It was okay. The service was slow with the waiter constantly apologising about the "delay". This got quite tedious and predictable. He even stopped to have a chat to another table for about 10mins when he said he would be "right back". The food was clearly pre-prepared as it only took about 10mins from order to table for the food and scum lines were starting to form around some of the sauces. A typical hallmark of a hotplate. The decor needed a bit of an overhaul as it was a bit outdated and the staff looked a bit shambly. We even overhead one woman saying to a fellow colleague she hadn't looked at her phone all evening - definitely more important than serving paying customers... Yet, the view was good of the harbour and the simple dishes like salad were very good.

Not very good service, but only one waitress trying to serve everyone (about 5 tables). She ran by and took our order, came back with our food about 30 minutes later. Our mushroom appetizer and burgers came out at the same time. Burgers were dry, fries not bad. The fried mushrooms were ok, extremely greasy, they weren't very hot when they came out. For $12 burgers and $12 appetizer not worth it.

Grabbed a quick bite at THC Off The Hook. Service was discombobulated. Place was about 1/4 full with lots of staff around. Sat us at a filthy table even with several clean ones to pick from. Had to get up not once, but twice so they could clean around us. Took about 20 minutes to get my drink order--a beer. Ordered fish and chips, swapped salad for the chips. Gah. Alaska, how can you do fish so poorly?!? Halibut was overcooked by twice, rubbery and bland. C'mon. Can't remember what the husband got, but it wasn't good either. Not a lot of great choices in this town, but aside from the view, you're really better off across the street.

Good service, good view. We had burgers in the lounge bar, which were ok. Nothing special, but wholesome and warming. Wait staff was friendly and the place seemed full of locals.

Legit food & service. A must in Valdez, AK. The deep friend mushrooms were the best I've ever had, and the seafood alfredo was creamy & quite flavorful.

Chicken Marsala? Yes please. Quick food with excellent servers. I went here with the gal, and we ordered chicken marsala (made with heavy cream?) and Salmon with Mango Salsa. The Chicken was delicious and piping hot. The Salmon was tasty but a little chill, and I don't think it was the cool Alaskan breeeeze. The meal was expensive, but what can be expected in such a remote piece of heaven? The snow was piled high, and so was the fettucini on the chicken. Overall great meal with a great gal in a great place. Love from Snow Town!

Off the Hook has a fantastic view that never changes even though ownership does frequently. Chefs and names of the restaurants in this building have changed many times in the past 30 years and I've tried them all. I have to say this owner/chef is the best. We had lunch there today starting with shrimp covered with wasabi sauce appetizers to share. In hindsight, I should have ordered an order of the shrimp as my meal instead of the chicken sandwich. The sandwich was good, but the shrimp was to die for. My husband's burger was a bit above average but nothing to shout about. I asked for and received a side cup of the wasabi sauce to dip our fries into. The wasabi sauce was the same as was used in the shrimp and made the fries extraordinary. It was a nice Sunday afternoon lunch but one we would only do once in a blue moon as $45.00 for lunch is a bit high. There were only three tables in use and service was slow or I would have given the place a 5.

One of the best restaurants in Valdez! Their chef really knows how to cook and the view is certainly one of the best in town. The harbor is a great backdrop to a tasty meal. For lunch one day I had the $18 lunch fettuccine with shrimp. The alfredo was creamy and the parmesan was a nice touch. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, plump and juicy. For dinner one night I splurged and had the 12oz prime rib with 1/2 pound of king crab for $45. The crab was simply amazing. The legs were cracked for easy crab access and were cooked to perfection. The 12oz prime rib was peppered nicely and seemed like more than 12oz. Definitely worth the price to eat crab and steak looking over the harbor. THC Off the Hook was the best restaurant I experienced in Valdez.

If you are in Valdez, there are not a whole lot of restaurants to begin with. Despite this, THC is a pretty nice place that attached to the Best Western. They also have a bar attached which seems to be open later than the restaurant itself. The service was good, friendly and attentive staff that are use to people visiting from out of town. I only tried their burger, which was delicious. Fries were perfectly crisp and seasoned. I did make the mistake of ordering an Almond Joy cheesecake which I was told was popular. It was VERY similar to the candy bar and I don't know why I forgot that I didn't like so much coconut flakes all over the cheesecake....but if you do enjoy almond joys then this cheesecake is for you. Views are great, right over the waterfront and harbor.

A very nice restaurant at the Valdez harbor. Nice view and good service. Definitely try the seared ahi tuna and scallop parmesan in the appetizers. The Peruvian seafood rice is another must try. I'm only giving this restaurant 3 stars because the waitress charged our party of four 20% tips automatically even when the menu says that only applies to party bigger than six. When asked about it, our waitress MEL said that's because people from other countries sometimes don't leave tips. I feel we are discriminated against. We were fine leaving 20% tips, but were not happy because it was automatically added onto our bill. She also charged us $4 on the second basket of bread without mentioning it beforehand. We only found it out when we got the bill.

Seafood sampler had 1 clam, 1 shrimp, some calamari rings, and A LOT of misc fish pieces. Was told it had no fish???? Buddy had the special. Supposed to have veggies in it, but didn't. Needless the wait staff has some things to work on. The meals were average. Probably won't return, unless I have to.

If you travel to small towns often, you'll notice a theme. There's often a restaurant attached to the Best Western. Most of the time the food is average, at best. Meanwhile, there are exceptions, like the Northwoods Restaurant in Crescent City, Ca, and here in Valdez with Off The Hook. Steps from our door (this is one of the oldest Best Westerns and outdated I've ever seen) Off The Hook likely delivers the best meal in town. Some will argue that the Fat Mermaid rivals it, but we're giving Off the Hook the nod. Not only does Off The Hook offer a stunning view of the Valdez Harbor while you eat much off the entrees rival the view. It's one of the few places in Valdez where the service compliments the quality, flavor and experience. For the best dining experience in town, come here, whether you're with a loved one, family or solo. Keep in mind, for those walking in with smelly, fishy clothes on there's a bar area loaded with TVs that's perfect for you. Everyone else is destined for the dining area. We came here to eat, right? What's best on the menu? There's nothing we saw pass our table you wouldn't enjoy. Personally, my favorite was the Special of the Day, which is offered plenty of times during the summer: the Seafood Pasta (they have a different name for it). It comes with a slab of halibut, mussels, shrimp and pasta with a slightly spicy marinara. It's worth ordering. Not surprising, there's plenty of fresh salmon, halibut and shrimp to go around and this would be the place to order it. They chef succeeds with large portions, quality fish and presentation. It's the best place for seafood in town. You don't have to order seafood to be content, however. Try one of their burgers. While the burgers at Oldtown Burgers down the street taste great the size, quantity and quality of toppings is slightly better here. Try the guacamole burger. It's darn good! Regardless of what you order you'll have the best chance of enjoying a meal here when it comes to Valdez dining. It's not the greatest place you'll ever it, but in Valdez it's at the top.

Very interesting menu for the area but still has a seafood base that you expect with a view like that. All of our dishes were unique and tasted amazing. The restaurant itself was OK and the service was decent. I'd definitely stop in again if I'm in the area.

Outside of Valdez this would not rate as high, first they were packed busy, sat in the bar which causes you to get two bills one for drinks one for food, everyone very friendly, but due to some kind of theater event was extremely busy, so bar ran out of glasses, no problem got martinis in water glasses, so quick to adapt, ordered an appetizer that never came, they were out of baked potatoes so went mashed which was big mistake they we very bad tasting, prime rib was excellent and large so loved that,

Just had the Halibut burger. It was very good. The Pow Pow Wasabi Shrimp was good as an appetizer. The scenery was outstanding with being right by the water and the mountains surrounding everything.

Delicious food, good service, a bit over priced. The boiled shrimp were the sweetest I have ever tasted. First time having fish and chips with salmon..

Super shite service. One would think if you weren't a hippy dressed local then you would not get proper service. Food server was awesome, hung over ugly bartender was not. I shall show my displeasure in the amount of the tip.

It's water front, and we had a great dinner there. View is good, service is also lovely. For entree: The salmon with hollywood style sauce is awesome! That's my favorite that night. Snow crab is actually good too, as big as king crab almost. The baked seafood with cheeses are ok, not bad. For appetizer and dessert: Seared ahi tuna is so so. Not feels as fresh as in Hawaii for sure. Chocolate moose is a bit too sweet for me. But it looks lovely. Plus, after a day of kayaking, it's a comfortable and lovely place to enjoy the rest of the day.

My wife and I are staying at the Best Western so we naturally tried this place. I had the King Hawwian Burger. I upgraded the fries to sweet potato fries and I'm sure glad I did. They were very good! The burger was fantastic, but very messy and juicy to eat. No complaints on my end. My wife ordered a salad. When ask what kind of dressing she wanted we found out they don't have Honey mustard, or Thousand Island, or a couple others we ask for. We finally ask them what they had and ended up with Ranch. She was still happy with it and overall it was a good experience. I never did get ketchup, but the sweet potato fries were good without it. If the prices were a little lower I would give them 4 stars and if they had an assortment of salad dressings and ketchup, they would get 5.

Love this place. I always eat here when I'm in Valdez. The food is great and the staff is awesome. I really enjoy their burgers, which are the best bang for your buck in my opinion. Mel and Alberto (owners) are great people and treat you like you're family!
