Moe's a stable of the UAB medical district. Competent, fast, and friendly service keeps me coming back every Monday for their Moe's Monday special. As a student, I get an additional 10% discount off of my total price, which on top of the $5.55 burrito + chips deal comes out to be $4.58. You can't beat that. $4.58 for 1.5 meals!! The one small criticism I have about this place is that they don't allow you to call in your order. Sometimes I have a very small window for lunch and I'd like to be able to order over the phone and just go pick it up. They replaced the phone functionality with a order over the internet type of thing, but I've had issues getting the order to go through. I'm sure they will get the kinks sorted out sooner or later, though. Fun fact about Moes: They only have pictures of famous artist look-a-likes hung up on the walls. Also, they only play music from deceased artists. Kind of an odd piece of trivia but take it as you will.

A for convenience B- for consistency Smack dab in the middle of the UAB hospital district, this burrito place is an easy lunch option for students and medical staff. Their offerings include quesadillas, burritos, burrito bowls, tacos, salads (served in tacos), and a variety of other more off-the-wall options. Many include "your choice of free toppings", which includes, but is not limited to: sour cream, cheese, black olives, grilled peppers, pico de gallo, corn pico, cilantro, and chipotle ranch. You can easily fill your taco/burrito/bowl/salad chock full of side goodies... depending on the day. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much consistency at this location in terms of food quantity and quality. On Mondays, when the "Any burrito $5.55" deal is on, they are more than generous, heaping the requested toppings on without a word. Other times, I have to beg for more than one tiny scoop of cheese. And don't get me started on the chips (sometimes, I feel like I could feed a small army, and other times, I have hardly a fourth the chips needed to finish the tub of queso they provide with the meals). They DO have that crazy cool drink machine that allows you to mix flavors with your popular soda choices. I'll almost always skip on the soda, unless the restaurant has one of these babies! Overall, a good quick lunch option, but don't expect too much.

Staff is aways very friendly. Food is pretty fresh. There's only been one time that I've had semi-stale chips there. I'm a big fan of their salsa bar and unlimited chip refills. Oh, and the drink machine where you can add any flavor, such as vanilla, to your soda is pretty sweet! My biggest tip to patrons would be this, plan your lunchtime carefully. With the one I go to being right next to the hospital, it gets flooded with hospital staff from about 11-3. So, if you can't deal with a super late lunch, I'd suggest going at an odd time, like 12:50, because most staff that needs relief to leave to get lunch, like nurses, get it on the hour or half hour.

No coca cola in the machine. Water machine was out of ice. I have been to over 7 different Moes and probably more than 120 times. No exaggeration. NEVER had a place not been able to put my burrito on the grill. This one told me they couldn't. Out of salsa. Not happy at all.

You gotta love this place. As a chain, they've got the welcome("Welcome to Moe's" yelled anytime you come in), they've got the deals (free queso day, Moe Monday- $5 burritos, etc) and they've got good food! Things often hard to find at chain places. This location is downtown with outdoor and indoor seating, close to Railroad Park, and several hospitals, and has on street parking. The staff are kind and helpful, and the incredible coke machine gives you too many options of how to make an awesome coke. You can also register your phone # there and get updates and texts on deals and sign in every time you visit, and on the tenth visit (or something like that) you get a free meal! Go and check out this nice downtown chain and get ready to be blown away with a hearty- "WELCOME TO MOE'S!"

Good food. Love it. Only gets 4 stars bc they don't always greet you. They need to work on it a little bit more.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
