Solid nachos. Good veggie burgers. Kind of well lit for a bar. The place is a genuine dive. But we liked the food.

Beer prices that will make you think you died and went to the lower 48! Seriously. $4.50 pints?! That's getting close to my Portland beer prices of old. Also a pretty decent tab list, I must say. No BMC here. (Bud Miller Coors for the non-snobs out there) This is a local Girdwood spot. The folks are friendly, and many of them know each other. That doesn't mean they aren't going to be friendly to you though! Service is pretty warm here. I ended up here for breakfast because Jack Sprat was closed for brunch due to construction. Thank science for backup plans! Food is customary diner fair with an Alaska twist (read: reindeer sausage). I got the classic B&E special (bacon and eggs). At night, it's the quintessential local watering hole. I'll be back.

Cool staff jamming great music. We had a killer lunch/breakfast. The egg breakfast with reindeer sausage was killer!! We also had the halibut sandwich. Best sandwich in a LONG time. Well done, crew!

Stopped here on the way from anchorage to Seward. Decent menu and beer selection. Atmosphere is a little hipster Brooklyn vibe. Very low key people and service. We got fish and chips to go, and it was decent (nothing earth shattering). I thought it was pretty expensive for a little eating spot in a tiny little town.

First trip back to Girdwood in 10 years and we stopped in at Silvertip Grill for lunch. This spot used to be a Chinese restaurant (remember the dirty goldfish tank?) but now it serves more traditional American fare (and the fish tank's gone). Ordered and split the tasty fish & chips and a caesar salad. Both were right on target at this unpretentious eatery. The service was prompt and friendly to this trio of travelers. Got the yummy bread pudding to go. It did survive the trip back along the super scenic Seward Highway to Anchorage, but once we got back to the hotel, it was gone. Take a slow day in Girdwood - and Silvertip is a great place to begin to ease off the RPMs.

Definitely a cool place to pop in for some breakfast or a drink. The bartender/server was a really nice guy who was very welcoming to us two outsiders. We both got breakfast sandwiches and while they were by no means spectacular, hey, they were good. Certainly did the trick. They are also open every day, which is nice as Girdwood is a sleepy town off-season, which is when we were there. If we ever return, I'll most definitely return to the Silvertip Grill.

A hole in the wall. Cool locals spot to grab a good beer. Games out back (horseshoes, cornhole, etc). Had breakfast here this morning. It was pretty good food.

Perfect place for breakfast! French Toast with yogurt granola and fruit was awesome.

One of the best places to eat in girdwood! Everyone needs to try it at least once!! I had the halibut sandwich and their burgers were great too! Staff was very friendly! And the environment was very calming! Highly recommend!

I've only been here once, but I really enjoyed the burger, onion rings and beer selection, and would definitely come back. Silvertip is not a fancy place. It is, as they say, divey, but I mean that in a good way. My burger was really good: half a pound of Angus beef, cooked perfectly and topped with super-crispy bacon and blue cheese. Mmmm. And the onion rings - some of the best I've had in a long time! Well seasoned, cooked perfectly, not even the tiniest hint of oil or grease. My friend and I both got those as sides to our burgers, and they were so good, we had to order another round. Beer selection was good, especially considering it's a small place, with plenty of local craft brews to choose from. Service was friendly, relaxed and attentive.

The atmosphere is laid back & friendly. The food is greasy & delish. The staff is super kind & patient. My only complaint?? Too small! They need way more real estate.

There's two things you need to know when you to Girdwood. 1. Everything moooooves a loooooooot slooooooooooower in Girdwoooooooooooood. 2. Everything is more expen$ive in Girldwood. Girdwood is an artsy hippy town, Alaskan style. It's pretty much heaven on earth. Picturesque, funky and fun, noone hurries in Girwood. So when you meander into the Silvertip, expect that your server will meander over whenever she darn well finishes kibbitzing with the locals, and your food will meander over whenever it's good and done. Meanwhile, you can sit and soak in the local flavor. That IS what you came to Alaska for, right? Oh good! We understand each other. Don't expect culinary greatness from the Silvertip. It's essentially a local watering hole that has ample hot sauce, crayons and pitchers of PBR. There's tons of TVs to watch the game, a smoking patio and clean bathrooms. Food is basic and tasty. The one surprise is variety of beers they carry. I got some of the best french fries I've had in a long time and some delicious corned beef and cabbage soup. We had our table for about 3 hours while we watched the game. Silvertip is just a good place to kick back and relax.

No cheese on the nachos, listened to the guy behind the bar talk about all his clothes being covered in yager stains or blood stains... Nice local color, but a definite building code nightmare and simply a greasy spoon. Had to get our own to go box.

Good homemade bar food. Very good homemade onion rings. Good hamburgers. Is a hole in the wall. Well stocked bar.

Cheap prices. Kindof divey. Well, honestly, pretty divey, but it was still enjoyable. Personable service. Great Alaskan beer choices. Burgers. It's not fine dining, but it's comfortable and welcoming.

My partner and I ate at Silvertip Grill over Labor Day weekend while we were visiting Girdwood, and overall we felt it was just a regular dive bar with cheap prices as you would expect. The inside is a bit cramped, and there's only about 10 tables to sit down. But the same time, this is a complete dive bar so that pretty much tells all you need to know about Silvertip Grill. There's a good number of beers on tap, and TVs throughout the restaurant to watch sports. It seemed to be filled with locals, so that's obviously a good sign. The food really wasn't anything to write home about - my partner had the burger and it was just stuff that I just been unfrozen and cooked. I had the crabcake sliders, and they were just average. If you just want some quick beers, Silvertip Grill is fine - but that's about it. There are better options for food in Girdwood, but the service was friendly and no major complaints!

We ate at the two main hot spots the double musky/chair 5 and this place top them both! We'll be coming back.

My favorite place in Girdwood. It's small, a little divey, and the best place to grab a beer for 30 miles. The bartenders are always friendly (Andrew is my favorite), and the service is always good (albeit it can be slowww if they are busy, as there's usually only one person working in the front). Beers are all local and decently priced. While for the most part, the food isn't spectacular, there are three things that are AMAZING: -the French toast. omg. -their potato salad...this is the only place I would substitute out French fries. -French Dip sandwich. This last being not just the best thing to eat at Silvertip, but quite probably the best French Dip I've EVER HAD. While I'm prone to hyperbole, this is just an honest assessment. Writing this makes me miss living in Girdwood. I may have to drive the 40 miles from Midtown tomorrow for a French Dip. Go to Silvertip. Drink good beer. Eat the best sandwich in the world (small exaggeration, maybe). Tip well.

Delicious! I have a milk allergy and they were very accommodating. I finally got to try reindeer sausage and it was amazing, the eggs were perfect and the breakfast potatoes were mouth watering. I highly recommend this place if you happen to be in the area.

The shrimp sliders with chipotle tartar sauce are fantastic. They're a special though and not on the regular menu - which is not fantastic. :-/ The service here is always good.

Finally, a great hamburger in Girwood. The onion rings and fries are frozen, but good quality. But I do not care, the burgers are cooked properly and have great, juicy flavor.

I would echo the word "divey," and I would add "homey and cozy." I had basic breakfast, highlights of which were reindeer sausage and toast from locally made bread. My plate also included "breakfast potatoes" of the frozen variety, with an orangey seasoning, prepared fine but not my favorite. My friend had reindeer sliders with cheese and was happy with them. French fries were good. Not a remarkable meal, but a pleasant one in a pleasant local place.

When my boyfriend suggested takeout from the Silvertip Grill, I was naturally skeptical. It's a hole in the wall, not the "go-to" spot in Girdwood, but I decided to take a leap of faith and try the reuben. After my first few bites, I understand my boyfriend's enthusiasm for Silvertip. It ain't fancy, but my sandwich was as good a reuben as you can find in New York. The french fries are absolutely perfect (and these were to go!). Having made a good impression, Silvertip enticed me to try breakfast a few days later. We went in nice and early, greeted by a largely empty dining room with a few people drinking beer at 9:30am... I'm hoping they were still up from the last night's festivities. I elected to try the breakfast sandwich on an English muffin: pork sausage, egg, and American cheese. Although breakfast sandwiches are hard to screw up, this one was particularly good. Not too large, bursting with flavor, and accompanied by a smattering of crispy breakfast potatoes. This is not the place for a healthy meal, but for a fine indulgence in well-done diner food, Silvertip certainly fits the bill.

These guys are consistently good. They know the beer I like, even though I probably only come in once a month. Their homemade soup is always good, especially on a cool day. The wait staff are friendly and efficient and the building funk reminds everybody this is a place with history. Thanks guys.

I went looking for Alaska, and I only gave myself 72 hours. What a goddamn fool. Fortunately, between the State Fair and the Silvertip Grill, I think I wound up doing okay. This little hole in the wall is situated five minutes off the well worn Turnagain Arm portion of Hwy 1 in the town of Girdwood. There's not much here, and I suspect the locals like it that way. The bar is a full service cozy dive, and we stopped in for breakfast. My biscuits and gravy were spectacular, and the wife dug her breakfast sandwich, too. The staff was uber friendly, and I have a feeling they're probably a lot of fun to drink with during those notoriously long winter nights. If you're traveling down the Alaska Highway and you need some grub, take the extra few minutes to find the Silvertip. It's pretty damn great.

Five stars just for using REAL AVOCADO on their sandwiches! You made this Californian's day after two weeks of eating wilted lettuce and white tomatoes. My wife says her sandwich was great too. But REAL AVOCADO! The food is awesome, the portions are huge, and the service is friendly - a rare combination in Alaska.

One of the worst service experiences ever. Only one server working tables and bar, long wait to order and over an hour to get the food.

I've been here a few times and although I like the idea the outcome leaves me wanting. The interior is a little dark, the ceiling looks like it is about to come down on your head, and the servers will come to you when they're good and ready. I came here and got the veggie wrap that came with a veggie burger, lettuce, red onion, with a tzatziki sauce. My partner got the BLT with apple smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, and added pesto sauce and avocado on white bread. Both sandwiches come with a choice of fries, onion rings, cole slaw, or potato salad; we both chose french fries. My sandwich didn't have enough sauce and while I can appreciate the homemade veggie burger the carrot was overwhelming as was the red onion. My partner's sandwich didn't come with the avocado, the slices of bread was over an inch thick, and the fries were very salty. There are good things, like the rustic old Alaskan feeling one gets upon entering, and there is a decent, well rounded, beer list.

The philly cheese steak sandwich on sour dough bread is wonderful especially accompanied with onion rings. Plenty of meat & melting cheese with onions, mushrooms, and peppers. Better than the philly cheese steak I had in Philadelphia. The breaded shrimp basket was also good. Skip the chicken fried steak. Not so tasty. It had a less than appetizing smell to it when it came out. Taste was less than par. However, good size portions with quick service staff.

I honestly can't think of anything bad to say about anything about Girdwood in general, but Silvertip Grill sticks out in my mind as very memorable because the people are so nice and friendly, the food was great, and they sell these wonderful little homemade stained glass ornaments that remind you of quirky Girdwood. We ate here several times during our stay and will definitely be back should the opportunity allow.

We were really hungry when we found this diner and were happy for warm food. We all ordered breakfast (pretty hard to mess up even in funky diners). However, hours after eating it left us feeling queasy (all 3 of us). Maybe the oil was off? Too much grease? The breakfast potatoes were hard and left in the fryer too long. Would not go there again.

Halibut wrap and salad was delicious. The space is a bit tight but service is great.

Pretty good but ordinary diner-type food, in an old, kind of ramshackle house. Wine and beer bar. Service is always quick and friendly, but prices are high ($10-14 for sandwiches + fries) for what you get.

Bookmarked this place based on John's review (THANK YOU!). A couple months ago I browsed the menu online and thought it sounded good enough to try. Hubby and I stopped in for a late lunch on Saturday. The decor had me thinking it would be kind of a greasy-spoon. There were a couple of tv's, a wii, and I overheard one of the staff mention they have karaoke too. The furniture is in very good shape but it's mustard vinyl chairs (pretty comfy though). Hubby used the restroom and I quizzed him as to its cleanliness. I checked out the ladies room for myself and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It was spotless and well taken care of. I grew up in Alaska and was expecting an old, kind of run down, not that clean restroom (not that everything here is like that, but based on the age of the rest of the furnishings I just wasn't sure what to expect). I was excited they had hot water! (yep, easy to please) All of that said, once our food arrived we were completely sold on the place and will definitely go back. I ordered the battered shrimp basket that came with fries. Their fries are super crisp & fresh, lightly seasoned and perfect. Especially when it's 30° and snowing outside. There were about 8 butterflied battered shrimp lined up around the outside of the basket, but after eating a couple of fries I found 4 more shrimp! Generous portion. Hubby ordered the teriyaki chicken sandwich and subbed a salad instead of the regular choices of potato salad, coleslaw, or fries. The chicken looked so appetizing! Piping hot, nice big piece of lettuce, and fresh soft bun (not your regular run of the mill hamburger bun). The "side" salad could have almost been a meal in itself. It had fresh, beautiful mixed greens, sprouts, red onion, cucumber, and at least a handful of grape tomatoes. The staff was very friendly and provided great service. Attentive, but not bothersome. There were 4 other tables of people dining while we were there. Some had kids, others were just meeting buddies for a beer. This is definitely not what I was expecting from a little restaurant/bar in Girdwood. Great all-around place. thanks John!

Had lunch there the other day. I had the chicken fried steak with reindeer sausage gravy, my wife had the chili. The food was fine, but nothing special. I felt like we did not get our money's worth.

Best beer battered halibut sandwich in Girwood. Pair it with a cold Alaskan White Ale and you have the perfect meal after a day of skiing Alyeska!

We chose to eat at the Silvertip because Double Musky was closed and someone recommended it. There is only a few parking spots in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is small and feels more like a neighborhood bar. There is two levels of seating and a bar. All together I counted five four seater tables, one six seater for a larger family, and I think five stools at the bar. We ordered two burgers which were good. They were big and cooked as we requested. We also ordered french fries and onion rings. The french fries were good and plentiful but We only received four or five rings and they are not the larger rings. The price was comparable to any other restaurant in Anchorage. I would purchase another burger and fries from the Silvertip but I will order it to go.

Okay...you need to know about this place. When you find yourself in Alaska, and in the Anchorage Bowl, you will always hear about certain restaurants in the area, and the demand for you to try them. (I know this because I do it!) Well...I have one that you are just going to have to try. Down the road from Anchorage, (actually about 27 miles, a short distance in an Alaskans eyes) is a sweet little town, that both time and the rush of life has missed. Thank-heavens!!! This little Town's name is Girdwood. It isn't much, a small town in a huge state, with some of the nicest and most decent people you will find on earth. Now I know this review is for Silvertip, but I bring this up for a reason. In Girdwood is a place by the Name of "Double Musky", a world class, expensive, high faluten but great restaurant. You got the cash, they will treat you well, and give you a good meal in a World Class restaurant manner. Otherwords, professional, well orchestrated and so-on. If you are a working man/woman like me, (man), then you are going to want to try the Silvertip, period. I'll tell you why. You will get a well prepared meal, at a good price, and the ambiance is so perfect, it hurts. Silvertip is a small but cozy place located right off the main road into town. It is not an expensively built building, and the decor is not "posh" it is ALASKAN! But this is about the food. You all know my "Quest" for the "Ultimate" Burger, and I am so pissed at myself for not trying this place before, because in the Burger World, they SCORED! Now if they can score with the simplest of foods, (as they did) there is no doubt what they can do with the rest of their menu. I have attached the website, which gives you the menu, so you can get an idea of what they serve. I gave Silvertip 4 stars, and I will wait, but I know I will give them a 5th, (they deserve it), but I have to be fair and try something else off the menu. I am thinking I will sneak in for a breakfast, they open at 9:00 am, and then a dinner, and I will update you all. I have to admit the service was laid back, but I got to watch these folks work, and they were hard working, obviously honest in their efforts to please their customers. There is a Beer List, that for a small place will astound you! And there is a very capable and nice wine list for your meals. So...lesson learned today? Try the Silvertip Grill when in Alaska, take in some local fare while there, and enjoy a well prepared and honestly priced meal. Update soon..

Had breakfast here at Silvertip with the girlfriend unit and another couple about ten days ago. It was very busy (the town was full of young hippies because of forest fest), and the waitress was a bit frazzled and could have spared / faked a smile now and again... However, with that said, we had a yummy breakfast and were very glad we went. My GF is an egg snob - if it isn't cooked perfectly she isn't satisfied...and Silvertip definitely satisfied. I really enjoyed my breakfast - I had the Chicken Fried Steak with Reindeer Sausage Gravy and a couple of eggs with some great local sourdough bread. The potatoes were nice as well. Not my usual fare, but I wanted to try something that had a touch of local Alaskan flavor and it didn't disappoint. I wouldn't have changed a thing...like I said - very yummy - we were well satisfied....and if I lived there it would probably be my favorite breakfast spot for sure.
