpensive and great. Came back for lunch same day.... burger was good, fries were good and cheese fries rocked!

Tip Top Grill is a local gem with a LOT going for it. The very best things about it are the views which are spectacular, the super casual comfy atmosphere (sit outside and eat on picnic tables) and the fact that it is a locally owner business. Another positive for me is that the folks at Tip Top Grill are comfortable in simply being who they are and doing what they do. As for the food, it is average...not bad...just not really special either. BUT, this is a roadside burger/hot dog stand. The offerings are basic, but they are served quickly and are not pricy at all. Go for the experience. Choose a pretty day and enjoy the great views and the fun of dining outside.

What makes this place worth going to is the view. If I based my review off the food, it would only be two stars. The burgers are not spectacular. Frozen patties heated up on the grill sums it up. It's worth trying at least once, but don't expect it to be the best burger you've ever eaten. However, do expect it to be one of the most beautiful views :)

Looking for a breakfast place in Hoover and stumbled upon this gem. Not an impressive sight and also small in size but the breakfast food was spot on. We will be heading back when it's warmer so we can sit outside and enjoy the view while we eat.

Wonderful, Beautiful, Lovely location and views. Food is typical greasy burger joint food freshly cooked- nothing more nothing less. People working there were very accommodating and friendly. Prices are in keeping with the location in historic Bluff Park. Nice place to stop and say that you've been - maybe even get theT-shirt.

Fantastic hot dogs. Great view while you eat for under 5 bucks a person. If you are less lazy then I am then get out there for breakfast. New management seems to be adding some interesting menu items and expanding the hours, both of which should only improve an already great place.

You pay for the view. The food is alright but very cheap and the view is spectacular. Plus the owner was really nice as well.

Great view of the Ross Bridge Golf Course & the Shannon Valley to the West. I'd recommend stopping just to look at the view at this gas station and restaurant. The hot dogs were weak. I got chili dogs, and they barely put any chili on them. For food in the area, go across the street to Bluff Park Diner Meat & Three.

Little hamburger and hot dog joint with a fantastic view.... Menu is very limited and most seating is outside but the view more than makes up for the shortcomings. Nice place to take an out of towner for a quick bite.

An old gas station converted into a killer hot dog and burger joint. It has a large amount of patio seating and over looks the Shannon valley. It is the only place in Birmingham that I can find that serves Vienna beef hot dogs! I highly recommend this place for a quick lunch if you are in the area. Don't forget to go by the ATM because they only take cash.

Good food and the best view in Birmingham! This is yet another reason I love living in Bluff Park!

Tiny place but amazing views. Food was good. Not a huge menu but I really enjoyed my burger with sauce and onions, of course! French fries were tasty. Breakfast looks great. Can't wait to come back and try it. Definitely a place to come just for the views. Will be bringing out of towners for sure. Lovers leap is right there as well so wear your sneaks so you can check it out. See picture I posted.

Just go. If not for the food, then the view is worth it. Tip Top Grill has your run of the mill hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken fingers that you can smother and cover in chili, cheese, slaw, sauerkraut, etc. but it's the view that really makes this place special and brag-worthy. Monday night $1 hotdogs are a game changer for sure. I got a chili slaw dog and chili cheese fries (because why not) and they were amazing and just what I wanted. It's an old gas station transformed into a quaint little diner. Go, now!
