While they do have a few more offerings than your typical Mexican restaurant (flaming cheese, higher-end guacamole) I still consider it average. Service is decent. The margaritas are weak -- clearly the result of trying to get more for THEIR money, but this is typical in most Mexican restaurants. The chicken soup is good and fresh but for $9.50 I would have thought it should be all pulled white meat as opposed to one whole chicken leg as the only chicken in the soup. The high-end guacamole has very few avacados and is mainly pico de gallo. Stick with the regular. All that being said, it is our first choice for Mexican food in the immediate area.

I get it. I see how you think it's ridiculous to give an Americanized Mexican restaurant five stars. I have my rationale though and I'll share it with you. It's because it's hands down the best Americanized Mexican restaurant in Birmingham. I'd rather eat at a four star authentic taco truck than here most days, but some days you just want a good American Mexican Restaurant. And when you do, you should just come here. Everything is good. They do a flaming cheese dish which is great (think fajita ingredients on a sizzling skillet that is lined with oaxaca cheese) They give diners an awesome complimentary black bean salsa dip in addition to the regular salsa they provide. The prices are great, the food is good quality, and the building is new and clean. There's something about this place that proclaims "soy el rey de restaurantes mexicanos". I'll bow down to that when I'm hungry.

Honestly it was just decent. I was hoping after the reviews that is would be another go-to Mexican spot on this side of town. But the other options around here were better. Starting off, the menu was not as extensive as other Americanized Mexican places. Nothing with mole. Not a big variety of combos. Just not overly impressive. Someone wrote in a previous review that you get black bean dip. That was not the case for us. The chips and salsa to start were just not that good. Not bad... just not good. We both got the fajita quesadilla. And it was actually pretty good. The Pico was fresh with a lot of cilantro... a good thing in our book. But the rice was fairly bland and not your typical Americanized "Mexican" rice that has a lot of flavor. Overall our experience was not bad. The service was great. But it was just like the 3-star review says... just A-OK. We will definitely give it another shot. But right now, it is not becoming our go-to Mexican spot around our new home.

Happy hour is great....especially saturday(all day). The margaritas are ok(can't beat 2.99). lunch with is big portions and cheap. The flamming cheese is my favorite although I wish more cheese( easy to split between 2 people). For the money...you can't beat it. Its a clean and safe location!

This place is located in a shopping center off of Crestwood Blvd. It's a tasty hidden gem that's modestly priced especially for the amount of food you get with each meal. I live close by so I have ordered carry out about four times and I have been very satisfied with each experience. Each carry out experience has taken a mere ten minutes for them to cook and prepare the food. The best deal in my opinion is any of their fajita options. For dinner I've ordered the Fiesta Fajitas. It's a beef, chicken, and shrimp combination. It also comes with rice and beans. It's enough to share easily between two people and it's my favorite dish on the menu. They have a wide variety of options on the menu so you should be able to order any dish you might be in the mood for. They also have great lunch specials if you're watching how much you spend. I highly recommend this joint if you are in the Irondale/Crestwood area. Simple and straightforward tex mex.

Stopped in for lunch and got the shrimp beef and chicken fajitas. Service was good and food was yummy. Prices were reasonable. I recommend this place.

This is my new go-to for a workday lunch cheap Mexican food fix. Most of the lunch specials are priced UNDER $6, with lunch fajitas (which come on a sizzling skillet) still under $7. Chips are good, salsa is fresh and refilled often. Try the pechuga con chorizo, grilled chicken with chorizo all covered in queso.

Not really that impressed, although they do seem to have a lot of liquor specials, not my reason for going for mexican. Emphasis seems to be heavy on meat/steak dishes, also not what I'm after. Not thrilled with a pushy persistent waiter anywhere, and there he was. Bland salsa. I'm in the neighborhood, but this won't be my neighborhood Mexican food.

The only reason I can't give this place a 5 star is because who ever is marketing should do a better job because this place is absolutely amazing I had the fajita burrito with steak OMG it was absolutely amazing plus all the tortilla chips and salsa one can eat if you are in the crestwood area please stop in!!

Solid meh. I stopped in Tuesday after grabbing a few items from Home Depot as we have been waiting about a year for this place to open. Well I sit down and open the menu to find out it's your typical gringo cheesey combo "Mexican" rather than something more authentic. I asked if they had al pastor, carnitas, etc. tacos and was told no. So I ordered a fine but forgettable combo. It was a bit bland so I asked for salsa picante but had to request it three times before I received a small dish of it only to find it really watery and bland. I pushed it aside and finished the ok chips and pretty good salsa which already had a hint of kick and finished my meal. Upon payment, I inquired about the pricing and was told that I was charged an extra $1 for the additional salsa "picante" that sucked. Oh well, we will stick with Los Amigos which is closer for that type of Mexican food and continue to drive to Hoover or West Valley for more authentic options.

They have such a great menu with plenty to choose from. The service I spot on and fast. Food is soooooo good and they always give you a lot for a great price. They also have great deals like $1 taco Tuesdays!

Really enjoy the salsa here; it is always chunky with just the right amount of cilantro. Perfectly average to better than average Mexican food for Americans. Always get good service from friendly staff. Great specials during the week and close to home. Make certain you don't miss the small menu tucked in the salt and pepper holder. There is a special guacamole on that menu that is freshly made and delicious.

The service was the best I've seen in quite some time. The food was delicious and very affordable and the portions were so big we had to take some home. I thought the guacamole casero and the caldo de pollo were especially good. My husband had the especial tapatio plate and he liked the chile relleno the best although it was all good.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
