Another fanatastic happenstance .. and thanks other Yelpers! We got into Talkeetna later in the afternoon, starving. Perfect weather (in June) for outside dining. Excellent meals, and we had a lot of fun with our server .. hubby wanted a root beer float, which isn't on the menu. But he pointed out that they have root beer, and they have ice cream, and you could see the light bulb pop! Enjoyed the visit, the food and the town. Go, Mayor Stubbs!

I thought it was better than the 3.5 star rating. Granted we only had appetizers but the ones we had were great. Even better was the sprawling beer menu, which we tried a few of and enjoyed. The onion rings were very good, as were the French fries. The guy next to us had the chili and said it was the best he had ever. Yum! We sat outside and it was very pleasant. The inside looks like a dive bar, but looks are deceiving.

This pub style restaurant is tucked away off the main strip, which makes it fantastic if you're looking for a place away from the touristy hustle & bustle. My fiancé & I went in on a Thursday at 3pm. There is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors (umbrellas provide coverage for rain). They were playing what seemed to be an internet radio station that included Mumford & Sons, the Neighborhood, Green Day, & The Offspring, and someone in the kitchen was playing Avenge Sevenfold. The kitchen is on the patio but it's covered & screened. We did see a mouse run along the patio, but hey, this is Alaska. The staff was courteous and knowledgeable about the drinks & food. There wasn't a huge selection of beers, but they were all good quality. I tried the Tundra Apple, the Agave, and the Irish Death, but the Oosik and the Ice Axe were my favorite. For lunch we shared the Northern Lights burger with the caribou patty & fatass sauce and the Halibut & Chips. Both entrees were delicious. The caribou patty was tasty but light, and the fixings for the Northern Lights burger provided a bang but were very well balanced. I wasn't too impressed with the fatass sauce, but my husband loved it with his fries. I was surprised that they only gave me one piece of Halibut, but after breaking into it, I could see that it was way bigger than it initially looked. The fish was so flakey and the batter they fried it in complimented it very well. It seemed to melt in my mouth.

Terrible. Multiple groups that sat down after us received their food after ours. After waiting a hour and a half for the food, that came out right as we were getting up to leave and try somewhere else. All he could say was they weren't prepared and it's a holiday weekend. Will never return.

Food was quick to arrive. Place is suffering employee grumbling issues.... Could hear a lot of gripping and complaining about people quitting. Worth the stop but nothing special. Salmon Caesar salad was good as were the halibut chips were good.

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this place! The service was awesome. The waiter was quirky in a really adorable way and was very friendly. He was always nearby without helicoptering over us. The beer selection was on point. They have a beer that is brewed especially for them called "Ice Axe." It is 9% alcohol, but it is a smooth drink with a great aftertaste. Limit is 2 per person. ; ) The food was all "close your eyes and sigh" good. We had: Alaska Halibut Sandwich - I HATE fish, but I had a bite of this and absolutely loved it. It wasn't fishy at all and tasted very fresh. Caribou Chili- Delicious and warming! Burger with Fatass Sauce- I don't know what was in the sauce, but it was hella good. Fries- Generous portion and crispy, salty yumminess. Chicken Tenders- Super meaty and crispy. This place is famous for their Seward`s Folly, a monstrous burger featured on Man vs. Food. It is an experience of it self watching people attempting to tame that monster. I would stop by Talkeetna just to eat here! That good!

I had dinner with my boyfriend here during his first visit to Alaska and neither of us had ever been to Talkeetna. We chose this place on a whim and it ended up being a great experience. The weather was nice enough that every single patron was on the patio and the menu had a lot of options but nothing too complicated. He had a hamburger (decent, nothing special) and I had the halibut and chips which were great! I don't eat a lot of fish and chips so I don't have much to compare it to, but the breading was thick and the fish chunks were huge which was exactly what I was looking for that night. We also split an order of the Alaskan king crab which was a full pound for ~$25 and even more french fries. Our waiter was pretty busy but nice enough and when I asked for a side of the aioli for my fries he made sure that I got it right away.

Decided to eat here because it was the closest and our son really needed to use the restroom. As we were all standing outside (in the freezing weather) waiting our turns I turned to one of my older girls and said I had a feeling eating here would make me sick. Alas, we stayed anyways for lunch. For appetizers we orders clams and a basket of fries for the kids (we were told the kids meals came with veggie sticks and not fries). The clams were pretty good, especially for only being nine bucks! I ordered a cheeseburger and my husband ordered the crab legs. I asked for my burger to be medium. The first bite of my burger I commented to my husband how dry it was. The patty was cooked through and dry! There was also no mayo, mustard or ketchup even though it wouldn't have made a difference. The kids meals were average diner kid's meals, but what do you know, they came with fries! So here we spent an extra six bucks on a basket of fries for the kids even though we didn't need to. The pints of draft beer were less than $5, very good deal in my book. My biggest complaint was the price they charged for the kids' sodas. Seriously, $2.85 for a soda?!

Absolutely lived up to the hype. This place is fantastic. The vibe at West Rib is great. It's a nice mix of tourists and locals. Sitting on the patio on a warm day was heavenly. But the inside of the pub is very cool, so you can't go wrong there either. I went thinking I was going to order the Seward's Folley to share with my honey, but when I saw someone else order it, I knew it would just be a waste. Instead I ordered the Caribou Burger with a side of fatass sauce and it was just right! I finished the whole thing and felt slightly overstuffed. Yum. The best thing is that for a beer and a burger, it's cheaper than Anchorage. Go figure! Totally worth the 3 hour drive from Anchorage to spend a few hours at the pub chilling in the sun with a great burger and a beer. Definitely one of my favorite spots to eat in Alaska. Win!

Total failure. Unprepared for a holiday weekend. 1.5 hours to get half of our food. People that came in 30 minutes after us got food. The ultimate excuse...."we're busy"! Really? Great expectations for a road trip from anchorage and it wasted our afternoon and poured water on our spirit.

Just sat there for a quick salad in the afternoon....the service was fast and efficient....the salad was...well...salad....fresh vegetebles....nice balsamic sauce....then i saw some people make their own taco so i did so myself....was nice...not more no less....didnt drink any beer but saw they have a nice mix of local ales plus the house star the ice axe of 9.2%.....all in all i enjoyed it there

They catered to a group of 8 of us and we all left stuffed and extremely satisfied!! The halibut & chips is the best fish & chips I have ever had and I've tried this meal from places all over the world!! Happy Hour special is 50% off apps from 4pm to 6pm. The hot crab dip is an amazing appetizer!! Great atmosphere and beyond delicious food. Can't be beat!!!

Axe ale is awesome, now I see why some call it the colt 45 of Alaska. It def has knock out power. Got a black and blue burger and it was good but the meat a little bland and nothing special. The kids chicken nuggets were ok at best. Seems like a cheap product but the portion was huge and my 2yo tore it up. My wife has family in the area so when we visit this is the place to go

Holy geeze-us. Four of us girls tackled the Seward Folly burger. We had seen it on Man Vs Food and made the trip out to Talkeetna just to order it. We were there when they opened and got a table outside in the back (there are two entrances...through the store and then on the side to the restaurant). I have to say, that thing is an ugly pile of mess. But the paparazzi were out like it was the most famous thing in town. As soon as they brought it to our table, everyone around us asked to take a picture of it. We politely obliged like any other good burger owner would do. Even cut into fourths, it was still overwhelming to finish. The caribou burger was surprisingly delicious!!! Even though it insanely big, the seasoning was perfect. The yummy Fat Ass sauce needs to be bottled. I could have passed on the ham and 12 slices of bacon but it was all divine. Bring a group to try out your skills. And thank goodness for nearby bathrooms because our hands smelled like burger all day despite soap and water.

Order a chicken quesadilla after 9PM. Best 4 bucks you'll spend. The crowd was cool too.

My family stopped in here while we were staying in Talkeetna. The place has some fame from being featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and also because it is the home of the town mayor, Stubbs (a cat). The beer was good, the ceviche was decent (though the chunks of fish where a little too big for my taste), and I was told the burgers were quite excellent, however I was not impressed with the caribou filet. The atmosphere was lively and we enjoyed sitting on the patio, however service was rather lacking. Granted, it was a busy day, but we seemed to be waiting much longer than we should have to get refills, etc.

Just left this establishment after waiting for over 20 min to order and not a single waiter or waitress to stop and say hello. Our party of 4 waved down the bus boy to ask for a waiter he looked over his shoulder and kept walking. Then we waved down a waiter who harshly stated he wasn't our waiter and kept walking. We waited 5 more minutes until we gave up and left. Maybe the poor service is because we're Asian and they're racists as all other Caucasian parties were being diligently attended to. Either that or perhaps Alaskans have a low standard for service? Either way I would not recommend stopping by except for a free photo.

I came in because I've been wanting to try a Seward's Folly monster burger, but alas I only had one dining companion with me. I think that burger will need at least 5 people to conquer it. I settled on the Northern Lts burger, which was caribou with sauteed onions and peppers. I added the swiss. I got the slaw and my friend got the fries. I think this may have been all caribou, meaning it wasn't cut with pork or beef because it was crumbly as it is so lean. That was a pleasant surprise actually, the burger was large but it didn't sit like a stone in the gut. It was flavorful and yummy. I didn't try the West Rib Axe ale as it was over 9% alcohol and I still wanted to walk around, but I found this to be a good burger joint and will try to conquer the Folly some other time. I've got to ask, what is up with the colors on the pint glass? Red, lavender, and avocado together is horrid. Maybe two of those colors with an opposite on the color wheel but three?

Either we came on a really bad night or I don't know a thing about eating. We stayed in Talkeetna on a Tuesday in the off season so didn't have to deal with the crowds. We only ate here because it was mentioned by our hotel and because of its hype from being on a TV show. The service was horrible. No one greeted us at the door. After standing there for while, we just sat at an open table. The waiter eventually came over and took our order. The hubby got the Philly Cheesesteak and I got the crab legs. The prices were great for Alaska, but I know now that its because the food is subpar. The crab legs were freezer burned and way overcooked. The shells were mushy and the meat inside was so rubbery I couldn't eat it. When I asked the owner if that was normal, she said yes it was. Even after complaining, they charged us full price. No offer to make up for the obviously poorly cooked meal. The philly cheesesteak was made with canned cheese, which is probably the way its supposed to be, but it was awful. The fries were good. We just moved to Alaska and plan to visit Talkeetna often, but I will never eat here again. I guess if you want to eat a burger in a quirky little Talkeetna tavern with poor service, then this is your place.

Visited this place when we were in Talkeetna today. The seafood chowder's consistency was a little pasty and bland. Ordered the Bleu burger. It was okay but the meat was bland. Service was good. Our server was attentive and ontop of our drinks. It wasn't bad food - just okay. I really wish the meat had more flavor.

Went to dinner with friends and their 2 year old son. The waitress was very nice however the child's meal came first and then about 10 min later 3 of our meals came. The last meal came when we were finished eating and when I asked why the waitress said that it may not look busy but it is and the cook is backed up on ordrers. 2 of the meals were pretty bad and we sent one back. Everything tasted like it was cooked in very old grease. Oh and almost forgot to mention that because the child's food came so soon he was finished eating by the time ours came and he was getting really antsy.

Mediocre food. But the best part was the entertainment. The professional mouse skipping around on the carpet was overpaid. Patio furniture on the interior really tops off the decor in this lucky to be open "restaurant". Good thing they have a 9.2% beer so you won't have to worry about all those little voices in your head telling you to get up and leave before you order.

Thank you, West Rib Pub & Grill for giving me the best pig-out experience of my life, and for the wonderful service! I bow down to your greatness. I arrived in Talkeetna around 10am, and had to leave at 12:30 in order to get back in Anchorage in time for the Princess Cruise shuttle. However, West Rib Pub open at 12pm!!! I need at least an hour to eat the epic Seward's Folly! What should I do!? We asked the restaurant staff if there is any possible way to get it to go, but considering how huge the sandwich is, they said it would be pretty much impossible. So, I devised up a plan. I sat down and waited for the burger to be made. I asked the kitchen to make it as fast as possible, and waited in anticipation. Having seen the burger on Man v. Food, the joy kept building up as I counted the slices of cheese and ham in mind. In about 15 min, the burger came out in all of its glory: 2 1lb caribou patties, 6 slices of American cheese, 6 slices of Swiss cheese, 12 slices of bacon, a pound of ham, "FatAss Sauce" (mayonnaise, horseradish, bacon, and balsamic vinaigrette), caramelized onions, lettuce and tomatoes, and 3 sourdough burger buns. I took the first bite of meaty fatty goodness and fell in love. The caribou meat is very tender, and the thick layer of cheese adds an amazing text and texture to the whole deal. The ham is also very well cooked and makes everything just out of this world. How non-Kosher can a Jew get? Who cares if my arteries will get clogged! I never know if I'll be back to experience it again! I took a couple of bites and...oh did I mention it comes with a pound of fries? Anyway, I took the first couple of bites, and it was time to go. Will I have to part with my burger? NEVER!!! I asked for 3 boxes: one for the top part, one for the bottom part, and one for the fries. Surprisingly, we were given the boxes despite the awkward look. I took the three boxes with me, and managed to eat the top half of the burger on the 3 hour drive down to Anchorage, along with half of the fries that my dad ate. I was about to start the 2nd half, but just couldn't handle it anymore, so I saved the rest for later. If you're ever in Talkeetna and are ever adventurous enough to go for this burger, don't miss out. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity that you might never get to try again. Who cares if it's $26?! It's worth it! By the way, you get a small little flier of the burger for buying it as a nice souvenir.

We went as part of a "tour group" to see Talkeetna. The shuttle driver suggested the West Rib. There were 6 people in our party - 10yrs (2), 14yrs, 51yrs (2), 79yrs. I had the halibut burger (awesome!). Two others had the halibut and chips - that was great, too! One had the salmon burger and they said that was good. And one had the cheeseburger with the "fat ass sauce" and said the burger was good but the sauce as just "ok". The three adults all shared 2 pitchers of the Ice Axe Ale - AWESOME! That was good beer! All in all, a wonderful meal! We ate outside as it was too crowded to sit six of us inside right away and the kids were hungry. Service was prompt and responsive. It was rather expensive but still a good experience!

Noon, 7-18-14...do you have the Ceviche Special? Server said no it's only served occasionally. Disappointed, we ordered sandwiches. As we left, the handwritten sign outside the door said one of today's specials was "Ceviche". Too bad we didn't notice this server's incompetence before we paid. Food was average at best.

Totally pissed off at blowing over $20 at the Roadhouse on crap food, I headed for the place I had seen on the Travel Channel...I ordered a burger and the kids got fish and chips. I mean, Talkeetna is nothing more than an expensive tourist trap now so why bother with a faux folksy roadhouse???? Sure, even this place was packed with senior citizens and Europeans who thought the whole town was "fabulous, just fabulous" but at least the food was good. Damn good. Or maybe it tasted better because I was still mad about the Roadhouse and Talkeetna in general. My kids and I had just taken the drive from Wasilla over Hatcher Pass and decided to head north, so I could show them how cool Talkeetna was. I had no idea that somehow in the last 18 years the place could transform itself to a Mackinaw Island without the view and worse, packed with cars and even worse, giant tour busses. Major reality check. Major depression. I ordered the "fat ass sauce" for my burger just to try it and it was char broiled and good - I think cream cheese, mayo and cucumber and onion are the secret sauce...nice. The fish and chips were done perfectly - golden and crispy. Service was prompt. Yes, this is a bar - lots of outside seating - don't bring your babies in strollers - it's too crowded for that. At least it's loud so you can't hear the kids screaming.

Well, folks, it's a burger joint. The portions are hearty but the food isn't anything too memorable (but tastes pretty good). The beer is perfect for a warm sunny afternoon, and the ambiance is more like a bar than a family restaurant.

We noticed how Man Vs. Food came here to eat their Seward's Folly Caribou Burger. "Seward's Folly", a 4 1/2-pound double-stacked burger made with Caribou meat (in the form of two 1-lb. patties) and topped with American and Swiss cheese, 12 slices of bacon, a pound of ham, "FatAss Sauce" (made with mayonnaise, horseradish, bacon, and balsamic vinaigrette), caramelized onions, lettuce and tomatoes, and served inside toasted sourdough bread. The burger is held together with a small Alaskan flag and served with a pound of fries- taken from wikipedia. So we had to try and order one. We decided to split the 5 lbs. burger between two people. It was delicious, but I couldn't even finish half of it. They also make their own cream soda. They have the best cream soda ever! I am happy I went there!

It was a bright and sunny evening in Talkeetna, so we were looking for a restaurant where we could sit outside. The West Rib Pub had a nice, enclosed patio, so we settled on going there for dinner. I had the asiago halibut, which was pretty good, along with the Ice Axe Ale, which was really good.

  • Lawrence C.

The first time I saw an alaskan halibut, freshly caught, and literally still breathing when it was not so gently laid down on a table, I thought someone must have caught a sea monster. It was huge! So when I order the halibut caesar salad here, I though I was going to get a huge slab of fish, cause halibut must be cheap here, but I was sadly mistaken. I really wanted to like this place, because Talkeetna is just a cool little town. I was also incredibly hungry, after just having come back from climbing Denali, I was expecting to devour a big ass piece of fish. Oh well, had to get my other calories in liquid form.

While spending 2 days in Talkeetna - too long, especially in the rain - we ate here for dinner based on previous reviews. I had the cod fish and Chips and wife had the fish tacos. Food was good, not great. Fish had way too much breading but was still tasty. Worst thing thing is that the place is just dirty. Waiter's fingernails looked like he hadn't washed in some time. Ick. It was obvious other tourists felt likewise. Saw similar things at the Roadhouse but didn't eat there, just had coffee and hot chocolate. Talkeetna is an interesting and very small place, very touristy. Best place we ate was Wildflower Cafe.

decent beers, good burgers, great fish and chips. Service is salty, it seems like they just don't care too much for people who aren't locals. But, I look forward to eating here anytime I'm up from "the big city" of Anchorage.

    (3)
  • Todd Q.

Food was OK. Seafood chowder over powered with pepper and served Luke warm. The halibut and chips were greasy. Black bean burger with mushrooms was pretty tasteless. Chicken fillet sandwich was a little dry. Best thing, sadly was the fries.

OK - burgers etc. are OK. Chili OK. Nothing extraordinary about the food. However, the service was not OK. We had to ask several times for cutlery, napkins, salt, pepper etc. The waitress said "Oh - somone forget to set up this table" and then disappeared. The check was on the table before the food arrived. They were inundated with tour groups. All they were interested in was turning over the tables. We felt rushed, and we were rushed. That overshadowed the food, but then the food was only average, and the price was above average. Never again.

Drove out from Anchorage with the kids to look at a property in the area and promised we'd eat at the place we saw on Man Vs Food, West Rib Pub. The bribe worked great for a peaceful and patient ride, and the burgers were really as good as we had hoped. We each ordered The Stubbs Burger (a bacon burger with two kinds of cheese) and I upgraded to Parmesian Fries. Forgot to order their special sauce, though it wasn't exactly needed. The burgers had a delicious charbroiled flavor, the buns were nicely toasted so as not to end up soggy and the fries were nice and crisp. Be prepared for a wait to be seated as it turns out, we weren't the only ones who are fans of Man vs Food. Two customers did order the Seward's Folly while we were there, neither finished. The menu did offer many other items like sandwiches, salads and chilies, but, honestly, it would be pretty hard to convince me to try anything but a burger for a while. And the best part, my kids can't wait to drive out again to have another. Me either.

Our favorite activity in the summer is driving the RV up to Talkeetna and camping out for a weekend. During our stay in Talkeetna, we walk to West Rib and order a pitcher of the Ice Axe Ale. So tasty. After we consume our limit (yes, there is a limit because it's so potent!!!) we stumble back to the RV and sleep it off. Very fun. Good wings. Good potato skins. Best beer.

We arrived for dinner at 9:50 pm 10 minutes before closing and they were very accommodating even though they were in the midst of cleaning up for the day. I had the bleu burger which and my husband had the Stubbs. Both were excellent and really hit the spot. We were starving after spending all day at Denali and then arriving late due to highway construction. I say the food is excellent and the service was great. They never made us feel rushed even though we were so late getting there. I would have liked to come in earlier to get a feel for the place, it has so many interesting things on the the walls and seems like a place that many locals enjoy.

Great staff! Have a nice seating area inside or out!! I had the Seward's Folly Caribou Burger was amazingly HUGE. The fish was very fresh and Delicious I had on another day. I do not drink but they seem to have a very wide variety of beer and such. If you get a sewards folly you may die...but its worth it, trust me.

"Meh" is right. We went in here thinking about getting the Seward's Folly (to share) but chickened out. Nice selection of beer but the food was blah. Even our "been hiking in Denali and starved for something besides instant curry" bellies were not satisfied. But you won't listen... you'll go anyway because Adam Richman ate here... don't get mad when I say that I told you so.

The service was ok Bu the food was great. Tried the famous seward's folly which is a five pound burger with a pound side of fries. The burger was so good but I could only finish about a pound in a half. If you want to try this monster it's available on request. It isn't on the menu. Good food good time. I want to come back and try one of the smaller burgers cause they are so good!

A cool burger joint in a cool little town. 120 miles North of Anchorage. I had the Stubbs burger (named after a former or current Mayor of Talkenta), just a simple, classic but delicious burger with bacon and cheddar. I really liked the novelty of this place. It was featured on TRAVEL CHANNEL`S Man VS Food ... The biggest burger in Alaska! is on the menu! Around 5#`s with over 2#`s of Caribou burger, sliced ham, 12 slices of bacon, 12 slices of cheese, lettuce, tomato and grilled onions and smothered in our famous `Fat Ass` sauce. I am not sure what is in that sauce but I am certain it is disgusting! Also the walls were completely covered with customer graffiti and pictures of Mount McKinley and various famous climbers.

Wasn't worth my time. My husband and I ate here last week. We saw that it was busy and hear that there was good food. Something about and episode on Travel Channels Man vs. Food. Anyways...... I had the King Crab sandwich and my husband had the reindeer chili and a beer. I found the crabcake was overly bready and not much crab. Considering this is Alaska I was a bit disappointed about the food. We spend over 2 weeks in Alaska and It was one of only 2 bad food dishes I had the whole trip. I would not bother to go back again. Ambiance is non-existent and the food was sub par from the Talkeetna Roadhouse that was just 40 walking steps down the main street. Service was good and my husband liked the beer and chili to conclude on a good note

So I came here during the Wilderness Woman Weekend which is a bit busier than most weekends. I'm an avid fan of Man v. Food so I had to visit one of the show's picks. I ordered a caribou burger and fries for take out, which took over 30 minutes to arrive. I found the wait a little too ridiculous, even for Alaska standards (notoriously slow service) and the burger was dried out and tasteless. I've had other caribou burgers so I know that it's not a meat issue, it was the way they prepared it. Overall disappointing since Man v. Food had not steered me wrong before.

My son and I drove up from Wasilla, mainly to get out of the house for awhile. Having watched Man Vs. Food the previous weekend, we decided to go for the Seward's Folly. We both went for the Junior version My first experience with caribou. It was quite good. I didn't notice much gaminess in the caribou meat, although I thought the texture was more like meatloaf than hamburger. It didn't detract from the meal however. While the bun had been toasted, it was so thick that the top and bottom was still cold when you picked it up to eat it. The boatload of fries that came with it were pretty good as well. My son and I manged to eat half of it before taking the other half home. We both kept the Alaskan flag that came with it. Service was good, I didn't run out of tea (which can be difficult for even some the best waitstaff out there...), although it took quite awhile to get the food once we ordered, but we were already expecting that. That took quite a bit of time to cook fresh, I'm sure. Having sampled the Seward's Folly, I'd like to try their burgers and fish next time if I ever get there again.

Nice little restaurant with Alaskan fare as well as many traditional American favorites. Decent tap list of American craft beers, with several Alaskan brews represented nicely. Small and intimate location with some outdoor seating for the warmer months. Located adjacent to a nice liquor store with even more beers to take home.

cool atmosphere and the advertisement of man vs food was intriguing. however, as i've learned from going to a few of those man vs food places, i'll take the TV host's exaggeration with a grain of salt. the elk burger was extremely dry. saving grace was the garlic/parm fries.

We came to Talkeetna for a wedding and had an hour to kill before the ceremony. We ended up here and glad we did! Great service, fun environment and fantastic staff. This was even during the winter season! Definitely a great place and we'll be back.

Has a great outdoor deck that is perfect for sunny days. Look out for stubs the cat jumping off the roof.

If you are traveling around Mt McKinley or Denali National Park you should stop in Telkeetna first. This small town is great and offers a unique view of Alaska. While you are there, stop by the West Rib Pub for a cold locally brewed beer before tackling the largest mountain in North America. The West Rib Pub offers a great casual menu, extensive beer selection, and a great view of the mountain. Great indoor and outdoor seating, this seasonal Pub offers any traveler a break before exploring the great outdoors.

At the beginning of Talkeetna's Main Street in downtown is West Rib. This pub is connected to Nagley's General Store and a Talkeetna tourism information store. Nagley's sells liquor and any snack stuff you may find at a local 7-11. We stopped by for lunch on a Saturday and the outdoor patio was completely full, which left only a few tables inside, or one in the bar area. We decided to sit near the bar (of course!). While we were sipping our beers we even got to see the Mayor of the town walking around doing Mayor stuff (it's a cat named Stubs). Because it was such a hot day, lots of gnats were buzzing around in circles in the middle of the room. Even with some of the staff taking turns with the electric fly swatter, it seemed like the kept multiplying. But we didn't care, we were starving and looking forward to a beer and burger. The menu is filled with your typical bar favorites like burgers, wings, and mozzarella sticks as well as plenty of seafood. If you're up for it, they also have the infamous Seward's Foley burger that towers so high it made even Adam Richman's eyes bulge. Instead, I got the build-your-own burger with a caribou patty, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle with a side of fries. The burger was actually pretty small and it was served on a hard, thick ciabatta-like bun -- definitely not the normal sesame seed ones seen in every other picture. The caribou patty was actually incredibly tasty with a nice blend of seasonings, but it too was way smaller than expected. Perhaps they ran out of other buns? who knows, but the ones we got were a bummer. West Rib is a fun crossroads of the world type of place with scribbles and notes covering the walls that were written by people from all across the country. After just looking for a few minutes we could account for almost half the states in the union. Even though the burgers weren't what we were expecting, the caribou meat itself was amazing and worth checking out on its own. Also, be sure to give Mayor Stubs some chin scratches before leaving!

Great Chili. I had the junior burger 2 days earlier and it was huge. Nice low key crowd. Service was impeccable. We got a good sense on what the Alaskan experience was really all about here.

Yum! Order the halibut olympia. It's awesome. Can't seem to stop eating it.. And try the Ice Axe ale. My beer friend now dreams about it. Onion rings are quite expensive, due to small servings, but figured not just in this restaurant but in others as well. Its a bit of a wait in here, but if youre on vacay, why not, its worth your while!

The vibe was cool being that is in a great little town but like many others have said, the burgers are poor. I had the northern lights burger. The whole thing basically fell apart when I started eating it because the bread and meat was so dry. Haven't had to do that in a longgggg time. The bread they use is just not good. It's not big enough and its dry. Save your cash and head to the denali brewpub a few buildings down and on the opposite side of the street.

Love the caribou burger. Really wanted to try the man vs food 5lb stewards folly. There is nothing more to say. Fun night with friends.

I came here for lunch and for appetizers during my stay in Talkeetna. Fairly cool vibe, the food came out hot, quick, and was great. For lunch I had the caribou chili -- it was fantastic. My partner had the the burger -- really great burger. For happy hour (after 9 pm!) we had half price appetizers. They were not bad (for Alaskan standards) but weren't "blow my mind away" good. They have a fairly decent variety of nice Alaskan brews on tap. Simple, cool place to get a burger. Cool mountain accoutrement adorning walls, obviously in the spirit of Denali. You definitely feel like you are in a burger joint that is at the base of one of the tallest mountains in the world. If I were in Talkeetna again, I'd come back.

This is a GREAT place to eat. I recently went for The Seward's Folly as a group task slash wedding present to myself. Glad I went for it. They have this stuff called Fat Ass Sauce...it's good on everything. Happy hour halibut isn't as good as the regular meal, it's different fish completely, so that's not the best. that's actually the only criticize I have, but it IS half price, so...ya know. Oh, plus they serve Ice Axe beer. It's delicious, but you're only allowed two because of the high alcohol content. Mmmm.

Wish I read the reviews here first. Worst meal in my week here in Alaska. None of it was "fresh" as touted in the menu. The reason the crab was cheap was the fact that it had freezer burn on it. The chowder was, as stated in prior postings, bland, and pasty. The fries were soggy and oily. The fish were 3 tiny pieces of fried balls with some fish hidden in the middle. The crab dip was good, but almost non-existent in a sourdough bowl barely cut out. The Caribou Chili was also good, but again, almost no meat. Service was not great and the only restaurant in Alaska to add service (20%) for our party. Other good restaurants here. Try another one. Sorry Adam Richmond.

The Ice Axe ale was tasty and lived up to its high alcohol claim. The food is above average bar fare, but the service and food quality becomes unpredictable when Princess dumps a couple of coaches full of cruise/tour tourists off at the outskirts of town. My burger came out perfect, but the same item ordered by my traveling companion was missing half its garnish. This little slip up cost them a star.

Food Chanel was right once again. Stopped at the West Rib Pub on the way back to Anchorage from Denali. I was pleased with the menu and beer choices. I had the fish and chips. They hit the spot especially since I was tired and hungry. Talkeetna was a welcoming town and I plan to return next summer to experience the white water rafting! You feel like a local at the West Rib Pub.

Thank you West Rib Pub for making my mom drunk! One Ice Axe is apparently all it takes. We stopped here for a beer on our way to Denali, like all good tourists do. Ice Axe is one of their popular beers and is pretty strong, 9%, but I didn't like it, it was too sweet. We also got fish and chips which were alright. It's a good place to relax after a longish drive and soak up some sun on the patio.
