Everyone on my party thoroughly enjoyed their meal. They clearly used quality ingredients and excellent combinations of spices. We will be coming back.

Quite the polished little gem hiding out in an un-assuming stripmall/business park! There is no other place in Anchorage quite like this. It's pretty fancy: tablecloths, intimate ambiance, wine list, knowledgeable wait staff. But it's a style of food that, unfortunately, doesn't get this treatment enough: Mediterranean food. I'm not expert on what, exactly, "Mediterranean" food is. You can think of it like Greek + Middle Eastern. Or...if you're a dork...sort of like the Ottoman Empire. (if you're not, google it) Anyway, it's good. It includes things like: lamb, rice, parsley, rosemary, oregano, thyme, sage, and saffron. I got the shish kebab. The meat, rice, and veggies were perfectly-cooked. I was just left wanting more. I wish there were, at least, double the veggies. I'll be back, but not as often as I'd like. Not much food for the high prices.

S&T We are regulars @ Aladin's restaurant and it is always wonderful. The family that owns the restaurant offers the best service and food! They are friendly and professional, from service to a fabulous dining experience. We highly recommend this restaurant for all occasions!

We came here on a Friday night and just walked in, they asked if we had a reservation and we said no... They seemed a little unsettled about it, but looked around and we sat within 15 minutes. They're bread is really good and I recommend getting their tea. It's a little sweet, but very delicious!! The owner seemed to know a lot of the customers, so we felt a little left out not getting the special treatment. Their calamari is really good, probably top 7 in anchorage and we almost always get calamari at a new restaurant. It's what we use to grade them. The service was quick, friendly and professional. Seems like the owner runs a tight ship! I had a combo plate and my husband had the gyro. His was super good, moist and perfect. Mine was ok. The meats were a bit dry, but maybe I don't have enough experience with Mediterranean cuisine. I was on the fence between a 3 and a 4 with this place... I'd say a 3.6. Perhaps I just got the wrong dish. I would come back again and I need to find more Mediterranean food in the area in the meantime!

I LOVE this place. The food is so good. I love the mint tea, the orange chicken, the persian chicken, the kabob, heck what don't I enjoy. They also have a wonderful vegetarian and vegan selection. Probably the best in town. I also love that when you order a vegan dish it doesn't automatically mean you need to eat tofu. I recently switch back to being a vegetarian (good bye orange and persian chicken) and this place has the best menu available for dinner. I do wish that they were open more. I tried to have my birthday dinner, but they were closed, and it seems that every time my family comes down to Anchorage, they are closed. The parking is a small lot but workable, and they do take reservations. They have an excellent wine list. This is a must go place.

My wife and I decided to eat at Aladdin's for our 20th anniversary. We showed up without a reservation and was promptly seated. The appetizers, soup and our meals were excellent. The mixed grill and the shwarma were our choices. We will definitely eat there again.

Wow....first off, the owner Ramab (spelling?) spends time with every table. It is amazing to learn about his family and their contribution to our community. He goes out of his way to teach skills to individuals that may not otherwise have the resources to seek out opportunity. They have just celebrated the restaurants 21st anniversary! As far as the feel of the restaurant, it's like the family invited you over for dinner. Very warm, friendly and attentive to the customer's experience. The food was outstanding. My husband and I started with Arabic mint tea. Appetizer, saag paneer (amazing spice - but not too hot even though it says spicy). Main course - lamb tajin and the vegetarian platter. I can't say enough here. The dolmas were crazy good, the falafel was homemade, hummus delish. The lamb tajin...seriously?! Spices mixed with the sweet of the pear were insane. The lamb was cooked perfectly. Outstanding flavor combination. We wrapped it up with Turkish and Arabic coffee while sharing the homemade lemon ice cream. Let's just say....the whole experience was fantastic and being long time Alaskans, I can't believe this was our first time eating here. We now have a new regular spot. Thank you to Ramab and his family for creating such a wonderful place for so many to enjoy.

My girlfriends and I were very excited to try this place out and it was a major let down. We got our drinks right away but the server didn't come back for nearly 40 minutes to take our order. One of my friends ordered appetizers as her entrees (which she specifically told the server it would be her meal) and they arrived first. And then we had to wait a long time again to get the rest of our food. Come to find out that they weren't serving our meals because they were waiting for the appetizer plates my friend ordered to be clear! There is nothing more frustrating than arriving in a big group (6 of us) and another big group gets their food before our table. I don't think I'd ever go back. Food was OKAY (not even worth taking pictures of, haha), prices were too expensive, and service wasn't that great.

Aladdin's is an amazing rustic restaurant with a traditional Greek and Mediterranean menu. When we left Alaska, Aladdin's was one of the family friendly establishments we wished we could take with us. Raba and his family treat everyone one so well and the dining experience is first rate. My wife's favorite is the peppercorn veal. It is so tender and flavorful that you'll never forget it. The wonderful mint tea is dreamy and sweet. My favorite appetizer is the grilled calamari and every dish I ate at Aladdin's was memorable. Always take your time, enjoy the atmosphere and always try the tajins.

Love the mint tea! Delicious cuisine, pleasant atmosphere, and a wonderful family running the restaurant. Such good people. I am missing being close enough to patronize this place.

This evening was my first, but not last visit to Aladdin's. The owner and all the staff are charming. The atmosphere is warm, clean and inviting. The food is expertly prepared and full of perfectly balanced flavors. What a gem! I made a conservative choice and tried the moussaka. Even the pickiest eater would love their moussaka. My brother ordered the lamb and pear tajin. I don't eat lamb. I have never liked it, but I have to have that lamb and pear tajin the next time I visit. It is tender and with just enough sweetness to highlight the savory seasoning. I wanted to steal my brother's plate, but I didn't think I could eat both dinners and still have room for dessert. :-)

This place is really cute inside. However, the best part is you walk inside! The staff there seem to be one family, so I'm assuming that its a family owned business. All of the dishes are incredible! I had the grape leaves, and they were so good. I also ordered the Lamb cuscus. This dish's smell honestly reminded me of Christmas time. And it was really good too. I highly recommend this restaurant to locals or visitors in Anchorage. It is an authentic place to eat. Also the service is great, and the staff are very friendly.

I have only been to Aladdin's once, but it definitely made an excellent first impression. My fiance and I walked in and greeted immediately by the friendly staff. Our service throughout the meal was very welcoming; it is a place that makes you feel like family. We ordered the grilled calamari steak as an appetizer, and it was cooked perfectly. I had the lamb shish kebab for my entree, and it was flavored perfectly. The beer and wine selection wasn't large, but they had some great choices in each category (fiance had beer, I had wine). We are looking forward to our next visit!

I went to this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend who loves it. I can't say I liked it as much. It is an attempt at fine dining - but other than white table cloth tables - it didn't match the prices they charge. The meals were really expensive to me - mainly chicken and lamb dishes. The Halibut was a pricey $32.00. The service was ok - took a long time to be served and the waiters seemed disorganized. I think the general feeling of the restaurant is family-ish but the prices are way too high for me. I won't be back.

Just excellent. Tried to go a year or so ago and they weren't open until later in the evening. Finally got a chance to go a few weeks ago and it was just everything I hoped for. We've been to Bombay Deluxe twice and they just aren't in the same league as this place. First time I'd ever had shawarma or falafel and they made me lifetime fans. My wife was similarly gaga over the lamb tajin. When we arrived, there was an entire room (the room at the main entrance) empty, and all guests were being seated in what I guess you could call a side dining room. Seemed kinda strange. Except on rare occasions, my wife and I do dinner out only on Saturday nights, and tend to go early to beat any crowds. The five-o'clock open might throw a wrench in our plans slightly, but this is a dinner to schedule your other events around. DEFINITELY going back. Note: I had to edit this review as I named Bombay Deluxe incorrectly.

We were on the search for a different Greek place and ran across Aladdin's. Great experience here. The menu has a lot to choose from and the kids' menu had a nice variety as well. Spanakopita was delicious and everyone's main courses were a hit. They really keep your tea cup full throughout your visit. Indulged in some desserts and liked the lemon ice cream, bread of Tunisia, and rice pudding. Will definitely come back to explore the menu further!

  • Cc M.

This place is overrated . Not fine dining at all, service was horrible. Took 30 mins to seat us, with reservation. 30 more minutes for water. Another hour to take our order. Only to eat mediocre food. Very close to walking out. The dinner took almost 4 hours from beginning to end. Not a great fine dining experience. Owner came buy to apologize, but never compensated for horrible service. Never again.

  • Andrew M.

Family owned and run, the daughters and son of the owners are always friendly, attentive, and professional. Love the food, price is on the higher end, but the quality more than make up for it. Get the Arabic mint tea, you won't be dissapointed!

    (5)
  • Amanda C.

Wow! Perfectly prepared Mediterranean classics and the best spanakopita I've ever eaten. Everything was prepared with care and passion for food-- even down to the Arabic mint tea, poured out with a dramatic flourish. My husband and I love Greek food, so when we found Aladdin's on Yelp while visiting Alaska, we had to give it a try. Tourists, I definitely encourage you to make the effort, as well. The family atmosphere is great-- the servers were friendly and helpful, and the owner very cordial. I can definitely see how people become regulars here.

  • Chamile U.

The service is great. You can tell the owner really cares for his business and customers. He greeted all his customers, he even took our order. The food was good I just wish the gyro meat was not frozen. I am planning on coming back and trying other things on the menu.

  • Kelli K.

We ate there last Friday night and the food was amazing. Chicken parm was incredible, like nothing I've ever eaten. Served with choice of soup or salad, I thought the price was right. Quiet, nice place with attentive staff and the owner working and interacting with customers. It is the kind of place you go and relax, eat slowly and enjoy the company. Will definitely be going back.

Aladdin's is as good as it gets. It is definitely my favorite Anchorage restaurant. Rabah (I probably botched the spelling) is the owner and makes a point to make everyone feel welcome. He greets every table, and will even put your napkin on your lap if you haven't done it yourself by the time he stops by. His wife does all the cooking. Their four kids are usually serving, and have mastered the art of impressive tea-pouring. I cannot say enough good about this place. Try their tomato & blue cheese soup if you get the chance. It is my favorite thing there (though it is only offered as their special on occasion). Their lentil soup is superb as well. Their chicken shawarma, fesanjan, gyros, dolmas... I don't think they make anything that is not top notch.

  • John Z.

Often forget about this place since they went to a 4 day a week schedule a few years back, along with it being hidden out of the way of my normal travels. Always friendly staff (believe most if not all family), attentive but if crowded might be a little slow. Tons of vegetarian/vegan items. Food has never disappointed. Trying to keep it in my memory bank more often.

I love Greek food, and this restaurant is most definitely one of the finest Greek or Mediterranean restaurants I have ever been to. I highly recommend dining here, whether you are visiting Anchorage or have lived here for 10 years. The Arabic mint tea is excellent, as is everything I have tried from the menu. I have eaten here three times now and have left extremely satisfied and happy each time. The owner is very courteous and comes to check on you and make sure you are happy, and is always available to answer any questions you may have about the menu as well, which is rare these days. Overall, I have always received excellent food and service, and the ambiance is great for groups, as well as couples. I am looking forward to my next visit!

Fantastic homemade pita bread! We tried the baba ganoush to start our dinner- YUM. I had the chicken couscous. What it lacked in actual chicken, it made up for in flavor. My husband had the largest gyro I have ever seen- next time I am getting it. He had to take half of it home (and he is a big eater!). Service is very friendly and prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. They were packed on a Friday so maybe reservations are in order?

As many previous reviewers, I've also been going to Aladdin's for years. They are centrally located in a strip mall off of Tudor and Old Seward. Aladdin's is a family-run operation. You are often greeted at the door by one of the owner's daughters or son. Rabah, the owner, often waits a number of the tables himself, and if not that, he almost always checks in at each table at some point during your meal to make certain everthing is to your liking. Aladdin's has a lot of regulars and Rabah and his family go the extra mile to make you feel like family (or better!) when you dine at this establishment. Now for the food! It's all excellent. I've tried nearly everything on the menu and I love it all. Rabah hails from Algeria, which is a country on the Mediterranean sea in North Africa and was once occupied by France, and the food is inspired by Algeria and the culture of the surrounding countries. The hummus is the best I've ever had, the hot mint tea is delicious and you'll never find your cup empty, the lamb shishkebab melts in your mouth. I never, ever leave disappointed or hungry. Things to note: This will not be a quick bite to eat. Prepare for a culinary experience as they make everything to order. Aladdin's is a jewel on the Anchorage restaurant scene and any self-respecting foodie should make the effort to dine at this fine restaurant.

Definitely did not blow me away. We got the merguez sausage and kibi as an appetizer. Not authentic and not what we expected. I got the falafel for dinner and it tasted like fried salty cake balls. All mushy and doughy in the middle :( Maybe compared to the competition in Anchorage it is considered a good place but unfortunately did not satisfy my taste buds. On a good note, the service was great! If you have a craving for Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food in Anchorage, you really only have about 2 choices, so you might try this place for yourself.

Allow me to take a break from the snark and sarcasm that usually define my reviews in order to properly review Aladdin's and do my part to see that this restaurant has all the stars it deserves. Aladdin's is one of the best restaurants in Anchorage. The food is delicious, and ranges from authentic to creative. The fish is always fresh. The spanakopita is hot and flaky. Everything I've ever had here has been perfectly seasoned and cooked. But what really sets this restaurant apart is the service. As other reviewers have stated, it's family run and operated, and, as a customer, you are treated like part of the family. My glass is always kept full, they always remember what I like to order, and the owner always stops to talk and catch up with my family. The chief complaint in other reviews seems to center around their hours. This isn't McDonalds, and I'd recommend giving them a call ahead if you aren't absolutely sure that they're open.

I have been to the Mediterranean. I have to wonder if the individual stating it was not Mediterranean cuisine has ever actually been... I LOVED Aladdin's! I've only been to this restaurant once, but absolutely must return. There were too many fabulous items on the menu for a single trip. The service felt wonderful - never rushed. The waiter waited until we asked for the check before handing it over. I love that! I feel as if they are telling me, "Don't rush off! Enjoy your meal!" Hubby's favorite dessert is baklava, and they make everything onsite. It can be hard to find such a wonderful thing freshly made... yet, here it is! Highly Recommended!

My husband and I love the food here. The owner is incredibly warm and has greeted us every time. We love the Alladins sample platter! The lentil soup is the best I've had yet; and you must finish with the lemon ice cream. Incredible way to finish a meal and refresh your pallet! Best place in anchorage for middle eastern food, hands down. :)

The initial impression made by the dimly lit, elegant dining area was very nice. Then all the servers were prompt and pleasant in their communication. Aladdin's menu includes Greek, French, and Italian cuisine. The food was very well made with wonderful seasoning. I had the dolmas followed by the poulet berbere. Both were full of flavor. All was well done with the only exception being the veg tables which were only slightly overcooked. Dessert, a compote on homemade ice cream, was also delicious. Very much worth a night out. They are closed Sun-Tues and open at 5pm all the other days.

I'm not here to sound mean but if I wanted to eat something that came from Costco I would buy it from there and cook it at home. The prices are horrendous as goes for the food, I would not call this fine dining. The owner seems to be oblivious of what is coming out of the kitchen. I went there yesterday for the very first time and I was so looking forward to having a great dinner. I'm not a award winning Micheline star chef but I can tell the difference when the grape leafs are coming from a can. I've lived in parts of Europe and Asia and eaten at restaurants where it would take months to get a single reservation. I love food, I love it so much that when I cook, my friends say "your happy today" or "your in love". But I can tell the difference from fresh chicken breast to frozen party packs from Costco when my wife had their Poulet De Casablanca. The texture was rubber like and the rice that came with it was very mushy, you might as well give me mashed potatoes if you're going to give me mushy pilaf rice. My lamb shish kebab didn't taste like lamb, more of like BEEF. I asked the waitress, where do the grape leaves (Dolmas) come from - she replies "they are imported in". That a very polite way of saying I got them from Safeways international food isle. Where is the pride, the chefs passion? If I was the owner, I would be ashamed and not walking around smiling and stealing peoples hard earned money. Maybe he should just tell the customers to hand over there wallets and tell them to "sh*t off". I've been in Alaska now for 3 years and I have found that Falafal King is the only place where they make home made entree. Thank you for robbing my hard earned money, Aladdins fine dining. Message to the owner, take pride of what you have. Be more of a leader.

This is easily one of my favorite Anchorage restaurants. The ONLY reason I do not give it 5 stars is because they are closed on Mondays, holidays, and many other days. This is actually because it is a family owned and operated restaurant and I can sympathize. The food is fantastic. Try the tomato soup, assortment of homemade ice creams, the calamari steak appetizer w/ garlic aioli, and pretty much any entree. I actually love the babaganoush since it is not super tahini heavy and really tastes like what you find in Turkey. I was a bit surprised to see it poorly reviewed since I have converted many doubters over to the joy of babaanoush by sending them to Aladdin's. I do prefer a felafel that is not quite as fluffy as those they serve, but it is more a personal preference. Aladdin's has a full bar with beer on tap and if you come often you get very personal service and actually get to know the wonderful family that runs the restaurant.

Amazing! Best middle eastern food in Anchorage. Closest flavors to the amazing food I ate while in Israel and Jordan. The pride this family owned and run business can be see in the genuine smiles and tasted in the food!

  • Adam P.

The appetizer we got was the Brie, and it was served with toasted bread. It was GREAT!! I got the New England Clam Chowder and my wife got the dinner salad with the House Vinaigrette, and both were delicious. I then received my lamb after being asked if we were ready to receive the next course. The lamb was so amazing that it literally melted in my mouth. She got the Poulet Du Sahara and it was to die for. Dessert was Baklava, which we have never had, it was awesome. We never once had to ask to have our drinks refilled, and empty dishes were whisked away before they became an eyesore on the table. I would recommend this restaurant and WILL be going back for more of the outstanding service and the Arabian Mint Tea!!!

  • Kalin P.

Wow, only moderate reviews? WRONG. Aladdins is a great family owned restaurant. The service you receive there is unrivaled. The mint tea there is heavenly and they are very generous with refilling your cup. The seafood, specifically the fish, dishes are incredible. They have many flavorful vegetarian dishes. For those who aren't too sure about the cuisine, they have sample platters with a little of everything (also good for those you cannot decide). The interior is small and intimate. UNLIKE fast food places, they let you eat and enjoy your food here. So, yes, if you are looking for a rushed meal, don't come here. But the place is also kid friendly (I have two wee ones who come with me and there is always at least one small kid there.) They have high chairs and boosters. It is a great place to hold a function as they have an entire room set aside for functions. The only complaint and really perhaps it is a preference, is the veggies, as in mixed veggies, are over cooked. It maybe the way they cook their veggies, but they were too done for my taste, but still tasty.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in town! I come here every year for my birthday. The food is reasonably priced and delicious. I normally order the poulet de Casablanca, but I always eat off of my friends' plates too so I can say with confidence that essentially everything is good (especially the rotating specials). Plus every entree comes with a delicious roll and soup! Try the bread of Tunisia for dessert. I have never had anything like it, and it is AMAZING. The owner is super-friendly, and his kids, who work at the restaurant, are great too. I can't recommend this place enough!

    (5)
  • Betty C.

Jen X is crazy, for I cannot Un-recommend this place enough! The first time I tried visiting Aladdin's was during the week before Thanksgiving and they were closed for the holidays. The second time was in the afternoon, but they were not open for lunch. The third time was on a Tuesday evening, but they're not open then either. Finally, we succeeded - dinner at Aladdin's some night between Wednesday and Saturday. The interior is average for the Anchorage-ethnic-food-in-strip-mall circuit, fake plants, lacy panels, regional knick-knacks. We didn't have a reservation, but we were the only guests in the restaurant, so I was surprised they seated us in the back at the only table without a light. Our servers were very polite, they were not exceedingly prompt, however, though at no point in the evening were more than four tables occupied. The food was a major downer. The baba ghanouj appetizer lacked smokey zang and was almost flavorless. I had been very eager for my vegetarian plate (falafel, hummus, tsatsiki, spanakopita, dolma) but what showed up was a plate of beige grease in a variety of textures. It was the least fresh and most unappetizing vegetarian dish I have ever seen. I don't remember what my date had but he was equally disappointed and had to push grease around just to find the edible part. I had been looking forward to their homemade ice cream, but it was hard to make room for dessert after all that nasty, so we finished our beers and called it good. Aladdin's is only open 16 hours a week and I get the impression that none of the cooking is done fresh. If you like leaving a restaurant feeling your stomach well lubricated and much further in front of you, then this is the place for you.

It's okay. Aladdin's seems to be going for the nice, candlelit, night-out feel, and it's every bit as bland and inauthentic as that might lead you to expect. The decor is somewhat cozy if a little dim and trying hard. The servers were nice enough. The soup was okay, the rolls you could buy at the grocery, the shawarma was tough, the rack of lamb was fine, nothing was at all Mediterranean. You could do better elsewhere for mid-price American fare.

  • Catherine M.

We really liked eating here apart from an annoying couple next to us. The service and food were fantastic! You get salad and bread with the meal which was a nice addition. My fiance had the gyro (it was huge) and delicious. I had a lamb kabob which was also wonderful - can't complain about anything - it was all great! Our water was constantly refilled and the staff was very attentive.

Delightful little place, comfortably elegant, delicious food-Indian and french - good wine list. Friendly service. Really enjoyed dinner here!
