Places don't stay around this long if they aren't good. Leonoro's is solid. The menu isn't huge, and they don't offer a lot of creativity, but if you just want a good plate of spaghetti, you always know you're going to get just that. The ambience is homey. Everything is a la carte, except for the house specials, which come with a salad. Tip: the house salad dressing is delicious.

Overpriced for the quality of food. 2 spaghetti and meatball dinners with one basket of cold bread was $26.00 with tax. I was expecting better quality for the prices.

Family owned East End joint worth a stop. Baked dishes and meatballs are personal favorites.

Leonaro's is the place to go in Charleston for true Italian food. Prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly and efficient. When your in the mood for a little taste of Italy try Leonoro's!

If you want a hip place, go somewhere else. I happen to adore their meatballs (size of a baby's fist, fyi) and enjoy the sauce too. And maybe-just maybe-the reason you're getting less stellar service than you want is because you're acting like a jerk. Every time I've been they've treated me like family. They do charge for their garlic bread, not going to lie.

Local joint that's been here since 1915 Started out as a confectionary by 2 italian immigrants. They should have stayed with the confection gig. By the looks of the outside, I felt like I was going to a sit down with Tony soprano. When you enter in it's like going to taco bell. I was expecting "mamma mia" special secret spaghetti sauce and meatball recipes and what I got was major disaapointment!!!! Too expenive for a plate of mediocre pasta and bland meatballs, I ate becuase I was hungry and did not have lunch. I shouldve gone to krogers supermarket and bought bertolli. On top of no star service, this place can close and it would never be missed. And who the hell up charges for a basket of crappy toast??? Avoid this place!!!! Your local homeless shelter serves better pasta.

This is a good place to eat if you like "traditional" Italian sauce w/ meatballs. That is their specialty. I personally do not care for spaghetti, so I order mine over rigatoni. It's better suited for heavier sauces and is great with meatballs. Their salad is simple and nothing to write home about, but their tomato-based house dressing is yummy. I recommend ordering garlic toast. Yes, it's a separate charge but the meal is not complete, without it. *For those who feel the menu is a bit overpriced, I would suggest going before 4pm when salad is included in the lunch special. And a note to out-of-towners: This is not an upscale Italian eatery so don't expect to be blown away...

I have a bit of a soft spot for this place because of the history behind it and how unpretentious it is. The marinara sauce is absolutely delicious but their prices are a little steep considering the portions and quality of the salad/bread. It's an iceberg salad, y'all & the bread is a tad cold. The sauce is definitely the reason to come!

The outside looks really cool, The inside needs work really plan and boring. The menu selection is limited so is the wine but my salad was really good and anthenuic. You want to love this place cause of the history but the inside really takes out of the experience and it can be pricey

Food and service are marginal. I wish it were better 'cause it's in my hood and locally owned. It's been around forever, so some folks must like it. Every time I've visited my spaghetti hasn't been drained. The meatballs have no flavor. Do yourself a favor, Charleston, and drive up north for your Italian food.

Forgettable food. Everything is (over)priced ala carte. Three of us had spaghetti & meatballs, salad, bread and two of us had dessert. The bill was $90! For SPAGHETTI! It must take an incredible amount of work to make "homemade" sauce taste like they just opened a jar of Ragu back in the kitchen! Bad neighborhood, bad decor, mediocre service. Don't bother...

So I was really wanting Fazios but to my dismay they are closed on Mondays. So my husband and I decided to try Leonoro's. We had both never eaten there so we figured why not. Well we soon found out why we had not ever eaten there before. The decor left a lot to be desired. Mama Rosa's has a similar appearance but way better food (and they have an awesome Greek salad). The service was less than enthusiastic and the food was bland and way over priced for the quality. They charge you separately for subpar garlic toast. Needless to say we will not be going back. Fazios definitely has these guys beat in all departments.

I find these other reviews blasphemous! If you are looking for amazing authentic Italian food Leonoro's is the place to go! Fazios can't even compete with Leonoro's home made sauce (it even gives my grandmother's a run for her money...but i won't tell her that!). I grew up in Charleston and have gone to Leonoro's since I can't even remember. It is a real family business and most of the employees there have been there for years so they must be doing something right. I have since left the area, but visit my father often and refuse to go anywhere else other than Leonoro's! Amazing food, incredible sauce and great portion sizes! I'm actually hoping to go there tomorrow!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
