The hype from airline magazines brought me in here. The place is more like a diner than a restaurant. Even though the food was tasty at the good serving temperature, I felt like the fish was from frozen boxes instead of fresh catch. I like their fried Zucchini.

I had the Cedar plank salmon and it was very dry and not seasoned very well. I've been to other locations around the country so my expectations were high for a good quality meal after a day of travel. This was disappointing. Service was good though.

Dropped in late and sat at the bar and the service could not have been better. At the bartender's suggestion, I ordered the the Snapper Hemingway. Yum! It was a nice fillet, cooked perfectly in a brown butter sauce and topped with a handful of lump crabmeat. The grilled asparagus on the side was spot-on. I'm not in Birmingham often but when I return it will be dinner at Landrys for sure.

I found this place on Yelp when I was staying in Birmingham with my family. After looking for a place to take my grandmother, I landed on Landry's, and I'm glad I did. The service was impeccable. Our server (Carly, I believe), was courteous, kind, knew all the specials and provided us with information about drinks and food and whether or not we could substitute items. She kept our glasses full and our plates cleared and was overall very lovely. We had the calamari as an appetizer and I really enjoyed the little bits of fried vegetables mixed in with the squid. For dinner, I had Shrimp Enbrochette. Oh my goodness. It was shrimp stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon. I mean, that's three of my favorite things right there. To say it was good was an understatement--it was fabulous. I was allowed to substitute a side for their zucchini cake and I'm glad I did. It was cheesy and gooey and absolutely lovely. My dad's scallops were fresh, my aunt and grandmother loved their salmon and my mom was really pleased with her pasta. Overall, this was a great place to have dinner. If I'm ever back in Birmingham I'll definitely revisit. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for great atmosphere, phenomenal staff and incredible food.

I've been here a few times but this was the first in 3-4 years. We sat at the bar with friends to eat. The service was a little slower as she was very busy with the other guest and fixing drinks for the house. My friend has a shrimp allergy and come to find out that all their fried food is cooked in the same grease. And shrimp is also cook on the grill. So,, he ended up (almost having to) eat raw oysters. Which were good. The prices are somewhat on the higher end of a chain.

Lunch at Landry's Seafood & Steakhouse was outstanding in so many ways. Let me enlighten you as to why: First, entering the building, with nice music was welcoming. Then being met with a very friendly employee, who seated us at a table with a nice view of flowers, was appreciated, too. Next, our waiter Cosby, another very friendly employee who had spent time in our home state of Oregon, became our new best friend. So fun visiting with him! Last, but certainly not least, I'd like to attempt to describe my wonderful meal. The Shrimp Scampi was prepared well with hints of of garlic and several shrimp placed on crostini topped with a light white garlic sauce- delicious! The angel hair pasta was infused with the same yummy sauce mixed with fresh spinach, perfect! This meal, paired with an Italian Pinot Grigio,by Kris, was the best! Thanks to Landry's and Cosby!

Well, we gave Landry's another shot and it was the best decision of the trip. We had the best waitress, Jenelle, and she put up with our B.S. all night! The food was GREAT and we couldn't have, had a better experience. Landry's totally redeemed themselves. I will definitely come, back next time i am in Birmingham. A+ service.

Although I had read the less than glowing reviews of Landry's, there just aren't many dining options for Birmingham on Sunday evening. My friends and I were in town for a Hair Show at the Civic Center and we were all hungry at the end of a long grueling day. All the places we would have preferred to eat were closed on Sunday. I was familiar with Landry's when they first opened fifteen years earlier. I ate there many times and the food was usually very good and they always had fresh fish from the Gulf. Sunday night Landry's was short staffed and even though we had reservations we still had to wait for a half hour to be seated. Our server did all he could to take our orders and explain the specials. He was about the only bright spot of the dismal meal. Now the food was certainly edible but was served on plates that were super heated to keep the food warm while the kitchen finished preparing the meals. By the time we received the food the fish and other items were dried out and had lost a lot of their flavor. I wouldn't go to Landry;s again. We had eaten BBQ the night before and eating more BBQ would have been preferable to visiting Landry's. In Birmingham on Sundays it boils down to Ruth's Chris, Texas de Brazil, BBQ or fast food. Pack a lunch next time you visit on a Sunday.

Avoid getting the Chilean bass it's the most expensive dish and there is no way they can convince me i was not served codfish instead of bass!! The texture and taste was way off I had eat too much Chilean bass to not know what Chilean bass taste like! The food was also too salty! It taste like the cook accidentally drop salt on my food. I feel really cheated and will never return this establishment. It was not worth the $60.

Ok so here's a prime example of only negativity being reviewed. I'm not one to write reviews but wow!! Snapper Hemingway is outstanding and the house dressing rocks!! Little pricey but I'll pay it again if given the opportunity!

I don't understand all the negative reviews. We went there because it was close to our hotel, and we really enjoyed our meal. We had a coupon from the hotel for free appetizer or dessert. Your meal comes with a house salad which is served in a big bowl to share. I thought the salad was very fresh. I ordered the fresh mahi grilled, and I can't really say if it was fresh or previously frozen, but it was quite good. It came with a delicious flavorful rice pilaf and a large portion of broccoli. The husband had the fish and chips, which he said was very good. It came with both onion strings and fries and was a very large portion. For our free dessert, we shared a yummy slice of key lime pie. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I really have no complaints. As for those that are complaining about the prices, I come from California, and this was reasonably priced by my standards.

We ate here for my wife's birthday the first of January, 2014. We've had good food and service here many times in the past, which is why we chose it again. The bad news is, they've apparently changed. Instead of fresh-prepared ingredients, a lot of them are pre-prepared, probably from frozen. Example: in the past, we were able to request changes ("no garlic" and "can you add this?") and this time, we were told, "no, it has already been prepared that way. No changes." I suspect that some cost-cutting Efficiency Moron with Corporate has been going through everything, trying to find ways to increase profitability. Ergo, all the pre-prepared and frozen crap. But Landry's, I'm not paying fresh-prepared prices for frozen stuff. Sorry. I might try you again in a few years, but for now, you've lost our business.

As harsh as it sounds I think this is a wannabe upscale restaurant. The lights are dim, the tables are fancy, the wait staff is nicely dressed, the prices are HIGH! Unfortunately the quality of the food for cost puts it on my don't-want-to-ever-go-again list. My husband and I came here with a group. The service was sloooowww! We ordered the fried calamari appetizer...Olive Garden's is better and they are an Italian food chain! My husband and I both had a Shrimp Trio platter. Neither of us enjoyed our meal and how hard could it be for a seafood place to make shrimp taste...er tasty? Our bill with gratuity came to just over $80. $80 for what we just ate? THAT was a big disappointment.

Meh. This place is like a Red Lobster that thinks it's fancy. I had the cedar plank salmon. It came out with two stalks of asparagus and a dinky pile of rice. The food was just boring. While the fish was served on cedar it was lacking that smoked taste I expected. I'll not be coming back to this restaurant.

Great menu choices! Everything was delicious. We ordered as appetizers, the crab cake, stuffed mushrooms, and fried zucchini. The mushrooms and crab cakes were fantastic. The zucchini was a bit oily but still tasty. As my meal, I ordered the broiled seafood platter which included a stuffed shrimp, 4 scampi shrimp served on garlic toast, 4 grilled shrimp, a stuffed crab, pontchartrain fish with lump crab meat on top, a.side of steamed broccoli and rice pilaf. Everything on my plate was dee-lish! The platter was $25 or so and well worth it. We had 7 in our party and the check totaled $202 with alcoholic beverages included and a huge brownie dessert shared by the table. I truly enjoyed my meal as did everyone else in my party.

The appetizers were delicious. We ordered the calamari, crab cake (there was only one), and the seafood stuffed jalapeno poppers (absolutely wonderful and my favorite). I was full before we got to the salad which was good with the honey mustard balsamic dressing. I had the broiled seafood stuffed shrimp, Parmesan risotto, and loaded baked potato. The shrimp and risotto were ok. U can't really go wrong with a baked potato, but it was super yummy. The atmosphere was relaxing, the server was friendly and I would definitely go back again. It beats Red Lobster's....well except for the cheddar bay biscuits. :-)

Do not waste your time or money here. I was really hungry for some nice fish today. I ordered the crab cake stuffed fish with asparagus and crab orzo. The fish was CHEWY and the orzo was overcooked and just terrible. When I complained I was just told that it was fresh. The wait staff congregated at the end of the bar and several were mocking customers. I definitely WON'T be back.

Good stuffed jalapenos, decent drinks, and a good atmosphere. The booths are poorly shaped though.

My wife and two boys stopped in at Landry's for lunch recently. We ordered some popcorn shrimp as an appetizer for the boys and my wife and I each got a combination platter. The popcorn shrimp were okay, but its kind of tough to mess those up since, like crab claws, even most good restaurants get them pre-made. Our salads arrived right on time and were quite good. The house dressing is a honey mustard vinaigrette that is pretty well balanced for sweetness and tartness. At this point our hopes were high that we had found a solid seafood restaurant. Shortly thereafter though our entrees arrived and our hopes were shattered. All of the fried seafood was far too salty and the shrimp and scallops were WAY overcooked. The shrimp were chewy and tough, and the scallop had a very rubbery texture. I couldn't eat the scallops they were so bad, and something has to be pretty bad for me to not eat it. Somehow, the fish was cooked just about right, except that it was just a pinch on the undercooked side. If you're going to err one way or the other with fish, undercooked is not the correct direction. If the poor quality of the food wasn't enough, we got our bill and it carried a pretty heft price tag. For what we paid, if the food had been prepared just right, I probably wouldn't have any complaints. However, until this seafood restaurant learns how to prepare seafood, I can't say that its worth a visit.

Red fish was ok, seemed fresh. The reason for three stars is that the meal was supposed to come with a parmesan risotto, yet what was served was rice with some sort of alfredo sauce on the side..disappointing. this seems to be more of a fried/oyster seafood place than an actual fresh fish seafood place. my hotel is close, so i might stop in again to try the fried/oyster stuff, and if its good i might update to 4 star, heck maybe 5.

The waitress was great! She gets 5 stars for being a great company asset! However, the manager arguing with us about what we are tasting as rotten meat on the new Greek salad stating it was pepper corn???? Seriously? Oh and we still paid for the salad.... ........ The next day I received a message from Landry's Marketing who put through to the GM and was contacted. Very professional response and handling to a bad situation and poor judgement. It was very impressive and makes up for an error in judgement from the shift manager. We hope this is a learning experience for the shift manager as the food overall was great, except for possibly a small portion from our experience. It was something that was not meant by any means, compounded by a response that put us off. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and the new menu items. The spring rolls are amazing and the tuna tacos have a really nice kick! If you are reading the previous reviews and are on the fence, please give them a try and remember that not all reviews show both sides. We are very pleased with how the GM handled this situation.

First time here and I'm pleased. I started my night with the house salad which had a very tasty balsamic honey mustard dressing. For my meal I ordered the mixed trio (blackened) with vegetables and rice pilaf and everything was good. For dessert I enjoyed a serving of creme brulee.

Loved it! Service was great. My house salad, that I ordered with mixed greens, was delicious. My cooked appetizers and entrees arrived to my table still hot. My food was scrumptious. I absolutely love seafood. It's normally what I order at restaurants. This day I ordered seafood stuffed jalapeños and the catfish platter. Both were cooked exactly how I like it, PERFECTLY & FLAVORFUL.

I stopped by Landry's for lunch with a friend. We arrived about 1PM, and we were quickly whisked in and seated at a table. The waitstaff was particularly spirited and attentive. I ate fish tacos. They tasted good but not excellent. Each taco had a small piece of deep-fried fish with melted cheese on a tortilla shell. It was very expensive for what one gets. The side of thin onion rings was disappointing. I believe we had salads beforehand, which were okay. My friend had a good piece of fish and sides. Hers was also on the expensive side, but with a more generous portion. Afterwards, we had a slice of key-lime pie, which was quite good. One serving is enough for two people. With our two meals, a desert, ice tea, and tip, the bill was $42.89. Seems pricey for lunch. In sum, this restaurant doesn't distinguish itself and is somewhat expensive for lunch.

The atmosphere is a bit dated but comfortable. Service was excellent. The smoked salmon bruschetta starter was fabulous and our dinners of stuffed broiled shrimp and New Orleans barbecue shrimp were also very good. The wine list offers a nice selection at a variety of prices. In general, the prices are reasonable for what you get and there are a number of selections that won't break your budget.

Good food but way too expensive. Despite somewhat reasonable menu prices, my meal was up charged on everything from my salad to the side items. Total bill for one person was $70. Unbelievable!
