I really love their slaw & hush puppies!!! I could just eat that!! I mainly do and get my food to go. Last time we went I had wanted to order different! Got the shrimp in grits!! I must say, OMG! Awesome!!! They were so good. We had the greatest waiter this time too! Was awesome to us an my three kids! Of course it's pricey! Most seafood is though! Can't give it 5 stars cause I wasn't that pleased with the kids meals. Size or price!

Awesome service. We were greeted with friendly smiles and yummy hush puppies upon entry. The food was great, if slightly pricey, but well worth a stop, particularly if traveling (like I was), and want something different than fast food, cracker barrel or Applebee's (yuck). Cole, our server, is super cute, too!

I want to start off by saying the staff was good to a degree. What i mean is she lead us to a table it had sticky things on it my husband asked when i changed tables and told him where the young lady could hear me that the table was sticky. Then the young lady brought out hush puppies and slaw. The slaw was mayo out and missing the norm of carrots but the hush puppies were better at captain ds. I was so in the mood for gumbo. So i ordered a cup. I ended up with a mama bear size. Which is a bowl the size soup comes in at olive garden. It had 3 bits of meat chopped full of celery and okra a good portion of onions and rice. Flavor was good but overall lacking. My hubby doesn't eat seafood but was trying to make me happy so he only had a beer. I also found the table we switched to sticky. We will not be back. I was hoping for a great seafood night ended up next door at Applebee'.

Well....first of all, they dont bring the slaw anymore, just hush puppies and cheese sauce. First words from server were..."we are busy and only have 2 servers, so be prepared for slow service". This was Sunday afternoon at 4 pm...Not exactly a rush time. Ordered an appetizer.(fried pickles), which we never got. Food came after about half an hour, was nothing special and portions were very small. Been visiting Ezells for years, but don't think I will be going back any time soon.

Oh great, the employees sing. You automatically lose a star if the employees sing. The fish is pretty good. One piece appeared to be cooked to order, the other two were cool and not crispy. Other diners at the table said their order appeared to be a mix of freshly cooked and "more mature" fish. The breading is a nice cornmeal batter that wasn't too salty. The filets were reasonable in size and worth eating again. The gumbo bloody sucks. It's a light soup with an amateurish roux with far too much file. Seriously, it's horrid with no taste. The waitress assured me that it had a kick. The only kick was the realization that what I regularly make at home is infinitely better than theirs. It's a small bowl and after adding about teaspoon of black pepper and a gratuitous amount of pepper sauce, the only thing I could taste was the file. ECK! The greens were overly sweet, cooked to death and I swear they had cinnamon in them. The fried green tomatoes were served with ranch dressing. WTH? High points are the friendly servers and the onion rings.

I've eaten here a handful of times. No really bad experiences at all, nothing exceptional to set it apart from similar places either. The hushpuppies and slaw brought to the table are both a big hit for all the fam. If you hang with the fried stuff you have a safe bet for a tasty meal!!

First place I stop when I visit my mom's coming from the airport. The hush puppies and slaw always reminds me of coming back home. I'm from the northeast now but always make a point to stop by.

I liked the hush puppies that are a compliment to me and my mother, but I didn't really like the taste of the coleslaw. I ordered the buffalo popcorn shrimp with the french fries. It was not the best shrimp, but pretty good. Mom had the buffalo butterfly shrimp with sweet potato fries. They were pretty good too. The prices of the food are reasonably good. The atmosphere for this restaurant on a Sunday night was generally decent. It's a fantastic restaurant, but I wish I could try something else to experience the whole menu.

Great food, great atmosphere, great service! Only complaint is that the catfish kinda tasted like old people, but everything else was fantastic!

I will admit that I am from the North and as such, my experience with southern food is quite limited. When my hosts offered to take me to Ezell's, I admit that I was excited to try some "real" Southern food. Almost immediately when I walked in, my shoes were sticking to the floor. And it wasn't just that the floor was sticky, it was that it left my shoes so tacky that wherever I walked, they stuck. (Should I mention that I went on a Sunday afternoon, when the restaurant was pretty dead? Mop your floors, people.) Some restaurants bring out bread, at Ezell's you get a basket of hushpuppies and a bowl of coleslaw. I can't lie, the hushpuppies were awesome. I ate way too many of them. The coleslaw was okay as coleslaw goes. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which seemed like a good southern dinner for this northern girl to try. After the first bite I knew that I would have a hard time eating a sufficient amount to not worry my hosts. The gravy (is there supposed to be gravy?) was incredibly salty and over-seasoned. The chunks of meat were super fatty and the vegetables (?) were soggy and gross. I got about a fourth of it down before I called it and said I was full. Our waiter was really nice and did a great job. My hosts enjoyed their food. If you love fried fish, you'll probably love Ezell's, I don't know. If you don't, stay away.

OK catfish house. Service was lousy. Hush puppies were some of the best I've ever had, Slaw was pretty good and greens were very good. Fried catfish was OK. I waited 5 minutes for someone to take my drink order. After the food arrived they checked on me once and then it was a mad dash to close up (it was 8:40pm). Everyone concentrated oncleaning up and ignored me. I stood at the cashiers counter for a few minutes before anyone noticed me. I've had better and probably won't be back.

Things I love: Hushpuppies and coleslaw are put on the table the moment you sit down (and both are fantastic, love the hushpuppies.) The waitresses are fantastic, friendly, and fun. The catfish is very good, not the best but very good. The sides, also, are very good. Portions are huge. Prices are very reasonable. We also had a couple of appetizers that were tasty and again, massive portions. Things I hate: The first appetizer I ordered, and one of the main reasons we choose to go to Ezell's this particular evening, was not available. Always ticks me off when a restaurant is out of something. If they are out of something, they should tell you as soon as you sit down, as they are handing you the menu, rather than wait until you order it, I guess hoping that you won't order that and you won't know they are out of anything. Just a pet peeve. I'll still go back to Ezell's, if you're looking for a fantastic fried food experience that you will deeply regret for the next 12 - 18 hours, this is your place!

Had a great experience at Ezell's this week. Each meal comes with unlimited cole slaw and hush puppies and these were the best hush puppies I've had although I should note I've only had them a few times. I have, however, tried chicken fingers all over the place and the "small" chicken fingers I had here were great, fresh and a big portion. They came with a side- I had cheese grits which were very good. The soda I ordered was gigantic. My boyfriend had the grilled Catfish Po'boy and says it was superb. The decor is cool and charming with antique railroad lights, fishing nets, taxidermy trophy heads and prints of wildlife. This place would be really hip if it were in NYC but it's a real deal Southern establishment. Service was friendly and quick. The bathroom was clean. I'm very glad we ate here and experienced this unique and tasty place rather than eating at one of the nearby fast food chains.

Great place to stop on our road trip. Loved the hush puppies and cole slaw. Needless to say, very good catfish. Better than other chains near by.

I liked it but the hushpuppies were so greasy they actually dripped grease. Never seen that before...had a bowl of gumbo that was tasty...not the best I ever had but tasty..place was packed and the staff was nice and attentive...

The only thing that kept me from giving a 5th star was the service. The food here was surprisingly good, starting with the hushpuppies. These are the most amazing hushpuppies I've ever eaten. Tender, creamy texture and delicious, I ate a whole basket full. Usually I'll pass on the hushpuppies at a seafood restaurant. Not here! I had the catfish fillets and they were tasty and cooked to perfection. The fried okra was crispy and tasty. I even enjoyed the cole slaw, very fresh and not too sweet. I'm not much of a slaw eater, so this was a big deal for me to eat it. I only tried it because it looked so fresh. Too bad the service crew was so young and inexperienced. The food came out quick enough, but it took what seemed like forever to get my check. That said, the food will bring me back.

When I travel for work I like to try some of the off the wall places - Ezell's hit that requirement on the head! 3.5 rating = walk, don't run, if you're in the general area, but don't make a special trip. I had the fried catfish and crab claw combo with fried okra and huspuppies. Very good catfish - I'd get it again, for sure. The crab claws were extremely small and dry. I didn't know which sauce to dip them in - tartar, cocktail or honey mustard - so I ate them plain. Okra tasted like, well, like fried okra. Delicious hushpuppies, with little pieces of corn studded throughout. My companions got the fried oysters (oooh, I definitely recommend this one - large, tender, lightly battered) and fried jumbo shrimp (also large and very lightly battered).

Love that you get hush puppies and slaw right off the bat. Service was nice and reasonably timely. The catfish was fantastic!

Very disappointing the shrimp was not butterfly and wife got chicken fingers more like frozen from a grocery store.the manager no where around to ask why items were changed up.I been there several times but will not be going back.

Excellent fry joint. Might have other food there but I went for the catfish and was not disappointed. And order your catfish on the bone. Go ahead, fight your food for a better flavor.

Pros: Best hush puppies I've ever eaten and a never ending supply of tarter sauce. Good clean atmosphere with friendly staff. Best thing there is the catfish and cheese grits. Cons: Most things are a little bland, but pretty. Most other items are hit and miss. Conclusion: Not worth the $40 we spent, but still worth a shot if you need your fish fix. Update 02/2012. We have returned since this initial visit. Food quality is definately starting to fall. Breaded catfish is very chewy. The place was almost empty when we went in and still had to wait over 10 minutes to find the waitress to get our check. We're taking our original review down a star. Sorry guys, you deserve it.

Terribly disappointing! Great atmosphere below average food. What a dump!
