I've heard the stories and I'm happy to report that all the good news is true. The old time, laid back blues feel of the place was the first thing that made me love the place. The atmosphere is killer, especially for winding down after work. I had the smoked chicken sandwich with a side of friend pickles. Just the right amount of smoke topped with this lovely white BBQ sauce. I also love that they have different specials everyday, ranging from desserts to actually entrées. If you want great BBQ, good beer, and great company, try out Saw's.

We heard about this as far away as Nashville and made sure to try it. Outstanding bbq baked potato and too large yo eat! Will be back again soon to enjoy the big selection of beer and awesome music.

Great place for dinner. The fried green tomatoes or pickles are both delicious and surprisingly light for fried foods. Served up warm they are darn tasty. The catfish sandwich was crispy and fall apart flakey with shredded lettuce and a tomato on a fresh soft bun. The pulled pork was super tender and juices with pickles all on one of those yummy buns. Good service from the moment we walked in.

The pork and greens are a mouth explosion. All the tastes go together. It's delicious comfort food. The portion is generous. If you like greens, definitely give this one a try. ALSO, I had the smoked wings. They are the best wings I ever had. They didn't need to be dunked in blue cheese. I dunked a few anyway. I love the food at Saws Juke Joint. The atmosphere is fun too.

Fried green BLT and sweet tea were delicious. We had the bannana pudding for dessert and we were not disappointed. Any of the Saw's BBQs are a must! Loved that the kitchen was open late (they close around 9:30). We will be coming back to try the oysters.

I was finally able to go check this place out around 11:00PM the other night. Sadly the kitchen was closed but the bar was open so no worries there. They have all the standard bottled beers and several options on draft. I went to hear a friend play some blues and the atmosphere was electric. I'd heard parking was an issue but I had no problem finding a spot that night.

There isn't enough good I can say about Saw's! No matter what location I go to, the food is consistently delicious and excellent quality. I really love the atmosphere at the Juke Joint, haven't ever had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table and the live music on the weekends is a huge plus. The chicken baker is my favorite, but I'm also a big fan of the sweet tea fried chicken and the pork and greens. If you order an additional side of fries or onion rings, plan on sharing..they are big portions!

I am appalled with the filth. I've been going since Taylor Hicks opened it as Ore. Last night the floors were filthy , went in bathroom and the floors were overrun with water and urine. The toilet, sink were filthy. The bar tender walks around like he is some one cool while he is just a carry over from Ore. Not good then not good now. The service was not good and the grits tasted like flower paste. Probably be a long time before I go back there as there are so many good places close by.

A pleasant surprise on our road trip from Dallas to Atlanta. Atmosphere was welcoming and fun, waitress was friendly and gave the best recommendations. Sweet tea fried chicken sandwich, fried pickles and banana pudding coupled with a local brew made for the best meal!! We will go out of our way to return. Yuummm!!!

Good, not great, but it's not a place you go for great, nor is it priced so high that you expect a culinary masterpiece. This is good eatin', so to speak. I've not been disappointed the two times I've been. It suffers from the same thing a lot of Birmingham restaurants have a problem with. It's noisy as hell. Highly reflective walls and ceilings mean that all the noise bounces back and forth, so don't plan on good conversation. Darker than I like, louder than I like, and good food. This, however will describe "perfect" for many people who aren't me. I recommend giving it a try.

Another satisfying meal. Pork and greens so good. Only downside very noisy at this location. But will forego the noise for one of the best meals in town!

Visited last night. We had been to Ore several times in the past and liked the patio for a summer evening, so thought we would try the new saw's version. First the positives. The food was all pretty good. I would say a solid 4. The beer selection was very good. I had Avondale battlefield IPA, really nice, hoppy but not overly so. Now the not so positives. The service just sucked. Our waitress responded to what beers do you have with what kind of beer do you like and a prolonged stare. Well I like lots of different beers and what type or style depends on your offerings in the various categories. I saw an Avondale sign and since it was apparent she wasn't offering a list I just ordered the IPA. My wife, smart as she tends to be said nothing and got up and went to the bar and ordered. According to her the bar tender was attentive and awesome. Back to our waitress, next interaction was are you ready to order, no discussion of the menu or specials. We will most likely give it another shot because the small patio is nice and the beer offerings are good. I hope the wait staff gets some direction as I would like to see this place successful.

We had a last minute trip to Birmingham and we always check Yelp for help:-)... We decided to try Saw's a Juke Joint.... Our waiter recommended wings... Which my son and husband ordered... My son said these are " legit" and our daughter ate half of my husbands!! I had the smoked chicken sandwich with the homemade chips.... AWESOME!! We also had jalapeño poppers and fried pickles which were great! This place is great especially for the portions and price.

We had an amazing dinner. D and I arrived early to secure a table of eight so we sat at the bar and enjoyed the fabulous blues band. We started off the night with a couple of beers and the wings. The smoked chicken wings were phenomenal. So good that I hated to share. We also ordered a few appetizers for the table when we were seated; the homemade jalapeño poppers, fried pickles, and more wings (yes they were that good) jalapeno poppers = fresh peppers stuffed with smoked Gouda and pulled pork, the batter was great not too little not too much Fried pickles = sliced pickles fried :) I had the fried oyster sandwich. It was so messy and totally worth it. The oysters took center stage with your basic white bun and iceberg lettuce. The oysters were cooked to perfection and the batter was full of flavor, perfect perfect. I spilt an order of the regular fries with d and we couldn't finish them. I totally recommend splitting otherwise you'll have lots of leftovers. D had the blackened fish sandwich. I didn't try it cause I didn't care to share mine. He ain't the whole thing which is a good sign. I cannot wait to go back. Maybe tomorrow for brunch!

Had the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries and a Avondale IPA. Everything was fantastic, service was great, I would definitely come back

What a fun place! This ain't fine dining.. but since there's ample seating and a waitstaff it's a fine dive. I was informed the pork plate was the most popular dish - I thought the pork was kind of plain but the greens, grits and onion rings it all came with were a greasy delicious mess. I liked the catfish plate much better.. Hot , crispy and perfectly seasoned! The smoked wings are the best wings I've ever had in my life! If you come out trying only one thing make sure you try the wings. My only complaint here is the lack of parking and Styrofoam plates.. so wasteful and unsustainable. Oh well. My 60 year old father enjoyed the food but it's definitely more fitting for younger people who are not hard of hearing :)

I am Texan which means I prefer beef to pork BBQ and I am pretty picky when I do eat pork. This is honestly some of the best BBQ I have had. I had the BBQ pork sandwich with a side of fried pickles. The meat was very good not overly fatty and minimal sauce (preferred) and the pickles were TDF. I love fried pickles and always order them and these were perfect. Not overly battered not soggy just perfect with ranch dipping sauce. The chicken with Alabama white sauce even looked good (and I don't like white sauce). This was both the smoked and fried chicken. The kids chicken fingers were handmade not pre-processed. A friend ordered the greens and shrimp and it looked amazing! Prices were good (10 for sandwich pickles as a side and drink) the place was cool. I wish we had this where I lived I would eat BBQ on a regular basis vs only when going home. Definitely go if you are in Birmingham, well worth the visit and potential wait (not huge so it could be long)

Great food, cold beer and a kicking atmosphere! Burgers are huge and the fries are great. Try it. You will not be disappointed.

This place has amazing wings! They also have great entrees as well. The stuffed potatoes are huge! The chicken and broccoli was my favorite. But the one with pulled pork is also a good choice. This place is always crowded so do not expect to walk up and get a table. It's going to be a while. I has out door seating which we have sat at twice and loved it. Service is usually pretty good... At times a little slow or MIA just due to being so packed. Btw you can almost feed three people off one baked potato! Definitely want to split it if you can...Or you could take leftovers home for later.

Cool atmosphere. Almost dive restaurant-esc, but a little nicer. Good BBQ. Good beer selection. Service great and I'll come back.

This place is a diamond in the rough!! I'm town from Texas, and was told this place would be a fun find, but this juke joint is beyond belief! Had the chef's special and coming before I fly back to Texas to pick up the Chicken Sandwich. Definitely worth the drive!

  • Jessica M.

I really like this Saws! My husband and I went there after house hunting in the area and we absolutely loved it. We both ordered fries, and next time we will just split one order because it was so much food. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was one of the best I've ever had! Now that we will be living less than 5 minutes away, we will definitely become regulars!

Had the "Pork and Greens" Cheese Grits, Collard Greens, Pulled Pork and Onion Rings. Most likely the least healthy thing I've eaten so far this year. But it was pretty delicious. Very small venue and little to no parking.

I am really rooting for Saw's Juke Joint to succeed. This neighborhood truly deserves a local joint like this. This restaurant certainly has something good going for it, but it still has some room for improvement. The food is definitely good. I had the sweet tea fried chicken sandwich, and when it arrived, I was greeted with a giant filet dwarfing the tiny bun bed on which it laid. The white gravy on top was fine, but the sandwich lacked in flavor and was really nothing that would necessarily bring me back. My wife had the fried green tomato BLT which was also pretty good but also was served on flimsy cheap white bread. I think if this place wants to take it to the next level, they should dump the Wonder Bread and take advantage of some of the area's great local bakeries for some truly uniquely great bread. We also split some fried pickles which were excellent and more than enough for two. I was disappointed that they took the beautifully rustic atmosphere of Ore and graffitied it with beer signs and writing on the walls. Just because it's a "joint," it doesn't mean it can't be tasteful. They really need someone (or at least a sign) at the door to point customers to their table, but otherwise our service was good. I think this place definitely deserves a second chance, but I believe there certainly some room for improvement.

Foods is good but not much of a juke joint. If they are going to call it a juke joint they shoud have music starting around dinner time like the juke joints do in Nashville. You expect to have quite a bit of music at a juke joint.

Good food. Good music. Pork n Greens was excellent. The burgers looked great as well. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE

Don't waste your time and appetite on this place. The food was not good at all and the service was even worse. It smelled like sewage inside and the place was dirty. This is just the same awful place that Ore was just with the different food. Just the next in line to fail in this location

Ah-maze-ing! Was in town for the week for work and been checking out different places. Heard good things and they were not wrong. Great beer choices. Got the smoked chicken sandwich with Alabama white sauce and a side of fried okra. Had to finish off with some banana pudding. Everything was wonderful and so was the service.

When things are better, they just are. My first experience was not good, but I think that was all about service. We sat in the bar area and the service was on point. The music was great. Still not super impressed with the pulled pork. I have had better in many other places, and that's why I have to give it a 3 star. The fries were awesome though! Between the good service and fries, I wouldn't mind going back.

One of my favorite places in Birmingham. We went on a Saturday night, and naturally they were crowded. Not a seat at the bar and a short wait for a table for 5. We just settled in with a beer and watched the football game that was on a few TVs in the bar. Soon we were seated, and our server recommended some starters while she took our drink order. Confidently my son ordered fried pickles and some smoked wings for the table while my daughter consoled me after hearing they were out of pulled pork. Now I have been to Saw's in Homewood, the pork is beyond belief so its no wonder they were sold out. Everybody lent me their napkins while I cried it out and hugged my beer. The apps were fantastic, best fried pickles ever, and I know anything coming off their smoker is going to be world class. The noises we were making as we all dove on the wings would have frightened off a Sasquatch. Lots of variety at our table from fish sandwiches, to salads, to shrimp and grits. My son and I landed on one of the many variations of a cheeseburger, and we were not disappointed. A perfect medium, it was big and juicy and a nice consolation for my much needed BBQ fix. Everybody raved about the food, the shrimp and grits were special. Made me feel like I was in Charleston. Even the fries were perfect. Great atmosphere, very casual and rustic comfy. If you're in Birmingham do yourself a favor and check this place out. And if you're in the mood for BBQ, make sure you get there early. A real treasure in the heart of the city.

Y'all, Saw's is hands down the best BBQ in Birmingham, and the awesome thing is that they have so many other good menu items that aren't BBQ. For starters, the fried pickles are to die for, and such a large portion for only $3.75. Eat them and be merry. Excellent place to start. Also, those smoked wings? Get them. Excellent smokey flavor, also served with white sauce. Just delicious. Entree time: so far I have gotten the traditional pulled pork sandwich, which is always a good safe choice. Saw's in known for their pulled chicken and white sauce sandwich, my other go-to if I'm in the mood for something traditional. Saw's puts their white sauce on everything because it puts other white sauces to shame. Seriously. Other entree options: pork stuffed 'tater. Oh man, I just got this for the first time and it was massive. There's a reason it's like $10. It's a McAlister's sized potato loaded down with pulled pork and happiness. Now, if you're in the mood for something different, do the pork and greens. Your taste buds with thank you. Pulled pork, BBQ sauce, turnip greens, on a bed of grits. It's different, and it's good. There's good local beer on tap, which always pairs well with BBQ. The only downside to the Juke Joint is that it's incredibly loud. It could've been that I was there on a Friday night, but you can't even hear the people at your table. Me and my boyfriend didn't even talk while we were eating because we couldn't hear each other. Other than that, eat up! Saw's is the place to be for delicious food.

Saws is a great little spot in Birmingham if you want an original barbecue flavor and the other joint across town is just as good and you may not get some of the barbecue things are you still on the West Coast, no brisket whole rack of ribs but I promise you're not to be disappointed either, get out of your comfort zone and try something different and while you are in Birmingham do as Birmingham does!

    (5)
  • Matthew B.

The bbq is very good! I also had the potato salad and deviled eggs. In my opinion, the potato salad is good but does not have a lot of flavor. I had to put a substantial amount of salt and pepper to make them taste better. The deviled eggs had no flavor. Some seasoning and something else is absent from this recipe.

OK. I have something to publicly address. I LOVE Saw's Juke Joint. I want to shout it from the rooftops. And now that I live in the area, this will definitely be my neighborhood go to. First, the atmosphere is very relaxed. You can go for a nice sit down meal, a quick delicious lunch, or happy hour beers. The beer selection is always good. The bartenders are all very personable. And plenty of TV's to watch sporting events. A very good start. For the food, portions are never a problem. They load you up. The onion rings are very good. They are the small stringy type. Which I personally like. The fried pickles are also the bomb. The only downfall is that they don't come with the sandwiches. You have to order them by themselves. But quick tip I just learned, you can do half and half of the sides for one order. So you should definitely do that. I have always gotten the Sweet Tea Chicken sandwich. And it is so hard to go away from that delicious treat. But I recently tried the burger and I was not disappointed. Both are hearty and delicious. If you haven't been to this Saw's, drop everything now and go!

I'll start off by saying that I absolutely love Saw's. I live within about 200 yds of the BBq in Edgewood and the pulled pork sandwich with slaw is possibly the best thing I've ever stuffed in to my face. This was my first time to the Juke Joint and the experience as a whole was good but after hearing so many rave reviews about the sweet tea chicken sandwich I was wholly disappointed. I think this might be more of an issue with me just ordering the wrong thing and I accept that but it was really pedestrian. It certainly wasn't bad but honestly the sweet tea chicken sandwich at Whole Foods is 10x better. Now prior to the chx sand, my buddy and I ordered the smoked wings with white sauce and holy crap they were incredible. Some of the best wings I've ever had. I probably should've gone in a different direction but when I asked if the chx sandwich had lettuce and tomato or anything on it the bartender said "nah, it doesn't need any of that stuff, it's perfect"--I'm going to beg to differ. Doesn't make this place bad just be smart when you make your decisions. I probably could've picked 10 other items that would've left me with a more fulfilling experience.

  • Blake B.

It's my favorite place to eat in Birmingham. Every time someone comes from out of town this is where I take them. Everyone one of them that comes back wants to go back to Saw's. Everything I've tried has been fantastic plus it's very reasonably priced.

  • Sue M.

A coworker suggest Saw's for lunch. Boy, am I glad she did. The pulled pork sandwich was almost as good at my favorite Atlanta BBQ joint (Fat Matt's) and the fries were also delicious. The service was as good as you would expect from a BBQ juke joint - our waitress was very attentive. We arrived just as they were opening and completely empty, and by 12pm, the place was packed and there was a line outside! I would definitely recommend Saw's and will try to get back during my next trip to Bham!

  • Kerry L.

The pork and grits... Resting on the creamy bed of cheese grits, is a hefty chunk of pork that melts right into your mouth. The pork is topped with with a LOT thin and crispy onion rings. In the mix, you'll find an impressive amount of hidden greens boiled with water and a load of bacon. The mouthwatering, vinegar based BBQ sauce does an excellent job with complementing the savory items on the plate. The portions are massive. The atmosphere is very friendly. Throughout the restaurant, you'll find signs and chalk written messages which gives this restaurant it's unique charm. The customer service was okay. I could tell people were tired, I may have caught them on an off day. When asking about how the food was cooked, I couldn't tell if the waiter was unsure, or if he was judging me for asking an obvious question. But again, I may have caught them on an off day. The food was excellent.

Spent a week in the area and upset i finally went to this place on the last night. I would have lived there! The atmosphere is amazing and the staff was both friendly and attentive! My beer got low I had another one. Seems like there are a good bit of locals which made it even better. From a guy who cooks and smokes meat about every weekend, I am a harsh judge of food. Especially BBQ. THIS BLEW MINE OUT OF THE WATER. The pulled pork was amazing. Juicy and full of flavor. I got the Homemade BBQ chips and those were outstanding. This place takes the cake and I live in NC! Home of pulled pork! I highly recommend this joint! When I'm back in town I will live at this place!

I was super excited about visiting this place after reading the reviews. It did not disappoint! We were seated immediately, but right in front of the kitchen door :\ Hey, I didn't mind, because the food was awesome! I ordered the Saw Burger without the sauce and onion straws. It was the best restaurant I've had in some time. Maybe, a tad bit better the Five Guys! I had the Apple Cobbler for dessert, which I found very weird not to come with complimentary ice cream!?! I had to order a $1 scoop of ice cream to spoon on top. Overall, it was a really great experience and will visit again. They have awesome wings too!

I'm going to preface this review by admitting I'm a California girl (not from the South), so I didn't grow up eating BBQ. That being said, I do travel a ton, eat a lot all over the country, love good BBQ and food in general, so judge appropriately. I got the smoked pork sandwich ($5.75) with the white sauce. Normally the white sauce comes with the chicken sandwich, but you can certainly request it with the pork sandwich. I'm not sure what is in the white sauce / Carolina sauce, and it's probably best I don't know how bad it is for me. The meat was really tender, with a great smokey flavor, and they didn't skimp on the meat inside the sandwich. For sides, get the sweet potato fries instead of the regular fries. The regular ones were on the salty side, but the sweet potato ones were salty. They have fried green tomatoes, fried okra (they were out when I went), and a bunch more. They also have a nice selection of beers too. I'd definitely come back here and want to try the other Saw's restaurants next time I'm back in Birmingham. I was only in Birmingham for 24 hrs, and this was the best thing I ate on the trip, so don't miss it if you are visiting (or a local). For a party of 3, all of us ordered a sandwich, a side, and a beer and we were all stuffed. All of that set us back about $48 before tip.

Saw's Juke Joint is consistently good! That's actually saying something these days. The bar tenders are the hidden gems! They really pour a good drink and always seem to have a good attitude. The Cheeseburgers and wings are really some of my favorites in town. The whole fresh fried okra (Seasonal) is the best I've ever eaten, off the scale when really fresh. The prices are fair, the overall food quality is really good and the service is always very good. I go to Saw's Juke Joint minimum twice a month.

It's something about the area that Saws Juke Joint resides in that says "This Must Be The Place". The smell of the wood burning when you exit your car (which is in front of someones house btw) and the general excitement stemming from the patio told me this was going to be an experience. Saws Originals are always good but the specials are what I come to this location for. Beef Carpaccio over horseradish mayo topped with arugula, olive oil, and black pepper. Royal Red Shrimp Boil. Blackened Amberjack Sandwich. These are the specialties that separate this location from the pack. It may only be one night only as well for that particular dish. Whoever is running that kitchen,......Props my friend. Your doing it right! -Be Good.... Enjoy your time at Saws Juke Joint

Well I finally got to Saws. I went for lunch. It was pretty crowded, which is not hard since it's so small that 4 people would make it crowded. It's basically a hole in the wall, with a if it ain't broke don't fix it attitude. Okay anyway about the food... I had the smoked chicken sandwich with thw white sauce & fried green tomatoes. I think it was about 4 huge tomatoes & they were so very good. .As for the sandwich I didn't 't like it. Nothing seemed smoke it tasted like boiled chicken or maybe canned, but I definitely didnt like the white sauce. My daughter had the Saws burger. It was huge! She enjoyed every drop of it, said it was really good. It came with what looked like a double order of fries. I should have stuck with first mind & went with the shrimp & grits , greens, & pork. I'll be going back tho.

Great atmosphere, with live music at night. Fun place to grab a quick drink after work. I had the loaded BBQ baked potato. It was huge, and I definitely couldn't finish it-but it was very tasty. It was recommended by the server who said it was one of his favorites.

Such a fun experience! Me and my fiancé met a friend for dinner here. I like the size of this restaurant compared to the Homewood location but parking can still be tricky. The fried pickles and fried green tomatoes make awesome appetizers. I loved my BBQ sandwich, Mac and cheese and greens. The greens especially were delicious! I would totally recommend trying them.

Great food, great location, yet some of the shittiest service I've ever been exposed to. Every Waiter/bartender I came across was rude, one girl walked away in mid sentence and the bartender told me "no" before I could even ask for a drink. I had to eat my meal angry.

Finally got to visit Saw's Juke Joint a little over a month ago, and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere - seriously what you might expect a "juke joint" to look like in this day and age, a slightly dark, hole-in-the-wall bar; and that's not meant to be a negative. There's nothing fancy about the place - a quick-view menu on the wall in chalk, the live band squeezed into a corner next to the main bar, and the rest of the patrons squeezed together in three adjacent rooms and sitting at wood tables (high and low) similar to what you'd expect at a park. But somehow it fits - a band playing blues, simple can beers, very unique food offerings, all seem to make for the perfect mood. And speaking of the food, I wasn't at all expecting what the Chicken and Greens brought to my unrefined tastebuds. Onion straws on top of BBQ sauce on top of pieces of pulled chicken on top of collard greens on top of grits - it's a crazy dish, and it was crazy good. And honorable mention to the appetizer of smoked wings with white buffalo sauce - those were pretty fantastic as well. Saw's is definitely a welcome change of pace from the usual places frequented around the Birmingham area. The character of the place alone is worth a visit, but don't waste that visit and not eat - you'll be missing out on some uniquely tasty stuff.

  • Chris S.

Food - I had the pulled pork over cheese grits and collard greens. The pulled pork was covered in Saw's house sauce (I took a bottle home it was so good) and was absolutely delicious. The collard greens were flavorful and perfectly cooked, not soggy at all. The cheese grits were the best I've ever had. I was surprised to see such a generous lunch portion for a low price; great value! I washed it all down with a Good People IPA, what a perfect combination. Atmosphere - This is a really cool place. It looks like a local dive, with lots of wood and wall decor, but everyone there, staff and patrons, are having a great time. This a place you would want to go with your best friends. Service - I got there just in time for the lunch time frenzy, but they were able to seat us in under 10 minutes. The friendly waitress guided us through the menu with a smile. The food was out from the kitchen faster than I expected at such a busy time of day. This place has it all: value, great food, top notch service and fun. I wish I lived nearby, I'd eat there all the time.

I have been here several times and NEVER had anything other than outstanding experiences. I have had the burger (awesome), pork and greens (WoW!), a totally delish Grilled Mahi over a watermelon salad (amazing), the BLFGT The music is also always great. Yep, I'm a fan!

the place looks cool, and it's definitively the destination of many young people from the surrounding areas. Crowded, but not insanely. Service is good, fast and kind. Food is OK. So far I haven't been delighted by anything they offer. I hated being served hot coffee in the Styrofoam cup, it was like drinking petrol! Damn Styrofoams, is it going to happen that this nasty containers will disappear from the Earth face at some point?! Good and cool place, but missing a lot of details. Very smoky, but that's a pro.

Chicken Baker was awesome. Service was great. I have visited all three saws restaurants now and will continue to do so every time I am in the area.

The wings are epic...literally dream-worthy epic! They are the reason this review is getting 5 stars! I would also say the pork n'greens is a five star dish, the sweet tea chicken sandwich was a four star item...delish, but not earth-shaking. We will be adding this to our regular line ups of restaurants! Wonderful waitress as well!!!

Food is pretty damn close to a 5, staff is underwhelming. Location and atmosphere is a plus.

Try the pork and greens. You won't be sorry. This is fast becoming one of my favorite spots to eat the n Birmingham. Parking is a little tricky but once you're there, you're in for a treat. The okra appetizer is excellent too so try it. I love this place.

One of my favorite places in the city. And the best barbecue in town. Sweet Potato Fries are best when ordered "extra crispy." Bar staff is friendly and attentive. Great place to watch sports. Several televisions in the bar area. Price is great for what you get.

Good, locally-owned BBQ joint, with live music.

BURGER. I try to force myself to order something new/different each time I hit the juke joint, but now that I've had the burger this is my go-to when I'm craving a burger. Huge, juicy and flavorful. Check. (I'm going today, in 24 minutes)

Great food and friendly staff! Great hangout spot for all ages off the beaten path. Their specials are always good and if there's a wait, just grab a drink at the bar. Also, the kitchen is open til 9 or 9:30, so don't go by the hours posted on Google

I prefer Saw's Soul Kitchen in Avondale to the Juke Joint. Love the pork and greens, but the last time I went (and took my elderly mother) the place just felt dirty. It had that dank feeling of a frat house the morning after a kegger. We had to beg for everything from napkins to a second plate so we could share our messy appetizer, as we'd requested to do when we ordered. Right after being seated, we noticed our table was coated with a nasty layer of something sticky - you really couldn't touch it. When we asked if it could please be wiped off, we were told that it was residue from old tablecloths that had been stuck to the table with an adhesive. Waiter said the adhesive wouldn't come off, so there was nothing that could be done about it. That apathetic response pretty much summed up the complacent vibe of the whole place. It's a shame.

Pork and greens = Delicious! stopped there for lunch today and had the pork and greens which was recommended by our waitress and I have to say that was the best pork I've had in a very long time!

This place was named #1 BBQ place in America by Paula Dean mag. and I have to say... I 100% agree. Truly amazing food. Just does not get any better. I'm just at a loss for words... I don't know how to explain how heavenly this food is. You just have to go. Look for me because I plan to be there a lot.

Yessiree, a rough and tumble crowd in this here juke joint. I would say this is for the toughest s.o.b's who live in Mountain Brook AL. I once saw a feller parking a BMW covered with clay. Probably had been out rustling cattle all day. The food is good. It's solid bbq. The crowd is torrential starting at 5pm. You can try to get carry-out, but they make you pick it up in the bar. There is one bar tender serving 100 Fred Couples, and he is not raring to bring food over. Saws in Avondale is better IF there isn't an Avondale event going on, in which case they will likely run out of food.

This saws has the best seating. The chicken sandwich with white sauce is my go-to I also like the fried pickles and fried green tomatoes. When I'm looking for something light, the blackened catfish is yummy. It can get pretty packed in there, but the service is usually quick and the food is tasty. The have a nice local beer selection, and it seems pretty family friendly.

Another ab-fab place in the 'Ham. Outstanding barbecue with an interesting touch. Lunch specials are ever changing and, if not gourmet quality, damn close. One of three Saw's in the Birmingham metro area, it is the most spacious of them. Rumor has it that Saw's is an acronym that the owner's father gave him at a young age: Sorry-Ass Wilson. Nonetheless, if you like excellently smoked pulled pork and other delights, like pulled pork on a bed of cheese grits topped with greens, be there.

Much has already been said about Saws, but it is my hope that the afterlife tastes, smells and feels something like this place. Just about every time I go there I drop $15 on lunch, but a more rational person could get by for $10. Everything I've ordered for has been scrum-diddly-umptious: Wings, Pork & Greens, Sweet Tea Chicken, Pork Sandwich, Burgers, and you can "Carolina" anything - I shall love it. -Chappy

I at here for the first time at lunch on Friday, 8/29 and had the "sweat tea chicken sandwich" (grilled) with the sweet potato fries. My friend had the very popular "pork and greens" dish that she kindly let me try. Both dishes were DELICIOUSLY AMAZING, MOUTHWATERING, WONDERFUL!! I have been craving them ever since. The portions were plentiful. The menu is simple and perfect. I have eaten at Saw's BBQ in Homewood before and this is similar, but a lot bigger location. Parking is still an issue as they are competing with several shops in the same strip. Get there early, b/c they fill up fast. The service was great. You could tell she was very busy (understaffed perhaps), but she was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. The staff had manners and used them. I HIGHLY advise you stop by this place if you are a local or just passing through. It is a little off the beaten path from most hot spot locations, but soo worth the visit. You won't regret it. This place is amazing. I would eat here everyday if I could.

Saw's has the best barbecue I've ever had in my life. The reason I like the Juke Joint in particular is because it is larger than the one in Homewood, it has a fun atmosphere, it is a great place to bring kids, and the prices are reasonable. One of my favorite restaurants.

Super cool place! Love the BBQ & they have awesome apps! Great service! The best neighborhood place around! The spuds are massive...site to feed 2! I have always had a good meal here:) they do takeout as well BUT closed on Sundays.

Saw's has a more diverse menu than your average BBQ joint but, really, when I get a craving for the place I usually keep things pretty simple, opting for the pulled pork sandwich (great sauce!) or their fantastic cheeseburger. Their fried stuff tends to be a bit on the salty side but the Fried Oyster sandwich is still a treat. The pork and greens are great, too.

An interesting menu item for a BBQ joint: fried homemade peanut butter and homemade strawberry jam sandwich. My husband tried it, channeling his inner Elvis, and gave it 2 thumbs up!

Some of the best BBQ around but the parking and the poor service only rate 3 stars. They can't do anything about the parking but.....

Short - All three Saw's locations are awesome and unique. Saw's has been for a while one of my favorite restaurants in Bham Specials are special for a reason...try them...but the regular bbq is solid as can be. Longer - The smoked wings are the best wings I have ever had. I love the pork and the two red sauces they have(one thicker than the other). The other special is the Pork n Greens. Now, it sounds crazy but again, there is a reason why this special carried over from the Avondale location. I have gotten it several times and have been pleased everytime. Ask your server questions and for suggestions. Both times I have been I did that and came out a winner. Check the draft beer selection at this location. VERY good.

Awesome spot in Birmingham! Great beer selection and also live music weekly. Very cool spot to meet some friends at after work. Taylor Hicks himself recommended the Sweet-Tea chicken sandwich and the wings (sweet , tangy bbq style wings).. Amazing . Give it a try!

I lived in the Birmingham area years ago, and I'm in town only for the weekend. I think Saw's may be my new favorite restaurant around! My friend and I were sat about 10 minutes after arriving (even though the host gave us a 45 minute estimate) at 1 pm on a Saturday. The restaurant was busy, so it was about 5-10 minutes before our server was able to see us, but the food and service we received after that definitely made up for the wait. I had the fried green tomato BLT with fried pickles. The BLT was absolutely delicious. It fell apart even though I got sauce on the side, but if you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty, I definitely recommend this sandwich. The pickles are very yummy. They came with a ranch dipping sauce that I think has dill in it?? It at least wasn't just plain ranch, which I was happy about. Mae was delightful, and I highly recommend being served by her! Thanks, Saw's! I look forward to stopping in next time I'm in town.

Saw's calls themselves a BBQ joint but where's the brisket?! Where are the racks of pork ribs?? Why can't I get smoked sausage?? The only 2 "BBQ" items on their menu include the pulled pork sandwich and the BBQ chicken sandwich or you can by the protein per lb separately. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a side of potato salad. The sandwich was pretty good. The potato salad seemed to creamy for my liking but the flavor was on point. I think they need to focus less on the side dishes and "specialties" and focus more on actual BBQ. Seriously though, what kind of BBQ joint sells seafood??!
