This review is based on the sushi. It was delicious! Presentation was nice but they didn't go over the top decorating the sushi like I've seen in other sushi places I've been. I liked their Alaska roll, caterpillar roll (my favorite everywhere that makes good ones), and a crunchy tempura shrimp roll with unagi sauce (don't remember the name cause my brother ordered it). We also ordered the mango roll which was too sweet with a weird sweet sauce on top of the mangoes which in my opinion was not needed. But I'm sure some people might like it. Now for the decor. Very nicely decorated! I loved it! At least how it turned out on my camera ;) I will post more pics when I upload them to my computer in a few days. Staff was friendly and service was fast enough :) great place!

Sushi itself deserves 5 stars. The combo of not enough workers, sub par facility, and ok buffet bring Nikko to a solid 4 stars. Expect a wait even if there's not a lot of people. The sushi is really extravagant and tastes amazing but I almost feel like eating my napkins before it gets to the table! The service is very kind and worth the wait in all reality.

This place has some pretty good sushi. The place is a little old and the service is kind of slow since there is only 2 people working. Sushi chef and the waitress. If you have the patience to wait. The waitress is super nice and super funny. She had us laughing a lot. I am happy I tried this place out.

So, this is really two places, a standard Chinese buffet and a sushi bar. First, the buffet: Unlike some other establishments like this, these guys actually tend to their buffet. They make smaller batches and rotate them regularly, so you're not eating food that has been out since the day before. However, they sometimes don't have such a great selection. The cucumber kimchee is excellent, wish they had it all the time. I feel like if they focussed more on Korean food, which they clearly know all about, it would be a better experience as a whole. But it's Soldotna, and they have to make a living, so can't blame them for all the Chinese staples. As for the sushi: I am puzzled by some of the other reviews. This is not the absolute best sushi I have ever had but I have never experienced mushy or under-flavored sushi. I have also never experienced the poor service some other complain about. In fact, in both the buffet and the sushi bar I have always had my table bussed multiple times during a meal. Back to the sushi: the prices are reasonable, and the portions are good. The poke salad is a must-have for a starter. Like most sushi places there are a lot of choices on the menu. In my experience it has always been fresh and presented pleasantly. The decor, on the other hand, needs a total redo. Except for the fish tanks which are some of the most immaculate aquariums I have ever seen. (I keep fish myself, and I can't imagine how they keep these so perfect) As usual, you can skip the fortune cookie at the end secure the knowledge that it is noting special. On the whole a pleasant experience with decent food at a reasonable price.

We lived in Soldotna for 4 years and I ate here many times. The buffet is always fresh, the Soju cold. May not be everyone's idea of good food but I always liked it, the service was always good.

Nearly empty and yet terrible service. The waitress asked for our drink order and we asked for tea and menus. 15 minutes later she finally brought 1 menu, a pink piece of paper with rolls listed on both sides (without prices), and a bad photocopy of the original menu with a pen we were supposed to use to order. With very little description, assuming you already knew all about sushi, you might expect this place to serve high brow food to those in the know--it didn't. When we asked for the Spur Hwy Roll, the waitress said she thought that was one they were no longer making. She checked but then did not tell us so I had to ask again. She then rattled off several not available, many on that weird pink sheet. So what was the point of it? We wanted a boat but were not going to shell out $85-$120 without any description of inclusions or number and type of pieces. A while later, our Ika and Spicy Tuna Roll arrived with barely warm tea. No soup or salad. Very salty and mushy ground tuna with no spice. Ika was OK and I did like the little black roe on top. Wasabi was plentiful but the pickled ginger was an odd pink and they were stingy with it. After 20 minutes and no attention, the waitress finally told us we could check out at the front desk whenever we were ready. Um, we were still waiting on our Combination Sashimi! She said she would check on it and we ordered more tea. She finally brought more tea and said they both missed the main order and he would fix it for us now. 10 minutes later we finally got our food and it was not good: mushy and flavorless. The red snapper was OK but too firm, the salmon was low quality, the maguro was freezer burned and clear on the edges, and something we guessed was fatty tuna?? was old and grey. No more waitress. $55 with tip and received wrapped fortune cookies (with too much citrus) at check out. 1.5 stars is being generous.

best asian food in the peninsula. nowhere else can you get fresh sushi and a really extensive list of rolls that are pretty creative. add some sake and i'm golden. the chinese food is typical. the buffet is cheap, fast and a solid meal if you're in a rush. other things i've tried on the menu: kalbi is the best i've ever had, i've only had it once...it's usually sold out. next time i will call in advance to make sure they have it. every summer we go to the peninsula we make sure to come here.

Great sushi, nice indoor decor. They need to work on their service though. Our waitress was awful. She ignored us, it wasn't busy there, yet she managed to wait a half hour to come to our table to see if we needed drink refills or check up on us. My husband had to get up and ask the hostess to get our waitress to bring us some to go boxes after she continued to treat us like we were invisible. We would have liked to order dessert but she didn't ask or offer a dessert menu. The vibe that we received from the service was very unwelcoming. We let the hostess know that the sushi was awesome (which was true!) but the service sucked. Hopefully they'll work on their staff. That is just as important as the quality of the food.

i have to agree, this is one of the worse places to go for chinese food in the kenai area. the buffet has nothing edible here. decor is very '70ish and the place looks very unwelcoming at best.

Run by Korean owners who put their authentic Asian touch on everything that comes out of the kitchen. When I'm in Alaska, this is my Japanese/Chinese spot bar none! The salmon with jalapenos is absolutely unreal. It reminds me of luscious poke out of Hawaii only it's salmon. I could eat that dish all day everyday. If they'll make the clam soup for you, order that - I have never seen bigger clams in my life and the broth is surely the kind that's been simmer for hours if not days for that soothing texture and taste. Kung Pao halibut? Did they invent it? Cause they sure have the patent on it if you ask me. Nikko is grade A business in the A state of Alaska.

Nice large buffet and some interesting sushi rolls. I had the Nikko roll and instead of being wrapped in nori, they used a soy wrapper...and it was a pretty pink! Great service and nice people. Will go back to try some other offerings.

Excellent sushi!! We will coming back when we are Soldatna again! The inside of the restaurant was very clean with a nice decor. The owners were very nice. We loved our rolls. My husband says the Spur Highway Roll was awesome!

I had the buffet lunch. Price was good only $13 but seemed like all meat was tough. I tried about 5 different items plus a green salad and the salad was probably best item. The guy I went with got some sushi and his opinion was about the same. Doubt we will be going back. Service was terrible to and we were the only ones in there. Never even given refill on waters.

Had sushi here. Was surprisingly good. The rolls are huge. Probably the best sushi on the peninsula.

So so sushi and typical chinese food. Really, they are decent. Its not that bad, but its little spendy for the messy sushi rolls. I think that my experience at Wasabi's spoiled this a bit. But if you cant drive to Homer for sushi, it will do in a pinch. Bring on the sake!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
