Very good food, fun atmosphere, a pretty comfy place for the tired traveler. The best part to me was when I asked for a plastic fork to take with my to-go box (way too much food in one portion!!!!), the waitress told me she was very sorry, but they didn't have any because they had been doing a lot of packaging of food for the firefighters. Well done, Big Daddy's, for supporting the firefighters in a particularly dry year!!!

Not so great. The beef brisket was very fatty and cold and the mac and cheese was cold as well. The creamed corn was good but so hot that it wasn't edible for the first five minutes it was at the table. What's with this place and not being able to get temperatures right? The service was about as "blah" as the food and the building seemed to be in a state of disrepair. Very few if any redeeming qualities here to speak of.

I'm not sure there's a better barbecue place in Fairbanks, or maybe even Alaska. But there are better places in the lower 48, so your point of comparison will be critical. People argue as much about what is the best barbecue as any food. This is especially tricky considering there are so many different types of barbecue. I had burnt ends to start. My waitress said they were excellent. They were fine, but I don't consider them burnt ends. They were cubes of meat heavy in sauce. There was no bark, and they were soggy. Not bad. Just not what I expect. I followed that up with a brisket sandwich which was also okay, but not outstanding. Unfortunately, I now live near a barbecue place that does excellent brisket, so Big Daddy's suffers by comparison. My waitress was excellent. Portions were okay. I'm not fan. But not a bad meal. A-Okay. Some barbecue purists are going to be very disappointed. Others will find the lightly smoked meat and sauce delicious. I'm glad I came, but if you're picky about your Q, think twice. One funny thing. My bill came in an American Express bill holder. When I gave them my AmEx card, they said they don't take AmEx.

If you are some what familiar with BBQ, don't bother wasting your money. Even Applebee does it better. Walked in starving, ordered pig out platter, took a few bite and we head straight to another restaurant to fill our belly. Can't even finish our beer in this hot summer. The two pieces of white toast looking thing is actually dried chicken breast. Pulled pork have a rather interesting seasoning that reminds me of Indian food. Brisket and ribs are both dried like jerky, no glazing on it what so ever. The best part is the sausage. I am not sure if there are any other BBQ place in town, but if there are I sure hope it is better than this one.

Food was decent, price is good for the portion size. We walked in while they were preparing 500 meals for the local firefighters battling the 200 plus forest fires in the area so that was a big plus. Not sure there are a lot of options for bar-b-q in Alaska, supposedly this is one of the best but I have no other Alaskan bar-b-q to compare it to. Beers were good and local, great selection, staff is friendly.

A hidden treasure of Fairbanks! Great variety of draft beer, full bar, friendly staff, clean and good environment. The fried pickles and beef tips appetizers were delicious. I wish I would've found this place before now.

This is the best bbq place in fairbanks. Me and my husband always come here. It's a bit pricy but the dishes are very large and we always have left overs for the next day. Their ribs are amazing chicken too. We usually get the pig out platter and share it and still have left overs. The service is good most of the time but sometimes the waiters forget to do refills and if we need more napkins or the check we always need to call on someone because they don't check up on you. But the food is great!!

Well, we continue our Triple D restaurant visits. Kinda wish we didn't. Steer clear of the ribs, dry and silver skin was left on. The pulled pork was a little better. I liked the Mac and Cheese side. The noodles were just done and the cheese was tasty. The Brunswick stew was very heavy with potato. The dirty rice had some spice, pretty good. Moral- if you want great BBQ go to the south.

As a man from Kansas who has travelled extensively in the South and eaten most forms of BBQ this meat is sub-par. I hazard to guess it wasn't even made outdoors with real wood. It had the slight smoke ring typically made by a 'smoke bomb' in a gas grill or oven. This is the brisket I'm talking about. The meat was fatty and fell apart which indicates too much time in the heat. My companion, a native of Texas, declared her pulled pork as 'okay' but I suspect that is just Southern manners showing through. The sauces were limpid and uninspired and frankly, too sweet to be called Southern style. Ambiance was fine but the service was hurried and lacking warmth.

  • Denise B.

Service is very slow, onion rings and burgers were burnt. Don't recommend this place.

If you're from The South or have eaten BBQ in the South, Kansas City, Texas, heck anywhere they know how to cook meat, use caution coming here. This is a perfect example of the Travel Channel running out of superb culinary experiences and simply hitting as many restaurants as they can. In town to fish, we gave Big Daddy's an honest try and were thoroughly disappointed. The location is perfect and the wait staff is attentive and wonderful, as are the TVs surrounding the casual atmosphere, but the food is below average, except for the smoked sausage, which was good. Feel free to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, but I have been almost every quality BBQ spot in the country. This isn't one of them. This is on par with Rib Country, a well known small chain in GA/NC. I'm sorry to be negative because I know this place gets a lot of publicity, but YELP is for honest reviews and I'm not about to my credibility on this one. My friend John and I ordered the BBQ sampler, so we could taste all of these legendary meats, so we were told. All of the meats lacked any flavor and tasted like someone took a practically dehydrated the meat. It was bone dry (the ribs, pork tenderloin, brisket and pull pork). The smoked chicken was bland and not as dry, but dark close. Brunswick Stew was ok. And, please if you are going to advertise sweet tea, let it resemble it a little bit. McDonald's has better sweet tea. Hands down, if you're from the West Coast and a tourist (or from another country) you might think it's average BBQ, but lower your expectations, because it isn't legendary and the biggest downfall are the sauces. Brutal! You'll end up eating the garlic bread to fill up, like I did.

Great ribs, great wings! Beans were great! Service was fantastic! Don't believe the other reviewers! I don't know what the hell is wrong with them. I'm from the South and have eaten a lot of BBQ. This is as good as you will find there.

We had a day in Fairbanks on a recent vacation. How do you even decide what restaurant to hit for lunch when you're a tourist that knows absolutely nothing about Fairbanks (and there are 7 of you in a group)? Well, we asked some locals who directed us to Big Daddy's. Big place, full of people eating, lots of staff milling about keeping people happy. We all enjoyed it and agreed we would go back. Like some other reviews state, the sauce options seemed a bit odd (trying to be all things instead of being great at one thing). Our waitress was smoking hot so that helped too :)

    (4)
  • Janine P.

I personally am not impressed with the sauces or the barbecue here, tried the sampler and really only enjoyed the brisket out of everything on it. The waitress was not very friendly or personable either.

  • Frannie R.

This is a down-to-earth place with GREAT BBQ. Our service was fabulous and lived our server. She went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were met. She was witty and fun to chat with. It's a busy place but we were seated right away. Spectacular melt in your mouth brisket, sausage, and chicken. The ribs were yummy but didn't fall off the bone. Cocktails were excellent! Wish I lived near so I could be a regular :)

  • Joan S.

Please consider I'm from Missouri home of Famous Kansas City BBQ so I suppose I expected too much from our dinner. It filled the void --- that's the best I can say.

  • Bob C.

Clean place. Amanda, our waitress was great...she gave good recommendations. My St Louis style ribs were moist and tasty. The onion rings and beans were great. The Texas toast was awesome! The beef brisket sandwich was tasty, but a tad bit dry. They had a limited selection of sauces. They were just ok...but if they had a great sauce....this place would knock it out of the park! So far this is the BEST BBQ in ALASKA! We will return.

    (4)
  • TJ H.

OK BBQ place. They always seem to forget drinks or appetizers and when we got our meals the brisket wasnt what i thought it would be. I think we will be trying other places in the future

I'd been here once before and was pleased with the food and service, but this time, it wasn't so good. I'd had the pork and burnt ends before with okra. It was all good, but the burnt ends were too saucy and sweet for me. The pork was wonderful, though. This time, I just wanted a couple beers and a little snack. It was early on a Friday evening and the place was packed. There was only one bartender, and he was swamped. He was friendly, but too busy to give anyone good service. The selection of local brews was minimal. I had a small side of brisket. Tender, but flavorless and very fatty. I left disappointed.

  • Chris D.

I've eaton here twice now so if it was no good I would have only eaten here once. That being said; They have good BBQ food but not a lot of choices of BBQ sauce. Or at least I wasn't offered many. They had an old six pack carton with about three different types in it, not one being anything to do with Whisky or wood. I choose the sweet BBQ sauce as it seamed a best choice. The ribs I had on my last visit was a little dry but still okay. They had lots of meat on them but it was like they cooked them too fast as the meat wasn't falling off the bone but yet dry like it was cooked too much. The atmosphere is typical sports bar with a TV in every direction you look and more noise than I like but normal for a place like this. The prices seemed far, the beer was cold and the BBQ was just okay. I'll probably go back again someday I'm sure.

Are you hungry or do you want good BBQ? As a restaurant, this place is good for 4 stars. It is a decent place to grab a bite. Especially in Fairbanks. The ambiance has character. The wait staff was OK and the prices were reasonable (for AK). But... There are rules that govern the BBQ universe. when you put 'Big Daddy' and 'BBQ' in your title, you're no longer just a simple restaurant... Now, you're striving to be a BBQ place. And that means you're subject to a higher standard. Using that standard, you're only a 3. I chose to give you a 4 because I was at the tail end of a 13 day cruise and your menu did temporary fill by BBQ deficit. Shame you didn't have tortillas on the menu (seriously, you'll only understand this if you live in TX)... I digress... Y'all really need to send your pit master to Texas this winter for a couple of weeks. You guys are close. Very close. But you're just not quite there. The brisket tasty - with good smoke rings - but had the flavor associated with oven prep - it lacked that the smokey punch and bark. Disclaimer: I live in Dallas and I use to live in Austin. My in-laws are from NC. So, I am an equal opportunity pork / beef / poultry / fish kind of guy. I appreciate different styles. I eat my BBQ at fancy places. I eat my BBQ at dives. I eat my BBQ out of 55 gallon drums, fancy green eggs, and pits built out of cinder blocks.

Food was decent.. A little overpriced. We ordered a bottled beer and it was warm. No a/c so it was a little hot. Overall average.

Hands down. The best BBQ n Fairbanks. Great Customer service, generous portions, responsible prices, and amazing food. I'm super happy and a little fatter.

Love this country / texas bar! It gave us a feel for home. We came here on a snowy night and walked just a couple blocks from our hotel. It was super nice and the service was great. The food was amazing we got beef brisket, mac n cheese, texas toast and much more! It was all delicious but the beef brisket and texas toast weren't very warm. Otherwise we love BBQ so we were happy to find this place. Next time we go back to Fairbanks we will definitely stop here!

We waited over an hour and never got our food. We ended up leaving because the kids were starving. It's too bad cuz it smelled pretty good. Guess we won't be back there anytime soon. The service was just too slow.

  • Angela M.

Coming from the south and living in NC, I know good barbeque and unfortunately, this place doesn't deliver. Additionally, the chicken is extremely dry, I ended up throwing mine away. I do enjoy the sauces, but the meat was a disappointment. I went a few months ago and I cannot remember the name of what I got, but is was basically a huge sampler of ribs, chicken, etc. I did have great service though. However, I will not return after my introduction to their dry meat :(

  • Sean G.

$1.75 for corn on the cob and $10.95 for a "brisket" sandwich that was 93.7% fat. Never again!!

  • Myke C.

I would probably give this place only 3 stars in Texas, but this is Alaska for crying out loud, so they get an extra star for being the furthest BBQ north. Mustard sauce is good, but the spicy sauce was just ok. The brisket was pretty tasty, good pink smoke ring, not too dry, surprisingly good. In fact if I were to rate this place on just that it would get a solid 4.5. Sides were weak, potatoe salad bland and service was Bahamas slow. Pulled pork was good, chicken was a bit over done. Would I go back yes, would I write my momma about it, no.

    (4)
  • Anu M.

Getting your bbq fix. The bbq chicken is huge HUGE. Beer is alright. Good for meat lovers. The sides are meat heavy too.

  • Jelani A.

I was skeptical of a southern barbeque joint in Fairbanks because, let's face it, Fairbanks ain't known for its southern barbeque. Maybe barbeque moose or caribou or bear but that a different cafe. This place does it right. I feel like I'm back in the south when I walk in Big Daddy's and then disappointed when I step out because, you know, Fairbanks. Tuesdays are dollar rib nights which seem to be the most popular night. The staff is friendly. The food is good. It's totally worth it and get a T-shirt shaped like a barbeque bottle on your way out.

  • Phil A.

okay this was a tough one I gave it 3 stars, but it was almost a 4. I tried the baby back ribs and indeed the meat falls off the bone. Unfortunately all of the appetizers are fried, however this is the barbecue place. After all. Nice atmosphere, great music. I probably will be back!

    (3)
  • Jon N.

not quite sure what the negative reviews are about. pretty good lunch here. 1/2 rack of baby back ribs, beans and dirty rice. place was pretty full, ribs were tender. The sauces weren't great and no this isn't a top 5 in the entire world BBQ place, but well worth stopping in.

I wanted to try this place after meeting the owner one afternoon at creamers field. I can say I was very happy with the brisket. It was very good and was definitely the highlight of our meal. We had the sampler platter with a bit of everything to try. I did like the chicken, but really enjoyed the brisket. The pork, sausage and ribs were cooked well and not dry. I'm not a bbq sauce fan but the sweet was a hit at our table. The beans had a nice little kick to them but the potato salad was one side we should have passed on. It had way to much onion or celery in it and it overpowered the potato. We got to the restaurant for an early dinner to watch the football game. The service was good, parking was easy and there was no wait for a table. The timing could have been why nothing was too dried out as some other reviews had reported. I would definitely go back for the brisket.

    (3)
  • Derek W.

The fries were really good, but the ribs were the toughest ribs I have ever tasted. They were like chewing on beef jerky. The waitress had a negative attitude. I won't be going back. Bad to the bone is a little bit better, but for the best Ja-robs has the most flavorful and authentic barbeque in Alaska.

Gave them a 10 minute heads up for a large group and they handled it like pros. Food was great

    (4)
  • Shannon M.

I have ate here a few times and I'm not sure what changed but recently the service has taken a nose dive and they won't allow you to substitute on the pig out platter. Which sucks since that is the only reason my family came here. The pulled pork is good, but the ribs, pork loin, and chicken are awful! And their sides are 2.25 a piece! I think I'll stick to tubby's BBQ I'm very disappointed

  • Loren R.

Well, how do you rate barbecue in alaska, Being a seasoned traveller, I've found that it is in general, not a good idea to expect good salmon in florida, good sushi in omaha, and steak and or meat in alaska. This place is the exception, It is clearly five stars for fairbanks, but I try to give stars based on my experiences around the country, have I had better meat,...yeah, the cows were walking around a few miles from the place. It's all about the food: all I had was the barbecue, shredded on their signature bed of corn pancake. I came back for more the next week. Fairbanks is hard pressed for good eating out experiences, from the seasonal workers, to being so far from the food source. If you want hands down the best, juciest, most flavorful, falling apart meat north of juneau ( the whole state) go here. Not even anchorage has barbecue this good in my opinion.

  • Frank S.

We went on $1-A-Rib Tuesday which was a delightful surprise. The ribs were well smoked and the Carolina sauce was on point with any BBQ place in the lower 48. The service was not only fast & great, but very informative of the whole Fairbanks area, as this was the first restaurant we went to as we arrived in town. Prices were reasonable for drinks and food - my wife and I got out of there under $40 (not including tip)

    (4)
  • Tom D.

Ribs were dry as fuck and tasted like they had been cooked a week ago. Yikes. Service was meh. All hype from the TV show and no substance. I'll never go back.

    (2)
  • Christopher S.

Place was good but not great. Went with a group and we all ordered a bunch of things to split and try. All in all no one said wow, just "that was alright." Service was nice and pleasant which made the experience good. Though I wish the meat was softer and juicier. BBQ sauce was on par with higher tasting store bought BBQ. Price was good how we did it sharing multiple items.

Just went here last night; the food was actually pretty good. I got the spare ribs and chicken quarter, both were tender and very juicy so no complaints from that perspective. The reason they only got three stars is due to their service. It was quite horrible. There was no hostess, so we stood there confused as to wether it was self seating or not. Once I flagged down a waitress she told me someone would be by to seat us. Five minutes later we get a booth, mind you there are waitresses walking past us and ignoring us. No one said: "Have you been helped?" or anything. After we sat down, the service did not improve; it took forever to get our food and our waitress was never anywhere to be found. Ultimately I would get food from here again, but purely on w take out basis.

Finally made it to big daddys after everyone telling me how good it is.. I am disappointed, ribs had no flavor and super dry!! Hamburger had no spices not even salt. Prices were ok but next time I will just BBQ at home.

We ate at this place with a group of friends while on vacation in Alaska and we were just looking for a good place to eat. Someone said they ate here and it was awesome!! So we took their word for it (ignored the reviews) and totally Loved the food. We are all from SoCal and we love a good BBQ. The ribs were great but the pulled pork was killer good. We all kind of got the same stuff and all 5 of us loved it. Our waitress couldn't have been any nicer and more attentive. If I lived in Fairbanks, I would definitely be a regular @ Big Daddy's. It was busy so I think that can tell you the food is good!!! So enjoy next time your in Fairbanks!!!

Not too bad pulled chicken, price was good and very comfortable place to eat and socialize.

We live in Fairbanks and have eaten here on several occasions. The service is routinely bad and tonight was no different. My husband ordered iced tea unsweetened and our server got it right the first time but after asking for a refill she filled his glass with sweet tea. She corrected it when informed of her mistake. We've always had good good which is why we come back. Tonight my husbands rubs and my sins brisket were good but my pulled pork was cold. We will be trying another barbecue place before coming back.

  • J G.

Probably one of the worst Burgers I've had, very dry, overcooked, service was ok, prices were average for Alaska, stiff drinks ;) Hubby was not impressed with his rack of ribs.

  • Howard M.

We ate here twice while in Fairbanks. This please was featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives (Go Guy!) The first time, I ordered a brisket sandwich and it was very good (Four stars). We had to kill some time before going to the airport so we dropped in and ordered appetizers. We ordered burnt ends.... I have never had anything soooooooooo bad in my life. We all thought they were rib ends. Trying to find the waitress (a challenge in the evening) she assured me they were burnt ends (they weren't even well done). I am not a wings person, but my boss did really enjoy his wings. So, I am in the middle about my review, hence the three stars.

  • Robert P.

I would say this is the best BBQ that I have had in Fairbanks. Sothern woodshed atmosphere and a full bar. Good menu but the service can be slow. The last few times I was there they had only two waitresses covering the whole dining room. The bartender would come out and help when she could, but it was still slow for the lunch rush.

    (3)
  • Nathan T.

It was ok BBQ. The service was slow. We ate there on a Wednesday afternoon. The restaurant was mostly empty and still it took a long time for our drinks and food to arrive. The next time we come to fairbanks I don't think we will eat here.

    (3)
  • Randy J.

Being from central Texas, I was looking forward to some good brisket. Well, this is not that place. I had the brisket plate with creamed corn and onion rings. The brisket was dry and had no flavor. The onion rings were either burnt or so old they were like gold trailings. My creamed corn was so temperature hot it scorched the inside of my mouth. However once cooled down they had a good flavor, which was the only thing good on my plate. Our waiter was extremely pushy and only interested in "turning tables". If this is the same restaurant that Guy Feiri visited, then where is the cook he saw? Obviously not the one who cooked my food! Sadly disappointed.

    (2)
  • Melissa K.

Take out the other night ... mac and cheese, beef brisket, pulled pork, cole slaw. The food was hearty and filling but was not especially outstanding. The pulled pork and beef brisket were very dry; the cole slaw was standard; and the mac and cheese was bland. With that said, I did like the plentiful hot sauce that was provided!! I'm not going to lie-- I was disappointed by the food because I've heard lots of positives about it from the community. Will I eat at the restaurant? Maybe. Possibly. We'll see.

    (3)
  • Dionne N.

I go here at least twice a week. Food is great ( I recommend trying the creamed corn-it's delicious!) Service is stellar. If you want to be treated right and enjoy great barbecue, this is the place to go!

Tried this place my first night in Fairbanks, I was not impressed. The service was terrible! We waited 10-15 mins just to be seated, and there were available tables. We had to ask if someone was going to seat us, after numerous waitresses walked by without acknowledging we were waiting. We ordered fried pickles for starters, after 35 mins of not receiving our app we asked the waitress what was the delay. She went to the kitchen and then I saw her key an order in, and within 8 mins....voila! 43 mins for fried pickles!? Which leads me to believe she forget to put the order in to begin with, her excuse was the tables that were seated after us were pushed in ahead of our order. Although, we ordered before they were seated......you be the judge. Anyway, soon after we received our food.... I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs with BBQ beans and cole slaw. The best thing on the plate were the beans. The ribs were pretty dry, and the cole slaw was mediocre. Sorry but Big Daddy's just didn't do it for me.

We stop here to have dinner my wife ordered a beef brisket sandwich that was almost half fat. By the time you trim the fat off, over three-quarters of the meat was gone. They did comp the sandwich.

  • Patrick L.

I'm from Seattle and am visiting for work. I felt like meat, and this place fit the bill perfectly!! The baby back ribs were the most meaty and lean I've ever had. EVER. My server, Sarah, was adorable and super pleasant. She was OK with me staying as long as it takes to finish my giant rack. The Mac and cheese side was great! I am usually weary of restaurant Mac and cheese but I really liked it. I thought the coleslaw could have a bit more punch. But for the masses, it was perfectly acceptable. If you feel like meat and don't know where to go, come to big daddy's.

Stopped here while in Fairbanks. Food was ok, they had a good variety of beers. I would probably go back if ever in the mood for BBQ in Fairbanks.

    (2)
  • Kalani C.

3.5 stars. Had the Beef Brisket sandwich combo with collard greens & baked beans (3 stars). The brisket was lean & flavorful, but dry, requiring a request for a side dipping of au jus to moisten things up and only then everything came together nicely. Beer selection (4.5 stars) is pretty stellar at 19 brews on tap & Coors Light and Miller Light only occupying two. When you got a multitude of better Alaskan beer, sticking to the real deal is always best. Staff pleasant and helpful with driving directions: 3.5 stars. Tally: Beef Brisket: 3 stars Beer selection: 4.5 stars Service: 3.5 stars Ambiance: 3 stars 3+4.5+3.5+3= 14/4= 3.5 stars.

Was going to have a steak down the street but they were closed so I stepped into Big Daddy's to get my protein fix. I had the brisket plate with collards and mac & cheese. The brisket was good but lacked smokiness. No smoke ring that I could see. The mac and cheese was nothing to write home about but the collards were great. Make sure to get some pepper vinegar for the greens. I got a piece of the Peanut Butter Cream Pie to go which was truly the highlight of my meal. It was a nice looking restaurant overall, but I felt like I had to work to get the bartender's attention. I will probably go back this week and give it another shot. It is BBQ in Alaska so my standards aren't really high.

Consistently the WORST service in Fairbanks, and the food is nowhere near good enough to make up for it. Sad to see the place go downhill so badly. It was a lot better a few years ago.

I enjoy this place... but I wish there were more options for Good BBQ in Fairbanks. I do not feel disappointed when I eat here, but sometimes I long for those places that just make my mouth water when I think of it. Just so you know I have eaten here maybe a dozen time in five years. So I do keep coming back, but just slowly.

One star for service and one for the moose nuggets. The rest was disappointing. Good starter with the Moose Nuggets, ie hush puppies; 6 total with a delicious honey dipping sauce. I dabbed my fork in the honey, grabbed a nugget, and then slathered it in BBQ sauce; good flavors. This was where the good food ended. Their "award winning" beef brisket was so disappointing especially after hearing the hype. When it came to our table, it only came with three slices of brisket. And then to top it off, it tasted like it looked: dry. Like it had been sliced yesterday. Definitely not worth the $18 spent on it, even with the two sides and "Texas toast," ie a thick slice of soft French roll toasted. I was pretty floored we only got 3 slices of meat; I'm guessing it was only 6-8oz of meat total. The mac n cheese was ok...and the cole slaw needed salt n pepper to salvage it, but complimented the meat thankfully. The BBQ sauces were tasty and helped save the brisket, sorta. The hot BBQ sauce isn't that hot, adding just enough heat after you down it. The combo of sweet BBQ sauce with the hot BBQ sauce was a good mix. The waitress was attentive, friendly, and brought drinks promptly; too bad not much else was as enjoyable. All of this on a Saturday night too. Would love to taste what the actual award winning brisket should taste like.

Found this place on good ol' Yelp. I was amazed on how good their BBQ was here, for being in Alaska. Nice portions and nice friendly service would bring us back again !

Went here one night after hearing it was on DDD and when we found the pizza place we wanted was closed. I had the Pig Out platter, which basically includes a bit of everything they have. Overall, the food was on the low side of the mediocre to decent. The pulled pork had a nice flavor, but was a tad dry. The chicken was good, but kind of plain. The sausage tasted like a simple store bought kielbasa. The brisket was terrible...it was fatty and flavorless. The pork loin was good, although it just tasted like a grilled slice of ham. The side of fried okra was good, and the collard greens were tasty enough (although they include a bunch of meat in them). The place is big and can accomodate a large group and they do banquets I believe. The food was fair, but overpriced ($31 for the pig out platter, although to be fair, 2 people really could eat it easily). Service was friendly.

We had the chicken & rib and brisket for dinner. Ribs tasted great and brisket was decent.

Brisket was tender and moist. The moose nuggets were good but spicy. My wife loved her chicken and the creamed corn side. The best meal we had in Fairbanks.

We had dinner at Big Daddy's a couple of weeks ago with another couple. They had read some reviews and saw that Big Daddy's was on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so we had to try it. I failed to ask if they had checked Yelp...first mistake! We went to the satellite location, apparently - Big Daddy's South or West or something, but I can only assume it is the same place food-wise. Young, cute waitress...she was nice. Atmosphere.... definitely low rent dive, but we expected that. As long as they deliver the goods and don't misrepresent the environment, I could care less. The problem is they didn't deliver the goods so I found myself sitting in a dump eating average food. Meh. Taste was decent. Ribs were very very dry - even after adding sauce...which was ok.... 3 choices for sauce...none stood out as particularly good...not sure how they won a contest. Everyone agreed they were pretty disappointed. Maybe I've been spoiled by Phil's Ribs here in San Diego, but Big Daddy's didn't cut the mustard.

Ever lived down south and had Dickey's BBQ? Gross, huh? Well Big Daddy's is the same. We ordered the big plate with all the goodies on board and the only thing I actually liked was the sausage. That isn't saying much. The worst was the Carolina BBQ- so completely flavorless. And why? It's a few ingredients that are easy to come by. How is THAT lacking flavor? And for the price, it was horrific. I feel bad for Alaskan's who have never tasted good BBQ. AND- what is UP with the music here? BBQ calls for country or rock. NOT Beach Boys. So disappointed.

It's not a gimmick, it's not just good enough, or good for being located WAY north of the Mason-Dixon line... IT'S REALLY FRICKIN' GOOD! I know, I'm from Miami and Miami doesn't count as part of the south so how can I tell good Bar-B-Que when I taste it? Well, I promise you, I'm a Bar-B-Que fan, and know good stuff when I smell it, let alone taste it, and Big Daddy's is the good stuff. And the fixins (sides) were really good too. I went with a group and we all got different stuff, and it was all good. But my favorites included the brisket and the collard greens. AND THEY SERVE COKE IN GLASS BOTTLES! Can it get better?

Best decision of our Fairbanks visit was to have lunch here. Best pulled pork I have had in years. Brisket smoky goodness. Greens outstanding, with some kick built in. The recipes here have some gumption and originality, which is highly commendable... It is so easy with barbecue to just take the safe route. Check it out.

I was disappointed in the Baby Back ribs. They were too dry and stringy. My friend enjoyed her short ribs, however. They were moist and tender and flavorful. As for the sides, the cole slaw was tasty but with a little too runny, the fried okra was great and the collards not bad, but the potato salad was outstanding with just the right amount of mayo and a hint of dill. If you have room, we all recommended the bread pudding for dessert.

The wait staff is matter-of-fact. Had brisket sand-which and slaw and o rings. Great to eat all 3 in successive bites, along with the occasional perfectly sour pickle and swig of beer to round it out. Got the Glacier brewhouse IPA. This place hit the spot as a mid-afternoon late lunch / early dinner. Ate there twice in as many days.

Being from the south I have to admit that this is damn good BBQ. I enjoy there moose nuggets and the Carolina platter, Not a big pancake under my meat fan though still good and the beer is cold!! My family of 5 go here very family friendly and Price about right too.

The place has such great reviews online I was really looking forward to trying it. It started with poorly cooked wings appetizer and a capt n coke that was 75/25 Bacardi n water! The waitresses were friendly though inattentive at 4pm with few other patrons. Thinking the brisket is what they're known for I ordered a coke and tried it. It was 1/3 pure fat!! The meat on the rest was dry and mediocre flavor. The decor was great the location great in downtown Fairbanks and the waitresses were indeed friendly. But this place wouldn't make anyone's top ten Cue in LA, SF, or LA. Maybe the steakhouse place will be better.

Supposedly Big Daddy won some statewide BBQ competition in 2008. And then he passed away shortly after. No, not really, but judging by the quality of the food we had at Big Daddy's something must have drastically changed since 2008. Since we've been eating in Alaska I'd say that the prices here per portion were a good deal and that the service was okay. But for some reason I just couldn't quite get over the décor. Instead of separating the bar area from the rest of the restaurant, everything is dimly lit (even when it still looks like it's noon at 5pm) with neon booze signs, sports team flags, and they allow smoking everywhere. Plus, the drinks come in those clear plastic red cups and the table cloths seem to be made out of the same pleather that our booths were lined with. For you Bay Area folks still reading my reviews (and my NEW fans, what what!), the inside reminded me of the upstairs of Kip's *before* the remodel. If you just sighed and said "oy" under your breath, you got the reference. Okay, one star for nostalgia. My mother and I split the pork ribs and quarter chicken with greens, fried okra and coleslaw. The coleslaw was great, and the greens were nice and spicy but the juice to greens ratio was kind of off. Fried okra was decent but it's not really worth ordering an extra side to try it. The ribs weren't too good but the chicken was actually very nicely cooked. Despite it being breast meat it was very tender and the skin had a nice crisp to it. By far my favorite part of the meal. I think my biggest issue was that I didn't like the sauce. The meat came to us without any BBQ sauce on it and we were supposed to add sauces from the table. Of the sauces, my favorite was probably the hot mustard, which tasted a bit like honey mustard with extra heat. The hot and sweet sauces had the consistency of Tabasco but were both sweet, the hot just had a little more black pepper flavor to it. I enjoy working up a sweat when I eat BBQ and these sauces just didn't do it for me.

Worst BBQ in USA!!! I recommend to all who wish to eat here to slap themselves then runaway!!!! Ate there for lunch today... Gnats in my drink, more than 50% fat in my pulled pork sandwich, and the sides were horrid!!! When I told waitress of the bugs in my drink, she looked at me like " crap not again". Please all who want BBQ do not eat here!!! I beg of you, take your money somewhere else!!!!!! This place needs to be shut down by the health inspector and the South BBQ Association, for that matter!!!!!!

Ribs are ok, big chicken wings were best on menu. Fry pickles were deelish. Service usually slow in attentive. Not impressing place. Pull pork sammy is dry and tiny every time I've tried, at least u have sauce options that can help it out if u drown in. Gonna try ja robs an see how that goes!

As a certified BBQ Judge for the Kansas City Barbeque Society, and someone who adores, loves, and worships good BBQ, I can tell you honestly that the 'Que at Big Daddy's is as good as it gets. I had the combo platter, with Chicken, Ribs, Pulled Pork and Brisket, along with Slaw and Beans. I was in seventh-heaven. Big Daddy came out and chatted for a while, and I downed the whole plate of food. The food was awesome, the ambiance excellent (who doesn't love a Bears/Bulls/Cubs fan?), and the service fantastic. I recommend this to anyone who visits Fairbanks. If you are on a tour, don't listen to anyone unless they tell you to go to Big Daddy's!!

I had the BBQ lunch buffet and man was it good. The chicken and pork were solid but the Tri-Tip was out of this world. Big Daddy's is a spacious place with long tables adorned with gingham print wipe-off tablecloths. There are a few tall deuces nearer to the bar and a few booths in the corner. The service was very friendly and the food was excellent. I must admit that I was a little leery of this place. After all, BBQ in Fairbanks, Alaska. My concern quickly dissipated as I got my hands dirtier. The buffet was $11 with a coke and worth every penny. For the overweight diner like myself, it's tasty all you can eat. Be prepared for the mess though. It's slathered with BBQ sauce that's MMM, MMM good.

Read all the reviews and was walking distance from my hotel but.................. the brisket was about as tender as a well cooked flank steak. Your call.

Not worth your time, even though there are limited BBQ places in Fairbanks. The staff and service was terrible, and all of our food came out cold.

I am surprised that they are able to pass this off as BBQ.... Maybe I caught them on a bad day, a new cook, or something, but the ribs were awful. The slab of ribs came really dry and very little sauce. The waitress was very understanding and helpful, and replaced them with babyback ribs for me. After re-reading the menu about how the meat was so soft and nearly falling of the bone, I wondered wondered why mine weren't. How do you over-cook babyback ribs, unless they were pre-cooked and re-heated.... or the cook didn't know what he was doing. That's not the end though. The service from the owner and managers about my experience was terrible. To tell someone that they will get back to you, and not call you back is the biggest slap in the face to a paying customer. With all the Chicago team gear on the wall, I assumed he was from the midwest.... but, I'm from the midwest, and we don't handle business this way. I wanted to go and do the wings or pulled pork and give them the benefit of the doubt of just one off day, but with customer service like this, NEVER AGAIN! NEVER AGAIN! Any soldier asking about BBQ won't get a referral from me to this place.

I grew up on North Carolina BBQ..that means Pulled Pork BBQ, with vinegar based BBQ sauce. Big Daddy's hit that one pretty close considering that they don't have a real wood burning BBQ pit to cook the stuff. But the first bite of the Pulled pork sandwhich made my toes curl a bit (which is a good sign!!) It didn't make me want to put it on the ground and roll in it (like my dog does when she finds something so damn good that she wants to wear it), but there is only ONE place on earth that makes that kind of Cue. BUT, the first bite of the Pulled Pork sent back there for a moment!!! Aaaaahhhhhhh............ :) So from a Carolina Pulled Pork perspective, I call it a definite repeat. As far as the briskit, I don't consider anything from a cow BBQ, but it was extremely tender. The beans and slaw (that's cole slaw for y'all west of the Mississippi) were pretty good also. The staff was friendly and as far as the "Ambiance".... IT"S A BBQ JOINT for crying out loud!!! If you left coaster's ever walked into a BBQ place in the south, you would probably not last long because the decor and smoke (from the BBQ pit) would insult your refined senses. Definitely this is the best BBQ I have had west of the Mississippi !!

Here is another from my list of favorite restaurants. I go there for lunch, and really recommend the rig tips with a side of fried okra. If you are really hungry, the ribs are good, and there are two styles to choose from. Ask which is which unless you are sure because they are quite different. I had ribs there today from the buffet, but didn't like them nearly as well as ribs from the menu. My wife likes the sausage sandwidh and I like the brisket. This is not a fancy place. It's like most of the good BBQ places I've been in -- kind of quirky and homey. Good beers are available on tap to go with the food.

We saw Big Daddy's on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and thought we'd give it a try. It was Ok. I had the beef brisket which was very tender and tasty. My wife had St. Louis ribs which were very fatty and the meat did not fall of the bone. The BBQ sauce that they provide is watery and not very flavorful or spicey. We've had better.

Came here with a group of 8, they were great about reseating us when we realized we had more people than originally planned. However our food took FOREVER to come out. I'm not sure if that was just a one-time fluke, but people who were seated after us definitely got their food before we did...a little annoying. The Cowboy Sundae with pulled pork is to die for, and if you fill up on beer first like I did you can always take it home - it's great as leftovers!

Wings on Wednesday are really good. They have four flavors to choose from. The pig out platter is really good too. U should split that with somebody tho.

Hi, I went here on Aug 25 for dinner with my brother. This is one of the places I wanted to try in my short time here in Fairbanks. I did some homework and from the other reviews; this sounded like a winner and it is. We parked across the street and walked over to the "entrance" where there was two doors. Left door to restaurant; right door to bar. Left door is locked but some people already outside leaving said go in right door then go left and the food is good. Ok, got seated and I ordered the St. Louis spareribs plate which came with two sides plus a soda and my brother ordered something which I can't remember. Anyways I tried some of his and he tried some of my ribs and we were both happy. The food was very good and I highly recommend this BBQ joint. Service from the waitress was fast and came around at the right times. I did notice that we were the only minorities (two Chinese guys) in the place until we were getting ready to leave but we did not feel unconfortable at any time. I believe they had a lunch buffet and if I ever come back; I am coming for that so I can try other menu selections they offer at the buffet. Makes me hungry thinking of a BBQ buffet . . . ummmmm! Here are the ratings: Food = A- Cleanliness = B+ Service = A- Menu = A Prices = B (everything is more expensive in Alaska). For Alaska: B+ Overall: A- If you are in Fairbanks; there are only so many places to go that we found in our short time here but this is definitely one of the very good ones to try. Check it out!

I was recommended this establishment by a few of my friends, they told me that it was one of their favorite places to eat in Fairbanks, so of course I had to go and check it out. I was disappointed because I was told they had the best steaks in town, but when I arrived it turned out they do not have steak. But that was alright, the food was still amazing. When I walked in the seating staff was very friendly and quickly got my and my two friends to a table. The establishment was very welcoming and had a quiet ambiance. The menu was overwhelming, but only because everything sounded so delicious I could not make a decision. Our waitress was very patient with us, neither me or my friends had ever been there before, so it took us quite a while to make a decision on what we wanted to eat. But we were all starving. I decided to try their wings for an appetizer, I had their parmesan garlic wings. I was a little worried at first because it was only 5 wings for $9.95, until the wings came and they were enormous. They were hands down the best wings I had ever had. On the wall I noticed that they have wing wednesdays, .99 cent wings on wednesday. I was overjoyed, and decided that I will go every wednesday forever. I haven't yet, but will soon. I told the waitress that I was extremely hungry, she recommended the pig out platter. BEST RECOMMENDATION EVER! For about 26 dollars, it had a mountain of food. I don't even know where to start. There was baby back ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage, and more. The wings that I had ordered for an appetizer, had been cooked in a sort of butter/parmesan sauce which had accumulated at the bottom of the basket they came in, I proceeded to pour that sauce over my pig out platter. My mouth died and went to heaven, came back to life, only to take another bite and die again. I cannot fully explain to you how amazing the BBQ and wings are from this establishment. You just have to go and eat there for yourself, you will not be disappointed, unless of course you are a PETA activist then you would probably have a minor stroke. But if that is not the case, then I highly recommend you go check it out. I would urge you to go on a wednesday so you can get wings. Also if you decide that you want many wings, if you spend $99 or more on wings you will get one extra wing. say you spend $99 dollars on wings. You would get 100 wings, if you spend $100 on wings, you would get 101 wings, etc. I was extremely satisfied with the food, service and prices of Big Daddy's BBQ, and I recommend to everyone who enjoys BBQ and good food for great prices to go and check it out, you will not be disappointed.

Large portions. Pork shoulder was quite good, but I was unimpressed with the ribs. Brisket was also above average. The "add sauce at the table" was ok for pork and brisket but left the ribs flavorless and dry.

Ordered Brisket dinner...got the brisket sandwich along with a healthy side of attitude from the bartender because she thought I ordered the sandwich. The Brisket which I asked for lean came out with quite a bit of fat. The best thing about the dinner was the corn on the cob. A friend had the ribs and they were very dry. The pulled pork sandwich was the best thing. I would not recommend this place...poor food with an attitude!
