I went to Farr's the other night because I wanted old fashioned scooped-into-a-cone ice cream. I was a little disappointed when I walked in and saw a ton of spigots on the wall. I guess it is the "in" thing now. *sigh* After perusing the dozen or so flavors of custard, ice cream, and fro yo, I settled on butter pecan ice cream. I worked my way down to the section of flavor-enhancers, past the whining child that should have been in bed and not eating ice cream, surveying my options. They had all sorts of goodies, from fruit to Fruity Pebbles. I settled on Butterfinger crumbles. I couldn't think of what else would go well with butter pecan. The sales girl who weighed my treat was really friendly and about $3 later, I was out the door. I'm not going to lie, I was pretty underwhelmed by the flavor. It wasn't butter-pecany enough and it had a weird texture and after taste. I'll probably go back, I feel like I should give them another shot. I hope I pick a better flavor next time...

This is my husband and I's go to place if we're craving frozen yogurt. Friendly staff. Lots of options.

I heard Farr's Fresh had opened up in the last few months and finally found myself in the neighborhood, with a sweet tooth. Which really means I found myself in the neighborhood, because I'm pretty much down for dessert any time. I didn't know much about it except that it was ice cream and it was open. Good enough for me! I was put off at first to find it was a pay-by-the-ounce place. I once likened the business model to making out with a girl with a raunchy, hidden neck tattoo (it's all fun and games until the end when you see the tattoo/price) but I figured I'd give them a shot. They were out of the 12 oz cup, so we decided to share a 16 ouncer. There's a wall of spigots that give you access to cold treats in three categories: frozen custard, ice cream, and frozen yogurt. As a "variety is the spice of life" kind of guy, I felt it my duty to try a little of each. First, the custard. We went with burnt almond fudge. Great texture and that chocolatey-rummy taste. I've always known of Farr as an ice cream place, so pulling off custard means we were off to a good start. In the ice cream department we doubled up and squirted a bit of sugar cookie and a dollup of brownie batter. At least I'm *pretty* sure these two were in the ice cream section and not the custard section. Definitely not the froyo. While there's no doubt that sugar cookie tastes like a sugar cookie, I've spent too much time around scented candles and could only do a few spoonfuls of it before feeling like I was raiding a candle store. It's not you, Farr's. It's me. If you like sugar cookies, grab some of this and enjoy. Or add some cinnamon and go all snickerdoodle with it. The brownie batter was the clear winner of the night. Sort of a nice, soft, subdued creamy chocolate. It was a very fresh take on chocolate and something I'd look forward to again. When it came for the froyo we split the selection between the neon green sour apple and the vivaciously orange sour mango apricot(?) peach(?). Let's say mango-stonefruit, shall we? I guess it's tough to eat ice cream and custard and then move on to frozen yogurt, because for me the texture can't compare and the flavor doesn't seem quite right. They were definitely creative and very flavorful, though. And it's frozen yogurt, so you're gonna like it! We went light on the toppings, but they offer a decent selection of the standards, some fresh fruits, a whole host of sauces, and whipped cream is available upon request. Finally, the neck tattoo... er... time to weigh and pay. We slapped it down and came in just over 9 ounces, bringing our total to $3.80 or so. Right on par with other shops in town. The owner was super nice, there's plenty of parking (park and enter on the south side of the building) and decent seating in the place. It's quite loud inside, so don't come expecting an intimate conversation place with your date. Not a bad option in the ever-growing self-serve stack-it-up joints. They also get a big bonus for having lots of flavors and three different forms of flavor delivery.

Friendly service and good selection of ice cream. Fair prices and clean store. The only thing it missing is more coffee flavors and Sunday hours.

Initial Thought: Oh. Self serve sweets. All of those filthy little children running around touching everything. Gag. Gross. No. Please. Once I remembered that I was a filthy little kid with filthy little siblings and grew up to have a filthy little kid myself and we all came out of it (mostly) unscathed, I was okay. Sometimes we just have to have talks with ourselves. You eat it with a spoon anyway, and there's hand sanitizer in your bag. Maybe two of them. And there's very little chance that the counter is low enough for a child to actually make full on hand-to-merchandise contact with the toppings. Or so I am choosing to believe. Some of the flavors are really good (lemon custard, cake batter ice cream) and some not so good (whatever I got last time that was neither lemon custard nor cake batter ice cream). No complaints on the creaminess factor, it should be creamy-yet-uncreamy enough for pretty much everybody. The assortment of toppings provides a vast array of options. I wish the waffle cone bowl things were a little bit less sweet, but that's just me. I'm mostly in it for the cone, so the by-the-ounce thing is pretty great for me because I don't have to pay for ice cream I'm going to remove from the cone and throw out after just a few bites. (Many among you have seen this happen.) It's also great because you can adjust your topping ratio to your liking (like the genius little girl with the bowl that appeared to be JUST cherries on top) or if you want to think you're being healthy by pretty much going nuts on the .... nuts... and fresh fruit.

OK, I confess, I have a prejudice against pay by the ounce places. But, instead of gripe about the frustration of price vs quantity when you're handed a giant bowl and a million options, I will tell you about the REST of the experience. Farr's has stepped it up in the options category. They offer quite a few flavors of custard, soft serve ice cream AND frozen yogurt. We tried a little blip blop of most of them. The citrus-y fruity ones weren't my favorite. Chocolates and custards seem ed to be the way to my heart. The interior had a neat, almost space age feel. Which was fun to look at, but the many metal and concrete surfaces caused a lot of sound vibrations. Even with only a few people, it was quite noisy. Apparently they do have sample cups, which I did witness being used judiciously. I'm pretty sure they only want you to fill it up once. But hey! Gotta make sure you like it first, right? If you're looking to experience some great flavors, you should give it a try.

Farrs is a great icecream hang out. The employee told me it is the first place to put premium icecream into a soft serve machine. I loved it. They have around 16 flavors that change from time to time. The chocolate custard is my favorite. The price is a little higher than your normal gas station type soft serve but the flavor is much better and worth the price. You pay by the ounce so if you control the urge to fill a monster cup then you wont be shocked by the price.

Custard + froyo toppings = happiness The creamy custard is awesome, especially when mixed with your favorite toppings. I'm blown away that this place doesn't have better reviews. One of my favorite dessert shops, cant't get too much better than this.

I'm not a big frozen yogart guy, so let me preface this by saying that I got their ice cream over the yogart amd even then it was just okay. You can tell it's more than a mix and that it's real ice cream, but they keep it in a freezer and they must keep the top off, because it doesn't taste like really anything. Their selection for frozen yogert is basically non-exsistant and same goes for their toppings. It's a very clean establishment and the waffle cone that I got was good, but those are really the only saving graces.

I was hesitant to try Farr's Fresh because it seemed like every other froyo place; I was right. The custard/yogurt selection wasn't impressive, same as the topping bar. The hand scooped ice cream was better, by far. If you want delicious Farr's, you have to go to the shop in Ogden. Farr's Fresh is just subpar.

This is Farr better than your standard pay by the ounce yogurt shop! This place not only offers yogurt but they also have on tap custard and ice cream. The have a fun mix of flavors and mixins. All of the flavors are tasty and I have never been disappointed.

Like other yelpers I was fooled by the old fashioned looking sign. This is not a 'real' hand scooped ice cream place, it's a serve yourself frozen yogurt shop. They did at least nominally offer ice cream and frozen custard along with the frozen yogurt. I got coffee ice cream with brownie bites. I thought it was pretty lousy, but I'm biased against these type of places.
