Decent beer selection. Was disappointed with some of the ratios. The Caprese salad had a delicious pesto sauce in stead of fresh basil. It was an interesting twist. My sister enjoyed her house salad, which was brought out a bit later than my salad, although they were ordered at the same time. Unfortunately, the ratio of fresh mozzarella to tomato was off. A huge chuck on mozzarella with a tomato cut in quarters. Could've used more tomato. The pizza was tasty, with a crisp crust, but suffered the same malady as the Caprese. We ordered the traditional margherita, with fresh mozzarella and basil. One or two of the pieces has very little mozzarella and there was a tiny sprinkling of sliced basil. Area 41 could be a 4 star spot, if they worked out their ratios and had more balanced dishes.

First time to visit area 41. We have heard mixed reviews from people so we were in the area and decided to try it. Why not? Right? The cheese garlic bread appetizer was great. Nice and hot and it was just the right amount. But the sauce was a little lacking....more to come. Our pizza was a cheese pizza and it was soggy with grease. We had to dab it with our napkins so it wouldn't run everywhere. The sauce was.....well not very tasty. It really didn't have a taste at all. The grease made the pizza soggy and limp. Overall the pizza wasn't that good. As far as atmosphere and beer selection, that was great. We sat outside and enjoyed the nice evening with a few nice drafts..... But the pizza.....oh we've better. Not worth a special trip, IMO.

Positives: Pizza is really good. Not the best in town, but way better than any of the chains. Negatives: the a/c is too cold inside and the outside seating is uncomfortable. The service is slow and not at all knowledgeable. "Do you have any IPA on tap?" "Yes, all of our beers are IPA's". I knew that didn't sound right and it wasn't. So, wrong beer delivered and it was impossible to explain to where she could understand that just because it was a draft beer didn't make it an IPA. Hey, how about printing out a beer menu? Nah, to simple. No onions on the salad means you get onions, and when you send it back, they scrape most of them off just around the corner from your table. Solution: Sit at the bar and point to the beer you want. Learn to like onions. Wear long sleeves and pants. Enjoy some dang good pizza!

After reading some of the reviews about 41 I feel the need to sort of answer some of the critiques by some of the lower starred reviews. Area 41 is in a unique location where people from multiple housing communities can access it via Rt 41. Many people do not want to deal with 280 because of traffic and all the lights so Area 41 becomes a place that is somewhat of a sanctuary. As such, the place tends to get completely swamped on weekend evenings. There are only about 50 or so seats in the entire place so yes, you can be told that you might have to wait a bit for a table. But head to The Summit to Cheesecake Factory, Flip, PF Chang's and see what your wait is there. The staff is doing the best they can, being that 41 is off the beaten path, it is difficult for them to recruit experienced hosts/hostesses as well so please be patient. A last point, if you have kids it's usually better to take them earlier in the evenings to eat, similarly if you would like a quieter dinner then I would suggest going after 8 pm on weekend nights. On to the food, if you want a mom and pop's feeling atmosphere then 41 is where you want to be. Patrick cares deeply about his customers and their thoughts on the food, staff, and the restaurant itself. He has worked hard over the years to try and perfect the dining experience at 41 to the best of his abilities and what he has to work with. Everything that can be made in house, is, this includes most of the bread, the pizza, dough, the pizza sauce, and a bunch of other things. My favorite things would have to be the anitpasta plate and the cheese bread. The Meteor sandwich along with the chopped salad. Pizza wise I have to go with the Area 41 Special. The food is top notch and is miles better than anything that you will get at a chain restaurant out on 280. If you like to sample beers then 41 is your place, they just installed a 12 tap system and will constantly be rotating beers that are unique and local. I hope that you will support this local business that makes great quality food, it does have it's flaws but just give it a chance and I think you will find that it is much better than the alternatives. Whenever I am in the area, I always get to 41 for a night of hanging out at the bar having some beers and food.

Not long ago, I received a little feedback about whether the 41 was still open since there weren't many current reviews out there! Well ... I have an update! My star rating hasn't changed in two years, but their menu has :-) I still LOVE the arugula salad with grilled chicken, but now I love the Antipasta plate ($11) and the fried mushrooms ($7.50) to start with. Lately I have been getting the Blonde Ambition Pizza (a small for $12.75 and it's enough to share with a friend!). Patrick makes some AMAZING Mushroom Soup - and if you check out FB and see that it's on the menu - RUN THERE!! I like his Tomato Basil too! And you can get a cup of the soup with a house or Caesar salad for $7.50. It's A MEAL DEAL, for sure! The Simple Spaghetti is still on the menu and it's still as amazing as it was when the Four One opened and quite a steal at $11. And ... Javiar's Shrimp Diablo ($13.25) is one of the best things on the menu. Still one of my faves for a BURGER! It's big and always cooked to perfection (I like mine med to med/rare) and they are super attentive to the fact that Mr SS9 doesn't want a pickle anywhere in sight. The fries are AMAZING - The best fries ever. (I might have had fries once with pizza ... maybe once. Don't judge!) Granted, if you are there on a Thursday or Friday night, IT WILL BE BUSY. Unfortunately, this is a small town restaurant, and it's hard to hire a ton of people just to work one night a week. Take your time, relax, have a beer or two and chill.

Set your GPS to Birmingham because it won't pick up the Mt. Laurel address. The location seems like it's in the middle of nowhere since after you turn off of Hwy 280, you drive into the middle of a pleasant nowhere for 3-4 miles. So don't worry, you're not lost. Parking looks limited but there always seems to an open spot. The atmosphere is easily five stars. This is probably the nicest pizza restaurant decor I've seen. Even though the interior is so cramped, it seems to have the right amount of intimacy. The waiters were friendly, polite, and had me in and out the door in no time. The sides of marinara sauce here were good. The 3-star rating was as a result of the pizza flavors I chose. The blonde ambition is white pizza with roasted garlic herbed ricotta mozzarella and fresh basil. It looks like a very plain cheese pizza and tastes like a plain cheese pizza but remarkably fresh. I almost thought they forgot the condiments. The sacile is the selling point with everything you'd find on a margherita pizza but topped with salami, over easy egg with crushed red pepper and argula. It was delicious! However, the pizza overall is was thin, floppy, and soggy to the extent that I couldn't lift the actual pizza itself without everything falling off and creating a huge mess. I felt like a little toddler playing with food pieces on my baby table and that made eating aggravating. I'd still come back solely based off the atmosphere and the beautiful outdoor seating. Every pizza I saw in this restaurant at each table was almost food art. However, I wish the pizza did a little better! Refrigerator Test: floppy but refreshingly tasty!

Worse pizza ever. Tried to fix it twice. Soggy Nasty. Went back twice and they double cooked it. Still soggy and nasty. When I tried to take it back the owner got cocky and said "well everyone else likes it" .... acted like a real butt head. Stared me down - . If you live in the neighborhood it's the best you got. It does not compare to the worse pizza I've had. It's just not good....

I apologize up front that I have done a bit of editorializing in this review, but not much. We have been here half a dozen times and have never had a bad experience. We usually get pizza. The crust is really good and all the pizza ingredients seem fresh. The pasta is a solid bet, also. We have always had very good service, but we never go during busy times and certainly not on weekends. This place has a good selection of beer on draft, but the prices are high. Now, they are no higher than other places, but how did we get to the point of accepting $8.00 a glass beer? Area 41 also has a full bar and wine if you you do not care for beer. While this place is a tad small, the clientele makes the slight accommodations fine and it is usually pretty quiet. I have never been to Area 41, at least, when a stentorian patron or rude cell phone conversation sharer was present. You do not get the uncouth crowd here. Sales tax is only 5% so this is another restaurant to choose to protest the ridiculous 10% Birmingham sales tax.

Apparently we caught them on a bad day..compared to the other reviews. There wasn't but one table with customers outside, however none of the other outdoor tables were bussed, and they were not busy. Flies and yellow jackets (or hornets) were having a field day. Caprese and meatball sub was ok, not great. We went out of our way to go to Area 41 based on word of mouth...I probably won't go back.

We visited on the recommendation of a friend. Clean and relaxing atmosphere on a Saturday around 5. Two football games were on but not so loud that you couldn't have a conversation. Pizzas were really good but not great. Prices were in line with the location. Staff was attentive and friendly. Good family dining, date night, take out, and delivery. Fully stocked bar and some fun drinks on the menu.

I've been here once and wasn't overly impressed. It's a nice place with ok food, just nothing special. I've had better pizza at several places in Birmingham. It's more hype than anything. Not bad, just forgettable.

This place was recommended to us by a local. The little development that it is nestled into is cute and quaint. The drive to get there is beautifully lined with endless trees and beautiful homes. We ordered the Greek pizza and the Jackson pizza - pepperoni, onion and peppers. Both were very tasty, the crust is thin but not too thin and just enough chewy.

The AMAZING food outweighs the HORRIBLE service! I get the food to go so I don't have to deal with the bad table side manners of the servers, but still get to enjoy their terrific food.

Had a late dinner here Saturday night. The couple we brought with us was wondering if we really were going to a restaurant after driving many miles in the dark down highway 41, but we assured them there was food at the end of this journey. We wanted to try the Irish Pub but they had some very loud music playing, very few customers, and they stop serving food at 9pm (on a Saturday?). So we opted for Area 41. They were still very crowded so we ended up at a table smack in the middle of the restaurant (which my husband hates). It is a family-style restaurant. It is not a great place to go if you want privacy. It took a LONG time for someone to acknowledge our table. I had to ask the host for some assistance. It did not start well. Once our waitress made it over, she was very nice. Our food did not take too long. We ordered the baked feta and some garlic cheese bread for appetizers. Loved the garlic cheese bread and their dipping sauce. The baked feta was good, but I have had better. It was feta and pizza sauce combined with very crunchy crostini-style bread. We ordered beer for the guys and wine for the girls plus 2 small pizzas. One, Action Jackson - pepperoni, Italian sausage, onions and the other, 41 special- Italian sausage, sliced tomatoes, roasted garlic, goat cheese. Both were excellent, tasted fresh, and were piping hot! Would give this place another go!

Great food, great service. I live downtown Birmingham and I make the drive. I always have fun. Great beer selection. If you are cyclist, start from there and do the Vandiver 41 and 43 loop and you have a 30 mile ride and a place to replace those calories you have burned.

I will keep it short; the food is good. The prices might be a little high (family of 5, $65ish tab), the service (as noted in other reviews) sucks.

Have been here a few times now and waited to write review. My original review had this as a 4 star. After a year, I am moving to 5.The pizza is awesome as are the salads they offer. The full menu is really good. Try the BLT..... Yes, a BLT at a pizza place. Really glad we found this place and will continue to go back.

We LOVE Area 41 pizza. We consider it our favorite followed by Davenports and Da vinci's in Homewood. Area 41 has an excellent pizza with the perfect amount of homemade sauce. The salad is very well presented and we love the fact that they toss the salad in dressing before serving to you. One of the things we enjoy is being able to go when we have our pooch with us and eat outside. There is a cute little irish pub two doors down. It is well worth the drive every time we go! A great selection of domestic and imported beer . You're missing out if you have not tried this restaurant!

As other reviewers have stated, the pizza is good, but what if you don't want pasta or pizza. I love the burgers. But here is a tip that makes the difference, get the burger on the focaccia bread, yum. They have great margaritas and they frequently run drink and dinner specials. We love eating outside so we can bring our dog.

I have to go back on my 5 star rating. 20 mos. ago when we moved here this place was a breath of fresh air in the Greystone/280 food scene. Unfortunately the last two times I've gone my experience has left something to be desired. The service has just been meh. Drink orders taken late, food takes too long, no one comes ans asks you if you have everything you need, this kind of stuff. Tonight was pretty disappointing so it's time to bring the rating from 5 to 3 stars. I ordered a burger, the waitress never asked how I wanted it cooked. I realized this shortly after she left our table and I tried to get her attention. Finally I just got up and went to her at the bar. I told her I wanted my burger cooked medium rare. She said she thought it was too late but she would try. Shortly after the burger came (served form a different server). No offer for ketchup or mustard and he literally dropped the burger and left. Our waitress eventually brought my husbands meal and i told her that my salad was prepared wrong and that I needed ketchup. She then told me that they don't cook burgers any less than medium/medium well. I told her that I won't be ordering a burger from them again then because I don't eat burgers like that. She asked if I wanted the burger and I told her I had lost my appetite and I would just eat the side salad (which had to be sent back anyway). She offered to replace it and I told her I just wasn't hungry anymore and that I didn't want it or anything else on the menu. When our check came out we fully expected the burger would not be on it. Well as I'm sure you can guess, it was on the check. We didn't fight with her, it was near closing and just not worth the scene. The meal had been such a disappointment with one thing after another. My husbands pizza was good, per the usual for pizza. Just don't order a burger if you actually like your burger cooked a certain way. I wouldn't expect a place like this to have burgers cooked to order. Perhaps this is my fault, when you go to a pizza place, order pizza or substantially lower your expectations. If tonight had been my only experience I would have given a one star. We won't be going back for a while.

Went on a Saturday night and got in without any problem. Cozy atmosphere with some nice decor (not often do you find trilobite/starfish art at a pizza joint... kudos). The cheesy garlic bread and pizza was good and they had a nice assortment of beers. Service could have been a bit friendlier but overall a good experience. Would definitely go back if in the neighborhood.

This place is quite a drive up Highway 280 in Mt. Laurel, but it's totally worth it. The crust is perfect - hand-tossed and great consistency. Last time I was there I had a great salad, pizza, and the chocolate lava dessert. Everything was wonderful! It's also one of the only places in Birmingham that I've seen Flying Dog Pale Ale on draft. Me likey!

I came a here a few years ago and loved the food but had the worst service EVER. The server was so rude I never wanted to go back. Good thing Brian (who had never been and lives very close) insisted on trying it. I had an amazing time with great food and service! The Caprese salad, as always was delicious and fresh! So yummy. They also have an arugula salad and portabella panini I need to go back and try. The last time we ordered the Blonde Ambition- white pizza with roasted garlic, ricotta cheese fresh herbs and mozzarella and it was SO good. I LOVE the thin crust and tasty cheeses. We also ordered a pitcher if Titan beer that was so yummy. They have an excellent selection of (high-gravity, Belgium, IPA's) beer on draft and bottles. I usually drink wine but they have really great beer and very good prices too. It is in the cute little town of Mt. Laurel and so worth the drive if you do not live around here.

I always enjoy eating here. The pasta is always good and pizza is always a hit. In fact, not having to "drive over the hill/mountain" makes this a five star experience. I'm now changing my initial 4 star rating to 5....just for the excellent location!
