Kudos to the management and staff of Shakey's in Auburn! Last evening we arrived at 10;30 pm to find that the restaurant was closed! But as I turned to leave a young gal approached the door! After explaining that I had just spent the previous 5 hours in the hospital ER with my husband she welcomed me in and said that she hadn't yet turned off the ovens and would be happy to take our order!! In less than 15 minutes we took the pizza back to our hotel! Wow!!!! SUPERB service and the ABSOLUTE BEST pizza we had EVER consumed!!!!! THANKS to the staff for brightening our day!!!!

Being from Southern California, Shakey's was a staple growing up 20 years ago. Unfortunately, the quality died and they were surpassed by many other chains, which left many of these locations to go out of business. Ironically, this is the first location I've visited since the 80s. And, it's a lot like what I remember back in the day. More interesting is this is the only Shakey's west of the Rockies. How it ended up so close to Auburn, I have no idea. Why come to this Shakey's? Good question. I think the best answer would be if you have a group of kids who are hungry. It's at par with Mellow Mushroom in downtown Auburn, but also has a salad bar and better range of flat screens to watch sporting events. The pizza is average, at best, and the salad bar is a grade down from Ruby Tuesdays, yet this laid back pizza joint serves large parties well who want to sprawl out and relax while eating pizza. Keep in mind, this isn't a sit down and be served place, rather a walk up to the counter, order and sit at a table and wait for your pizza. Come expecting a good time and average pizza and you'll be content.

I went here with a few other people for dinner and I had spaghetti. It was neat that they made it into a design of a person, although it was a bit watery. Portion size was nice. I also like that they had a game room. We had a good time! I would like to come during their lunch buffet and see how that is.

This pizza parlor is probably the cleanest buffet with the most appealing presentation. It sets the standard that a pizza buffet should have such a nice presentation especially if you frequent other pizza buffets. I didn't order from the buffet but I settled for the mega-slice that cost more than $5. Even if it only costs slightly less than the buffet, you're eating the amount you pay for (so you neither lose nor save unless you know you can eat an entire thing on your own). The best part of my slice was how fresh, hot, and cheesy it was. It was too much for one Asian girl to handle. Good thing I now have dinner also. The other buffet items are not good. The dessert pie was awful and the crust was very gummy and rubbery. I didn't enjoy that part but at least they got their pizza items right.

I eat here about 3 times a month at their bunch lunch, they usually have about 6 kinds of pizza out with baked and fried chicken and some other items. The pizza is always good and so is the salad bar and chicken. Other then the dark hair manager (who seems like a really nice guy), the rest of the crew is just ok. But it's always clean and the food is good.

Lousy food that has been sitting under heat lamps for ages. This is not an impression based on a single visit. This place is consistently bad. In a town full of pizza & chicken places, this place has the absolute worst of each.

$8.99 for a buffet that is comparable to Ci-Ci's pizza for lunch? No thanks. Next time put out some fresh pizzas on the buffet, if there is a next time.

Can't say how the food is. We never got any service. Not a single employee came to us. A couple employees did look at us but never acknowledged us. After about 10 minutes we walked out.

Went to Shakey's as a kid in the Washington DC area. Decided to try it and was pleasantly surprised how good the pizza was. Still the only place I know that serves pizza and fried chicken.

Wow, this pizza is very yummy. The deep dish was so delicious! Salad bar was great as well.

We ate there during the first Auburn game of the '12 season. The pizza is outstanding. We are a family of 6 and we ordered 3 small pizzas and one medium. They all came out real quickly, except my wife's. We weren't in a hurry and were simply enjoying ourselves when the manager came over and refunded the cost of my wife's pizza just because we had waited for it for so long. We hadn't complained or anything...was just enjoying our family time. Shortly after, my wife's pizza came out. This was our second trip here...with many more to come. It is worth the drive to the Auburn area cause the people around there are so nice. It is a family friendly restaurant as well.

Great pizza. Friendly staff. I love the Firehouse pizza and the fried chicken. It's fantastic!

We were driving through Auburn on our way to Mobile, it was lunchtime, saw a billboard and remembered that about 25 years ago we lived near a Shakey's in Calumet City, IL and it was pretty good. It was lunchtime and we figured let's try it. They had a lunch buffet that was excellent. Plenty of different pizzas that were much better than CiCi's along with Fried and Baked Chicken, Fired Potatoes, pasta with meatballs and a salad bar. Many big screen TVs where we got to watch an Auburn away game during our dining. Shakey's was very good and will stop by next time through.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
