Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe puts an American twist on traditional Greek fare. Atmosphere-wise, it's somewhere between your local family-owned Greek restaurant and a Panera bread (fast food and service, but of better quality than a place like McDonalds). The proximity of the location to downtown Birmingham/UAB is a major plus. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. I wasn't too hungry, so I ordered the Mezedes Platter (Hummus and Taziki Dip served with Dolmades and Pita) and a small bowl of Lemon Chicken Soup for myself. Dolmades are hand-rolled grape leaves stuffed with seasoned rice and grilled onions. If it is any indication of how generous the servings are, I still have half of the soup, a bunch of pita, and dip left over from two nights ago! I highly recommend trying the Greek Lemon Chicken Soup. Although it is listed as an appetizer, the Mezedes Platter could be good as a light dinner. The only gripe I had over both of my orders was that they were a bit too salty--especially the Taziki sauce, Dolmades, and the Lemon Chicken Soup. A star off for that. The hummus and pita, on the other hand, were excellent. The Mezedes Platter comes with a heap of baked pita chips, and the soup comes with a side of two soft pita squares (my soft pitas were wrapped around my soup spoon in foil). Service was quick and easy. I called in around 6:30pm. Someone picked up the phone immediately, and there was virtually no wait when I got there. Tip: If you are a UAB employee, you get a free drink!

For deliciously fresh food you can't beat Taziki's. A local favorite for excellent Greek food fit for an expensive restaurant but with quick service. It's a great place to go if you want great food in hurry. My favorite is the Grilled Chicken Feast and the roasted potatoes. They also have a fantastic Herb Roasted Pork Loin that comes with a delicious tomato chutney aioli. For a true Mediterranean flavor, order the Chargrilled Lamb, it's superb! Want to substitute the potatoes? Then try the basmati rice. It's equally delicious. And for a lighter meal, try the Chicken Roll Ups! Very filling and delicious also. And if you save room to satisfy your sweet tooth, you can't go wrong with their desserts, especially the baklava! They also serve a variety of wine and beer, so come hungry, relax and enjoy the great food!

Great location downtown! Never had a problem with my food. I guess my only complaint is that I usually have to call the phone number more than once to get someone to pick up..no matter what time of day it is. However, when they answer they're friendly and always get my order correct.

We go here a lot for lunch. The salads are very large, filling and delicious. Staff isn't always friendly. Get there early if you can or call ahead cause it can get crazy at lunch. The decor is nice. Seating is good. Gets a 3 cause it doesn't meet up to other Greek places that cost about the same.

Great food , nice patio area even on a cloudy day. Walking distance from Benjamin Russell Children's Hospital.

I like this location a lot because it's walking distance to my work (UAB). If you call in your order ahead of time, there's virtually no wait. Also, they give UAB employees a complimentary beverage (nonalcoholic of course), which I appreciate. I would highly recommend the chicken roll ups but pretty much everything is good here!

I love Greek food so I had to check this place out while I was in town. Parking was a little tight. Came around 2 on a Saturday and they were family busy. Took them about 15 minutes to get my lamb gyro. Outdoor and indoor seating. Good atmosphere. Staff was very friendly.

Always delicious catering but the in-restaurant experience is lacking. Food comes out at different times and its difficult to correct an erroneous plate. The lack of a hostess makes lunchtime seating difficult since this is a popular place with the hospital crowd.

There are plenty of healthy, tasty options at Taziki, which is perfect after days of eating hospital food right down the street (there's only so much chicken, potatoes, and greens a woman can eat). I ordered grilled tilapia and sub the rice for more cucumber salad, even though it came with greek salad already. It was super refreshing and I felt like I could actually feel my body thanking me for eating healthy, live, green salad for the first time in two days. lol! I highly recommending Taziki's for a quick lunch if you are in the area. There are desserts like baklava and chocolate cake in little containers by the counters as well that look good, so divert your eyes if you are trying to stay on diet because they will get ya as the last minute. Fortunately, this time around I was strong, but next time... can't be sure of my will power ;)

For such awesome food there service sucks. I waited 45 min for my 2 gyros and saw people that came in and ordered after me leave way before me. I will be trying other locations but this location has a lot to be desired in customer service. I will never revisit the 18th street location again. Save yourself the unorganized mayhem and go somewhere that values there customers.

Healthy, yummy, Greek food fast. Staying by UAB and the outside looks fancy but once you are inside you order at counter, pay and they call your name. Inviting sitting area and great atmosphere for a semi-fast food place. The lemon chicken soup was great. Soothing with lots of chicken and basmati rice. The tilapia was seasoned wonderfully and the Greek salad was large for the side that comes with it. The Greek Tatar sauce was wonderful. Unique dining for UAB area. Yummy. I'll be back.

Cheap, fast and good. Thoroughly Americanized Greek food a bit under flavoured but really fine.

I used to live in Birmingham and my coworkers and I loved going every friday for the Friday Special. It is amazing. I miss it so much and can't find anything like it in California. When I return to Birmingham, I plan my trip to have lunch here on Friday! The other location on 280 is also good. This one was just closer to work at UAB.

An old friend and I dropped by here to catch up over lunch. Parking was tight but there were just enough spots. Accented wonderfully by the sun soaked patio, the building and interior were inviting. Portions were a bit on the large side, but whether that's good or bad is for you to judge. Lamb gyros and hummus were on par with other lunchy restaurants in the area.

I've eaten at this Taziki's location for dinner a few times, and I can say this location is sub-par to the other ones in the Birmingam suburbs. Maybe lunch is different but even early in the evening the staff is more focused on closing than cooking. Part of the seating is closed off, orders tend to have errors, an staff are busy closing while there are dirty tables in the dining area. I realize this location closes early but service should come first.
