Great pizza, great service. You may have to wait a little longer than other pizza places but worth the wait. Been going there a long time and enjoy it everytime..

Restaurant that has been here for over 30 years...if you are traveling through town it is a must...always great Pizza, love their Greek salad dressing and gyros. If you are a person that likes ingredients in their pizza you should try the extra special pizza. The restaurant has recently been renovated they have added new chairs blinds, and new paint color.

Without a doubt the Best Pizza Ever, Period. Been coming here since I was a little kid and it's always been the best. Owned by a great family. I can't come to Anniston without going here. Must try this place if you haven't been here.

When I came to Alabama from New England, I figured I'd be out of luck when it came to GOOD pizza. As I drove down Quintard for the 1st time, I noticed the word "grinders" on the sign (a Rhode Island word for sandwich) and knew I had to give this place a try. Not only is it good, but it's great. I would put Matas up against pizza in Providence or Boston. The pizza is great. Light dough but a crispy crust. Very flavorful sauce, enough cheese that you will never have to (and I wouldn't recommend) ordering "extra cheese". The toppings are plentiful and fresh. The salads are even good! Only one little problem they really need to address. On a busy night, it is almost impossible to get in there and get your pizza. The line to order and the line to pick up are too close to each other and there is usually only 1 person trying to work both lines. It has taken me 15 minutes to pick up my pizza on more than one occasion (still worth it though!) Oh yeah, make sure you try the spaghetti with meat sauce as well.

Pizza is outstanding....period. The crust is delicious, and just the right texture, not too thin, yet crispy. The sauce has a great flavor and the toppings are all layered underneath the cheese. We tried the pepperoni, sausage, and onion and we loved it! The greek salad was good, however not freshly made. The kids portions of spaghetti were very generous and well priced. The baklava was delicious. Overall this was a great experience, great for kids, and super tasty. Couple of tips....you may miss it if you are not careful. Make sure to pull into the Family Dollar parking lot it is in a building out front. They definitely could use more signage to make finding them easier. The inside is a walk up counter where you order and then seat yourself. The bathrooms are like airplane small...no joke. I think they are best for take out, but if you eat in, you will survive :)

Mata's has the best pizza in Anniston, in my opinion. My favorite pizza is the steak pizza, which is very delicious! I love how they layer their pizza --- crust, sauce, cheese, meat, and MORE cheese! I'm a huge cheese lover, which is why I love them so much! The only thing I don't like is that Mata's is too small and sometimes the wait is too long. But, the staff keeps me informed on my order so I'm never left clueless. I usually order my pizza over the phone ---even if I'm eating in.. because I hate waiting! But I would definitely suggest trying Mata's if you haven't! You definitely don't know what you're missing!

Outstanding Pizza. Worth the trip. Busy during lunch hour and worth the wait. Single serving pizza was awesome and drink refills. Salads are good too. Ordering goes pretty fast and slight wait for meal to be ready. Not sure I'd say it is the best pizza I ever had (but is one of the best) since I am a former New Yorker and have a comparison gauge for what I prefer in pizza. Friendly staff and atmosphere very laid back/casual. Nothing fancy but comfortable. Visited Mata's and would definitely go back.

The absolute best pizza ever! Every time we travel to Anniston, this is a must stop. The homemade Greek dressing is delicious. You can't go wrong here!

I've been eating Mata's pizza and grinders for thirty years. Still haven't found a pizza place that comes close to Mata's for the pizza or the sandwiches and the salad with the house dressing is awesome as well. If you skip out because of the decor, then the loss is all yours.

I fell in love with Mata's when I lived in Anniston. I have to admit, I developed a faste for the greek salad and my special pizza of tomatoes, feta and onion. I rarely deviated from that line up. Everytime I visit Anniston or within an hour drive I simply MUST stop for one of their pizzas. Never disappointed. Their crust is amazing and different. They make their own sauce (which at one time I think you could purchase) and their own special cheese blend. All in all it is a winning combination that I have never been able to match anywhere I travel. If they shipped them, I would be a regular customer. It may not be the fanciest of places but most really good restaurants are the ones that are humble. Love it.

My wife and I have been eating there for many years. If you're in the mood for some delicious Greek pizza, then you've come to the right place. They've also got really tasty fresh crispy salads and euro sandwiches that in our opinion are the best around. Also try their baklava's! We've got to give them a five star rating because they deserve it. Thanks Mata's for all your great service and food!! We'll be coming to your restaurant forever!

Always good at Mata's. Pizzas are the bomb. Not much to say for the inside of the restaurant, kind of divey, but I don't mind because the pizza is so good. Mmmmm!

This is a great place for pizza or subs. It is very popular with the locals around lunch so expect a wait unless you call your order in prior to getting there.

If you are looking for pizza, grinders, Greek salad with the best dressing ever, oven baked spaghetti or baklava just drive down Quintard Avenue and go to a local favorite, Mata's. It is not fancy, but it has been in Anniston ever since I can remember and this is one of the places I always want to eat at when I am back in the area.

Walked in and walked out. Atmosphere was like a run down 1960s Dairy Queen.

Mata's is your typical hole in the wall pizza joint. It's nearly legendary around the local area, however. That's fitting, given that the pies are absolutely fantastic. This is NOT your typical Papa John's or Pizza Hut pizza. The pies are loaded with toppings and won't allow you to leave with an empty stomach. It seems like most people prefer take out, perhaps because of the lack of ambiance in the dilapidated dining room. Price is reasonable, if not a bit high for pizza. Good stuff!

I travel all over the U.S. and I have yet to find a better pizza than Matas. I couldn't tell you much about the rest of the menu because I couldn't bring myself to order anything but pizza every time I went there. Ingredients are fresh with man-sized portions. This place is a must try for real pizza lovers.

Awesome delicious pizza. Never been disappointed and I've been eating here since I was 9 years old. We came all the way from Auburn Al. to eat. 2 thumbs up.

What do you do when my first two preferred restaurants are closed on Mondays? Click on Yelp and find another. I landed at Matas Greek Pizza and Grinders. I along with a steady flow of eat-ins and take-outs (very popular) filled this establishment the entire time I was there. The actual restaurant looks updated. It is well lit and clean. The restroom area has an unpleasant scent. I suspect because it's embedded in the floors which weren't replaced when the place was renovated. The counter staff are very friendly and they really know the regulars. I loved that the three workers seemed to get along really well and had great command of the kitchen area. None of them appeared to be Greek, however. I ordered the raved about Greek salad (small) with house dressing, unsweet tea, and the brand new spinach Greek pizza (small) - available for a limited time only. The unsweet tea was fresh. I am grateful for that. You are issued a number and that number is called when various elements are ready. They'll even come out and let you know your order is ready for pickup...lol...instead of just bringing it out. The Greek Salad was good. Overdressed with house dressing. I suspect these salads are made in advance. It included many components such as red cabbage, green pepper, carrot, olives, onions and Feta cheese. The Spinach Pizza was definitely fresh and hot! I expected to be wowed with flavor but that wasn't the case. I think because it lacked a meat, such as sausage. I added salt and pepper. It helped a bit. The crust was thick on the rim and thin/crunchy on the bottom. It could have used something to give it flavor, but the fact that it was fresh and crunchy worked for me. There was a LOT of spinach and fresh cheese. A treat if you are use to Dominos, Papa Johns, etc. Matas is good. It was hot and filling. The staff was pleasant and the noise level was low which made for a pleasant dining experience.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
