Went through drive-thru at lunch today for two double burgers, two fries for our lunch. For a few years when we lived out of town, we were addicted to Milo's and stopped on every visit home. We aren't regulars any longer, but occasionally crave that fresh onion with the unique sauce, and the fries covered in seasoned salt. It's not a big burger, the buns are unusually skinny, but the proportions work. If you know anything about Milos I don't even need to mention that the tea was sweet perfection. The drive-thru was crowded but moved quickly and the employee at the window was welcoming and articulate enough to be understood through the speakers.

Milo's burgers are pretty unique. They're a bit love 'em or hate 'em. Don't get me wrong; for the most part, they're actually decent fast food burgers. But they're topped with pickles, onions, and a very peculiar barbecue sauce -- tangy, sweet, and just a little bit smoky. Personally, I found the sauce a bit overwhelming, even on a return trip here. But then again, who am I to judge what seems like something of an acquired taste? (And a widely acquired one down here in Alabama, it seems.) The sides and desserts range from mediocre to awful. The crinkle-cut fries are nothing special, and the sugar-dusted pies are nearly inedible. (Seriously, the pies at McDonald's are both cheaper and far more delicious.) Still, I have to give Milo's credit for their awesomely crunchy crushed ice. Goes great in a sweet tea.

Burger is nothing to rave about. Fries are good, but not exceptional. Milk shake was better than expected. In the fast food category, a better choice than McDonalds, Burger King, etc. 3 stars for fast food.

I know I am biased, but Milos is the best fast food restuarant in the world. It is usually one of the highlisht of a trip back to Birmingham for me. For the last 20 some-odd years I have always ordered the same thing; cheeseburger combo-just sauce with a large sweet tea. The burger is juicy and I love that extra little bit of meat on top. The cheese seems to melt into the bread giving it an extra layer of deliciousness. And the sauce, I dream about the sauce. I even get extra to dip the wonderfully seasoned fries in. I love Milos and I hope that its around forever. Everyone should be able to experience the awesomeness that is Milo's.

I heard about Milo's Tea first from Alabama transplants to my own state of Florida. Then I lived in Alabama and began drinking the stuff they sell by the gallon in the grocery store (back home in Florida now too). We recently took a trip to the area, and, naturally, I had to try the fast food restaurant Milo's Hamburgers. The staff I dealt with was very friendly. Food prices seemed exceptionally affordable. We truthfully just needed a pit-stop, but we went ahead and picked up an order of their chicken tenders with both their honey mustard and what they told me was "Milo's Sauce" which seemed to be a take on BBQ sauce. The chicken tenders came with fries, both of which were absolutely delicious. We had dinner plans a few hours down the road, but the food was almost good enough that I had half a mind to turn around and eat more Milo's! I think that about sums up my experience, and I will definitely be back to try the burgers. Did I mention I ordered the largest size Milo's sweet tea to go with the chicken tenders? I think that's a must!

Fries were pretty good albeit kind of lukewarm. Burger...what can I say, overcooked..dry...with an almost bitter BBQ sauce. Not my cup of tea. Sorry Milo's I tried to like you.

When I heard a friend speak of Milo's, I had the impression it was a traditional restaurant. Upon arrival in Birmingham, I found out it was more of a fast food place. This doesn't necessarily take away from the food, it just caught me off-guard. I had their original hamburger combo meal with a peach pie. It seems Southerners really like their pie, and who can fault them for that? Pie should be a food group. The burger itself had a sauce and onion topping that was new to me. It tasted like a better quality McRib, however they burnt the bun a bit and my friend said there's usually more sauce on them. To be honest, more sauce would have helped. I don't have much to say about the fries, but the sweet tea was indeed a refreshment in the classical sense. It was refreshing to drink. I'm sure we've all had refreshments that have left us wanting from time to time. It can be a challenge to find good sweet tea in the North, because I doubt they know how to brew it correctly. After the meal, I have to say it's worth at least one try. It's near and dear to the residents of Birmingham and a decent fast food meal.

I couldn't eat this burger every day, but it will create an occasional craving. Those who don't like it, probably didn't give it much of a chance because they wanted mustard, lettuce, etc. Definitely an acquired taste.

Simply put, Milo's is the best fast food burger money can buy. Some days, I just crave these burgers, and nothing else can be substituted for them. Of course the fries are amazing as well, and the pies, but when they introduced their grilled chicken sandwich I had my doubts. But somehow, Milo's managed to prepare one of the best Chicken Sandwiches in fast food. So either way, chicken or beef, Milo's tops them all. Way to go.

A Birmingham main-stay. Burgers are served with a smokey BBQ "secret" sauce, onion and pickle. Seasoned fries are good and the signature sweet tea is outstanding. My personal preference is to order my burger without the sauce.

Summary: Food: 4 1/2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 VALUE: 2 (Food divided by price of money spent) Unique taste with and equally rare and flavorful sauces (Boom Boom and House-sauce) that comes with a high price for a fast food establishment; great for light-eaters and children, but not economical for mid-to-heavy food lovers. Food: The cheese burgers here are unique. Soft bread, on the verge of soggy, with melted cheese and a very good house-sauce. The burger is very small, approximately 2 inches in height, with a very thin layer of meet that appears to be folded in, which gives the appearance of a double layer of meat. The cheese and the sauce are the highlight of the burger. The meet tastes like a patty that is in between McDonald's and Jack In the Box: a thin, heavily salted, and tasty patty. The only problem with the burger is that it is very expensive given that it is so small. around $4.00 dollars for the burger itself. This is pretty much the standard price for burgers nowadays. However, that to me is only worth it if it gets you full, which this burger does not (even with the fries). I would much rather go to Jim N Nicks and pay $4 dollars more for there Southern Burger, which is FLIPPIN AMAZING. Their fries are crisp, tasty, and seasoned very well with "seasoned salt." Their fries are only amazing if you get their sauces. You MUST get an extra dipping sauce of their house-sauce and the BOOM BOOM sauce. The boom boom sauce is a tangy, lightly spicy, and sweet sauce that almost tastes like a better version of thousand islands (which it most likely is probably modified from). Dip fries into these sauces or their honey mustard and profit. Their chicken tenders are very crisp on the outside and very moist and flavorful on the inside. The only problem is that they are a little over $1.00 a piece and are VERY VERY SMALL. 5 dollars after tax for 4 little pieces of chicken is a very heavy loss in my book. The sweet tea is great and doesn't taste extremely artificial, which is the problem with 95% of other restaurant teas. There is a reason this is sold in jugs at Walmart down the street. Service: They give you the food after you order, this is cool because you don't have that waiting experience that normally happens at your table. However, this may leave you standing for a while if it is packed. Service was fine, they all worked very hard, and efficient. Atmosphere: Nothing special, nothing terrible. A normal fast-food establishment. VALUE: (This is the reason for 3 stars, incoming rant) If the burgers and tenders were cheaper I'd come here every other day. Lets put it this way, me and the girlfriend are both very short asians. I ordered 2 cheesburger combos that come with fries and 4 pieces of chicken tenders, along with 2 drinks. We devoured everything, and were still HUNGRY. The bill came out to $17.00 (2 people) for fast food! If I go to Carl's Jr. (I believe it is Hardy's here) and spend $10 dollars on just 2 burgers the girlfriend and I will be stuffed. If I go to Jim N Nicks and get their 2 of their Southern Burgers (comes with fries), which is almost one of the most flavorful burgers I have had, I will spend the same amount of money (compared to all the food items from Milo's) and be stuffed with a higher quality product. I will be so stuffed with a smile on my face and pooping smoked bacon within 20 minutes. I'm just trying to say that I can get much more for my moneys worth at most other burger joints. The food is great, but the price is not, which makes for bad value and means I will not return.

Delicious as always! However, the only way to get inside is to cross over the drive tru traffic, which is weird.

The fries glowed bright orange with so much popcorn salt that they were not edible. Our mouths literally burned from the salt as we tried to eat the food. My wife's cheeseburger has so much sauce that it drowned out any flavor in the meat. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with "spicy boom boom" sauce. The chicken was moist and tender but was devoid of seasoning. The sauce was a redish/orange color and tasted of mayonnaise, paprika and pepper flakes. There was no heat. Another diner in line in front of us tried to order a burger with lettuce and tomato and they were clearly put off a place that couldn't meet their request or even sell them the condiments on the side. Milo's plays by their own rules and seem to embrace the idea of take it or leave it. The staff was friendly and chatty but the food ranged from simply terrible and peaked out around what you'd expect at a high school lunch room. Were it not for the service, I'd give them one star. The other patrons seemed to be regulars who were content with the product, we left totally disappointed and have no intent to return.

Yuck. Not worth it. Fries over salted with seasoned salt. Chicken tenders are ok. Milo's sauce is gross

I've heard horror stories from all of the Milo's. My conclusion is that they serve inferior grade meat and cover it up with that sauce...My mother had the worst case of food poisoning in her life from Milo's. A friend found a blood vessel in its meat...Shall I go on ? If you have to eat there, eat the chicken. The "beef" is not to be trusted.

Eh. It was hyped to me by a few locals so I had to try it, but I was left going "Eh, it was OK". The charred burger bun overpowered the burger itself and while the fries were delicious (not sure what the orange power was on some fries but it was a nice seasoning) and their Sweet Tea is like crack for Southerners, I had higher hopes for the burger itself. Their BBQ sauce is really delicious, though - if you go, be sure to ask for some BBQ sauce to dip your fries.

Milos is a staple for Birmingham natives. Recently, however, it's gotten too inconsistent for my tastes and it saddens me to admit that I only go now if I can't suppress the craving. As a teenager Milos was my favorite burger joint in town. In recent years the original owner sold the franchise and the new owner isn't nearly as invested in the product. Unfortunately, this lack of interest shows in the food. Service has improved but I can't count the times that my fries have been soggy, my drink has been overloaded with ice, or my burger has been severely lacking special sauce. I think the prices have gone up to boot. If you're in town you should definitely stop by just to see if it's your cup of tea. The lines can be long (which used to be more of a problem when the service was shoddy) but the wait is generally worth it. I prefer dining in to take-out because refills are free and the ketchup is damn good.

I am not a fast food eater. But sometimes it is just part of life when you are an American. In the mix of fast food chains, I believe this is the only one of a few that may be worth writing about. This burger is one of a kind with the mix of onions and barbeque sauce. The fries are fresh cooked to order and the special seasoning is great (just tell them to go easy on it if you are sensitive to salt). This place is a unique Alabama experience not to be missed by any out of town visitor. Have the sweet tea and a fried pie too. These folks knock it down right. The Milo's burger is to Alabama what the In-and-Out Burger is to California. Milo's is a burger that can hold its own on the red carpet fame of the burger world. Next time I am going to get the double! Go ahead... you know you want to do it too!

Two words for you, people of San Francisco: Sweet. Tea. Don't know what it is? Do a Google search. Then get on a plane, head south, and hit up the first Milo's you happen upon. While you're at it, grab a double hamburger with special sauce. Extra special sauce. And a side of toasted cheese From there you're on your own. Warning: This operation has the potential to decimate the In-n-Out experience forever. FOREVER.

Ew. What do people see in this place? We had a very hard time getting our order right and then getting charged right. (The cashier admitted to driving back and forth to Montgomery the night before and attending a college class, all since her last shift, so she could barely remember her name.) Then the food. Ugh. The sauce is flavorless. There are no vegetables besides onions. The fries have the same salt sprinkle as Zaxby's. The sweet tea is unremarkable. We have tried Milo's and we are done. Yuck.

All I had heard from people was "you have to eat at Milo's" so last time I was in Birmingham I stopped by. I'll give it credit for being unique. It's not just a typical burger place...the problem I had was- you have a signature sauce that is the basis for your burgers and....the sauce sucks. I tried to like it and couldn't. The meat was GREAT, the buns were GREAT. But this would be a 5 star burger for me if I could just get some lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo instead of that sauce. I'll definately go back but this time hold the sauce. Fries were good and of course the sweet tea is good but did I mention I don't care for the sauce?

My wife is from Birmingham and ever since I started coming here I've been in love with this place. The second I get off the plane it is the first place I want to go straight from the airport, I'll even time our flights so we can get in for lunch if at all possible. That sweet tea and amazing sauce are just to die for. It didn't start out that way, I was pretty skeptical on my first visit, but boy did I fall in love fast. Going with 4 stars just because I can't responsibly rate a fast food joint as 5 stars. But as fast food burger joints go I'd take this one over any of the others, including In N Out. I fully realize that is heresy to California natives, but this place is just better.

Why is everyone so crazy about Milo's? It's hamburgers with barbecue sauce and fries with nasty orange seasoning salt. The people who work there are rude. Just go to Five Guys. It has one redeeming quality: the Splenda sweet tea is really good.

I went here based on the reviews. I was totally disappointed. I felt that it was over priced and poor service. Maybe it's just a local thing. I will not go back again.

Hi, my name is Louay and I am a Milo's sweet tea addict. Since I've moved to Chicago, there are two things I crave from Alabama (Milo's sweet tea and Chick-fil-a sandwiches). I Still think there is an addictive substance found in their sweet tea that makes me crave for it nightly. OK, now the food, you can't spell southern cooking without grease and Milo's burgers come with their fare-share. The special sauce is excellent and unique. I highly recommend this place for lunch. Grab their burger combo with a large sweet tea and enjoy.

There's something in the sauce.... DH (Dear Husband) - What is this place? ME: it's hamburgers with special secret sauce with extra meat and pickles DH: Oh, like McD's? ME: wait a month from now, you'll gonna be craving Milo's and Milo's tea Six years later: every time we are in town to visit family DH and l land in the International Birmingham Airport or (BHM) and drive directly to Milo's for his 'fix'. It could be five stars if they would expand to the West.
