I've found a new love for Greek food and was happy to visit here with some coworkers. I'll admit that I've only ever visited one other Greek place in Huntsville and they're the reason I love Greek food so much. I love Greek salads topped with gyro meat so naturally I ordered the Gyro salad. Theirs came with crispy, crumbled gyro meat, some veggies, one olive (warning it has a pit), cheddar cheese plus one small cube of feta, four pita wedges, tzatziki sauce, and an oil based dressing. It was good but I think I would have preferred: more tender meat vs crispy, more feta and no cheddar, and another olive or two. The gyro meat did have good seasoning flavor. I liked having both the tangy, creamy tzatziki sauce and the delicate dressing. The pita was delicious and chewy. I really enjoyed being able to sit outside as well.

When you look at Purple Onion from the outside, your expectations will hold true. It's dingy and not clean on the exterior, nor the interior. The menu is overpriced, especially considering the quality of food. I got the gyro plate, and although the meat itself was good, nothing else except for the slice of pineapple was good. The food is heavy and does not sit well on your stomach. It's greasy, and poor quality. This place should only be considered if you're looking for a place to eat while you're intoxicated at 3 in the morning and do not care about what you're putting into your body.

My favorite fast and fresh. Call ahead for pick up or eat in. Great outdoor area with fountain. This is my favorite purple onion. The tabouli salad is delicious. I also like the grilled salmon. And grilled chicken. The burgers are sensational. Smooshed and tasty to eat. Yummy crinkle cut fries with tasty salt. Love the hummus and warm fresh pita bread. The sweet tea is mint flavored and refreshing. And addicting. Friendly staff. Very clean facility. Oh yeah and I like the falafel roll ups and my hubs always gets the gyro. The plates are really nice too. You can go either way here as far as healthy and not so healthy. They offer grilled meats and fish and shrimp with salads or baked potato, wings or chicken fingers. Or you can get bacon burgers and fries or onion rings with cheese on it.

Gyro is your typical Gyro, the only difference is they use their sauce instead of the traditional tzatziki sauce. The fries, nothing spectacular but good. All in all i will be back to try different things on the menu, good value for the food.

The staff is always friendly and more than willing to help you decide what to order off the fairly huge menu. I've eaten here for over 20 years and I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal. The Purple Onion burger (made with kafta) is my absolute favorite. The only thing that makes it better is adding Swiss cheese. The stuffed baked potatoes are awesome if you're in a super-starchy mood. Tonight I had the chicken fingers and fries. The fingers are just frozen chicken, not fresh or hand breaded like quite a few other local places, but there's just something about them I crave on a regular basis. The service is always fast, no matter how busy they are. It's one of my go-to places after a long day at work. And the fact that they're open 24 hours is a huge plus. PS - this Purple Onion is MILES better than the one in Southside near the UAB campus.

Food is fine no complaints-------------- Slightly--and again- slightly better than average for taste--my problem is service and pricing which give it a 2 STAR---really a $5.50 fallafel and they want additional $0.75 to put tahini sauce on it? There are about 6 restaurants that I have tried in the area which serve the same sort of food/ fair--all are nicer and cheaper Makarios is 2/3's to 1/2 cheaper on sandwiches and nicer places---no,I am not pushing them--service can be slow there-- just stating facts---I think Purple Onion is a bit pricey for the food. I would avoid the one in Hoover and go to the other in Pelham and G.S.'s

I love this place, food, atmosphere, service are all great. My husband almost every time orders the grilled shrimp kabob. I order the shrimp and the Tilapia entree. We also order a small tabula.

Nice size portions and fish cooked to perfection. The gyro plate was also very tasty. The hummus was on point. The salad could use a tad more dressing but it was cool enough still due to the strong flavors of the rest of the dish. I will say I can't do a 4/5 star because of the cleanliness of the arena. I sat in a booth and noticed a cricket just sitting there on the edge in a frozen stare. I wasn't sure if it was glued there to the back of the 2nd booth or if it was just doing the hibernating-bug-look that bugs do. Also some splashes of food on walls are here and there. But to take out or just to eat in but not look around...it does the trick!

service was great....I had a loaded chicken potato. I wish there would have been more chicken but the potato was huge. It only took about 10 mins for them to bring all the food over to our table. Great place for late night eats.

We usually go to the Southside location, just because it is closer to out stomping grounds. This location is similar to the other one as far as food and looks, but does have a larger seating area inside. The food is quite tasty...no one in our group had anything bad to say. The patio is enjoyable when it is nice out. I love that they are open 24/7 too...so you can satisfy your cravings any time!

Not the most beautiful place, but they serve good food. I usually order gyros here and they are great. Not too big and not too small. The service is quick and friendly and they have a lot of outdoor seating. I think they are open 24 hours too, but don't quote me on that. I just wish they had more parking.

As you drive by, it sort f looks like it was a beer garden or something...back in the late 70s. Walk inside, the menu presents burgers, fries, chicken tenders. Ummm, I was looking for a Greek salad and thought this was a Greek place..das what yelp said it was. So ordered the greek salad and asked to add grilled chicken. I watches the cook throw half a breast on the grill...dust it with some red powder and sorta poke at it for a while. The salad was limp iceberg. One Greek olive, one red onion ring, one green pepper, one slice o tomato ... And believe it...a slice of pineapple. Really? I would have been better off getting fried chicken wings from wing zone and their side salad. It kind of sucked.

Love, love, love this little restaurant for lunch. 1. the food is good 2. love to sit outside by the fountain and enjoy the afternoon sun 3. my bank (Regions) is right next door so I can visit the ATM to pay for lunch or dinner, and 4. it is right by my office. I usally order a gyro and maybe some onion rings which rock! Gyro plate and falafel plate are also great for dinner. Service is fast and friendly. Open 24-7, so great for dinner after working late, or breakfast for that really early morning coming into work.

I generally go to one of the Purple Onion locations at least once a week. Even if I don't get my usual gyro plate or wrap, it's worth the stop (or drive-through if I'm near the Pelham location) just to get some hummus and pita bread. Not to expensive, especially considering the staff are super friendly and the food is delicious. While it's not particularly upscale or flashy, it makes for a great stop for lunch or (very) late dinner.

When I lived in Homewood this place was always one of my favorites. Almost every time I go back to Bham I have to make a stop by one of the Purple Onions. I LOVE the ranch fries when the are hot. The burgers have a different taste to them that I just love.

One of the best Greek salads I have EVER had....always fresh! Portion sizes are beyond generous! It's a tight squeeze, especially inside around lunch, BUT do not fear...there is outside seating!!! Service quick & friendly!
