Panchos Villa, it was surprisingly good but if you are lactose intolerant/sensitive this place could be your nightmare. I loved the atmosphere and the decor! There are random pictures that adorn each tables wall. The service was great, the food was filling. I love love chile rellenos but I am picky and although this place did not fulfill that expectation, I will revisit. The fried ice cream was alright, it is served in a tostada bowl which I thought was kind of cool. (Kind of, being that I am not going to eat the bowl so it was nice, I guess.) I will revisit. And on my next visit, I will have to try their tamales!

While, I would consider myself an avid mexicana food enthusiast, this is just how others like Angie M. have described as "Americanized Mexican Food". They are definitely great with their flavor, but i'm not feeling anything really like I jumped on a plane and went to Mexico and got that food from the great grandmother of the family. It's that few steps up from just normal mexican food. I am still dumbfounded on the prices for mexican food here in Anchorage. I know rents are high and we want our fair share of wealth, but seriously $15-$16 average for a three taco plate? I settled for the choose two combo which by the way is $11.75 if you want three its $13.25 or $13.50. I got the burrito and chimichanga with all rice. Both were yummy as was the rice. I wish the chimi was more crispy, it seemed like it had just been dropped for about 2 seconds. The chips are great and the salsa just OK. I do like the atmosphere here. I do have to say when you pull up its kindof like which door do you choose? Go to the far right door :)

Wow. Simply Awesome authentic Mexican Food. I am an Arizona Native & this place has it on point. From the Outstanding Patron Silver Margaritas to the simply amazing plates. Don't hesitate to try this place.

I have lived here for 18 years. We have one favorite Mexican place to go to and we wanted a sit down Mexican place to eat at. I yelped and found this place highly rated. From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall, but the best places always do, definitely in Alaska! The strawberry lemonade was amazing, freshly made and free refills! The salsa and chips are free and great. The meals were huge and hot! The only complaint was that for the toppings for the burritos you have to pay $4 for cheese and sour cream and tomatoes. On top of the $13 you already pay for the burrito. You almost pay $20 for a burrito, that is a little extreme. The staff was super nice! I am sure we will be back!

Best tacos in town. They do something special with the taco shells. I've been to other places in town and the shells are just like the kind you can buy at the store but not at Pancho's. Which makes them way better in my opinion.

The food was awesome. Delicious pork Verde and by far the best taco salad I have ever had. The Pancho's Sampler is very generous and gives you a taste of all your fried favorites. The food isn't the only great thing about this place either. The service is friendly and prompt. They really take care of you.

Love it here!! Food is more authentic than Gallos or Taco Kings or any other mexican restaraunt in town! (El Rodeo is good too) Also the waitresses are super friendly!! Recommend to anyone with taste for good food!!

SUPER GOOD AUENTIC MEXICAN!! Coming from Ca, we know our Mexican food :) we came in pretty late, an hour before closing, but the waitress was super nice and not rushing us at all. They gave hearty portions and tasted just like from your Mexican friends baptism :) the decor inside is a little cheap, but its cute and gets the feel of an outdoor villa complete with bud light banners. We will definitely be back soon!!

Ay Yai Yai!!! Excellent Mexican American food. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. We go there to get out of the sun. There are no windows and it is sort of dark. The rice and bears are excellent. The carne asada tacos are excellent. I'd highly recommend the carnitas and grab a margarita while you are there.

This was just a 3 for me. Okay, a 3.5 because they had fresh jalapeños I asked for on the side. Chips were nice and thin, but the salsa was just okay. I had the carnitas, very good. A couple of others in our group had the chicken poblano. Interesting poblano pepper cream sauce. We all had a house margarita. I should have gone top shelf because the house tequila used wasn't very good. Shame on me. The service was way above standard, and I would return partly for that reason.

The best, made in-house tortilla chips and salsa! I loved their chx chipotle meal as well! Can't be beat, probably the best Mexican in town.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant I've been to so far. In comparison to Gallos and La Mex, Pancho's is a lot better. Everything I've tried here is cooked to perfection and has great flavor. They don't try to short you in sauce, chips, meat or anything like how other Mexican restaurants do. The service is great and the prices are fair. I wish the parking lot was bigger but other than that, I go here first for my Mexican food cravings.

We'll I came in and was sat pretty quickly. I ordered the queso spinach dip and the Tamale combo with 2 pork tamales, Spanish rice, and refried beans! The tamales were ok and so was the rice, but the beans had that taste if they were a few days to many in the fridge(spoiled)! I had two bites of the beans and it started to bubble! I finished my tamales and was gone! I do want to say the staff is the reason for the stars "very friendly"

Who would have thought that great Mexican food could be found so easily in Alaska??? This place is efficient, reasonably priced, and very tasty. If you have a hankering for Mexican when in Anchorage this is definitely the place to hit up. The margaritas are also worth a taste...or two...or three ;-) As a side note they also sell gift certificates, as we purchased one for our Alaska host since he loves visiting this place every Friday.

Came down for the weekend from Fairbanks and I had really been craving what I call "lower 48 Mexican food." Pancho's did not disappoint! Saw reviews here that said the spinach queso was top notch, and boy they were right! It was totally delicious. My better half, whose sphincter tightens when he hears the words "jalapeño", "pepper", or "spicy", was very nervous to try it since it said it was made with jalapeño cheese, but even his toddler tastebuds could handle it. I ordered the half nachos with chicken and it was a huge, delicious looking plate. My only critique is the choice of shredded cheese melted on top instead of the queso that I was used to when I lived in the lower 48. Can't beat that queso. Mm. The nachos were topped with jalapeños, but not the dinky little slices! No, these were 1-2 inch long STRIPS. And they were delicious. I also had a carrot on my plate that had been marinating with the jalapeños. Sounds insignificant, I know, but I've had authentic Mexican in the lower 48 and only one place (coincidentally, my favorite place) has ever had those spicy carrots. That one carrot made my freakin day. My better half had the chipotle chicken which he said was awesome. I was too busy swimming in the spinach queso bowl to try it though. Also, the salsa was BOMB!!!

Not much to say about the outside...absolutely no curb appeal. In fact, with no windows and a heavy wooden door, one might conclude they are walking into an, ummm, adult establishment. Once inside, the missing curb appeal is still, well, missing. But the food is outstanding, especially the chips--they were like crack! I could've made a meal out of the chips & salsa alone. But, as usual I ordered a pile of food but filled up on the chips thus eating very little of the main course. I guess my only real complaint is they didn't offer Horchata. But I'll be back!

My family has been coming here since the 70's! I literally have been going to Pancho's since I was born, and I'm glad. The food is always great and the waitresses are friendly and attentive. The have pretty good chips and salsa, and you can't go wrong with their tacos or enchiladas.

I've been coming here for years, when the bar was smoking, then after the ban. I really like most of the items. Stardard tex mex, with some amazing traditional items. The chips and salsa are the best in town. The best! I usually order a milagro margarita called a Dawnarita-after the bartender, which is like 75 cents upgrade from the grande. Worth it! I usually eat vegetarian or seafood when I go there. I order off the combo menu or get a specialty when I'm going to treat myself. My all time favorite chilled soup: Coctail des camarones- a shrimp soup coctail, divine with the lime. The decor is what you could expect, slightly cheesy 80s to 90s booths, light mexican music in the background, and the wait staff is one of the best in town. It's a conundrum that you get better service here than at ORSO where the ticket prices are 2-3 times more. One of the best kept secrets, which isn't much of one when you hit it during lunch or right around 5.30PM.

This Mexican restaurant is a good place to have a quick mex fix. The food is nothing out of the ordinary but it still taste good. Prices are a little bit high for quality but not unaffordable . The building could use some remodeling on the outside to make it look more inviting.

Don't get the nachos! Shudder. Maybe other things on the menu are better... but really, nachos are pretty hard to screw up :/ I went to Panchos for the first time on a mission to satisfy a nacho craving, but I ended up disappointed. Honestly the worst nachos I have ever had. The chicken on top was greasy, there was waaaay too much cheese (my chips were stale and soggy), and there were some strange pickled veggies on top. What the heck? Pickled veggies? That's what I thought. I don't think I'll be going back here.

Went here recently with a friend and had a fantastic time. We both had the carnitas, which tasted authentic and had a lot of flavor. Although the decor is certainly past its prime this did not reflect on the food or the fantastic service. The chips were great, and the margaritas so nice because they weren't all sugary and gross like a lot of places in town. Also, the bartender Donna knew all about any tequila we asked her about. She was one of the best things about that place. I highly recommend this place.

Funky little place, hardly visible from the street. I had to walk around the outside to find the hidden "front" door in the back. Pleasant ambiance, although quite dark. (I always wonder when a restaurant is dark: "What are they hiding?") I found out they had no whole beans, only refried. Come on, it's Mexican! They had a dearth of vegetarian choices, my usual favorite, so I ordered a chicken taco salad. It was ok, except the edible "bowl" hadn't even been warmed and was tough. My friend had a spinach enchilada, which he seemed to like.(I didn't ask, but he ate it all.) Apparently the drinks are this place's strong suit, but the food, ehh.

My fiance and I have been on the hunt for decent Mexican food since moving back to Anchorage. The usual recommendations of good places to hit around town usually end up being disappointing. The Burrito/Taco Kings around town are very good, but lack the sit down atmosphere that is one of the main reasons we like to go out to eat anyway. We have been to PV's a few times and really enjoy it. The wait staff is extemely friendly and the booth seating is comfy. The menu is jam-packed with tasty south of the border delectibles that are sure to cater to just about anyone with a hankering. The food is a little bit spicy and the portions are very plentful. Prices are just reasonable. Goods: *portions *service *atmosphere So So's: *Maybe too spicy for some *Not cheap (but not TOO expensive) Check out Pancho Villa's if you are searching for decent Mexican. Also, let me know if you think there's something better around town. I'm always looking for comparison....

It's not the best I've ever had, but no where NEAR the worst. The food is delicious, although it does have a touch more spice than I like. For those who aren't in the know, REAL Mexican food isn't spicy... it's flavorful. The staff is outstanding, and very attentive. This is the best Mexican food I've found in the city. Go... you won't be disappointed, unless, of course, you truly believe Taco Bell is Mexican food. :)

Both reviewers are wrong, there are no clubs and there is no smoke. That said, Pancho's is full of friendly faces dishing up tasty Mexican food and a heavenly scratch Margarita. After having lived most of my life in Austin and San Antonio, Texas, I have been really spoiled on Mexican food to say the least. I've lived in Alaska since February of this year and was recommended this restaurant by a coworker after trying out 3 other Mexican food places I wasn't too impressed with. This one is by far the best one in the Anchorage area I've had. Nothing tastes like it was made for a buffet bar, all nice and fresh, the enchiladas, rice, guacamole, salsa, and refried beans are made just like I like them! Only downside: I've had heartburn both times after having eaten there and the food is just a bit too spicy. For being outside the lower 48, very impressive!

Coconut margarita! Need I say more?! This place is fast, friendly and delicious! I had chile verde and I was very happy with it.

My friend had a spinach enchilada, which he seemed to like.(I didn't ask, but he ate it all.) Apparently the drinks are this place's strong suit, but the food, ehh.

gut-busting, fart-inducing mexican food. really like the chicken flautas and cheese enchiladas. but you have to walk thru the smoke filled bar to be seated.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
