What a disappointment! I've been to the Jim N Nick's outside of Nashville several times, and it has always been good. This location was not. The pulled pork was actually just chopped, fatty, and tasteless. The barbecue sauce tasted more like ketchup. At least the baked beans were pretty good. Will not be stopping at this location again.

We were driving through and stopped in for lunch. The service was amazing, Elizabeth, our waitress was very sweet and knowledgeable. Every question we asked about the menu or recommendation she gave was immediate upon request and spot on. While we waited for the food we munched on the cheese biscuits. They were so yummy that we bought 2 packs for home! I had the open faced beef sandwich that was smothered in gravy. I had never eaten brisket like this before, but it was so good! My husband had the BBQ pork potato which was OK in his opinion. The meat was plain for his taste. He didn't like the regular BBQ sauce and likened it to watered down ketchup, but the habenero BBQ sauce he enjoyed. The sweet tea was perfect for us both. The meal was very filling. Overall it was a great experience, glad we stopped.

So I decided to eat here for dinner tonight on a whim. After giving some thought (and since I had gone to the 5 Points South location last week and had the Hamburger Dave), I ordered the Pig on a Bun with two trimmings- baked beans and mac & cheese. The macaroni and cheese was my favorite part of the meal, with the baked beans coming in a distant second. Of course the complimentary cheddar biscuits are yummy, but something had spilled on mine while cooking that was...kind of salty. Not sure what it was. Don't even want to think about it what it was. On to the main attraction- the meat. The sandwich was just...ok. Not sure if the bun is toasted but mine sure was extra crunchy on one side. The sauce is nothing to write mom about, and I can think of several other places where the meat is spilling out of the bun. Not at Jim-N-Nick's. It's just enough to fill the bun. Nothing more, nothing less. I would return- just because I love me some mac & cheese. Next time I'll try the chicken fingers. Maybe I'll score a win with those.

This place was pretty good, their cheese muffins are fantastic, their onion rings were great, and my husband and I easily shared a bbq plate. Their coleslaw and fries were also nice. We left naught a crumb. I would definitely be interested in going back to try other things.

Went out for a family dinner one evening. We decided on BBQ near my wives parents home. The wait wasn't too long considering it was Friday night. When we got to our table we were hungry and ready to eat. Had to wait a few minutes, before our waitress came over. After she did she brought drinks and cheese muffins right away. After ordering we waited too long for our meal. When it did finally arrive our food was luke warm and my ribs were dry. The manager came to check on us, and we informed him of our issues. He brought me a new plate of ribs, and for the family hot and crispy onion rings, beans, and this time we tryed the potatoe salad. Second time around meal was great. We also enjoyed coconut and chocolate pie for dessert. Compliments of the house. Would have been 5 stars had things been right the first time. Overall we left happy, and well fed. Our waitress did her best and we'll give this place another try soon.

Jim N Nicks is an impressive company. They sponsor farmer's markets, I see them on college game day, and everything is just flat out good. I've been eating at different locations for at least 15 years and never had a bad meal. Also the drive through is on point. It's a little cheaper than eating in, you get a free drink and you don't tip. I don't know know why anyone would go through a normal fast food drive through if you can go here. They are so dang polished. I almost don't like them for it

I no longer drive to Texas to order amazing beef brisket! Jim N Nicks always delivers. Just check out the packed parking lot when you are on HWY 11 in Trussville. The service is always great, the beer is cold, and the BBQ is hard to beat. The act of smoking animal flesh over wood is primitive; Jim N Nicks speaks to my inner subconscious brain with an experience I can't replicate. Take great BBQ, remove the "Deliverance" aspect, find yourself at Jim N Nicks. Where they won't make you squeal like a pig. (But you will want to anyway) After 6 trips here, I have upgraded Jim'N Nick's to 5 stars.

I have to say the service was super good and the food I could eat was great my complaint is simply an allergy alert should be posted and listed in the menu. I'm severely allergic to the spice Cayenne pepper. This is a synopsis of the spice and names of the spice. http://Http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cayenne_pepper The allergic reaction I have is severe to cayenne. The waiter just happened to mention when we ask him if the potato salad was spivey that he thought it had cayenne in it so he went to ask the chef and yes it had cayenne in it. On another visit I ordered Brunswick stew thinking I had never had cayenne in any Brunswick stew and after taking one bite and tasting a familiar taste I asked was there cayenne and told yes there was cayenne in the stew. So after speaking with the chef and hearing how many dishes did in fact have cayenne we no longer eat at this Resturant due to one thing the number of dishes that have cayenne. Everyone raves about the great service along with us and our friends love the food as did my husband but the danger is too great to me to chance cross contamination from this spice. I would ask again please post a sign warning of cayenne and add a note to the menu it could save a life. Food allergies can kill.

Jim n nick's is one of my favorite places to go for lunch in Trussville. Their cheese biscuits are incredible, and so is their service! I try something different most of the time, but lately I've been hooked on their smoked chicken quesadilla. It has smoked chicken, cheese, onion, mushrooms, and bell pepper. Get it with a side of their white sauce and it's perfect! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

This place is the best! Everything was great, but the Mac n' Cheese and cheesy biscuits were outstanding. The baby back ribs were good, probably above average.

Recently went for lunch, the server was great. However, the food was cold. It was like if we were served scraps. Had four different meats, there were bones in the chicken. The pork was very dry. Only the brisket tasted good. I'm done with this restaurant.

We have been going to Jim n Nicks for years and haven't ever been disappointed! We have tried numerous things and have loved them all. The cheese biscuits are the best! (I do miss the honey butter they used to bring out with them, but they are still really good.) My favorites are the pig in the potato patch (huge baked potato with barbeque on top) and the pork sandwich. My husband's favorite is the brisket. It is usually pretty quick and the service helpful and friendly. It is always crowded though, so just be prepared for that.

Excellent bar-b-que! Angeline had the kids shrimp, no tails with fries. The shrimp was a little soggy and the manager took care us. Mom had the bbq nachos with smoked brisket, outside meat and says it was excellent. Spencer had pulled pork sandwich and made a happy plate! I had the brisket sandwich and added the tasty habanero now sauce. Since it is pi day, we had chocolate pie! All good food, great service. Will come again!

Great food and our server Joseph was excellent. Can't remember ever having such moist and tender brisket and the pulled pork was great too!

So yummy! Their cheese muffins are amazing! I get the pulled chicken sandwich with white sauce with two sides of mac and cheese. Their mac and cheese is some of the best around. BBQ nachos and onion rings are good, too. The only con is that it is always busy, but you usually don't have to wait long on a table. They also have a drive thru which is super convenient.

This place is simply delicious! I've been visiting this restaurant for years in locations all over Alabama. Those cheese muffins are so sweet & delicious! I love the beef brisket smothered in barbecue sauce! The potato salad includes the potato skin which is amazing & the macaroni is so delicious & creamy. I'll be back again & again!

I'd usually go to Dreamland when in Birmingham for bar-b-q & Cajun Steamer if in Trussville but I was meeting friends that wanted to go here. The service was ok & the pulled pork disappointing. Not bad but there are far better places close by!

Excellent, efficient and just the right size portions. The habanero BBQ sauce on the pulled pork is perfect! Definite goto place for excellent BBQ!

Swung by late to get some food after a long flight. They have a drive thru but I headed in instead. Got a combo of pulled pork and brisket. Dug both. Added some fries (too salty and rubbery for take out) and the beans. Sauce was good, not to sweet or vinegar based. Nice solid sauce. Next time I'm going to stay and dine in as my food was super hot to start with. Which I get being BBQ.

I've had Jim N Nicks plenty--BBQ is just OK to me, nothing special. Cheese biscuits are amazing. Taco Tuesdays are awesome. But at this location I tried something I hadn't really noticed on the menu before--the pimento cheeseburger. It. was. INCREDIBLE. Not sure if all locations have this on the menu, but if they do you must order. I'm very full right now as I type this, but my mouth is watering.

While this location of Jim n Nick's may not be quite up to the caliber of their original locations, it's still damn good 'que, and the sides here are great... But for me, coming home to B'ham from California just isn't the same without this stuff It may be pricey compared to other places around these here parts, but, well... don't even get me started on how bad most of the BBQ is in CA. As I've said before, out here on the west coast they mostly know grilling, not real BBQ I'll be back to Jim n Nick's the next time I'm in town for my BBQ fix

Love the cheese biscuits and the pork potato! In fact, I can't get past it to try anything else. Their pulled bbq is really wonderful. My husband loves the pimento cheese hamburger and we both love the sweet tea! Also, the service is fantastic and the wait staff is very attentive. Definitely a must for anyone traveling through Trussville, Al.

Had lunch here yesterday. I the ribs were good, but the meat did not fall off the boan and that's how I like mine. I did eat all my ribs. Also had the brisket. Loved that. Juicy and good tasting. The sauce on the table was mouthwatering. I will be back to this place. Very good place for my gluten free allergy. I could not finish all the food on my plate, but no ribs left

Great BBQ! Tons of food! One of the best baked beans I've ever had! Decent sauce and good beers. Can't ask for much more!

The ribs were fantastic! Perfectly smoked without being overcooked! The onion rings appetizer was fanatic as well. I live in Chattanooga, but I'd drive to Birmingham for this place!

the pork was not that tender & it was covered in bbq sauce....I like to taste the meat. chicken tenders, cream collards and beers were awesome!

I've eaten food from this location more times than I can count because my employer frequently caters from them. The cheese muffins: You don't expect it when you see them but they are very sweet and there's not much of a cheese taste. They are quite good though. The BBQ: Hit or miss. Sometimes it's great. Other times the meat is full of fat and dry shards. The sauce is tomato and vinegar based and is runny, not thick, but it's very tasty. Other: The BBQ baked potato is very good, especially if you get the brisket. The best thing about the place is the potato salad. The only person who could make it better was my mother. This stuff is the bomb. The baked beans are good as well. If you are thinking about going to this location for lunch, get there by 11:30 or you won't be able to find parking or get a table. It's a bit pricey, but it's pretty good BBQ!

What has happened to this place? I haven't been here for a few months and boy has it find downhill. The service was terrible tonight. Soooo Slow and they got at least one time wrong on our order. The cheese biscuits we all love so well were cold. One of our party ordered onion rings and had to ask three servers for ketchup! The BBQ sauces used to come in four varieties, now it's only two. The beers on tap have been reduced and the wine list is a paltry 4 types. Tried both the Cabernet and the Merlot. Both were basically undrinkable. No wine for me here again ever. They used to at least have a bottle or two of semi decent wine. I am so sorry to see this place go down hill. I would have told the manager of my disappointment but none was visible...that speaks volumes on the poor service. Happily the food was still good, even if it wasn't hot.

We stopped by here for lunch and it was moderately busy. We were in a hurry as we had some place we needed to be, but we figured we'd have time to get in and out of here. After we put in our order, they brought us the cheese muffins. Normally I like the cheese muffins, but today these seemed a little dry. There isn't much of a cheese taste either. I ordered the pulled pork plate with some veggies and the fruit (trying to at least be a little healthy). Right before our meal came, the server came by and told me that they didn't have the usual fruit assortment, that all I was getting was watermelon. I was a little disappointed for a second until she told me that she'd bring me another side item for free. That was a good recovery, or otherwise they might have lost another star. My BBQ was okay... again, a little dry and not very hot. The sauce was very watery and it made up for the meat being dry, a little bit. The side items were good and the watermelon was delicious. It was a lot of food and I definitely couldn't finish it all, especially with the extra side (cinnamon apples). I've eaten at a Jim and Nick's before, so I was a little disappointed in this one... it wasn't the service... our server was good... but the food left a little to be desired. It wasn't *bad*, but it wasn't *great* either. I don't know if I'd be in a big hurry to go back... but I wouldn't avoid it either. Maybe I'll give this place a second chance and update my review....

Don't think there is much I can say more telling than this: It's the most consistent restaurant I've ever frequented. I've eaten here more times than I care to admit and I honestly can't recall the last time I didn't walk out and express my undying love for the place. The food is always freshly made. Service is great. It is ALWAYS busy but there's a reason for it. Even tho it's busy- there doesn't tend to be too long of a wait. A couple of pointers for newcomers. 1. Cheese muffins are bottomless- tell your waitress up front you want them and to keep them coming. Always ask for the honey butter. You can't go wrong there. 2. All BBQ is great. It's always done just right. I never find fat in my pork. 3. I think their most remarkable meat is their smoked sausage. 4. The portion difference in potatoes and salads are significant. Go for the larger size for just a couple dollars more and you'll have leftovers. 5. Their blue cheese dressing is great (my typical choice for salads) but their honeymustard is out of this world. 6. Anything you can get with Bacon- do it. Their bacon (both strips and on a salad are top-notch) 7. They cook chicken breasts as well as anyone I know. Try the club sometime. It will be good and juicy. 8. The french fries are the best in Birmingham. Better than five guys. etc. 9. Nachos are awesome. 10. The Jalepenos are fresh (as opposed to the normal pickled). Only go for them if you're really ready for a kick.

Knew we would love it when the basket of cheddar biscuits/ muffins arrived! The pimento cheese was amazing as was the butter bean hummus. Think we tried a little of everything. The pulled pork and brisket were popular with our crowd. The baked beans were a 5 star item. The greens were awesome. I did not try the bacon jam but my companions did and liked it. The only things that did not wow us were surprisingly the potato salad and cole slaw they were just "meh" . This was a great find as we make the drive up through Birmingham pretty regularly. Will certainly be back.

Meh. This seems to be a popular place but the flavor on their pulled pork BBQ wasn't all that good. I'm a pilot and my copilot and I had just recently visited an authentic BBQ joint in Memphis. There was no comparison. There has got to be better BBQ elsewhere in this city.

Would have given fifth star if service was better. Food was great chesse biscuits a must! Lemonade a little acidy so wouldn't order if heartburn is an issue.

Four old guys from Chicago, ranging ages from 39 to 50, head down to Birmingham for a four-day weekend of golf. One evening, after a day of getting brutally beat down by the golf course, the hungry men decide that the sweet flavors of BBQ were in order. "Thank goodness for GPS, Yelp and Google," says the techie of the group who then leads the poor souls directly to Jim'n Nick's. They arrive around 8:30 PM to find people everywhere. Oh oh, will there be a long wait? They walk in, eye 4 seats at the bar and saddle up. Their mouths all of a sudden parched in desperate need of Alabamian beer and succulent BBQ. "Bring us the Pitmaster's Plate with baby backs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken, cole slaw, mac'n cheese and baked beans!" they all say. As they wait, they enjoy friendly repartee with the waitress/bartender. What a friendly soul she was - explaining the various varieties of the local brews. The food comes and 8 eyes open wide - even the Asian's eyes (me). "Y'all enjoying the food?" asks our friendly server. If Glee aired an old man episode, they would've loved their chorus of Yeehaw, Heehaw and YouBetcha. With full tummies and satisfied palates, the four drive off into the Birmingham night in their minivan to the Marriott corral.

Always busy and for good reason. The place is always well-kept & clean, and the food is always prepared extremely well. Emily (cute brunette, dark-framed glasses) is a wonderful server, but most there are. You'll spend a little more than fast-food prices, but you won't walk out hungry or dissatisfied.

    (5)
  • Chad H.

The food and inside service is very good if you get BBQ. The burgers can be questionable. The onion rings and salads are the best. They are always busy so that should tell you something and a little pricey based on portion.. Now, the drive thru staff can be hit and miss based on who you get.. So, you may get an attitude with the BBQ ..

Very good food... I love the ribs..." Jim n nicks "in the Birmingham Ala area is a must eatery.... The one is in the 5 points area....yes"the best of the best...The others in others states,Atl,Ga ... Take a pass...

Overpriced and mediocre BBQ. There is better BBQ in the Birmingham area at a lower price. On the positive side the decor is very nice.

The cheese muffins are divine. The cocktail list was old-school awesomeness. Service was attentive and prompt. The Carolina-style pulled pork was divine, and the coleslaw was so fresh it was still moving. The Habanero sauce lived up to its name, and portions were enerous. I am looking forward to my next visit. The only disappointment was the ribs, which were dry hard and over smoked. Perhaps it was an off day on the rib pit. I would not hesitate to visit again.

Great service and friendly atmosphere. Our waitress was attentive and patient. Ordered the 1/2 lb spare ribs cut up like rib tips. They were a bit tough. The manager allowed us to return and brought out another order, which were better. Loved the cheddar muffins. When muffin basket is empty they ask if you want more. I was going to try the banana pudding but we were too full to order dessert. Can't wait to return when in the area again.

Was here with a large group of friends and family. Even though our numbers kept growing, the staff was quick to accommodate with minimal wait. Server took drink orders almost immediately upon getting seated. Entrée order taken promptly. Only one order had a minor error and was quickly rectified. The reason most keep coming back are the complimentary cheese biscuits, even better when hot and fresh from the oven. I shared the 2 meat combo (classic pork and beef brisket) with Baked Beans and Macaroni and Cheese with my daughter. My first time trying their brisket. It was good not great, will likely stick with other favorites next time. Classic pork did not disappoint from previous experiences. Baked beans include meat and BBQ sauce, daughter thought it was a little spicy. Macaroni was very creamy with generous amount of cheese on top. My wife had her usual Pig in the Garden salad with smoked chicken instead of pork. Server recommended BBQ Ranch when she initially requested ranch dressing. Will probably be her new standard order. Although we did not have any this time, the pies are excellent. My favorite is coconut followed closely by lemon. Wife and daughter really like chocolate. Really don't think you can go wrong whichever you choose. My son claimed the remaining cheese biscuits to take home for breakfast.

Great prompt service especially for a Friday at 6 pm with a full restaurant. I had the pick two with pulled pork and beef brisket. Veggie of the day was sweet potato casserole, which was phenomenal! Mac n cheese was great as well.
