Restaurant is really dark inside. Food was ok, particularly the steamed clam appetizer but overall highly overpriced. I had the spaghetti and asked for extra parmesan and without warning they charged us an extra .50 on our bill. Considering the meal already cost $16 it was pretty ridiculous.

I always take people here for a true iconic Alaskan breakfast and The Backdoor is the best sports bar in Kenai. Especially for Sunday football. Every TV has a different game on.

I love Louie's breakfast - can't get much better around here. The decor is warm and friendly - a little touristy with animal heads and pelts everywhere. Good service. Probably one of the top restaurants in town.

Louie's is only one of a handful of restaurants in Kenai, but I will say I am never disappointed when I go. The best Halibut and Alaskan King Crab I have ever had, hands down. It is a little pricey but it right on par with every other restaurant of its caliber. This is my favorite place in this area thus the 5 stars, at home it may get 4. The restaurant is located in a hotel (if you can really call it that, I would stay there), doesn't look like much on the outside but don't let that scare you. When you go in there is taxidermy covering the walls. So if you don't mind dead animals staring at you while you eat then you are good to go. :-) Staff is friendly, place is clean for Alaska, cabin/lodge feel. I heard breakfast is great so I am looking forward to going back for that! To be continued...

The best seafood! Razor clams, Clam chowder, Alaskan King crab, King Salmon, Halibut Fish and chips, Seafood pasta, all good! Great service too. Would highly recommend it.

This is my fourth time to Louie's and it keeps getting better. This place is located in Kenai and the decor is something you would find in a lodge: dark with lots of stuffed prizes on the walls. If you are a bread lover, like I am, the sourdough bread they bring out is incredible. The salads are just lettuce with croutons and onions, but what makes this salad delicious is the homemade dressings. I chose ranch, but tasted the blue cheese and honey mustard and they are all great. l, As mentioned by others, the clam chowder is to die for and is a must. It is homemade and features the freshest local clams. Because I couldn't decide what entree to order, my wife and relatives chose to share various choices so we could enjoy them all. First was the Halibut Oscar featuring steam asparagus, fresh king crab, and hollandaise sauce on grilled halibut. It was unbelievable. The halibut was fresh, light and mild but was so rich when covered with the hollandaise and king crab. Unlike other hollandaise, this sauce was fresh and light, and not heavy at all. It was a perfect compliment to the fish. The second selection was the fried prawns. Of course the prawns were fresh and they were hand battered and fried right before plating. The batter was light and crunchy and didn't consume the entire taste.Excellent. Last was the prime rib. The prime rib is choice and can be served rare to well. It was juicy, thick and available in 14, 18 or 28 oz. Served with au jus and horseradish. Very tasty. The King Crab Louie salad featured fresh lettuce and vegetables topped with King Crab and served with homemade thousand island. I should have came for lunch and ate this alone then came back for dinner and shared the others. For seafood and salad lovers, you can't miss an opportunity to try this very special salad. In summation, Louie's serves mouth-watering meals that will make you want to come back to Alaska just to eat here alone. The prices are high, BUT for the quality of the meals, it priced accordingly.

I was in Kenai and found myself needing things like food, shelter, BTU's! (do you realize just where in AK this place is? As others have said, there's not much else around.) The initial Louie's is pretty nice/quaint(insert appropriate descriptive word) however for those who show up a little later in the evening say....9:45pm, they direct you to the "back part" (as described by the waitress/hostess/owner/cook/bus-woman?) of this place goes by the title of............................ Well let me go bring up the expense report I had to sbumit....... Ah yes here it is, "BACK DOOR LOUNGE." Now, I know what your thinking. My boss was probably thinking the same thing......... "What exactly did you spend $112.06 on at The Back Door Lounge?" I of course put forth the obvious response of, "I don't recall..?" Long story short, the fact that there's not much to choose from does not in any way impact(well maybe a little) the rating Ive given this place as the Steak, Lobster tail, and various types of alcohol all seemed up to par. Just be warned....If you find yourself dinning there...be careful with that receipt afterwards....Some people may just misinterpret your whereabouts for something entirely different.
