If you like sitting down in a nursing home and eating what they are eating... Then heres the place for you! Decor is horrible it made me want to leave immediately, dirty grungy and OLD! Food was meh, very few options if you dont like southern basics then dont even bother. The waiter was very slow and left us without drinks for a while, food had obviously been kept warm and felt like it was microwaved before coming out to us. Two out of three of us suffered slight gastrointestinal issues later that evening. Its a shame because theres not much to eat out on the north side of Charleston, and this is a let down.

Had breakfast here for the first time- and was very impressed! For a family restaurant it was great- the service, price, and food were great. The pancakes were perfect and the cinnamon roll was enormous! We will be coming back.

I was afraid to eat here because of the poor reviews; however put your mind at ease. This is a family owned restaurant that is doing it right and has been for 35 years. We stopped in because my wife has told me about their "bacon" salad dressing for years. It is called the Appalachian Wilted Salad and is worth the drive. A fresh vinegar based dressing that is sweet and BACON!!! I ordered the spaghetti because it just sounded good.... And it was it! A house made sauce that had a lot of fresh vegetables, sausage, and spices. They specialize in home cooled favorites like chocked and dumplings, baked steak, etc... You won't go home hungry! Ignore the earlier comments and come on in!

They have good salads and a good farm hand special but other than that its pretty crappy food. Breakfast is by far the best meal they serve, but only if the cook Scooter is working. The wait staff is mediocre at best, but its only because the Harding family are the biggest cheapskates I've ever met in my whole life, and they rely entirely to much on the managers who are no better then the underpaid employees. As if it couldn't get any worse when you get done eating the food that already leaves a bad taste in your mouth you have to get rang out by a women named Jessica, who will leave an even worse taste in your mouth just because she's probably the rudest person in there, but shes management and because the Hardings are to cheap to hire some more employees, or just to cheap to take care if the ones they got, we the customer have to put up with poor service, poor food, and poor attitudes.

Great place for breakfast. My family and I eat here every time we visit Charleston. I highly recommend the farmhand skillet with eggs over easy and hot sauce. Coffee is hot and flowing and having a little gift shop makes for a nice wait while waiting on a seat. If you have kids, ask for Mickey mouse pancakes, the cook will do them right!

I will never go there again. I cannot comment on the food bc I never received it. After being seated I waited for 30 min and never received a drink yet my waitress had time to chat with other tables and take empty plates from them and bring them things but I could not even get a drink..wtf?

Writing as I am sitting here at the counter at Hardings. I was referred here by several hotel staff when I asked what is the best home cooking restaurant in Charleston. I ask for the kind of cooking you would get if you went to grandma's house. The all said Harding's. So here i find myself. I love a good country fried steak so I am here in the country so that's what I an getting. I just got it and it is terrible. It is rubbery and hard fried disks. Like a beaded frozen burger. Topped with bland white gravy, no specks of pepper or taste of salt. I asked the server if they make their own country fried steak and she said, "nope we buy it frozen and drop it in the fryer a put white gravy on top." I stay away from chains but scew it... Im going to Bob Evans tomorrow. Harding was huge let down. So one quick addition. I just overheard the wait staff laughing when another young server said he just had a customer ask if they coffee is fresh and he said "probably not" then the crew all chuckled. I asked is this a chain or family owned and they said locally owned by family that also owns a couple hotels. No wonder I got the recommendation from the hotel to eat here. Now the cook and waitress are joking about Jews through the kitchen window. Apparently when he yelled out he was" hot as Hebrew slave " it warranted some racist slur by the waitress. Now, not only do I think the food sucks but, I am offended too.

Harding's Family Restaurant is a country diner located directly off of I-79. As soon as you walk into the front door you feel like you walked into the 1980's. We were greeted by a very friendly and sweet server; Leslie Ann. The restaurant houses 12 tables with Chef's kitchen bar (similar to the kitchen bar at Denny's). We started with deep fried mushrooms served with cocktail sauce but Leslie Ann immediately told us she prefers the ranch dressing (she was right). She also recommended we try the wilted lettuce salad. This is one of the best salads I have ever had; the salad was served with delicious Appalachian hot bacon sweet vinegar dressing with FRESH fried bacon, cucumbers, insanely huge green onions, tomatoes and chopped up romaine lettuce. I had the smothered chicken over a rice pilaf with canned mushrooms, mashed potatoes and homemade biscuits. As a BBQ sauce junkie and this being my first time to West Virginia I asked for a side of BBQ sauce (they brought out Sweet Baby Ray's Sauce of which I have in my refrigerator at home). My boyfriend had the patty melt on rye served with big hand cut french fries. If you are looking to leave with a full belly, and want great service; Harding's is your place.

Hardings has gone down hill. I ordered the roast beef over stuffing. Way over-priced. The portion was a joke. I do not recommend the roast beef.

Good comfort food. Friendly waitstaff. Can be crowded at times. Only one dish on the menu I didn't like. Hard to go wrong here. The downside? Absolutely VILE restrooms. I've seen cleaner and better maintained restrooms in truck stops or gas stations!

Harding's is our "go-to" restaurant when we can't decide what to eat. It's a nice family, sit down place with good home cooked food. The wait staff is nice and the atmosphere is calm and inviting. I would recommend this place to anyone who would like to try good West Virgina "home cooked" food. And the price is very reasonable.

Too late for fried chicken so had country fried steak, not bad but does not stack up to the chicken, salad with good blue cheese and sweet tea. Customary great service. I'm set for the night.
