I love the food and drinks here. Customer service is on point. For being as pricey as it is, that should be expected. Lol The drinks are great. My mom and I usually go here on her birthday!

I'm not very impressed with Sullivans. I have been there a few times, its expensive, and in my opinion just mediocre. I also don't like that you have to order everything separately, and I've just never had anything there that just knocked my socks off. I have eaten here a few times, and I always leave feeling disappointed. There is nothing I hate more then paying for food, and it not being good. Especially when its expensive! Interior is very nice, and the service has always been great, but the food is just nothing special in my opinion.

So far, I've been to one amazing steakhouse in my life (though I have had excellent steak at non-steak houses). Sullivan's was not it. The space aspires to fine dining, with great lighting, modern decor, and even some excellent live jazz music in the bar. The prices aspire to fine dining, rivaling the best menus in town. However, the food does not live up to the fine dining promise, and it was nowhere good enough to justify the expense. My special filet trio appetizer was $53 dollars, for filet three ways, a total of 12 ounces of meat. A freaking price travesty! They cooked it right to temp, and the Gorgonzola garlic butter on one and Bearnaise on the others were well-executed. However, the cuts were uneven and looked somehow smooshed. There was a bit of charring on the outside the bordered on burnt in flavor on the ends. I could have gotten the same portion of aged meat, with better cuts, that would have been tender and more flavorful at at least two other places in town for less than that. The hubs meat, also cooked correctly to temp order, came to him sliced, which is very unusual for a good steak, and both looked and tasted more like something one would get from a buffet (granted, a higher-end one). Both the garlic horseradish mashed potatoes and the sauteed spinach sides were fine, but again, ridiculously overpriced. I did really enjoy the key lime pie dessert, and while their red over heels martini was a bit too sweet even for my cocktail sweet-tooth, it was well made and decently sized (considering the cost, which at $12 is 2-3 dollars more than some of the best cocktails I've had in town). The only actually bad thing we were served was the shrimp cocktail for the hubs prix fixe. One of them had black on the end and didn't look good at all--something they should have checked before serving. We had to send it back, but the replacement was fine. All in all, the word that keeps coming to me to describe this experience is fine. I would probably have even rated it a 3.5 simply because the food all tasted fine and the service was fine. But the prices really dropped it all down. When I pay that much money for food, I expect excellence. When I left, all I could think about was how I could have had a much better meal for the same price elsewhere in town. I don't think I'll return any time soon (though I might for just a drink at the bar because I did enjoy the music and atmosphere).

Great atmosphere with amazing food... Customer service was great from Rachel. Tru the lamb chops, heiloom salad, and French onion soup... All good! Thanks.

Terrific bartender Brandi - she compliments the new bar very well, clearly extremely competent and very friendly. I'll be back to hang out with her.

The new remodel on the bar was a much needed item. Really opens up the dining area and makes the bar feel more spacious. The mac&cheese is great. Steaks are normally delicious and service is always outstanding. Waiting for drinks can be a bit slow so you may want to double up.

My husband and I just returned from our amazing Alaskan adventure. After one full day of hiking in Girdwood we decide to find a great place in downtown Anchorage to chill and enjoy an Alaskan beer. We passed by Sullivan's, it looked inviting, so we went in. Lucky us that we did that!! Sitting in the beautiful bar area we were approached by our wonderful waitress Kayla who couldn't do enough to make us happy! She brought us samples of every Alaskan beer we inquired about and gave us excellent recommendations on what to eat.We loved everything and even ordered seconds. We especially loved the Sriracha Glazed Shrimp and the Tavern Sliced Steak. Kayla even wrote down suggestions for breweries that she thought we should visit. Since it was Thursday night there was live music which added to the experience. Later during our visit we were approached by the General Manager Todd who stopped to ask if everything was OK .He chatted with us for awhile and told us how he ended up in Alaska from small town Illinois. Such a nice touch! Since we are from Chicago we do not impress very easily. Sullivan's Anchorage earns the 5 stars we gave it. We will definitely recommend it to friends when they travel to Anchorage and we will be back when we return to the city.

I am visiting Anchorage on business/pleasure and passed by and saw a great crowd (5th around C St.) Me and my partner decided to go and give it a try. It was late (945) and we sat at the bar. We received terrible service, food and drinks. For the price I would give this a negative star.

Every time we have a meeting in Anchorage we like to come here as a group and celebrate afterward. Let's face it, the place is the bomb when it comes to steaks (although 2 people ordered the salmon and they both received it over cooked and tasteless). But what is getting frustrating is the fact that I believe the last two times we have made reservations (for 9-10 and requested a private room) they have screwed it up and the staff have to scramble to hook us up. IDK....once maybe I understand but twice??? Also, our waiter insisted on everyone at the table pulling out their id's before he'd take our cocktail order..... ages ranged from 28 to 63..... whatever....

I'm gonna give Sullivan's 3 stars simply because I know what the food should be as I used to be a waitress here many years ago. I'm visiting from out of state and I came here for lunch because I used to love the steak salad. Lunch time at Sullivan's is not very busy.. There is no excuse for the service to be as slow as it is. We asked for bread 3 times and never got it.. Umm hello?!? My steak was cold by the time I got it as it was probably sitting out waiting for the other food. My father has been here multiple times and said only once was the service good.. And I dont know what kind of screening is being done on the waitresses but I seriously think the process should be re-evaluated because if you can't manage to keep up with lunch in an empty resturaunt then you should consider working at a drive through window. And I wouldn't get the signature bread pudding either as it is cold.. What planet has cold bread pudding?! Used to be a fan.. I guess things change over the years.

ANCHORAGE: I know its a chain, but I am going to break my rule and go with five stars for Sullivans. And only for this location. I have eaten at several others, but this place is absolutely the best. The waitstaff is trained, Im sure, with an iron fist because they are nice, courteous and helpful as if their lives depend on it. They are spectacular with service. Order the Filet Oscar style. Best steak, best hollandaise, freshest crab in the US. Awesome! The other standout, if you like banana, is the banana foster bread pudding. I could eat it every day. Fantastic.

"Meh. I've experienced better." 2.5 stars I walk into a beautiful bar and take a seat for lunch. The bartender is friendly and promptly serves me. He's on his game. Does the mandatory ID check, keeps me stocked with limes for my Perrier. My filet mignon comes out. It's okay. Not great. The meat just doesn't taste flavorful. It's odd meat. My potatoes were so grossly over seasoned with horseradish that I spit it out into my napkin. I complained about it and got a side of fries, which were meh. I didn't finish anything on my plate. There was a guy at a table by himself having a worse experience with his food. He opened his chicken sandwich and started complaining from there. I got the feeling he was a manager testing out a new cook or something. Hopefully, as they needed somebody to taste test. We have Sullivans in Houston and it is top-notch and delicious. The food here did not live up to the name.

A great place with good atmosphere. The bar tenders are very friendly and attentive. The food and drinks are great. If you sit in the bar area there is a smaller menu with some delicious choices.

Walked in without a reservation, and were informed that we would have to wait 15-20 minutes for the dining room, but that we could have a seat in the bar and get dinner there. Sat down at a table that needed cleaning as it was the only table open. Waited 10 minutes and was never acknowledged by any of the 10+ servers, bar staff, etc. despite making eye contact with a number of them. Walked out frustrated. Horrible.

Had my pre-birthday celebration here with my boyfriend and I must say we had a great time. Awesome food, lovely ambience , accommodating servers. Only comment is that both of our steaks were over charred to the point where it was too bitter to eat. They even sent a thank you card afterwards which was a nice and sweet gesture. Great service by Scott!

Appetizers: wonderful Cocktails: delicious House made Cesar dressing for the salad: also very good Steaks: sub-par. Seriously. How do you do everything right but your steak? The "crust" was very blackened with a not great cut of meat to begin with (a supposed filet mignon). And over salted. And under "sauced." Which a good steak doesn't even need. Oh well. I'll pass on here for anything but drinks and an app.

Always delicious and popular. The Philly cheese steak eggrolls amazing..Actually all the appetizers are really good. Dinner is a bit much for me but sitting in the bar is always a great choice for downtown dining. Parking garage is close and easy to get to from the mall. I usually eat her before a concert at the Egan center. Yummmo

I was quite impressed with Sullivan's. It was my first time here the other night and I had a great experience. I made a reservation via OpenTable and put a comment that it was going to be a celebration for my fiance's birthday. As soon as we checked it, they greeted him with 'happy birthday'. When we put in our drink order, the manager came by and comped him a birthday drink! That was very sweet. Service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive. The food was great as well. We both ordered the prefix menu for $39.00 and the oysters to start! The oysters were bomb!! For the prefix appetizers, we had the jumbo shrimp cocktail and shanghai fried calamari. The shrimp was very plump, large and tasted fresh. We also ordered the french onion soup and fresh market greens. The soup was good, but wished it had more broth in it. It was a bit over powered by the melt cheese on top. We both also had the 8oz filet mignon. It was delicious. Seasoned extremely well and so tender. I had a great first time experience here and will definitely be back to celebrate other occasions here! They took a picture for us at the end which was a really nice touch. It was printed out and put into a card frame with a hand written message as well!

Came for lunch with my department with a reservation for 20. Sullivan's is under construction and they did not warn us while making the reservation that it was very loud. We were subjected to loud drilling and not able to even hear the person next to you. They should not be open.

Sad to read the poor reviews of this place. My husband and I went to Sullivan's about a month ago, and despite being in a remodeling phase, we had an excellent experience. I am a steak fanatic and our steak dish was the best I've had in Anchorage. Our server was also amazing and the manager came by a few times to make sure we were happy. Maybe we got lucky, but I really don't think so. It's an excellent restaurant. I'll definitely be going back for our next date night!

Been here dozens of times, only one unfavorable experience which the manager more than made up for on the spot. Steaks and sides have almost always been perfect. Our favorite steakhouse in the state!

Got a private message from the General Manager apologizing for my experience and asked what time is best to call me and if I can give her my number. Ok, so I was relieved that they heard me and wanted to fix it or whatever. Gave her my number and available time to call. So it's been over a week now....DID NOT EVEN GET A SINGLE CALL, MISSED CALL, nor VOICEMAIL! I *smh* It's nice to ACT like they care. Sadly, their "recovery" attempt did not execute, and if they were, they should have done it immediately or within a reasonable 72 hours. Oh how I question their management skills for such a big company! Really wish they had called and was looking forward to it but now I rather them not bother. Down one star for neglecting customer and failed to follow up with issues. I forgot to mention we even have a rewards program with them so they can see that we dine often with Del Friscos. Definitely will not be using it at this location when we're in Anchorage again. I'll take my business back to Las Vegas,NV. Very disappointed, Sullivans!

Several years ago I ate here in a private room for a work function and enjoyed it. For awhile it had been on my B list to consider sometime while in town. When my other half needed a reservation for a group of hardy guys, it seemed like the best choice available on opentable at the time. It wasn't. Overall, we had an awkward time with our server, from her cracking jokes about our collective home town that we didn't get to her constantly trying. To upsell us on everything. I know, corporate rules probably but she could have been less obvious about it. What our party could have used was some information about how to order. Most of the guys ordered way too much not understanding their gargantuan concept of portion sizes. They left a lot behind on their plates. My other half and I chose 4 side dishes to share and this was a perfect amount for us. The kale salad was the best of the bunch. I appreciated the raw kale and the creamy dressing. The French onion soup was VERY salty and laden with too much cheese. The shredded Brussels sprouts were good, but very salty. The grilled asparagus surprised us: $9 for seven thin asparagus spears. Glad we weren't the ones paying the check!

Only thing worth ordering is the Cheesesteak Eggrolls and a Knockout. Also, if you go, request to sit with Nick or Terry (but ask for big Terry or teddy-bear Terry...)

Best meal I have had in years! The service was over the top and friendly, we had live music to boot! Drinks were well done to perfection, oysters were fresh as was the Yellow Tail. Our server was fun to talk with and we never had to ask twice! Going to take my wife there next time I am in town! This is my new favorite place in Anchorage!

I was pleased with my experience here but there were service issues and my food was just... good. Not great. I ordered a Filet Mignon with a lobster tail. The tail was juicy and ginormous. It had a good flavor and it was pleasing. The filet was a little gamey. It needed the peppercorn sauce to make it edible. I left about a third because it dried out really quick. The philly cheese steak egg rolls were pretty amazing. One of the few memorable dishes I had. Cheese and Morsels of beef on a crispy eggroll draped with this sweet sauce.. yum! The Three Cheese Mac was another hit with me. Super cheesy and soft. Delicious. The White Cheddar au gratin potatos were decent. It was just chunks of potato in the white cheddar. I was expecting it to be layered and baked. I wasn't too impressed. I wish I could give a half star extra. The food was hit and miss. And it's closer to 4 than it is 3 stars. Where it falls short is service issues like... clearing a table. taking menus. simple details that add to the customer experience. our server was friendly, and always available; but we had to ask him to clear our table. I don't know if it's an Alaska thing or I'm nit picking but if a table doesn't order wine most places usually clear the wine glasses. Appetizer plates usually get cleared once they are done. And so are empty drink glasses. We had to ask for those items to be cleared. We also had to ask for our menus to be cleared. Once my surf and turf was delivered they served it on two different dishes and transferred everything over to one dish in front of me. I thought it was really peculiar. They should have just left the lobster tail on the shell. And my steak on that same plate. The presentation was actually appealing. It lost it's artistic display once everything was consolidated onto one plate. It felt like it was just lack of training or it was opening night. I didn't leave disappointed, the experience was decent. It just lacked the wow factor I expect from a place commanding similar prices. I frequent steakhouses often so compared to that this place falls short... From the outside, the place has curbside appeal. It's literally what got us through that door. The atmosphere was jazzy and mysterious. The staff was friendly. I mean this could be a 5 star place with a few tweaks here and there.

We went for New Years Eve. A set menu, choose one of each. It was a little pricey with drinks, but everything was delicious and the service was great. I would go back for sure. A side note, I noticed the bad reviews on this place were from people who probably don't go to nice places often. This place is pretty good

My fiancée and I ate here and the staff was very nice. It's very classy for Anchorage. They mixed up my order on my burger but were quick to correct it and gave me a very delicious bisque along with it. It was PHENOMENAL! The burger was the best in town, although very pricey at $16 but I'll be back for that bisque!

Could provide more than 5 stars, if possible! Went there last summer, but I was not so much of an Yelper till late! So, as I started reviewing restaurants recently, thought about writing about one my my best dining experience ever. Place is in downtown Anchorage, next to a shopping mall. Went on a weekday evening as we were visiting Alaska. It was mostly busy, but the wait was not long. And, service was more than impeccable. Food was perfect, the perfect steak I ever had. Ambience could not be better! To top it off, the waitress provided a personal greetings card to our family when she learnt we were visiting from CA bay area! How wonderful that is. Don't know when we'll visit Anchorage again, but if we go back to AK, this place will be in our must re-visit list.

First off, service was amazing! Our waiter was very attentive, knowledgable, and friendly. The atmosphere was awesome. Beautiful decorations, comfortable seating, and nice table settings. That being said, the food was just ok. The appetizer, cheesesteak rolls, were delicious. But our meals were pretty unimpressive. They weren't bad, I guess we just expected a little bit better for the price. We both ordered steaks and they tasted a lot like frankensteaks. We'll probably go back but it won't be a common visit.

Terrible experience on Valentine's Day. They clearly overbooked. We were seated 40 min after our reservation time and the service continued to be slow. We were there over 3 hours and we even took dessert to go. The manager took half off my meal because my steak was overcooked, which was nice but I still probably won't be back. We had to ask for bread, Caesar salad was bland with no croutons, steak dry and overcooked. They also ran out of all desserts except chocolate covered strawberries, which looked very unappealing and we threw them out. Overall it felt like a huge waste of money on what was supposed to be a special occasion.

Great steaks. A little pricey for what they offer. Went to Sullivan's for Valentine dinner. We sat there for over 15 minutes before my wife got feed up and went to get a manager. After that we had the best service ever. The manager brought free drinks and a free seafood appetizer. Or steaks arrived quickly. My wife's steak was supposed to be well done, but was actually medium well. All in all Sullivan's have us another good meal. We would return.

Went for lunch and had their shredded steak sandwich. I thought the steak was seasoned well and the roll was fresh. I would have enjoyed a stronger hit of horseradish in the dipping sauce, but I just really like horseradish. Service was very good.

I've eaten at Sullivan's steak house twice and had almost identical experiences both times. Not even joking, it was exactly the same feeling both times. Both times I only went there because someone gave me a gift certificate and both times I ended up paying way more than the amount on the gift certificate and hated every minute of it. I'll only bore you with one story the most recent one which was last night. It starts with attitude: My girlfriend and I eat out downtown a lot and I've never been treated the way I'm treated at sullivans. The hostess at the door from the inside of the mall actually immediately took us into the bar(note were both wearing business casual clothes me dockers and button down her skirt and blouse. We are however younger and I've got a facial hair and a hipster haircut.) We had to turn around and state..no we'd like to sit in the dining room. To which the hostess said "oh is it a special occassion?" To which I said "no just dinner." We went to the hostess stand and got the same treatment "is it a special occassion?" "no we'd like a booth. Do you have a reservation?" To which my girlfriend said...no? Do we need one?" To which the hostess said "well usually people have reservations" The dining room is empty...like ghost town empty... which I think is pretty standard for Sullivans at 6pm on a Wednesday. The hostess lead us to our table. we are walked all the way across the empty dining room to a booth right next to the stairs. and the drink stand. as far as I can tell the worst table in an empty restaurant...ok I think maybe there's a lot of reservations and the place will fill up...Place stays pretty much empty. 3-4 other parties the whole time were there. On to the drinks. We ask for a wine list and pick a 34 dollar bottle of cab from santa rita. what ever I've been to chile and argentina and like the wine from there. The wine is good (credit goes to the chilean vintner not to sullivans which charges too much for it) and the waiter only botches opening the bottle once...and has to get another bottle... The wine glasses on the table were dirty, probably because they don't use the table hardly ever as its the worst table in the place. We didn't point out that the glasses were dirty, but we did notice, they were suuuuuuper dirty. The waiter removed them before we could even ask. Then we ordered. The menu is huge, rambling, and confused. all over the the place.. Stand alone steaks mixed with a random assortment of other dishes and an overpriced list of normal pub food starters and some sauces and stuff...its basically a diner menu with way to many options and no clear idea of what it's trying to be. Theres a set menu for something like 230 a person and just randomly assigned dishes otherwise. I got a 12oz $41 filet and my girlfriend ordered to broiled shrimp linguine with red sauce $38. We opted to share a ceasar salad $12 (or so). The food came First the caesar salad....it was an exact replica of the costco chicken caesars just without the chicken. pasta dish was decent the sauce was odd though giant clumps of tomato...possibly canned, with a little seasoning. Cook on the shrimp was good. If I wasn't a red meat maniac I could've easily sent my filet back...it was cold in the middle. I ordered it rare though...and am a maniac so I ate it..i like steak sushi. I almost forgot the waiter constantly upsells...its maniacal. As a person he seemed like a nice guy but it was fairly obvious that there are certain requirements of the restaurant...he must be forced to try to make a joke or engage in conversation every time he comes to the table. It reminds me of chochkis(sp?) from office space. Poor guy. He got a nice tip. Finished with cheesecake. It was too warm like they nuked it or something. I'd give this place 2 stars but I just can't bring myself to..1 star because the price for that mediocre food and poor treatment by the staff was $130 dollars......really...come on. 4 star prices for the applebees experience. I've only eaten at applebees twice in my life...and sullivans twice...I will try to limit both. Orsos and club paris, and the captain cook are accross the street....note to my family and friends..stop giving me gift cards to sullivans.

Seriously guys? DO NOT read the positive reviews, whoever gave this place a positive review either has been smoking too many cigarettes and their taste buds are out of wack, or they have never eaten at a true world class restaurant. Anyway, I gave this restaurant two tries: first time I tried their burgers and the second time I tried their steaks, both times were horrible. There is no need to smother the food with all these sauces and cheeses, you DO NOT do that to a burger meat or a damn steak, thats culinary class 101, the ending result was truly abominable. Something good? Yes, impeccable service with great attention to the customers needs, clean restaurant (elegant though very dated) Update: I was invited back in for a "courtesy" dinner where we would be "taken care of". When I got there guess what? Not even a standard meal was offered.....nothing but a piece of steak on a plate with a glass of water, because they didn't want to take care of anything else. It was sooooo bad and akward that we ate and left.....I was actually made feel worse than when I paid for over $300 worth of dinner between the last two visits combined. Not only do I dislike this place....but i HATE IT...and I will make sure that I spread the word out so fast and to so many people that nobody eats there but unaware tourists. I would actually give this place zero stars...but that wasn't an option

My boyfriend and I went here for Valentines Day and from start to finish it was one of best meals I've ever had. There was live music at the bar where we sipped champagne, and our three course dinner was delicious. Steaks we cooked to perfection, and sides were excellent as well. Not to mention the service was fantastic. This is easily one of the best places I've eaten in Anchorage, and I'd recommend it to everyone looking for a great steak, an elegant atmosphere, and wonderful service!

Sullivan's is back on our favorite list, thank goodness. I don't think I could have gone much longer without the cheesesteak egg rolls. Had a perfect meal there again with top notch service. Thanks Sullivan's.

I'm giving Sullivan's three stars because the people who took care of us were nice and helpful but the food is subpar at best. My husband and I ordered the cheesesteak egg rolls as an appetizer and although my husband ate them we felt they tasted like something out of the freezer section at the grocery store. My wedge salad was fresh but the excessive dressing ruined the experience. My 6oz filet was cooked correctly, but the mashed potatoes were cold underneath and although I sent it back for a warm up they came back pretty much the same temperature. Also did not care for the brown jelly around the edge of the plate. We will most likely not be visiting again (this was our second try, the first also left us underwhelmed) due to a plethora of better restaurants nearby.

I really enjoy Sullivans every time I go. The staff is friendly and very experiences. On my most recent outing here we had a party of 20+. The servers were fast and attentive. Ask about the specials! I got the petite filet mignon with a crab cake for $39. Amazing deal. My steak was cooked perfectly, nice red center just how I like it. The crab cake was awesome. The potatoes au gratin are so delicious! They're a must for me, always. I topped the night off with a Strawberry Blonde Martini, is perfection. I would stay away from the mojitos, they're definitely a miss at Sullivans. The food is delicious here, but a $90 (20% gratuity included) bill for one person is pretty extreme. The steaks don't come with any sides, so the additional costs really add up. This is definitely a special occasion type of place. I couldn't imagine eating here on a regular basis, my bank account wont allow it. **During the holidays Costco carries two $50 gift cards for $79.99 for Sullivans, definitely pick those up!**

Overall all very good, a little pricey expect to pay $50-75 per person. The appetizers are delicious the steak filet is very good. Feels like an older restaurant but it's not really. Server was good but a little under experienced. Hostess was friendly and polite.

What can I say? I come to Anchorage 4-5 times a year and this is hands down my favorite place to eat. Joe the manager is THE man. I always sit in the bar where the lovely and talented ladies that work there take great care of me. There's usually great live music in the evening. This place is classy and quality. Dont look at the prices and treat yourself to the following items: the eggrolls, the mac and cheese, and the dry aged steak. Drink it down with their incredibly smooth yet potent homemade Knockout cocktail. You're going to need a DD after two or three but they are so smooth you won't even know it until it's too late.

One word: overpriced I have eaten at Sullivan's a couple of times with my wife and have walked away both times feeling taken. I have no problem paying top dollar for top dollar fare but at Sullivan's you pay top dollar for a dimly lit room playing Counting Crows songs and poorly dolled up bargain steaks. Another reviewer nailed the Caesar salad on the head by describing it as the chicken Caesar salad from Costco without the chicken. The red pepper rib-eye I had this most recent time through was about as thick as a credit card and tasted like one too. To their credit, the servers were friendly enough but in an empty restaurant we only spoke to ours to order, bring the food, and finally the check. So to reiterate at Sullivan's the only premium is the price, everything else is average or below.

Pretty good but not good enough to make the best impression. $44 for a 14 oz steak and it was cooked well but lacked flavor. We expected the wild salmon to be absolutely fresh, being in Alaska and all. But nope. I've tasted fresher salmon down south in the lower 48. The salmon was tough and dense. Never tasted salmon like this one. But the mash potatoes was very good and so was their apple martini.

Service is astonishing here. Small bar located on the side if you ever want to meet up for few drinks. It was VIP treatment and not going to turn you around if you came in wearing t-shirt and jeans. Restaurant is upscale with excellent choice of steak and sides. I have never seen salad served in 1/4th of a whole lettuce and you have to cut it yourself. I felt little awkward but once I start cutting it, it came natural and made sense to it eat it like that. You can chose iceberg or spinach salad. Both comes with house dressing that was very good. I'm more of a ranch dressing but I tried it and it was very good. Make sure you order side dish (mashed potatoes or asparagus). Steak will come by itself like most of upscale restaurants. I haven't tried Sullivan's in Chicago but one in Anchorage received 5 start rating for food service. After dinner, dessert is must! (strawberry creme brule); it is amazing!!

Not bad for a chain restaurant! We had a delicious and boozy lunch on New year's eve eve. French onion soup, classic wedge salads and fresh-baked bread still steaming, alongside.

It is on the pricey side for eating. The food is good but not over the top amazing. I have been here a ton of times for all different reasons. The sides are good amounts, enough to share. It is an okay place, not my first pick but not my last for sure!

The salmon is top notch along with the shrimp appetizer. We sat in the bar area and enjoyed the wonderful piano and atmosphere. Great place for a date.

Valentine's Day. I think the staff and management stretched beyond their ability to deliver a quality service tonight due to the swarm of Valentine's Day traffic. Food was comp'ed for dirty dishes, poor table side service, and late reservation seating. (I found a half eaten Valentines heart candy stuck to my bread knife, gross) I hope the management takes this as a sign that just trying to accommodate all comers and hoping it turns out well is not a recipe for success. We'll return for the food and atmosphere, just not on a day where the staff has anything more difficult than the weather to worry about.

Its way over priced. If we didn't have a gift card, I doubt we would have stayed. Took a long time to get our food, and with the amount of staff they had working I would have expected better service. Cheesesteak egg rolls were awesome and the soup was good. My steak was fine but my wife's was way over seasoned, I tried a bite and it tasted like pure garlic salt. Not what I'd expect from a $40+ steak. No plans on going back, other than to get an appetizer before going somewhere else. You're paying for a white table cloth and a good wine selection, as for the food, there are better places for half the price.

Ok so I was here awhile back and gave bad review. I'm going to rethink my review.., this time I had a great bartender named Justin who gave me water without asking AND kept my glass full. He kept tract of cocktails and filled without me having to wait. My appetizer was pretty good but really Sullivan's you can't afford chips that won't break in the very good kale and avocado dip?

Didn't realize how pricy it was until we got there... Our fault for not looking up prices before checking it out though. But if you are in the mood to spend some big bucks on some amazing food, this is the place to go!! Well worth the price! :) Wish we would have tried some of the wine! Looked like they had some great options! Amazing service too!!

We ate in the bar. We split one of the special pre fix $40 dinners. We had the shrimp, wedge salad and filet ninon. All were very good. The server was very good. It was my birthday and they gave me a candle in my dessert which was also very good. We would go back and highly recommend this place.

First time here, and i have been wanting to come for a while now. I came here for lunch, which was really nice. Just a few tables going in the dining room. I got hot Tea, which my waiter brought a box over to let me choose which type i wanted, As well as water with lemon. Shrimp and lobster Bisque , which should of been the starter. Came after i was served my salad , which was my main meal. I did not like that. I should of gotten the soup first, Any way, soup was medi oaker, not too great , just alright. The Salad was Crab Louis. That was very good. Well worth it! Chunks of real crab, egg, really good dressing. The bread was quite good. Real butter is a plus.I will have to go back for dinner one day. Decor is nice, lots of old photos of fighters and such. Bathroom, was not dirty but, not sparkling clean either. I would go back, but it is not one of my top 10.

For a chain steakhouse it's a very decent meal and those are sometimes hard to come by in Alaska! Food is always good here. We always get the mac & cheese & usually the creamed spinach as well. We typically don't have room for dessert beyond coffee. I did get the caesar salad on our most recent trip but noted the heavy use of shredded parm cheese on top. I like how the kitchen is open. Service is good, but it's definitely not stellar.

Great place if you're not paying. Solid menu selections. You can't go wrong with any of the steaks, and the Chicken Piccata is also very nice. I recommend the crab cakes as well as the calamari appetizers. Service is on level with the high prices here. Parking is easy because it is attached to the mall. Like I was saying if you make a lot of money, or someone else is paying, it's great.

Update: if you are traveling and have been to other Sullivan's give this location a try. The staff is fantastic! One of the better chain steak house in the US and this location is great! We usually sit in the bar area and listen to jazz and sip on wine. Sullivan's does something that most upscale joints do...go over the top with their service. The staff is well informed on the menu and if they are unsure of something they will fine out. I'm just learning about scotch and the bartender gave me a quick lesson. My lady loves fillets and after hitting several other places Sullivan's hit the mark. When I travel I look for quality and have been to several Sullivans and they never disappoint. Sure there are other good steakhouse in Anchorage but Sullivans is a step above most.

Delicious. Professional. Dark. Relaxing. For being on such a busy street corner on C st, enter Sullivan's and it's like nothing else on the outside matters. Dark lighting, ecletic floral arrangements and catchy background music, this place creates the mood of a posh 1940s dinner lounge. The food is really to die for. I always seem to get the petite filet mignon, but topping with carmelized onions (not breaded), is sinfully tender and juicy. This time around we indulged in some dry white wine with a smooth finish. The side dishes of king crab (w/ melted butter) and crabcake were delicious, some of the finest seafood I've ever had. Our waiter had a little slip....we asked for another bottle and he failed to provide at least 10 minutes. But after reminding him gently, he whisked off and was on point for the rest of the evening. I like it here.

I hadn't been to Sullivan's for quite some time, but happened to be passing by after attending AWIC's wine tasting fundraiser at the PAC this past week, so my friend and I decided to duck into the bar for some apps. We ordered and shared three apps, a steak bites, calamari and the gnocchi along with a couple of glasses of wine. Consistent with all of my prior experiences at Sullivan's the food is excellent! Although our server omitted one of the apps, so we had to inquire to learn that she didn't hear the entire order. I am certain that this was indeed the case, as I always find the live jazz much to loud for the space. The bar has a bit of a noise level issue, I also find the dining room somewhat cave like, which is the reason I rarely choose Sullivan's, and it is almost always someone elses pick. That said, their food is excellent, just doesn't tend to fulfill what I am looking for when I head out for the evening.

My wife and I had lunch here on Black Friday. Both got the $22 lunch special for a filet mignon, mashed potatoes, and veggies. Steaks were quite good, and delivered to the table quickly. We were both skeptical of the horseradish mashed potatoes, but they were also tasty, not overpowering like we suspected. Staff was friendly, I'm sure we'll return.

**UPDATE** The regional manager reached out to me and apologized personally for this instance. I also learned that the manager that I mentioned no longer works there. As my review stated, the food is phenomenal and the service usually is great. I am glad to learn that they have taken steps to make it better. I consider my initial issue with them resolved and am changing my rating accordingly. *********** Gotta give this place a solid 2... Out of all the restaurants in Anchorage I can usually count on this place being consistently good on the food quality spectrum. The wait staff however can be hit or miss, and often do not understand how to handle complaints. If a steak is under-cooked they will act a little shocked. Most of the time they will offer to put it back on for you, however after 3-4 times its gets pretty old. I am under the assumption that one should be able to have a steak cooked the way they ordered it the first time, especially at a Steakhouse charging $35-$42 on average for a steak. The food quality is the saving grace for this place. The service spotty at times. The one instance that stands out among the rest is when my fiancee ordered a 12 oz fillet, you know the really expensive ($42) cut. What was brought out looked like a six ounce, we have a good feel for the way things should look after eating here a dozen + times. We brought it to the attention of our server, and instead of taking care of it, brought out a manager to explain that "when you cook steaks, they shrink." Well no shit, but we are talking about a cut that had maybe 3 bites worth of meat, that was supposed to be a 12 oz. Here is the real kicker. In order to further make his case (which he seemed to take very personally, as if we were directly insulting him over the tiny steak), he proceeded to go back to the kitchen and bring out an uncooked 12 oz filet. Never in my whole life would I imagine a restaurant manager bringing raw meat out of a kitchen to prove a freeken point. He shoved the raw cut in our faces and said, "see this is what they look like before cooking. But he seemed to prove our point for use. The comparison was just too evident, he cut was less far less than half the size of the "example" he so graciously showed us. Not only was this rude, but from a health standpoint, plain idiocy. After an uncomfortable lecture from the general manager on the process of cooking meat (aka common sense) he took another look at at and said "well that does look a little small." And did what he should have done in the first place, get us what we were paying for.

Better than adequate happy hour specials & apps. Pretty good deals and pretty good food. We enjoyed crab fried rice, blue-cheese chips, gnocchi, and a beef app w/ mushrooms. Surprised there were NO beers on tap, especially in a beer-rich place like Anchorage. The main menu looks good but extremely expensive for a chain restaurant. That said, I'd probably personally prefer to spend that kind of money elsewhere, but might give it a try on a future visit to Anchorage. Would return for the happy hour specials for sure.

Sullivan's aspires to be the Morton's or Ruth's Chris of Anchorage, but it seems they only managed to duplicate the menu choices and prices. (On the plus side, there was a very good jazz band that played a few songs before packing it up at 9:30pm, and the waitstaff are very good for Alaska.) We started with the oysters Rockefeller appetizer ($15.50) which consists of four tiny, thumb-sized oysters covered in some kind of white cream sauce and topped with a bit of sauteed spinach. They oysters were cooked well, but this is not oysters Rockefeller ... and the price is outrageous. For dinner, our group ordered three bone-in ribeye steaks ($43 a la carte), 2 medium and 1 medium-rare. When served silently by the restaurant manager, each steak was a different size and shape, and all were obviously overcooked. The mediums were medium-well, and the med-rare was not far behind. All three were gray on the surface and lacked anything resembling a decent sear. Being charged this much money for such poorly executed steaks simply left me angry and insulted. The manager never returned to our table. Our group ordered most of the sides available on the menu. The horseradish mashed potatoes ($8) were cold. Not room temperature ... cold. The sauteed mushrooms obviously were not prepared to order, and seemed to have been sitting in their own juices for hours. We also received about eight pieces of asparagus ($9.50), which was cooked nicely but drenched in butter and served with a pint of congealed hollandaise sauce. These prices exceed even the most expensive steak houses in New York, Las Vegas, or any other major city. While our server was friendly and attentive, Sullivan's should be embarrassed to charge $80+ for a meal that is inferior to anything one could find at a Golden Corral. Fortunately for us, our flight had been cancelled and our travel insurance picked up the bill for this unfortunate and expensive dinner. If you're paying with your own money, I would find somewhere else.

Sat at the bar, wanted a drink and appetizer, the cocktail was very good, the service a little slow but certainley okay. I ordered a quick appetizer the seared ahi tuna. When it was delivered the tuna was brown and dried on the edges and nit soft mist or pink/red, this was seared along time before I ordered it and then not covered,,GROSS, I brought it to their attention and she looked at it and seemed a little like she did not see the issue. it was grey!!!

An awesome Restaurant! They have awesome starters like the Fried Calamari, Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, and my favorite, the Seared Ahi Tuna. They have a great Long Island Tea Martini. Sullivan's will tend to go raw with their steaks so when I ask for a medium steak, I would receive a great medium rare steak. I had their "cowboy cut" steak and it was delicious. Their Caesar Salad is bland. I had their Lobster Tail twice and it is awesome! You have to order the Peanut Butter Black Bottom Pie with Roasted Peanuts & Caramel for dessert! I went there 3 times, the first time we had a great waiter named Colin who did a great job on recommending certain item on the menu. The second time, we had a waiter who seemed to have an off-day. He placed the wrong food for the wrong people, he got some orders completely wrong, and didn't bring out all the desserts. He later apologized and comp the desserts. Maybe he was distracted or had something else on his mind. So the third time we went we asked for Colin and he did a excellent job.

What a disappointment. We have always preferred Sullivan's as one of our "go to" restaurants for birthday and anniversary celebrations. Although we have heard complaints from others regarding Sullivan's, our experiences were always positive.. Until last night. We made a reservation weeks ahead of time. When we arrived, we were seated immediately in the back room, which is generally reserved for larger parties. I rather prefer the decor in the dining room, so I didn't at all prefer being "put in the corner". Our table was like a "Sit and Spin"; the top twirled in a circle. We complained and a waiter attempted to fix it, but no luck. Another couple was seated nearby and laughed because their table was the same way. Yet another couple was seated near us and were not happy about being seated in the back room.. they complained and were moved out with the general dining population. In order to not seem like a total Negative Nelly, I will give kudos to our waiter Scott, who was excellent. Food was ok, but I've had better in previous visits. Due to last nights visit, I am not sure we will go back and that is very disappointing to my husband and me.

The house band is good. Classic jazz trio. The bar itself is a stylish, art deco style back. And although the top shelf gin ended up being Tanqueray(@ $8.50 a drink), it was well poured. "Bread with your salad?" actually means "we'll bring you bread 5 minutes after you finish your salad and two minutes before your dinner arrives. " The "Best Burger in Town" is a flat out lie. Throw a rock in almost any direction and get a better burger. The service was underwhelming. A drink was added to the bill that was never ordered, and worse, never delivered. They did remove it after we pointed it out. Overall, you expect more from a place with this price tag especially when they've obviously put so much effort in to appearing upscale.

So I ate here for lunch the wait staff was excellent and the manager even came out to talk and bring more bread. My glass of water was never empty and my coffee was always full with fresh cream. I had the soup and salad wedge. Outstanding. Catch phrase time: I'll be Back For sure:-)

I realize Sullivan's is a chain restaurant but it brings something to Anchorage that is so desperately needs...class! Great menu, excellent food, amazing cocktails, beautiful decor and great live music! What else could one want? Sure it's expensive like everything else in this city but at least you get the entire package when going out. Great date spot. Have always received excellent service especially from the bar staff.

Sullivan's used to be one of the best restaurants in Anchorage -- It did what it did, very well. There was a limited menu, a clear vision, and excellent control of the kitchen. If you ordered steak, you got a great steak. If you ordered tuna, you got a beautifully prepared meal. That was then. Sullivan's has changed. My husband and I went there tonight. We told the hostess we were celebrating a special occasion. Although the restaurant was almost empty, we were seated at a table on the runway between the kitchen and the bar, so there was a constant stream of wait staff carrying tubs, dishes, food, etc in front of us. Sullivan's used to play jazz-age jazz, consistent with the Chicago steak house theme. Tonight. the restaurant was playing loud, upbeat classic-rock oldies that you would expect to hear at a sports-bar - music to drink and talk over, but not the kind of music for anything approximating fine dining. ( I guess that was a clue.) The oldies didn't fit with the decor. It was like punk rock in an office building elevator. There was a jarring dissonance you kept hoping would stop, but it didn't. I love rock and roll, but this was not right. The food was unremarkable, at best. The Asian calamari was coated with sweet sauce that did it no favors. The wedge salad was not freshly made, and was deluged with so much dressing that it was not edible. The grilled ahi appetizer was cut in strips so thin that it was almost unrecognizable, texturally. The strip steak dinner special came as little pre-cut chunks of beef. The creamed spinach and the baked potato were ok. We decided not to tempt fate by ordering dessert. Sullivan's has lost its vision, and has lost its way. It can't be all things to all people, which is what it seems to be attempting right now.

Was in Anchorage last month on business and ate at Sullivan's while there. There was a live band playing while I was there. Although a little too loud, I enjoyed them. The food was great and the staff was friendly. The only reason there isn't five stars is because of cleanliness. The table my friend and I were at was "sticky" and the carpet as well as décor seem a little dirty and dated. The great staff and food make it a winner though! If I'm ever back in Anchorage I'll be stopping by for sure!

Solid 4 stars. I only come here on Thursdays to listen to live jazz (starts around 7 pm) and endulge in the Thursday happy hour menu. You can find me here at least 2x per month. Happy hour glasses of wine are $6 (ya...6 bucks...what do you expect from Anchorage?) and $6 appetizers. I always go for the gnocchi w/ spinach (done very well) , the tenderloin tips w/ mashed potatoes , and/or the burger and fries (all $6 each). They have been known to overcook the burger, so beware. All in all, it's a nice, safe option for dining in Anchorage. Service is always good, too. This place is a magnet for women going to happy hour in groups of 2-5, as they like the ambiance, the upscale / steakhouse feel. It's a nice joint and a place I like to frequent. Check it out if you're in the area.

Quick comment from 50-yr resident of Anchorage. The top shelf gin is indeed Tanqueray - but it happens to be Tanq's better No. 10 - which makes the standard Tanq seem slightly medicinal in a dry martini. Over the years, Sullivan's has done a mostly superior job with a properly limited menu. For years I've gotten a well-seasoned, properly- (not over-) cooked steak. "Rare" is actually rare - and not medium-rare. (last I checked, you can't uncook a steak) We usually order oysters on the half shell - always suitably fresh - and subject to what's available - which can be quite small in the winter (as one recent diner noted). I see that they no longer offer steak tartare - which they used to do "basic" - salt and pepper only and you get to embellish as you wish. They raised their prices considerably about two years ago - which makes them perhaps 3-1/2 stars instead of a solid four. Waiters tend to be young - with the attendant issues that tends to bring - training is not always evident - and the bar tenders know their own floosy drink menu* but not necessarily classic cocktails - be prepared to instruct if you're particular. I will say that they have rye - which they used to make an acceptable old fashioned. Oddly they don't have Creme de Cassis - necessary for Kir (dry white wine and 'Cassis) and Kir Royale (with sparkling wine). I checked this morning - tonight (Friday night) they will have a local jazz band 7-11PM. *Last I checked the drink menu was "fashionable" - and titled "MARTINIS" - which meant "DRINKS" since none of the "martinis" actually had gin in them! UPDATE 2013MAY31 We went on a Friday Night date. We arrived early - about 6PM. May 31 is on the cusp of tourist season, so I presume when the joint filled by 7:30 most were locals. We shared shrimp cocktail which was accompanied by a first rate red cocktail sauce with suitable heat and pungent with horseradish. Also, tuna tartare. I usually "test" the waiter by describing white or red and have the waiter pick. I asked for "dry white" - "Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay" was her reply - "fine", said I. (This wine used to be impossible to get locally - or my wine buyer lied) Next course was salad - their basic iceberg wedge and a rich bluecheese dressing with a spicy malbec to go with. Main course was blackened halibut for the lady and filet mignon served three ways: (#1) "Louie" style - with crab, aspargus, and bearnaise - (#2) - with peppercorn sauce, (#3) - forget, but all were fabulous - encouraging small bites and sips of wine - this time a cabernet. Sides included asparagus, garlic mashed potatoes, and cauliflower. The restaurant passed two "tests" that evening. First was a gimlet (called a gin sour in Embury's "Fine Art of Mixing Drinks"). I requested this made with Tanq #10 (see above). The bartender made it tart instead of sweet - as it should be. Second test. I requested hollandaise sauce - finished with lemon or vinegar. So-called hollandaise sauce is usually bland and not worth the trouble. This one came back subtly lemon-sour - another test passed. A 25% tip showed us pleased with the evening's effort.

Obviously a good place to go if you are craving a steak but it's a little bit overrated and pricy for what you get off the dinner menu. But the lunch menu is full of good food at reasonable price. As John P. said ya have to try the meatloaf! It is very good (although occasionally a little salty). It has blue cheese in it and a tasty mushroom gravy and some horseradish mashed potatoes. YUM! The wedge with blue cheese dressing and french onion soup are also good choices but the steak salad is my current favorite lunch dish. Not made with the usual sirloin, they use a nice piece of filet on the salad, cooked to perfection. Can't go wrong. If you are on an expense account or out to impress with the fancy digs, get a reservation in the dining room, make a selection off the extensive and impressive wine menu, have a very tasty steak and be ready to plunk down a good chunk o cash. Or, sit in the bar, have some of the same food and a decent pour of wine and save your $$ for the rest of the evening... Live jazz in the bar on certain evenings but it can get a little loud.

This is an update and change to my rating for Sullivan's Steakhouse. The spouse and I went to Sullivan's a couple of months ago for the first time in at least a year and what a disappointment! It was really busy so we ate in the bar. Our meal and the service did not come close to being worth the price, which, with tip, was $135.00 for two people. I understood they were busy, but it was a no-brainer for good management to prepare for a busy night because there was a big event going on downtown. For those prices, even if service is slower because they are busy, there should still be a quality meal. Service was friendly but slow. It also took a long time to get our check just to leave. I ordered a side of asparagus for $9.00 or $9.50 and there were only six small, limp asparagus stalks in the order. When my steak arrived it sat alone, completely ungarnished, looking sadly adrift in the middle of a much too large platter. The kitchen staff made no effort to make its presentation look appealing. There was nothing special about the actual steak either. I will go back for the lettuce wedges with blue cheese dressing, something small in the bar, or for dessert, but I won't order an entire meal at Sullivan's again after that giant rip-off night. I'd rather eat in a small, family-owned place like the many that have sprung up around the city, for a fraction of the price. Plus, I won't risk it for a special occasion either. Too bad. The place used to be better.

I cannot stress this enough, Sullivan's has no idea how to cook steak. I have been there multiple times over the years and they have progressively gotten worse. If you want a good steak in town, find somewhere else to go. Most recently I took some clients there and the experience was absolutely pitiful. The waitress was awful. She had no clue what she was doing. We ordered our steak medium rare and got the medium well. Our sides didn't come out until 45 minutes after our steaks. Our waitress completely abandoned us after we said our steaks were overcooked. A real shame how far this place has fallen. For steak that are in the $30-40 range, it is unexcusable. STAY AWAY!

Terrible - won't be going back. Saw an employee come out of the bathroom without washing their hands. Steak was overcooked and overpriced. I have given this place several chances and every experience has featured overwhelmingly mediocre to rude and indifferent service and a snobbish host.

This place is good for an app and glass of wine during a shopping break from the 5th Avenue Mall, but the steaks are overrated. We started with the cheesesteak eggrolls, I got a cabernet, and dining companion got a diet coke. I ordered the Filet Oscar, that came with a minute amount of crab, asparagus, and topped with a bearnaise sauce. My dining companion got the Cowboy Ribeye, a rub. We shared sides of horseradish mash and mac and cheese as these steaks don't come with anything else then what is listed. For the price the steaks should have been a lot better, even if you have to pay for the sides, but alas they were not. My steak was a little tough for a filet, and the cowboy rub was so overwhelming it was like eating a salty bowl of chili. The wedge salad had good blue cheese dressing, and the warmed roll came with whipped butter, which is a nice touch. Total bill came to $133, which is standard for a nice meal, but since this wasn't I will not eat dinner here again. I'll stick to the appy and wine in the bar.

Came a little early for dinner so we had to sit in the bar, dining room not opened yet, it was 4:30pm. 6 others in the bar 4 were eating the other two drinking. We had put an hours worth into the parking meter. Waited for just over ten minutes before one of the two bartenders made eye contact. He then had the nerve to ask if we'd been helped yet? That idiot watched us walk in!! He came back after another ten minutes with our drinks and asked if we were ready to order. We became somewhat irritated with the long wait and told him we decided not to eat as it has taken over twenty minutes just to get a drink and we didn't plan on leaving in the middle of our dinner to put more money in the meter!! Had a long time to look at the menu though $50 for a steak only! Starch and salad are extra and they had their own section on the menu. About $10 each. NO WAY. Never been back

This place is a little loud but a great choice for a casual date. Live music is often available at the bar and is always a good time.

Stopped here with a friend on my first night in Anchorage, 3/3/2011. Service was prompt and friendly and the appetizers very generous; we made a meal out of them. Really enjoyed the jazz music. Hope to visit again one day.

Went here for our engagement dinner. I had the ribeye and it was hella good. I think our server was new because she brought us warm champagne and then we never saw her again. I think we actually ended up with at least 3 different servers that night.. Not sure what was going on. Great happy hours!! 3 stars for the service and 4 for the food. 2 for the warm drinks.. :o)

I am going to have to steal a quote from another reviewer, "the only premium is the price." That pretty much sums it up, but I'll add more details, just in case you need convincing. Our service was not only poor, I would say it was some of the worst I've ever had, and for the top dollars you are paying, you would expect great service. After our first round of drinks, the waitress never came back to offer more, which we all wanted. We ended up grabbing her as she dropped off the food (each to the wrong person) for more drinks and my boyfriend ended up with the wrong beer (which is odd, since he just wanted the same IPA he had before, but ended up with an Amber). When we informed her of the mess up with the beer, she swooped the Amber away to replace with an IPA about 15 minutes later, but still CHARGED us for the Amber, which they took away. To make things even worse, we didn't notice they charged us for the mistake beer until after we had payed, so she said there was nothing she could do. Being a server for a long-time, I was NOT going to let her get away with charging us for a $6 beer we didn't drink, so we insisted she go check and see if we could at least get a gift card. She resisted for a bit, but finally gave in (and we did end up with a gift card, which will probably go unused). Unfortunately, that's not the end of it. The food, for the most part, was equally as disappointing, aside from the side dishes and dessert. I got the tuna steak entree, which is pretty hard to mess up, but somehow they managed. This is my go-to dish a lot of the time, and I must say, it was the worst I have EVER had, including when I sear my own tuna. Somehow, it was extremely bland, and didn't even look appetizing, a few thin cyanotic slices on a bed of noodles. All I could taste was the pepper that they had encrusted it in. It was like eating a handful of pepper on a piece of bland lunch meat. The noodles had a pretty nice sauce, so I ordered more of that just to choke down the ahi, since it was otherwise inedible. The side dish, caramelized cauliflower was fantastic and the only thing worth what we paid for it. My boyfriend said his steak was fine and the horse-radish mashed potatoes were good. The warm chocolate cake was pretty good too. Bottom line: not a good place to splurge.

Probably one of the best steak houses I've ever ate at. Great ambiance and friendly staff. We ate here twice and one for New Year's Eve. Had such a great time, especially with our surrounding guests that made it fun. Felt like one big party. The one big thing concern for me was our food was behind and so was our dessert. I like things to come more in a timely manner. Other than that, this place is a great steak house. Great drinks too!

My friend and I ate here cause I was wanting a steak. Boy, did I get a steak. Though a bit pricey than most steak houses in AZ, it was the best for AK. Now I had my fair share of steaks but this steak was prepared to my liking. The restaurant was quiet big, though I've never seen black comodes (lol), but the way the waitress staff were dressed was a little uncomfortable. Not sure what look they were going for but whatever. And it's connected to the 5th Ave Mall. I would definitely go back for another steak.

My fiance and I have lived in Anchorage for 3 years and had always heard this was one of the nicest places in town. We gave it a shot on a Saturday night and were very disappointed. Even though we made reservations for 8 PM, we still had to wait a few mintues for a table. While waiting, I ordered a beer from the bar, but was served a beer other than the one I ordered. In no particular sequence, here's a list of the issues we had during dinner: Positive: 1) They have some excellent craft cocktails, to include the Knockout and Creamsicle Martinis. Negative: 1) The bread came out long after the appetizer and just shortly before the meal. 2) I ordered the KC Strip and nowhere on the menu did it say that it would be completely doused in pepper, but it was, almost to the point where it was inedible (and I'll typically eat anything). 3) For sides, we wanted the horseradish mashed potatoes and the asparagus with hollandaise. They were out of the asparagus, so we got the creamed spinach, which was probably the only decent part of the meal. 4) The horseradish mashed potatoes didn't come out until we were almost finished with our meal. My fiance stopped finishing her meal so she could save room for them. When they came out, they were more horseradish than potato. We barely ate any of them, then got attitude from a waiter when we told him that we didn't need it wrapped up. 5) Upon inspection of the check, there was a, "Warm Chocolate Cake," added to it, which we did not order or eat. I would not go there again, nor can I recommend it to anyone else.

The fish specials were very good, and the steak good - standard for pricey steakhouses. Music terrible (live music and recorded music played at the same time). Service was slow. We had to get a bus boy to find our waiter to bring us the bill. We split the bill - used 2 credit cards which were on the table when the waiter finally came with our check. He whipped up the cards and walked off. We did not get a chance to review the bill. Price seemed right, so we signed the bill and got up to leave. As we walked out of the dining room, the waiter informed us that he had made an error and that we still owed $56.00, My sister stayed to try to sort out the reason - she never understood. In the meantime, our guests and I waited so long at the entry way, I asked to speak with the manager. Bottom line for us, they charged an extra glass of wine - the waiter did not remove from the bill - the manager did. And worse yet, we had to pay $35.00 parking fee because we were delayed by the mess in the restaurant. NEVER AGAIN!

I got salmon...in Alaska. You think it might taste good? Boy did it. The service was great. The bar was swanky and stocked. I only drank scotch, so I can't say there's much skill in tending that. There was one dude who sat at the bar that seemed to know everyone. Everyone seemed to know him too. Being near him was like watching an episode of Cheers unfold. I am glad my seafood experience in Alaska was great. I'll definitely come back here if I am ever in Anchorage again.

As good as it gets - no doubt about it. Not a casual eating establishment but perhaps a place where a suit and tie would be more appropriate. I am not butcher nor am I a chef, however these are two things that are by no means foreign to me and I consider myself an enthusiast when it comes to meat. They have a supply of some of the finest meats I've ever had served in public. Exquisite marbling, beautiful cuts; their steaks must be USDA Prime or better. The steak I had was made with skill, love and style. I've eaten a lot of steaks and this was in the top 5 I've ever had public or private. My entire meal here was excellent with no complaints or gripes (outside of not being able to find the bathroom for a bit). The decor and lighting is something akin to 1920's finery. The staff was quiet and on the spot for everything. In fact, only my waitress, the hostess and the manager were the only ones who said or made eye contact. The service truly felt like you were being served. While on the pricey side and a bit intimidating possibly for some, Sullivan's is the place that I would eat at everyday if I could afford to. Parking isn't too bad since its in the mall but still suffers from the same downtown vows as most. Eating here is like going back in time atmosphere wise. This is the best food I've had in Anchorage - I'll reserve this as my #1 place until something else comes along. Postscript: They have house made ginger-ale, the best I've ever had! I've never heard of such a thing.

Very good food. Service is great also. Sat in the bar area instead of the main dinning area. They have live music in the bar area and also offer discounts on the food offered in the bar during happy hour but also still offer the full menu.

I love this place, good steaks, good lunches. I have yet to have bad food here. The biggest challenge for me here was when I first tried this restaurant I was introduced to the Lettuce Wedge for the first time. Man is there a right way to eat this thing? Tasted great but felt odd eating salad with a fork and knife. The oddest part is from the inside you would never know it was in a Mall...

Its a standard, upscale chain steakhouse. The meat is well prepared, the cocktails are strong and make properly and the service is professional. It's located close to the performing arts center and makes for a good pre-event spot for drinks.

"The Knockout"...I was not a fan of the martinis until I had this drink! It was so divine, I should have ordered another one instead of dessert. My husband and I celebrated Valentine's day the weekend after the holiday and it was still very, very busy. Even though they were slammed, the waiter and wait staff had their game faces on. Very friendly, no pressure for us to hurry. It was a great evening. I don't eat a lot of meat and when I do, it better be awesome. I have NEVER had a bad steak there. If you want a special occasion meal, come for dinner. Lunch is a different story. I can have a salad, french onion soup, and fresh hot bread for under $12.00. YUM!

It has been years since I've been to Sullivans... I usually go in TX. After a 7 day cruise I decided I needed a great steak. Boy did I find one! Had the spicy ribeye and three cheese macaroni as a side. I finally found a restaurant that can season a steak better than I can! Kudos on this recipe. The mac and cheese was also to die for. Now, with that said... the service was below sub-standard. Unortunately our waiter chose to spend his time w/ a table of 4 that was clearly a 300-400 dollar table. Had to remind on iced tea.... clearing table of salad plates... and finally bringing our check. He also had not fully explained "the special" that was not on the menu and was $10 higher than the normal ribeye. Guess where I recovered that $10? I frequent Ruth's Chris, Emerils and Capital Grill. While the food was right up there... I can get better service at IHOP. Now, I'm not going to name this waiter. This waiter if reading this knows th issues. My hope is that he will learn something from this experience and my writing. I will certsainly go back to Sullivans for steak and the service in this one instance will not in anyway hinder future purchasing decisions. Keep up the great cooking!!

Date with the gf here. I was pretty satisfied despite the triple digit bill. But for the places around the service, setting, and menu here was upscale/decent and my filet mignon was mouth watering enough, I don't mean to say that's what she said.

Should be 0 stars really. Made a reservation for a Valentine's Day dinner with a group of friends and ended up waiting for an hour. Decided to just leave in the end. Worst customer service from the staff also. Never coming back here again.

We were excited to try Sullivan's, but we're not excited to go back. The service was on par, but the food was lacking. We went on New Years Eve, so there was a limited, set menu like most places on Dec 31st. We started with the crab cake and cheesesteak egg roll apps (both good, highly rec the egg rolls). My GF got the filet (over cooked), and I got the NY strip (cooked perfectly). I ordered mine Oscar style, which means covered in asparagus and lump crab. They ran out of asparagus though. Mushroom and spinach sides were nothing special. Bananas Foster Bread pudding was a good desert, but they ran out of ice cream so I'm sure it's usually better. With a set menu, I'm surprised they ran out of items. We don't mind paying $$$ for good cuisine, but this food is nothing special and not worth the price. Still, it's a good spot for special occasions; you won't look like an idiot if you dress up a little, though there are always enough people with ball caps and jeans if you want to go casual.

Food was good but did not knock my socks off. What made me want to give only 3 stars was the in your face service that Sullivan's staff provides. They were very keen on helping out with EVERYTHING, but there comes a point where it is a little overwhelming. Our servers were almost bouncing off the walls with fake excitement. I think our dinner would have tasted better if we had a different waiter. To be fair, he seemed new and maybe he was just a little too eager to give good service. Overall, not a bad spot.

  • John P.

I'll give them 5 stars, for the most obvious reasons. They can get spendy, but not as bad as other places in town. If you want a steak, and one you cherish while you are eating it, and licking the fork, knife, plate and napkin for the last of the flavor....then you have found the place. The shrooms and horseradish potato's make a good side, with the blue cheese wedge for a starter. Run you about 58.00 bucks, but worth it. (That's spendy to me, but good for a treat). The Bar and lunch menu are great values, so be sure to check them out! Look for the meatloaf during the week, you read that right, the meatloaf!! They refuse to divulge their secret, but its good stuff! They have an outstanding Wine List, and the temps for the wine are always right. (Yea I know $$$$, but its once in awhile!!!) You can't miss it, 5th Ave. Mall, on the corner. Worth the trip, ESPECIALLY at Lunch!

If you are looking for the familiar Sullivans experience that you can get in most major cities, it is the same experience here. Nicer atmosphere, I would almost say the highest end dining for Anchorage. Besides my all time favorite Kincaid Grill in Anchorage. The bar looked nice, we enjoyed the live jazz music in the dining area. It looked busy and entertaining enough, I would have liked to stay for a while. The service was outstanding. My only complaint is that the hostess didn't offer to let us know about the coat check, we were over bundled. Our server couldn't had offered or served us any better. I wish other restaurants would take note. My only need to give only 4 stars is that it wasn't an out of ordinary experience and the typical Sullivan experience that you can have in any other location. I had the Salmon Hong Kong Style, essentially having a soy sauce that didn't need a doggy bag to take home because there wasn't much left. My co worker had steak oscar style, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We shared the escargot as an appetizer and loved the garlic and butter. The wedge salads are your typical experience. This is the place to go for a formal business dinner, nice occasion, etc.

Excellent place to take a date or hold a business dinner. Most locals I know will rate Sullivan's in their top five "best steaks" in town. This restaurant is located on the first floor of the 5th. Avenue mall and is within walking distance of the Performing Arts Center. The location makes it perfect choice for night out with that special someone. The wait staff is extremely attentive and friendly. They serve a drink called the "Knock Out" which is a pineapple infused vodka martini. I highly recommend it. They also have an extensive wine list. Whenever my boss comes to town he must eat at Sullivan's -as a result I dine here many times a year. The service and food are very consistent and the manager visits our table at least once during the evening. The front of the house and kitchen both seem to have their act together. Although Sullivan's is known for their steaks, they also have a very nice selection of local seasonal seafood dishes. It is a bit expensive but you get what you pay for and I doubt you will leave disappointed. Highly recommended menu items; The Knock Out. (Pineapple Vodka Martini) Jumbo Scallops in Thai Sauce Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer Fried Calamari appetizer Any steak Oscar style Cajun Ribeye Salad Wedge with Blue Cheese Dressing Creamed Spinach

Just how good is this place? I would FLY here just to have a filet mignon. This might have been the best piece of steak I have ever had. It was perfectly cooked at medium rare, and was so tender, I could have used my fork (or a butter knife) to cut it. The salad was kind of weird, and the portions a bit too big, but the french onion soup was the best I have ever had. The place has this huge wine rack, so the location (Alaska) doesn't impede that selection. Yeah, it's located in a mall, but other than that, the waitresses were beautiful, the food great, the atmosphere just right.

  • Yo U.

Sullivan's continues to get much of it right, but it's still not quite at the point of excellence. On my last visit, my order came out of the kitchen well-done instead of the requested rare. My server acknowledge that it was nowhere even close to being rare and offered to have it prepared a second time, but I declined, noting that I was on my lunch hour and didn't have time for that. In well-run places, when the kitchen messes up something as simple as this and the offer to prepare the order anew is declined because of time constraints, the customer is comped his or her meal. Sullivan's failed to do that on this occasion, and for that, I am deducting a star from my previous three-star review. Don't get me wrong -- I continue to like the place and I will return again; I just wish that simple kinks like this were sorted out.

We decided to take advantage of a coupon that the restaurant sent out to us earlier in the week. 3 couples set a reservation for 8 pm. We did not get set till 8:45. Lucky for us we purchased our round of drinks at the bar, because we did not see a server for about 10 minutes. Even though most of the other patrons were already served our food came out rather slow. We had to wave down another server because ours disappeared. Bread was served after appetizers and salad. Steak came out awesome. I suggest the aged bone in rib eye. Best steak I have had in a while. No one at the table had a bad thing to say about the food at all. As they cleared the table we had asked to get the girlfriends food in a to go container. Then the search for the disappearing server was on again! They ended up throwing out the left overs. Frustrating service all around. None of the servers were pleasant to us. More like we were invading there space buy being there.

I had the Salmon, it was pretty good. The service was okay, they would leave for a long time and I thought they had forgot about me. All the females servers had on short mini shirts with fishnet stockings, I thought it was cute. Very expensive, but worth it.

This is a great place for lunch--reasonably priced lunch specials and you leave feeling very satisfied. But I would not recommend it for dinner. The atmosphere is nice and the service is usually at least decent, but the food isn't that great. The steaks are okay, not great, and the sides are completely uninspired. Its way overpriced for dinner but, like I said, it is a good spot for a fancy lunch.

I would give 4.5 stars if I had the option. The first time we went we had the most awesome Oysters Rockefeller - it's an all time favorite and always ordered upon each visit. We usually go in for $29.00 special, as we are somewhat limited in the dining out budget. However, it has all been good except for once. Sometimes once is enough to make me never want to return but it just wasn't that bad and it was most likely a fluke. The steak is much liked by my husband and the salmon is delicious but surprising enough I LOVE the chicken, even though chicken hasn't been my favorite - it might be changing. There is good service here and the low lit lovely dining area is quiet relaxing. OH! I love the blue cheese wedge salad, we have had the horseradish mashed potatoes and mushroom caps as well very yummy.

Had martini's and meatloaf at the bar last night. I liked the live jazz and the atmosphere. I had the drink with the pineapple infused vodka and I don't know if I'd get it again. It was a little too sweet. A dirty vodka martini would have been better. The meatloaf was very good!

I go here at least once a trip out to Anchorage, usually following some shopping at Nordstroms. I have to admit I always sit in the bar and usually order from the bar menu. The menu is extremely reasonable and boasts the best burger in Anchorage. Not sure about that.. but the burger is decent. I really liked the peppercorn steak tips (?) and instead of their horseradish mashed potatoes i substituted it with their creamed spinach which is SO GOOD. Most of the items on this cheaper menu are good and a great deal for the $. This is also my favorite place if I'm traveling alone adn still want to get a quick decent meal.. and wine of course.

Went to Sullivan's last night to enjoy their happy hour. I had been talking it up to my husband and finally got him to go. Oh my. DISASTER. So they've completey changed their Happy Hour menu pricing. The bar menu was 1/2off, now it's all menu items $6. Sounds good, but the most expensive item is $9. And the martini menu that was buy one get one free, now its two drink are special $6 each all others regular price. Okay, we agreed to these terms. Ordered the steak tips and chips, and two drinks (not the special drinks). The manager got to talking to us and comped us our second round. But when the bill came, they charged us for the second round and charged full price for the Happy Hour Bar menu items. We got it fixed. But that's not the end of it. My girlfriend met up with us, and my husband went home leaving us girls chat. We had a terrible time getting any service. I literraly had to grab a waiters arm to order our dinner. Even after that we were ignored. They said something about our table having been turned over to the bar? So no waitress? Huh? The manager told us "i'll comp your dinner's." My girlfriend wanted to get dessert, so I had to track someone down to get menu's. I had to track someone down to place the order. And won't you believe it I had to track someone down to get us our bill. And YUP! What do ya know? our bill we were fully charged for the happy hour bar menu food items and nothing comped. So I'm thinking this is their new mode of operation. The only good thing was the food was still as good as it was before. I won't be going back.

This was the final dinner before our flight home from our vacation and we were very disappointed. As a favor to a friend I bought her gift certificate from her. My husband and I each got crab legs and his were served to him still frozen. His halibut special for the day that they made to replace the crab was rushed through and slightly raw still. I guess we should have gotten steak instead. Service was great though!

love the place--the best steak in town. the atmosphere is old time steak restaurant, but the wait staff is downright nice here. the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. the salad (1/4 head lettuce) is terrific. you can have different dressings if you don't get into bleu cheese. the hash brown potatoes are fantastic, but half the time they are out of them. the desserts are wonderful as well. i stop in every time i am in town.

Sullivan's Steakhouse is as good as it gets. I love going there for lunch and dinner. The atmosphere and hospitality are the best in Anchorage. Oh and the steaks just melt in your mouth. They certainly live up to to the award of Best Steak in Anchorage! Don't forget the banana foster bread pudding. It is Fantastic! The wine list is incomparable in Anchorage. We will be back often.

Ok, so yeah it is a bit pricey but it is well worth the money. The first time I ate here I thought 'How good could it be, it is in the mall'. It was great. I recommend the calamari. It is some of the best I have ever had. I absolutely love the decor and the food is some of the best in town. A great place for locals and tourists alike.
