We went on a Friday night, this place is popular, we waited for nearly an hour! Thank goodness we were with good friends or I would have left. Service once we were seated was excellent, our waitress was very nice, efficient and friendly. Our food was great, terrific fish, cod, walleye, breaded mushrooms, coleslaw French fries. A great Wisconsin Friday night fish fry!!!

Not impressed. We came here for a birthday dinner and it was a real let-down. Steaks had no flavor and were very chewy. There were some serious inconsistencies ... my mom and I ordered the same meal: steak with fried shrimp. She had 4 shrimp on her plate while I only had 3? Weird. My stepdad seemed happy with his fish though. Staff was nice but we won't come here again.

Definitely have experienced better. I understand this is homey food but the food is very unoriginal and uninspired. Overpaid for a salad for sure...

On Wednesday nights they have fish fry AND Mexican specials. Not too crowded and the food, service and atmosphere are wonderful.

We stopped in tonight for burgers and fries. Every time we've gone for lunch or dinner the food has been great. Tonight the burgers were good sized, the fries were crunchy and the drinks hit the spot. I recommend the 5 O'clock club for your friends and a nice dinner out. We dined by the fireplace so the ambiance was very warm and relaxing.

Excellent drinks (generously sized and not watered down), great food and excellent service. - I called ahead, was told if I came a little early (before 6:30 on a Wednesday), that I could get a table outside on the deck with a porch (even though they didn't take reservations). When we arrived, the place settings were set up for us. - Great and friendly service - family run!

If a good fish fry is what you're after, keep looking. My wife and I went here in search of a new place for a Friday fry. The restaurant is located with a scenic view of Pewaukee Lake and must thrive off of people who live around the area. The bar was festive and the bartenders were attentive and mixed a good drink. We had a long wait time for dinner (half hour to 45 minutes) so we ordered the breaded mushrooms as an appetizer and they were served with....cocktail sauce. We thought it was a strange condiment to serve with the mushrooms (we are accustomed to ranch) but we nonetheless ate them and came away unimpressed. For dinner we both ordered the baked cod. Upon arriving at our table, we were met with a bowl of cole slaw (in vinegar as opposed to creamy cole slaw) and some rye bread. The cod meal only came with an option of french fries as opposed to having a choice of a baked potato or potato pancakes and for the price, the food was definitely not worth it. The fish was dry and crispy instead of a desired moist and light. The fries even seemed too crispy like they had just been sitting under a hot lamp since before we arrived. I'm pretty easy to please as far as food goes, but the lack of quality/freshness was very evident. As for the service, our waitress never once bothered to come over and ask how we were doing or if she could get us anything else. I did manage to flag her down in the middle of our meal to request more tartar sauce to put on my dried out fish. One other review mentioned that they felt like cattle being herded in and out of this place and we felt the same way. I don't know if it was a bad night but we will definitely not be coming here again. If you're looking for a place to grab a drink and sit outside with a view of a lake, this could be your place. However, the dining experience and trek out to the 5 O'Clock Club was definitely not worth it.

First, what is there NOT to like about Wisconsin? I don't miss Illinois, but I miss Wisconsin from when I lived in Illinois. On business this week in Milwaukee and met my clients here (they are local and suggested this location). A long term restaurant from 1929, family owned. The fish fry was suggested, Cod and Perch. This is by far the best I have had! Short and sweet. Portions? Well you will not need anything for dinner after lunch! Staff? Excellent. Refer? You Betcha'! Word of advice, get here early.

This place is... Brace yourself... The best restaurant in Lake Country. I'm not kidding. For its price range, I would rather eat here than anywhere else in the world. Everybody seems to be drawn to the fish fry, but if you ask me, Friday is the worst night to eat at the old Five-Oh. Here's why. On Fridays, it's freakin packed. For me it's like living in Cancun and loving it most of the year, and Fridays at 5'O are like Spring Break in Cancun. It sucks. It's almost touristy. It's when the people who don't know 5'O go to 5'O. Forget the fish fry. It's good, but anyone can fry fish. And everyone does. Go on a Wednesday, ask to be seated in Jodi's section, and order any of the specials. Look around and embrace the supper club vibe, the fossilizing regulars, the strong and cheap drinks! Check out the drink specials. Order homemade ice cream. Have a cheese plate. All of these things and more will make your experience great. Period. If all else fails, order a burger. I'm serious, it's flipping awesome, and I'm a burger snob. Hell, I'm an everything snob. Don't like crinkle cut fries? Get fruit and cottage cheese on the side. Go right now. GO!!! Why haven't you left yet? Stop reading and GO!!!

I called in a lunch order during the week because I didn't have time to sit there and eat on my lunch break. My order consisted of their crispy duck wings and "Prospect Avenue", which is a grilled chicken and bacon sandwich with three kinds of cheese on Italian bread. The duck wings were very disappointing. $7.25 gets you five wings that had more fat than meat and very little of either in the first place. If you like sauce with your wings, they thankfully give you two different kinds on the side for dipping the wings in to them edible. These were the main reason why I wanted to try 5 O'Clock Clue and honestly, I would have rather gotten 18 chicken wings at Buffalo Wild Wings during their Thursday special for the price of five duck wings. The most bland crinkle cut fries in the world were the default option for my sandwich's side and if I had known that I would have asked to substitute anything else (except more duck wings). Even tons of salt and pepper packets couldn't save these things. I'm not a big ketchup person but I would have gladly used it had I had some. The "Prospect Avenue" sandwich looked amazing when I opened the box. Lots of melty cheese, crispy bacon, and thick pieces of Italian bread. I picked up the sandwich and noticed that the bottom was super greasy from all the butter they used to grill the bread. Based on how the sandwich looked, my first bite was again a letdown. The chicken itself had no flavor and was tough to chew. At least the bacon, cheese, and bread were tasty. In summary, the wings were disappointing, the fries were nasty, and the chicken was bland. The redeeming points were that the bacon was crispy, the three cheeses were melty instead of still in slice form, and they were very fast in completing my order while I drove to pick it up. Though there were other things on the menu that I wanted to try, I probably won't be eating here again.

Descriptive phrase: home-grown food in a townie place. Wisconsinites love fish fry's, even more so during Lent. Growing up in Waukesha, I'd heard of the 5 O'Clock Club out in Pewaukee before. I finally made it out for their famous fish fry this past Friday. 5OCC is located on Pewaukee Lake. It's hidden off the main drag down a long, old driveway. I got there around 4:30 PM and the parking lot was already completely full. The place itself is an early 1900s house and there are plenty of pictures inside remembering this time. Goodness, they can cram the people inside. There were easily over 100 people in the house, with probably 60 of them just waiting to sit. It's a big house, and there are 3 main sitting areas with a bar and bar-seat area in the middle. I was waiting for my group to arrive, so I got myself a drink. It took a while to get the bartender's attention. There were 4 of them hustling from patron to patron, it was just that busy. I was reminded I was back in real Wisconsin when I asked for a Manhattan (~$5) and she said "You want that with brandy?" I opted for bourbon. They're not lying when they say the drinks are strong. Hooo-ie! I honestly don't know if I've ever had a Manhattan like that. You'll get your money's worth, that's for sure. They didn't have a lot of beer on draft, but they did have their own amber-style beer so that gets extra points from me. There really isn't much space to sit and wait, so I just stood by the bar. My group got there about 30 minutes later (sheesh!), but it only took another 5 minutes to get seated. However, a relative who got there 10 minutes before I was seated still hadn't been called by the time we were leaving. Beware if you arrive after 5PM, you'll be waiting past 6. (And no, there are no reservations on Fridays) The food: 1) Don't eat the bread that's already on the table, it's been there a while and is straight out of the grocery bag. 2) I'm not a coleslaw guy, but their's was okay (vinegar-based). 3) Get the Cod (~$13). Mound of crinkle-cut fries were great, and the 4-5 large pieces of fish were perfectly crispy. There was nearly no wait on the food, and overall I was happy with my meal. It's definietely one of the better fish fry's in the area, and the atmosphere adds to the experience, but the waiting-game can get old enough to make me not want to come back for a while. Recommended fish fry if you've never been or live nearby.

Great Chicken and Fish Fry and well worth the wait for a table. Desserts are house-made and very good.

The 5 O'Clock Club is one of our favorite places to go for a fish fry. If you go on a Friday or Saturday, yes, you're going to wait a while for a table. But while you wait, they have nice outside tables or a friendly bartending staff if you choose to stay inside. The food is good and plentyful. The fish fry is not greasy as other's often are. The decor is dated and old but it's a traditional Wisconsin supper club style place. Always fun!

Our server Lori was great! She was so nice and knowledgable. From the moment we sat down, she was so attentive, went over all the specials and even tried to convince us to order dessert. If your in the mood for fish fry, or just a great meal, this is the best around. Thank you Lori for a fabulous night!

We've lived in Milwaukee for some time but do not know much about the Pewaukee area. But it was time for lunch and we decided to stop in one raining afternoon. Outstanding! We were early but the service was fantastic. Our meals were all outstanding. I had the bison burger and appreciated the variety on the menu. Easy place to recommend, and they are good with kids.

This has become one of the places I like to go and have a good home cooked meal. For me, its the Classy Cluck that I find delightful. If you haven't tried this place, it is a must. As for libations, they make one heck of a Moscow Mule.

This is one of the first restaurants we headed to when moving to Pewaukee. What a place! The fish fry is excellent! You get very large portions of fish and fries for an outstanding price! The bar and waiting area can get very crowded, but the wait is usually pretty reasonable. This place is great! It's always the first place we take our visiting guests!

I've been going to fish frys at the 5 O'Clock Club with my family for most of my life. It's a Pewaukee staple! The restaurant has a distinct supper club vibe in the decor and ambiance. Up until a couple days ago I'd only ever had the fish fry, which of course is good. It's not the best in Waukesha county, but it's definitely quite good. What lead me to write this review after so many past visits was what I got for dinner last Wednesday. I didn't feel like fish fry, and I saw on the specials menu a bison burger with mushroom, greens, gruyere cheese, and garlic aoli. How good does that sound, right?? So I ordered it with the rosemary french fries, and WOW! This was one of the best burgers I've ever had! The waitress told me they grind the (locally sourced) bison right there in house, and I could tell it was that fresh! I definitely recommend trying it if you're looking to switch things up from the usual fish fry!

I was excited to come here after all the reviews and good things I'd heard from people... But I was a bit dissapointed. The food was pretty good; but limited menu. We went on a Wednesday night and unfortunately they only had mexican and a few sandwiches available: if I wanted mexican I would have gone to a mexican restaurant. I had the filet sandwich which was actually pretty good, cooked exactly medium rare and pretty juicy. The others in my group got mexican and it tasted alright. My friend thought there was a mix up with her food and the server ended up bringing it back to the kitchen, only to bring it back to the table and inform my friend that she was incorrect. I'm sorry, but even if the customer was incorrect, isnt' the customer always right? (I'm a server and I would never bring food back to the table that I brought back to the kitchen to show the manager) The server did not know how to handle the situation and seemed flakey about the menu. Cocktails were rocking: cheap and lots of liqour. The patio was beautiful to sit on and the inside seemed interesting. Another downfall: we were probably the youngest there (late 20's) and the average age there was about 55. I would defintely go again, but just on a different day when they had more options for dinner.

The 5-O is not only a great neighborhood restaurant, it's a charming and consistent Wisconsin insider hot spot of the great supper club tradition. Menu selections change throughout the week and daily specials are indeed quite special. Drinks are definitely another great reason to make it a frequent destination. No goofy hokus pokus with glass sizes or densities. You can have a drink--or three--without getting fleeced. Highly recommended for folks that eat out ...alot.

What the Wisconsin Friday Fish Fry is all about. Perfect casual atmosphere, good drinks, and great food. Took my brother and his wife here for the first time, he can not stop raving about it. I always finish with the Pabst special.

Went to the 5 O'Clock Club last night and had a great meal and service. I had the Classic Cluck which is 1/2 of a chicken, fried (rumored to be fried in lard) and cooked complete instead of pieces which was great. My brother had the special which was a 28/30 oz pork shank. Oblivously a huge portion but oh so tasty, The meat was juicy and flavorful yet the skin was crispy. We had some nice Balvanie scotch at the bar before dinner. Our servers at the bar and then at the table were delightful and cheerful. Wonderful evening.

I have been coming to this restaurant for years. The food is good, not great, the dinner menu varies by the days of the week and is limited but good. Quaint setting in old home with a nice outside deck and a lot of mature trees. Restaurant and bathroom and grounds are clean. My experience last night was not good but it was due to the waitress we had. She did not know the specials or the drinks, didn't attend to her customers needs with water, hot coffee, desserts, followup, etc.. or remember even who ordered what, was either not well trained or the job was too overwelming for her. So unfortunately we were entertaining guests and due to the poor service it was a bad experience.

Great fishfry, we have been going for years. As with most restaurants in lake county service is sluggish for dinner but it offers time for a few friendly beers at the bar. If you want fast service try lunch first. Food here is always great, tonight some fresh soft-shell crabs. A last min decision as I was assured they where flown in today. They where great! You can't go wrong with a stop at 5'o clock club

Had the bacon and blue burger special, it was excellent. Companions had other dishes such as the fish fry and were happy with thier choices. My martini was fantastic. Beer prices reasonable. Cheese plate sampler was very tasty. Service was good and the staff very friendly.

The two of us went to try their fish fry. Had to wait 30 minutes to be seated even though there were empty tables everywhere. A group of 4 came in after us and were seated immediately, though. This restaurant obviously gets all it's food in boxes, cans, or bags from a restaurant supply. Nothing on the plate was fresh or made by them. Consequently, our dinner was a big disappointment given their local reputation. The bar seemed nice and friendly, however, so I might come back for a drink.

Went there for a fish fry and thought the food was awesome. Not all you can eat, but the portion size was amazing! Good vinegar based coleslaw. Bread was good too. Didn't like the fact that when i sat down my tartar sauce, coleslaw and bread was already at the table (before we even ordered). Then after we ordered we never got a plate to eat some bread. Had to stare at the food until our fish came to be able to put the bread on a plate. Highly recommend it though despite this quirk.

We had the fish fry here and the decor is quite out dated, there is a bar which is always busy, but cramped. The soup, bread and fish fry really is delicious. Go back when the non-smoking rule is in effect next year (assuming you are a non-smoker).

  • David P.

Over-crowded, over-hyped, and over-cooked. First, you will have to wait forever on a Friday to be seated. Second, you will be treated like cattle as you are moved, fed and delivered your bill. I wish I could say the fish was decent enough for another try...sorry.

I was visiting Milwaukee/Waukesha this week and was hoping to try out the traditional Wisconsin favorite--Friday Fish Fry. My hosts brought me here and it was just right. I had the Lake Perch (you choose from several varieties of fresh fish), which was lightly breaded and tasty. I washed it down with a tasty 22 oz. Franziskaner. A family-friendly atmosphere that also has a great bar and comfortable casual outdoor seating. Recommended!
