Meh. I really wanted to like Mudtown b/c I just moved in down the street. I got one of their signature dishes, fried green tomatoes, and bacon smashed potatoes. Potatoes great. FGTs not so good. Maybe it's b/c they are SO thick, but the flavor wasn't there for me even w/ the great dipping sauce. Just tasted a lot of green flesh. I am a fan of FGTs in general, but will pass on these. May try Mudtown in the future, but disappointed this time around.

Finally got to eat at one of Cahaba Heights best kept secrets. The restaurant appears to be in an old house and had a quaint family atmosphere. Our waiter was very personable and interacted nicely with my wife and I. We tried their sweet potato chips with homemade blue cheese dressing as an appetizer and it was amazing. I got the Blackened Tilapia Sandwich and it was great. My wife got the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich and of course I had to taste. Really some of the best Fried Green Tomatoes I've ever had. Also didn't hurt they had Avondale's Streetcar Kolsch on tap. Love that brewery!

Nice find in a little area called Cahaba Heights. Southern-Inspired American style bar food in a small house with a nice deck area. Exactly what I wanted for a large family meal. We arrived at six on the Sunday before Memorial day. We had a party of seven and they were able to seat us immediately. The place filled up quickly as the night went on. It is pretty small so I could see it being a problem on a Friday or Saturday night. According to a blurb on the menu the term "Mudtown" comes from a name used by the Native American tribe who lived by the Cahaba river. Whether it's true or not it's a pretty cute story. It's not a seedy atmosphere, it's not charming, It's just a small old house that's been converted into a restaurant. This is not an insult, I thought it was casual and comfortable. There's a line of choir benches along one wall being used as booth seats. Not tacky, just practical. The porch looked really inviting but I was with a large group and we didn't want to use up that valuable real estate on such a mild night. Great selection of draft beers - including a few locals. I had a glass of the house red merlot instead I'm trying to be healthy. That said I knew what I was after before I entered the building: I wanted the fried green tomatoes (voted the best in Bham in 2001 according the menu) and the shrimp with grits (a dish that I love and think is under appreciated) The tomatoes were excellent. The slices were nice and thick but the tomatoes were crisp and the cornbread crust was crunchy. There was a creamy mayonnaise based sauce that had a bit of a tartar flavor to it. I'm curious what it would be like with a remolade sauce instead. The sweet potato chips were thin and crispy - maybe a leeetle soggy. The dip was more of a crumble of blue cheese and bacon - nothin wrong with that I loved it. My shrimp with grits were an amazing soup of creamy cheese grits with cooked shrimp, andoille sausage, and some bell peppers. Great seasoning and I actually preferred the sausage over the shrimp, I thought they could be cooked a little longer. The Reuben sandwich was stacked a mile high and the monte cristo was eaten completely by a lady who never cleans her plate. I tried the pepper jelly that came with the monte cristo and it was this cool sweet raspberry flavor with a light peppery finish. I'd order that on its own as a dip for the fries which, incidently were little and crisp and served in a big mountain with the sandwiches. Others got the beef filet and grilled fish and seemed to enjoy the generous portions. I think it would be a great place for a brunch on the porch. The parking complaints mystify me. Anyone who's used to parking on random hills in Birmingham should be used to crazy parking angles. If the small lot is full there's plenty of street parking right by it or even in the walgreens across the small street. This is not bad parking.

We have been looking for a good place that isn't a chain and this place is great! We went at 4pm on a Friday night and it wasn't crowded at all which made it perfect for two small kids. The fried green tomatoes were awesome. The corn on top is pickled which made it different and delicious. I had the pork tacos which were pretty good, but the monte cristo was definitely better. (My husband had that.) The draft selection was pretty decent too. I highly recommend this place. The service was very friendly even after my entire beer spilled on me.

Cute little restaurant with unique food. Definitely horrible parking and gets very crowded at busy times on weekend nights. Charming atmosphere, and the crowd just adds to it. I reccomend trying the Sweet Potato Blue Chips and dip as an appetizer. They offer a great selection of unusual sandwiches; I particularly like the Texas Toast Club. Gourmet, Fine Dining- NO. Cute place with a twist on the average bar food - YES. Give it a try on a casual night out

Went back on a Sunday night and sat out on the patio to enjoy the 75 degree night. We had the Spicy Bayou and Beale Street burgers and both were great! Burgers are served with fries, that are average tasting. We enjoyed our visit much more this time around because service was faster and it was comfortable to sit outside.

Nice little hole in the wall. The music they were playing was great. Not much on atmosphere, not even a real "bar" atmosphere, but good selection of draft beers. The one I chose I had never heard of but it was great! Hamburger was cooked just right with hearty toppings. My only complaint was the sweet potato chips with blue cheese I had as an appetizer. Sounded good, but the chips were almost burnt & the sauce tasted like mayo with some blue cheese dressing in it. Service was fine, though it wasn't real busy.

I tried this place because of a Sharing Spree deal and we have already been twice! Everything we tried has been delicious! The first time I had shrimp and grits and loved them! We also had an appetizer of the fried pickles and they were some of the best I have had. Second time we shared wings and the Cajun burger and it was so good! They have a good beer selection, the service was great, and it was just a neat little spot .Our next trip will be for Sunday brunch someday soon. I am glad Sharing Spree helped me find this one, we will be back!

Sometime you order the Alfredo style meal and regret it less than halfway through.....not at Mudtown! Great spot to hang on the porch with a. Bud, watch the thunderstorms and have dinner. Our waitstaff were attentive and friendly, the food was extremely good, and the beers were cold. Add to all of this the reasonable price and we've got a winner!

Excellent lunch spot! In the event you are looking for the "Bar" setting, this is your place! Small but humble. Not over the top anything and much more geared toward locals and comfort food. I enjoyed some fried green tomatoes (Tasty as I imagined) and the Spicy Boyou Burger (not so spicy). While the enviroment was perfect for lunch I would not take my clients there for lunch unless they were looking to drink some local beers and hang out for a bit. I would come back for lunch any day of the week. O

The food is good, but the place is way too over priced for what you get. Crappy beer offering, and just to expensive for what you get. Its a cool dive, but the cost is twice what it should be.

This is a cool little place that makes me love the Birmingham food scene. It's a successful marriage of "traditional" southern food and new American approaches. The cover of the menu mentions several items they have been voted "Best in Birmingham" for. Then says, "Voted Worst Parking in Birmingham." Not a stretch at all. Try: fried green tomatoes with corn relish & special white sauce

Typical neighborhood bar/restaurant. The burger is probably the best thing they make here, but I think there are better burgers to be found elsewhere. This is a fine place to eat if you are in the area and want something casual. The deck is nice, but there is a large awning that makes it feels very cave-like.

parking lot defies physics... but worth it for the food. what i love about this place is the size of their water glasses... they are HUGE, so you don't have to constantly ask waitstaff for more water. you seat yourself, so look around for a table and make a run for it if it's empty. place fills up fast. had the fried pickles and fried green tomatoes...deeelish! and the merckle masa catfish entree....deelish! merlot to wash it all down. hubby had a hamburger...not the best he's ever had, but still very good. we love love loved the laid back, unpretentious appeal of this place. their parking lot defies physics... we parked at a 60 degree angle and somehow also made it out. one of our favorite bham eateries.

I ate here last week with my husband. The fish tacos were so good and so was the Caribbean rice. My only complaint is that the owner? Older guy waiter? Was so loud and said some kind of borderline inappropriate to some regulars. If I had kids I wouldn't want to have to explain what he said to them. Anyway, great food and I will definitely go back, only next time I'll sit on the porch.

The crab cakes are super good. I swapped the corn relish for the black bean relish on the crab cakes. The Monte Cristo was pretty good but not very Monte Cristo like (no powdered sugar). On Wednesdays the bottles of wine are half price. My friend and I split the crab cakes, a sandwich, and a bottle of wine on a Wednesday and spent under 20 each. All things considered pretty average place but half price wine is awesome.

Just left Mudtown after a wonderful experience! We started with the fried pickles. They were superb- not greasy and came with this white sauce that was so tasty. My dad said the fried pickles were the best he had ever had. Daddy got the fried green tomato sandwich with sweet potato chips and loved both. He said eating the sweet potato chips was like eating candy and that the sandwich was great. It came with three big slices of tomato and I managed to get one that he couldn't fit on the sandwich. Yummy! My fiancé had a BBQ hamburger that was the special of the day. He enjoyed his as well and had trouble finishing it since to was so big! I had the Jamaican pork sandwich. It was DELICIOUS. The meat was flavorful and the chutney sauce put it over the top. Definitely one of the best I have ever had. Mudtown has a great selection of draft beer and a diverse food menu. The place is small with a lot of character. Our server was the bomb. She was so nice and made us feel at home. Whether you are just passing through like we were or a local of Bham, I highly recommend checking out this gem.

I've lived in Birmingham for a little over 2 months. Mudtown is around the corner from where I live but I didn't try it until last night. Glad I did! Aside from its terrible, terrible parking setup (which they humorously acknowledge on their menu), Mudtown is a nice little neighborhood spot. Filled with football fans but not noisy. Very friendly and efficient servers, and tasty comfort food. The fried pickle appetizer was delicious, and the garlic cheese grits tasted a lot like my mom's.

The atmosphere is sort of enjoyable, if in an odd way. The restaurant has a great outside deck similar to what you might find at a Gulf Coast restaurant. However, instead of a view of the gulf, you have a view of a Walgreen's. The food--or at least the food I and my date had--was awful. We started with the sweet potato chips and bacon blue cheese dip. The chips were burnt, and the dip was flavorless, yet really heavy (the kind of heavy that makes your insides immediately hurt). The chicken tenders were the worst I've ever had. Anywhere. They were clearly frozen, and had probably been stuffed in the back of a Piggly Wiggly freezer prior to making their way to my plate. Bad food, uninspiring menu, and sort of enjoyable atmosphere. Not worth a return trip.

My wife and I ate on here on a Thursday evening - I had the catfish po-boy with seasoned fries - excellent sandwich - good flavor and not fishy tasting - hot & fresh - I almost burnt my mouth several times but it tasted good and I was very hungry so kept eating - fries cooked just right and properly seasoned - my wife ordered a BBQ salad - huge portion and fresh - she couldn't eat it all - sweet tea was good too - coleslaw was good also - different taste - first time I have ever had with almonds in it but it was very good

The barkeep welcomed me and told me to have the shrimp and grits. Let's see....really cool vibe. World's worst parking: you'll feel like a billy goat on a cliff. Wow a hearty bowl of spicy, creamy sausage, shrimp and grits arrived. Plenty of heat and flavor. This place is off the beaten path, but worth the trip. Here come dessert. Fried apple pie. Vanilla ice cream, strawberries. Wow!

Fresh and Local. This is an excellent restaurant and a gem for Birmingham. A casual hip local feel. Very laid back and welcoming. We had brunch here which I must say the hash browns were the best i have ever eaten in my life. Perfectly seasoned and excellent texture. Bravo. We returned a few days later to try the dinner and were blown away yet again. The shrimp and grits were top notch. We will be regulars here as its a rare treat for this kind of fresh cooking.

I've been several times and each time I visit, I'm hoping it will be a good experience. The last time we grabbed dinner, I was definitely disappointed. Our waitress was not friendly and she seemed irritated to be waiting on us. The meals we ordered were so-so, but we ended up sending one of the Fried Green Tomato sandwiches back because the cheese wasn't melted on it--it seems like a hot sandwich, but I guess not? Anyway, I wish Mudtown was good....it's a cute neighborhood location for us! But we have not enjoyed our meals there.

In the land of chains and fast food this place is a breath of fresh air to the dining scene in Birmingham. I came here with a group of 4 on a Friday night for dinner before heading to a Movie at the Summit. We wanted to avoid the PF Changs and California Pizza Kitchen and get some place local. This hit the spot. Take note though, we put our name in for a table at 6:30 and were seated by 7. I was told that a wait is normal due to the size (it's a small place). For an appetizer we ordered the Sweet potato chips. The blue cheese dipping sauce is awesome. It's not your typical blue cheese dressing so give it a shot. For dinner I was looking for something on the healthier side (i know, after the blue cheese dressing and sweet potato chips), so I had the lettuce wraps for a meal. I found the wraps to be a fun twist on your typical lettuce wraps. In terms of service, our server was attentive, helpful with suggestions and prompt. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food and the bill was't to bad either. I don't think the food is out of this world or anything but I appreciate the fact that tehy play around with flavors and take some classics and put a spin on em. We will definitely be back here.

I've loved going here with my friends; the food has always been great, and the parking has never been a problem (mainly because there are larger parking lots right next door or across there street where you can park if you so desire). There has only been one real instance where the service was severely lacking, which isn't understandable in such a small restaurant, but I've gone back since then and it hasn't been a problem again yet. Overall, it's a great place to go, especially during the week when you just need a good drink and a great southern style dish to fill you up.

This is a great lil dive! I had read about the famous fried green tomatoes and must say, they lived up to the hype! I had the patty melt with onion rings (not a huge fan of the onion rings simply because they were breaded in the same thing used for the fried green tomatoes). My friends monte cristo sandwich was tasty - I think they used french toast for the bread which was unique. He had a side of fries that were VERY underwhelming - they were straight out of the ore ida bag!!

I came here for a post-church meal and decided to take advantage of the brunch menu. I got the chicken and waffle sandwich which was so delicious. Crispy chicken, bacon, and Gouda between two waffles, served with a side of syrup and home fries. It was very good, and I'd like to go back and try some of the non-brunch items! The restaurant itself was very small with no more than probably 15 tables. Service was quick and friendly as well! They feature a lot of craft beer on tap, and have an extensive list of mixed drinks (including mimosas and Bellini for brunch). I highly recommend Mudtown, and will definitely be back in the future to try out some different menu items!

We ordered through takeoutbham.com . The food arrived hot but I feel that was about the best quality we received. The pasta marinara was excessively sweet and the kids chicken fingers were completely flavorless. For the adults, we ordered the grilled fish of the day and the spicy bayou burger. The fish was so dense and lacked any hint of flavoring while the burger was flavorless and not spicy. We also ordered the bacon mashed potatoes and the sour cream was so heavy it overpowered all other ingredients. We where highly disappointed and will not be ordering from Mudtown in the future (in restaurant or through take out). We wanted to try Mudtown for over a year before we ordered and are let down with the quality.

Dined at Mudtown for the second time, so I've had dinner and lunch here now. The Jamaican Jerk pulled pork sandwich was so good for dinner the first time I couldn't stray from it when I returned a few months later for lunch. SO good. Try it. Hard to even describe the unique flavors, you just have to try it. Yes, the parking lot is small and awkward, but there's plenty of spots in the CVS (or whatever pharmacy is next door) parking lot. Service was great too, love Mudtown and its sister restaurant The Ridge just across 280 in Rocky Ridge!

Scenario: It's Friday, you want a good lunch(maybe an adult beverage), you're somewhere on the 280 corridor and you don't want to mess with crazy Summit crowds or a cookie cutter chain restaurant... Mudtown is the place for you! this little gem is tucked away in Cahaba Heights, about a 1 minute from both the Summit and Whole foods. Their food is delicious(I recommend the Reuben) and the setting is charming. A local pub feel inside with a great patio seating and seating on the front porch, a friendly staff and fresh food fast. Give Mudtown a try!

Had dinner tonight at Mudtown in Cahaba Heights. I hadn't been there for a while but not much has changed and that's a good thing. Located in an old house, they have a small dining room, a small bar (8? stools), and a covered deck that ends up being 1 story above ground. Sounds confusing but you have to see it. The bar has a nice beer selection with local breweries Avondale, Good People and Cahaba well represented on tap, along with regulars like Blue Moon and Stella. Bottled beers, wine & mixed drinks are also available. The menu has a great variety of foods prepared with interesting sauces and flavors. There are also great burgers and sides like Fried Green Tomatoes. My wife had the Shrimp with Lettuce Wraps and really enjoyed it. I had the Patty Melt and it was cooked medium rare like I ordered it - a nice change from the usual well done burger regardless how you order it. It had a bit too much salt for my taste, but was still good. The Fried Green Tomatoes were thick, crunchy & yum. The dipping sauce was good, too. For dessert they offer homemade fried pies with vanilla ice cream but had run out the night we were there. It's a nice, somewhat quirky place that's locally owned (always a plus) with good service & good food. I'll be going back sooner next time.

Anyone that has given Mudtown anything less than 5 stars should probably just go to McDonalds. The place is amazing. Really great people and even better food. Everything on the menu is(or looks) delicious. If you "have a bad experience" you should probably get your head out of your butt and go somewhere else. If you're gonna be picky and act like a prick then just get a microwave meal and do the restaurant industry a favor by not eating out. If you don't work in the food industry then you have no right criticizing service.

This is the most well hidden treasure in Birmingham, possibly in all of Alabama!! The food, staff, atmosphere, price, everything is amazing. These folks don't just run a place to eat, they know and love food. I call for the directions (it is behind Walgreens, google maps will get you lost!) and the man I talked to on the phone (I think he was the owner) recognized is when we came in. He was so nice and funny and knowledgeable, he made great suggestions and made the visit so much fun. I had the Jamaican pork sandwich with tomato chutney at his suggestion and I'm not lying when I say that this was probably in the top three best sandwiches I've ever had in my life. I did not know pork could be so tender and juicy, it practically melted in my mouth. The sweet tea was amazing, the bacon smashed potatoes were epic and it's so affordable!!! The atmosphere is so comfortable, a nice little bar, a tv with the ball game on, a super nice outdoor area....you can't go wrong here!!!! Plead go try this hidden treasure and tell your friends!!!!!!

My bestie and I were sitting down enjoying our po boy and smoked pork sandwich, when all of a sudden one of the staff members...... 1. Continuously blew his nose into a tissue with his hand 2. Then coughed into his bare hand 3. Then scratched his leg 4. Went about his business like nothing happened We were completely disgusted and stopped mid-meal to ask for our check. If this guy had no qualms about doing this in front of customers, it seems like a fair assumption to assume this happens regularly. After we had paid, I ended up telling our server why we were suddenly leaving. His concern seemed disingenuous. If he wants to eat from boogey, skin, and germ hands, then he is more than welcome. I'd rather pass. 2 stars because up until that point I was enjoying my food.

My girlfriend and I checked this place out on a Tuesday night (which happened to be $5 margaritas). It's definitely quaint, pretty small actually, so if it's busy, it's pretty easy to overhear other people's conversations, or bump into them as you're going to and from your seat. All that aside, the food was really good. Started off by splitting the Mudtown Mudcakes (two crabcakes). These guys are each the size of a softball, pretty filling, and a very decent crabcake. I 'll go ahead and say now, I wasn't super impressed with the plating of each dish. Sauces in styrofoam cups, everything was simple, easy, not really a big deal or concern since the price is right, and this isn't Iron Chef so no need to take off points for presentation. Anyway, from the crabcakes we hit the Fries Green Tomatoes. I don't even like tomatoes, and I enjoyed these. It was an order of six huge slices of green tomatoes with an awesome sauce. Pretty darn tasty. My girlfriend ordered the Caribe Chicken, which had an island rice and coconut rum sauce if I'm remembering correctly - and it was excellent. I got the monte cristo, and this was unlike any monte cristo I've ever had before. The sandwich was fantastic. Tons of different flavors between the meats, the honey mustard, and the pepper jelly sauce I dipped it in. All in all, the combination was incredible and I was not expecting it from just a simple sandwich. Next time I go ill probably focus more on their cocktails, selection of wines, and local beers, but as far as food goes, this place is a must try without a doubt.

First off if you're in B-ham and you're all like "what to eat tonight?"..here's your place! Cute atmosphere (very close sitting, so you get to know your neighbor), and the food? It's a perfect way to settle your indecisiveness! The burger I had was great but those fried dill-pickles! WOW! And the mysterious white sauce is a must! Great drink menus and the staff is hometown friendly! 4 stars go to Mudtown!!

This place is AWESOME. We stopped in because of the positive yelp reviews on our way driving from Montgomery to Nashville for lunch last Sunday. Upon arrival I was skeptical as places this small are usually really bad for kids- but as we walked in and were promptly sat I learned that this is not your typical hole in the wall. The server (owner, I think) came up and immediately engaged my 3.5 year old twin daughters.. He really treated them great and immediately got their food order in so my wife and I could look at the menu. We chose sandwiches (crab cake, and Monte Christo) and they were both delicious. The food was great, ambiance was superb, treatment of the kids ROCKED and was just overall an amazing dining experience. Definitely worth going out of your way to eat here... we added 15 miles to our trip doing so and I'll do it again every time I am near Birmingham.

My wife and I went to Mudtown tonight after hearing how great it was from a friend. We weren't disappointed. The shrimp PO' boy was excellent. My wife's salad was great. This was our first time having fried green tomatoes, and they were delicious, just like the menu said. Also worth mentioning was our waiter, Michael. He was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back. This is a great, low-key place that is great for a quick family meal or even just a few drinks... The beer menu is great too.

My favorite burger in all of Birmingham. Mudtown always has the feel of a unique place to come eat and hangout. A varied cast of wonderful servers caters to your every need as they catch up on their regulars lives. Michael especially is my favorite. Today i found that I can get an egg on burger and it's not even on the menu! This alone spurred me onto to finally write a yelp review. A must eat at place if you live in the area.

I was very excited to try this cute little restaurant out, but quickly disappointed with rude service and food that was only so-so. The food looking back wasn't that bad, but the service being short and the server being pretty temperamental ruined the whole experience. After multiple tries, I can say that I definitely will not be back.

I ate at Mudtown for the first time last Sunday afternoon. I went with my 4yo daughter and my hubby. We had a couple of beers from their excellent selection, and I ordered shrimp and grits. The meal was absolutely delicious, and the service and atmosphere were outstanding! We will be eating there again as soon as we can. Give it a try!

Try: fried green tomatoes with corn relish & special white sauce

parking lot defies physics... but worth it for the food. what i love about this place is the size of their water glasses... they are HUGE, so you don't have to constantly ask waitstaff for more water. you seat yourself, so look around for a table and make a run for it if it's empty. place fills up fast. had the fried pickles and fried green tomatoes...deeelish! and the merckle masa catfish entree....deelish! merlot to wash it all down. hubby had a hamburger...not the best he's ever had, but still very good. we love love loved the laid back, unpretentious appeal of this place. their parking lot defies physics... we parked at a 60 degree angle and somehow also made it out. one of our favorite bham eateries.

Typical neighborhood bar/restaurant. The burger is probably the best thing they make here, but I think there are better burgers to be found elsewhere. This is a fine place to eat if you are in the area and want something casual. The deck is nice, but there is a large awning that makes it feels very cave-like.

This place is killer! I will definitely be coming back here! The food was excellent and the service was super! I ordered the "Cahaba Chicken Sandwich" with a side salad. If you look at the recent photos, I posted a picture of what the side salad consists of. My ONLY complaint about my experience here was the side salad. Let's be honest Mudtown, it was pretty weak. The Chicken sandwich was absolutely delicious- great for a light meal! My friend ordered the "Shrimp and Grits" and it was one of the best things I have ever tasted. Super good. His wife ordered a burger and it was AWESOME. Not just your average hole in the wall diner food; surprisingly super super good! We came here based on the positive feedback based on their yelp reviews and it definitely lived up to the hype! If this is your first time coming to the restaurant, be weary of where its location. I had to backtrack twice because I kept missing the location that was given on the yelp app. The restaurant looks like an old two story house and is located on the top level of a couple other businesses that sit below it. Overall - I will def be coming back here! Highly recommended for a quiet evening with family and friends!

Awesome time at Mudtown tonight. Christine was a great waitress and was super knowledgeable about the menu. We received a complimentary fried pickle appy since it was our first time there. We also had the fried green tomatoes with their white sauce Which was very tasty with some zing. For the entree I got the shrimp and grits which Christine recommended and it was GREAT! had enough spice in it to keep me thirsty too. The grits were very flavorful and there were plenty of shrimp and sausage. Great atmosphere and service. Presentation was average but at Mudtown, presentation isn't the draw... It's the food and atmosphere that made this place great!

Great place on a tough night for the staff!!! Christine the bar manager was a vision of grace under pressure. She took care of special drink order for our 11 year old and after a power-outage that silenced the computer cash registers, she kept the place humming along and the guests were happy! Fantastic beer on tap and a great fried green tomato sandwich...I wish I lived close enough to be a regular. Highly recommended!! CHRISTINE FOR PRESIDENT

Stumbled on Mudtown almost by accident! We were looking to try some local food in Alabama. The parking is bad (on a steep hill), but they admit it on the menu, hah! + Our waitress was excellent + She brought us samples of beer to try, made great suggestions, and was very friendly + We ate on the outdoor patio. Atmosphere and noise level were perfect + I had the fried green tomatoes and local fish with corn... It turned out to be mahi mahi and was fantastic + An overall great experience. I would for sure bring someone here if I was visiting Alabama again!

Oh, dear! My expectations were probably too high. Our party of 8 showed up on a Sunday, sixish, and we were immediately seated. So charming and such friendly greetings by the staff! Menus delivered and drink orders were taken immediately. Nice alcohol selections, and they serve Pepsi products, which my peeps love. Smoked wings tasted more like smoke-flavored-additive wings - meat was just not smoky enough to convince me otherwise. Fried pickles were overdone, but they softened up in the delicious white sauce. Dinner was a roller coaster of very good (shrimp & grits, buffalo chicken fingers) decent (burgers - but one of the buns had to be replaced because it had been over-toasted to the point of being a dental hazard, and a pleasant Philly cheesesteak), and then the disappointing (over-breaded and over-fried rubbery shrimp, and thin, barely detectable overdone fried green tomatoes and mahi mahi that was also overdone). Fries were not a big hit, either. This meal left us wondering whether there was a new cook in the kitchen or if those 5-star reviews that brought us in were for the shrimp & grits. I'm just a bit disappointed that I didn't get the shrimp & grits. I hope we just caught them on an off night. The charm is there, and they've been around a while. Best wishes!!

I've drove by Mudtown many times and thought how nice a beer on the patio would be. Well today we made the trip to Cahaba Heights all the way from Irondale (note sarcasm) and we parked on the huge hill(nonexistent) and tried Mudtown for lunch. We opted to sit inside since it's was a bit warm. Inside is quaint with many tables fit in there so it's a great place to listen to conversations and check out what others are eating. We got 2 draft beers and may I add I was impressed with the beer selection. We started out with the fried green tomatoes and they were thick, crispy and hot aka awesome! The menu has many yummy options to chose from I went with the Jamaican Pork Sandwich it was hot, soggy and flavorful. It wouldn't hurt to add a bit more jerk to it for that extra kick. The apple cider slaw is a great topper on the sandwich hence the soggy bottom. My boyfriend got the Monte Cristo that is his sandwich. He said it was good(looked great) but didn't top his best list for Monte Cristo. Although he did enjoy it and we both look forward to returning and trying a few more dishes. Thanks for a great lunch see ya sooner than later!

Great brunch menu. Had Sunday brunch there with another couple. My Conecuh Sausage omelet was great the others were pleased with their choices as well. The service was prompt & the staff friendly. We will be back in the near future. The only down side is the parking lot.

Great neighborhood spot. It's the kinda place you want to go right after work. Small covered side patio adds some outdoor seating that is really fun. Not the largest beer selection, but it's very well put together. If all beer lists were this well thought out you wouldn't need the places that offer a gazillion choices.

This is not bad parking.

parking lot defies physics... but worth it for the food. what i love about this place is the size of their water glasses... they are HUGE, so you don't have to constantly ask waitstaff for more water. you seat yourself, so look around for a table and make a run for it if it's empty. place fills up fast. had the fried pickles and fried green tomatoes...deeelish! and the merckle masa catfish entree....deelish! merlot to wash it all down. hubby had a hamburger...not the best he's ever had, but still very good. we love love loved the laid back, unpretentious appeal of this place. their parking lot defies physics... we parked at a 60 degree angle and somehow also made it out. one of our favorite bham eateries.

Typical neighborhood bar/restaurant. The burger is probably the best thing they make here, but I think there are better burgers to be found elsewhere. This is a fine place to eat if you are in the area and want something casual. The deck is nice, but there is a large awning that makes it feels very cave-like.

I was very excited to try this cute little restaurant out, but quickly disappointed with rude service and food that was only so-so. The food looking back wasn't that bad, but the service being short and the server being pretty temperamental ruined the whole experience. After multiple tries, I can say that I definitely will not be back.

Mudtown is definitely a hidden treasure. The food, especially the lettuce wraps is absolutely amazing!! You definitely can't leave and not try the fried pies. This place will become one of our favorites!

Great brunch menu. Had Sunday brunch there with another couple. My Conecuh Sausage omelet was great the others were pleased with their choices as well. The service was prompt & the staff friendly. We will be back in the near future. The only down side is the parking lot.

I've tried a few things, but nothings truly hit the spot. Nothing spectacular about this place nor does anything really stick out. Mediocre food, good service though. Parking can be a pain.

Brunch is pretty good southern food, but the parking and service could use a little help. Location couldn't be better.
