I've never had anything bad here, not even close. The soup menu is rotating with a few house soups served everyday. Sandwiches are also served daily--you must have the Cuban, but the Club is also tasty. My soup suggestions include: Albondigas & Seafood Chowder. Their menu, including daily soups, is posted on their site ( thesoupotzies.wordpress.… ) & their Facebook page. You must have CASH. No cards accepted. This is a family owned restaurant, so check their hours online (i.e. close @ 2:30pm on Fri/Sat and closed Sun, closed a few days around a holiday).

I've been here twice so far, and see myself going back many times. The soup is fantastic and seems to be quite original. The bread is awesome, and the prices are amazing. However, it's cash/check only. No credit or debit. If they start accepting at least debit, I'll give them five stars. Until then, the inconvenience of having to obtain cash to dine here is a definite detractor.

This place is great. Aside from the amazing soups they dish up, they have the friendliest staff you'll find anywhere in the city. Those Otzie's know how to make you feel at home. (if your home was a top-notch soup diner) They don't have the widest verity, 5 soups served daily, but unless you have remarkable allergies, you're going to find something you'll like.

GREAT soup just like your mom makes! (Or at least SOME moms make.) New recipes made daily, fresh bread baked daily, and cheap.

My favorite place for lunch in Milwaukee! Very fast, very cheap, very delicious, and vegetarian friendly. And they are always serving something new. Even though the restaurant itself isn't that old, it has the charm of a place that's been around for 50 years. There is an old fashioned diner counter and tables for those who prefer a more private atmosphere. Soup Otzie's serves the same three soups on weekdays. Then, there are two new soups every weekday, which you can view ahead of time on their menu online, which is consistently and regularly updated. One of those soups is always vegetarian. The soup comes with bread--I would absolutely recommend the sourdough. It has a true sourdough flavor and an excellent crust. Make sure to not miss Spicy Peanut or Roasted Carrot Pecan. Yum! Soup Otzies' also serves sandwiches. I have had them a few times, and they are always fresh and delicious, but the soup is why I keep coming back. You can get soup to go at very reasonable prices, perfect to bring home for dinner. They do sometimes run out of soup, but if you call ahead, they'll hold a pint or two for you if you let them know when you're going to be there. They are cash only, but there is a bank with an ATM across the street.

Great soup especially on a cold day, make sure you bring cash. Eat in or take out, odd hours but definitely worth working into your schedule for lunch or an early dinner!!

I hesitated to post a review because I don't want my favorite soups running out next time I come! Best mom and pop soup place in the US and I've been all over. Six bucks gets you a huge bowl of soup and a mini loaf of fresh bread. Great variety, standard staples and innovative creations. Adequate interior but off the charts good food. A little out of the way but always worth your trip!

Had the Chicken Campagnola sandwich (Herbed breast meat, provolone cheese, roasted red peppers, field greens, pesto mayo and balsamic vinaigrette). It was excellent! Perfectly toasted and crisp with a nice amount of chicken and peppers for the price. Also had the chicken with dumpling soup which was okay but very salty. I've also had the Classic Cuban which was very good. The service is not necessary quick nor friendly. It's like I'm bothering them every time I walk in the place.

I sure wish this place was closer to me. It's perfect for a quick lunch which is healthy and not a 'fast food'. It is the great lunch in cold weather. I love the Cream of Potato soup but always try one of their specials since they give you a free sample. It's fun to taste an item I may not normally consider ordering . They serve a cup or a bowl. If the soup is all you plan to eat, you need the bowl. If you plan to try their sandwiches, the cup would be a good match. Staff is very friendly even tho they get pretty busy at times. My friend tried the Chicken Dumpling and said she'd be back for more. You get a large piece of fresh bread with your soup and two pats of butter. (I could use more but don't ask 'cuz I know I shouldn't eat much more than 2.) I think they are open until 6 so if you want to pick up soup to go along with your supper, you need to decide early. They seem to do a good take-out business. Parking may be difficult since it is street parking but the library is nearby and currently doesn't monitor who parks in their lot.

Yummy soups and panini sandwiches! They offer samples of the soups which is very helpful when you are indecisive like me. My boyfriend ended up getting the dill pickle soup which was tasty. (Great for dipping your sandwich in) I like that they have something different to offer. I got the chicken enchilada yum! Everything was great! Friendly service. Will be back for sure!

Met a friend for lunch on my first visit to the Soup Otzies. There were 6-7 different soups on the white board to let you know what was available, because not everything on the printed menu is available that day. They change things up. The server asked me if I wanted to sample anything. I was instantly a fan just from that offer. I love Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice soup, so I sampled that and the Texas Chili. I was really in a soup mood, but the Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice didn't win me over. It was good, but not better than the Texas Chili I sampled, so I ordered a bowl of that. It came with a large hoagie sized moni-loaf of french bread, which was crisp on the outside and soft inside, just as it should be. The chili was hearty and flavorful. I had onions and cheese added, too. My friend ended up getting the Chicken and Wild Rice and she enjoyed it with sour dough bread. All of the bread and the soup is made fresh in-house. I've driven past this place dozens of times, and I'm really glad I got to try it, finally! This is a great place to get soup or a sandwich and the prices are very right on. A cup of soup was $3.75 and a bowl was $4.95. I was stuffed after a bowl of chili with the french bread. Service was friendly and attentive. I would definitely go back!

This place is great. I come here to stock up on frozen soups to take home during the cold months (and every other time of the year, really. I mean, how can you not?) Every soup I have tried has been delicious and you can tell that they are made with lots of love. The beer cheese soup is to die for and the butternut squash is a close second favorite of mine. Everyone is very friendly and the diner set-up feels very nostalgic, warm, and homey. Joan is quirky, hilarious, and very kind. All the soups are her own recipes. Go there! P.S. Cash only!

This place is awesome. The soup is as good here (if not better) as any other place in Milwaukee (think Soup House or Soup Brothers). Feels like a converted George Webb's. Small place but cozy. Get there early for good seating and to make sure they don't sell out of the soup you want. A bowl of soup with the bread they serve should be enough to satisfy anyone's hunger. Friendly service to boot. Cash only! Get here!

Absolutely the best lunch place I have found. I make a point to visit every time I am in town. Unbelievable homemade soups and great sandwiches. Having the Pot Roast soup now: big chunks of carrot, potato and celery - and tons of tender REAL pot roast.

Great place to pick up a quick lunch. I've never actually been there, but my coworkers pick up our lunch every so often. Their soups are always good and my favorite sandwich is the portobello. If they delivered, I'd get lunch from them much more often!

This ain't your Campbell's Soup!! Stumbled into here last weekend not knowing what to expect. A restaurant based mostly on soup? Strangely short business hours? and with a name that harkens back to a beloved Seinfeld episode?.... I was immediately a heavy skeptic and I honestly wasn't expecting much from this place.... I was wrong. This place has some amazing soup.... I don't think I can ever eat soup out of a tin can ever again. Upon sitting down, my eyes was drawn away from the menu and up to the Soup board listing all the "specials". The broccoli and crab soup sounded delish, so I ordered up a cup. Oh boy, this soup.... THIS SOUP. Amazing. The bread that comes with every soup is great for dunking. I couldn't get enough. Reasonable prices and a list of great looking sandwiches to pair with the soups will definitely bring me back in the near future. What's that you say? You don't like soup? Well then..... NO SOUP FOR YOU!

Best soup and sandwich lunch spot!!! Our server was easily the most likeable waitstaff person i've ever encountered in my life. it was an absolute pleasure to go there, if i lived in millwakee i would eat there at least 1-2 times a week.

The place is Ok. Soup was good but limited variety. The bread is fresh and tasty

We've gone here a few times since my last review. All in all I'm going to stick with 3 stars. Evening takeout is generally fast--the soups in a big soup kettle and gets ladled into a container and out the door you go. They run out of our favorite bread by dinner time more often than not. Very annoying. The soups are usually hearty but bland. I wish they'd use more spicing even flavors rather than hot in their soups. Cash only sucks if you forget. It's not like Leon's where it's just pocket change... Their sodas are some weird brand and expensive. Don't expect to get a coke or pepsi here. Their more hip sodas like Izze are in small bottles not the bigger ones everyone else has.

I just had the Cuban Black Bean soup and it was the best I've ever had. Great soup and a great price. Sourdough bread also fresh and delicious.

Went to "Soup Otzies" today in Town of Lake (Howell, one block below Howard). Has been grand for years ... today the chicken dumpling was saltier than the sea ... I mean it hurt to take a spoonful. They *bleeping* changed me for the bowl after I sent it back! "No one else complained", they said. This chef, me, in all good conscience, can no longer recommend Soup Otzies. While their quality could be among the OK, in the past, their blatant disregard for those buying the soup is not OK. AVOID THIS PLACE!

And what's the deal with all these Seinfeld quotes in the reviews for this place? Bring your cash! No credit, no debit! No cash, no soup for you! You should always carry cash on this side of town because a lot of great south side restaurants still only accept cash. I felt like a nice warm bowl after leaving 85 degree weather in Orlando for a cool, brisk 70 degree late-October day in Milwaukee....wait a minute.... I order up a Classic Cuban and a bowl of seafood chowder for carry out. I get the artichoke and tomato sandwich along with some potato soup for the wife, and given the fact that her or the two-year-old wasn't very hungry, I was able to sample everything. There's a very small crew of workers here, and this place was hopping on Monday at noon. The whole place was packed and the three workers here were flying all around, and yet they were able to get my food ready for takeout in a mere 15 minutes. Good job all around and way to hustle. This place not only named this place after the cult favorite Seinfeld character, but they also have three framed, signed items from the actor himself. I'm pretty sure one of these items is a signed restraining order. Onto the food. The Cuban was a little dry but still very good. The seafood chowder was amazing, probably the best chowder I've had. Chunks of seafood, kernels of corn and bits of rice grace this perfect chowder. The artichoke and tomato was really good with it's gooey mozzarella. The potato soup, however, could have used a tad more potato chunks and a tad less salt. This place has great soup and good sandwiches. I will return on the cold winter days to come.

I eat here quite often so I feel bad about giving it only three stars. The good: the Cuban sandwich is EXCELLENT. It's probably the best Cuban sandwich in town. I like a little bit of spice so I'll bring it back to my office and add a little bit of sriacha mayo to it. The bad: I like to try different soups on their monthly lunch menu. The problem is if you order any soup with vegetables the veggies are cut in GIGANTIC pieces. I ordered chicken noodle soup a few days ago and I was calling it carrots in boiled water. Still a very nice place. It is cash only and feels like grandmas house. The Cuban is great I just wish they'd cut those vegetables a bit smaller so I can actually enjoy the soup!

The restruant is very small be warned there are only about 5 tables and the bar. It is decorated in very old decor and looks like it has not been painted in quite sometime. Be sure to look at the specials board as they usually have a large assortment of items not listed on the menu. My waitress was very nice and attentive, not very talkative. My food came out at a good place I orderd the thai pumpkin crab soup and a cubano sandwich. The soup was fantastic! It has a spicy, smooth, and sweet taste. As for the cubano it was just just cold cuts on panini bread, it was not that great. From my observations they serve homemade bread with their homemade soup. I also noticed lots of people either calling ahead or just dropping in for soup to go. I think I will reserve this place for the future when I am in the mood for a big bowl of soup.

Another day, another adventure. I picked up my girlfriend and we wanted to eat somewhere more local and closer to home so she recommended Soup Otzies on Howell. My first initial impression of the setup of the place was that it had a George Webbs kinda feel to it. The waitress was very nice helping my girlfriend and I. She offered us samples for soup which is always a plus in my book. Looking at the menu, I asked which was one of the more popular ones and the waitress mentioned the Classic Cuban. The Cuban, which consisted of spiced pork loin, smoked ham, Swiss cheese and other things put into a rustique ciabatta bread; had a okay taste to it. The grained mustard gave it a good texture, but I felt the two slices of pickles drowned out the taste of two meats I was looking forward to eat. On the other hand, my girlfriend's choice, the Portobello Mushroom sandwich made me feel like I was in a Boyz II Men music video where they would use the words, "Smooth, soft and silky" over and over again. It had a soft flakey taste that got better and better the more you bit into it. And on top of that, her soup of choice, the Creamy corn chipotle was a perfect compliment to her sandwich. Overall pretty good food with unique homemade soups. Give it a try !

Local-scratch soup kitchen. Yum! Service is sometimes less that perfect, but it's a small soup kitchen. As long as they keep putting the love into the soup, I'll keep coming back!

Soup for you! Nice little place. Coke, no pepsi...actually no coke either, they have black bear soda products. Also cash or check only. But that's ok because it won't break the bank to eat there with very reasonable prices. They feature certain soups every day and feature soups that change daily. They also make sandwiches, didn't see that before going and was almost why I didn't go. I'll start with I thought the service was a little slow. I mean it's soup and plain sandwiches. But compared to normal chain places it was quick. There's one lady taking orders and one making sandwiches so it's also not like there's a lot of help. I didn't mind, but sometimes people can be jerk and think they should be served or taken care of right away and I'm just saying be prepared to wait your turn. The workers seem nice and you can tell they have regulars, which to me means quality. If a place has regulars that they can walk in and they know what to start making then the place is doing something right. So the food. Good. It's hard to get excited over soup, but it's quality homemade goodness. I had the chicken dumpling...mmm. If you don't like carrots I'd suggest some thing else. But the dumplings were so good. Definitely will be back, maybe become a regular. Oh seats have plenty of room for fat guys too. Enjoy.

Great soups. I really like the fact that they let you sample the soups before you order. When I walked in I thought I would order the chicken noodle but after sampling the wonderful 15 bean and ham I ordered it. It was fabulous.

plantain-corn soup. yum. i came in here for lunch on friday and it reminded me of the old version of my favorite hotdog place in ann arbor, mi (red hot lovers) - but a bit cleaner and i'm pretty confident the staff was sober. not much seating, but good prices for good soup and a large piece of bread. i will definitely be back!

Exactly what we expected. The soup was wholesome and tasty, serviced with a big slice of your choice of bread. Service was friendly and prompt. I wouldn't say The Soup Otzie's is a "top pick" place when you're looking for an awesome meal. Instead, I would say that if you're craving soup, this is a great place to go!
